Do not order a custom cake from them! I was really DISAPPOINTED with my 30th Birthday cake. I was visiting SD from Virginia for a few days and we decided to celebrate my bday while we were here. I contacted the bakery about a week before I needed the cake and emailed them pics of the exact gold drip cake that I wanted. They told me they could do it and that it would be $80. All of the cakes on their website looked amazing and I even noticed some chocolate and white chocolate gold drip cakes so I felt comfortable ordering from them. When I showed up the baker said she just couldn't make the gold stick and look the same. If you guys have never used this "gold drip" technique then why wouldn't you tell me you can't do it or tell me it might not look the same, practice the gold drip technique a few days before instead of telling me you've been playing with it for 2 hours before I showed up and that it just won't stick? That doesn't make sense! I worked at a cupcake shop for 3.5 years while in college and this is just unacceptable! She said she could offer me a gift certificate or a partial refund. I told her to give me the refund. When I brought the cake back to the hotel and opened up the box I was even more disappointed because it looked HIDEOUS...I wanted to cry! I was really upset because this was a special bday, my 30th! She kept telling me the cookies n cream was going to taste amazing, which it did but that's not the point. The point is, I ordered a custom cake for my 30th and you guys gave me something that looked like I made it myself. Totally RUINED my bday celebration and not worth the money! She should've refunded the full $80, not just $35.

This was my favorite cupcake place to go to their flavors were delicious their customer service was always on point and that it why i decided to have a custom made Minnie Mouse cake for my daughters 3rd birthday party. I ordered 2 months in advance with pictures and very detailed of how i wanted her cake I even paid for it in full. Come the day of the party my husband picks it up and it absolutely nothing of what i had ordered. The cake was simple not even a minnie mouse theme the flavor wasnt even the right one. It was very disappointing and upsetting. Totally threw off my vision that i had for my daughters party. I called the store and the lady was nice she said unfortunately she couldn't give me another cake but she would refund my money back in full. Two days later i called again and the manager said she had no record of my order and no pictures or anything which makes no sense since they did give me a cake with my daughters name on it. So makes me wonder if you dont have no records of my order how would you know what name to write on the cake. Anyways she said they could only refund 15 dollars of the 60 dollars that i paid. Honestly i dont think ill be coming back to this place

Don't ever buy here. The manager is extremely rude and disrespectful. I ordered a cake for my son’s birthday and when I got to the place, to get the cake, she said that they never received an order when I specifically came on a weekend almost three weeks before to complete the process. Since the lady that helped me that Saturday never pushed the order according to them, somehow they lost the order and never baked the cake. I understand that things happen and sometimes fall through the cracks, the part that left me the most upset is how this manager treated us, her lack of empathy, her disrespect and entitlement. She blatantly stated that this was not her problem and that she had way too many cakes to worry about. She didn't offer alternatives or not even one single I'm sorry. She stated this was my fault for not following up , when all I did was trust that the information and form/email I gave them was correct and part of the correct process. Even If I should have not trusted them and follow up instead, her treatment towards me and my son was less than desirable an extremely disrespectful. I would never recommend them or use their service again.

Ummmmm. I'm not much of a sweets person, and usually I find cupcakes too dry, and super sugary frosting. I may have tried like 4 or 5 of these cupcakes at a family get together. I seriously was blown away!! My two favorites hands down were the lemon curd and the raspberry vanilla (or maybe it's called raspberry white chocolate?? ). I also tried the death by chocolate (sooooo deep, dark and rich) that was incredible if you're a chocolate lover. Also tried chocolate peanut butter (who doesn't love chocolate and pb??), and something with Jack in it maybe? Some kind of alcohol . At that point, I was hurting, but I couldn't stop. They were all so moist and decadent and beautiful :). My kiddo loved everything he tasted and especially enjoyed the chocolate and his cake pop :) Can't wait to go visit the actual shop. They will do special orders if you call ahead and ask nicely, and if they have time/the ingredients apparently, so I'm asking Maggie to marry the lemon curd and raspberry together. :)

I was excited to see this new cupcake shop open in Del Mar Highlands. I had these at a party once when they were at the other location and they were good. I ordered a dozen of varied cupcakes (vanilla, sprinkles, sea salt caramel, tiramisu, red velvet, blackberry, and passion fruit) and all of them were really dry and hard. I was hoping for a moist and fluffy cupcake. The frosting and flavor were okay, but the dense dry cake was a disappointment. I thought maybe it was just my batch today, but it does seem that other reviewers also notice the same thing. Maybe they are inconsistent because some reviewers said they were really good. For these cupcakes at $4.25 each, I was really hoping for something great and delicious. Unfortunately most of them were partially eaten and then tossed.

I just ordered cupcakes for my sister's 30th birthday because my family absolutely loves the flavors of Pure Cupcakes. The reason for 3 stars was due to the customer service during the phone ordering process. Tyler helped us with our order. She was patient in the beginning when we were in the cupcake flavor decision process of our order. The customer service went south when we requested an estimate cost for our order. Instead of totaling up our phone order, she said we have to wait to receive an email. At that point, it seemed like we were inconveniencing her. She was quick to hang up without a kind word or even "thank you." I was really disappointed in the customer service she delivered to me. I expect better from Pure Cupcakes. Hopefully, this changes in the future so I dont have to find a new bakery.

I placed an order for a delivery of a Halloween decorated cake and 3 dozen decorated cupcakes 26 days ahead of my event. I paid for all in advance and was in email contact the entire time. I was shorted a dozen vanilla cupcakes upon delivery, which would have made me short for my guests. I was told “ they were out of vanilla.” I pointed out that I paid for that dozen and was offered a reimbursement, but I asked for just any flavor of cupcakes instead. The delivery girl returned an hour later with 1 dozen assorted flavors and 6 with Halloween decorations. I was disappointed that they didn’t even compensate me with 1 extra cupcake for the time, missing decorations and missing vanilla cupcakes. Seemed cheap.

PURE Cupcakes did a phenomenal job on our wedding dessert! We did a mix of regular and mini cupcakes with boozy pipettes. All of the flavors were delicious! We also had a small 6 inch round cake to cut and my first bite as a married woman was one of the best bites of cake in my life! Mary was great to work with. We did a tasting so we could pick the perfect flavors for our wedding. We had an entire wall of cupcakes, it was amazing! I will post pictures as soon as I receive them from the photographer. I will definitely be going back to Pure Cupcakes for our anniversary and other special occasions.

Mary and the ladies at Pure Cupcakes did an amazing job on our wedding cake. It tasted exactly as it did when we tried the cupcakes the day we decided to go with their bakery. The cake was exactly as I had envisioned it. My only complaint is that I feel as though Mary could have been more responsive in her emails. I was told when I called that typically people talk to Mary via email but it was four days before my wedding and I hadn't heard from Mary for a few days nor had I paid for the cake. I still would order again from them and will definitely be dropping in for an occasional cupcake.

Went there because they advertised vegan cupcakes. When we walked in we were happy to see a showcase of beautiful delicious looking cupcakes. When we asked about vegan cupcakes they pointed us to a sad little case at the end that had a very limited selection of cupcakes that were all smaller and much less appealing. They were also much more expensive than the regular cupcakes. We probably would have just left but we had two small kids with us who we had promise cupcakes to. The frosting was good but the cupcakes were just okay. Paid $17 for four small cupcakes that were just average.

I would just like to say that we ordered a small wedding cake (6 inches, just a cut cake since dessert for guests was churros and ice cream) from Pure Cupcakes and it was incredible. We got the vanilla cake with mixed berry filling and I honestly don’t think I’ve ever had a better cake. We were planning on freezing a portion of the cake but it was so good we finished it within the week. I almost wish we had passed on the churros and done cake for everyone. Cannot recommend them highly enough.

Pure Cupcakes made our wedding cake & they did a phenomenal job!! We actually had multiple people still complimenting our cake days after our wedding!! We did a chocolate cake with (I don’t even remember the frosting to be honest…) and it was great. Mary also was incredibly helpful in sticking to our budget and giving us options based on our budget. I’m so glad we got our cake through Pure Cupcakes and would highly recommend them for all of your baking needs. Thank you, Mary!!

I want to preface with I never leave reviews for anything. I ordered my mom a custom 2-layer carrot cake for her birthday. The cake was extremely DRY. I’m not even kidding. We couldn’t eat it, and I had to throw it away. When I went to pick up the cake, I also grabbed 3 cupcakes from the display bar. The Guinness one was good, but the other two confetti were also very dry. I usually give places the benefit of the doubt but I’m not sure that I’ll order from here again.

If you're a cupcake lover, you'll LOVE these cupcakes. If you're an on-the-fence cupcake eater, then you'll LOVE these cupcakes because they are much better than the average cupcake. The rol-e-o one, I think it's supposed to be similar to rollo candy, is amazing and probably my favorite. There are many to choose from, and something for everyone. The space is bright and cheery and the staff are all lovely. Definitely the best cupcakes I've had in San Diego.

Paid $45 for a minimally decorated, extremely dry & over-baked 6-inch 2 layer cake for my birthday. Cake was delivered two hours early. I hadn’t even checked into my hotel yet but the front desk was kind enough to store it for me until check-in time. Everybody has off days. But in retrospect, I probably should’ve ordered what they are best known for and just gotten a cupcake. The only bummer in an otherwise awesome 50th birthday trip to the beach.

Send an order confirmation and then ignore your customers is a no no! I was looking forward to do business with you guys for a Star ways cake. Emailed and called you guys and even spoke to someone. So sad you guys can’t even communicate. Pretty cakes but the customer service is beyond bad. Hopefully you guys can take this review seriously and pay more attention. Very very sad about this. U guys are Uniquely good and bad at the same time.

I reserve 5 STARS for the few places that I find WAY ABOVE the rest. WIfe had gluten free and I traditional. I was just getting ready to tell my wife "this is REALLY GOOD" when she beat me to it!! Icing is not hard but soft, smooth and a bit gooey. My pecan pie cupcake was both imaginative and, above all, delicious. We are from Denver and want these folks to relocate! Your tastes may differ but you need to visit and see for yourself.

I cannot recommend Pure Cupcakes enough! They make the absolute best gluten free/vegan cupcakes! So good that I ordered some for my wedding for the guests that are gluten free, dairy free, and vegan. They LOVED them, and it was a special touch to have a dessert option for the people with dietary restrictions/allergies. They even made the frosting color dusty blue to match the bridesmaids dresses. Amazing gluten free/vegan cupcakes. Got these for my boyfriend for his birthday and ate four cupcakes in one sitting. Some of the flavors were better than others. The red velvet vanilla was on the dry side. Stick to the carrot cake. Options that have lots of liquid added. Great for any occasion. Could also tell that the cupcakes were previously frozen and then frosted because the frosting came off in a huge piece.

This was my second time here. First time experience was friendly, the cupcake was delicious, flavorful, nice fluffy texture. Second time, friendly service, cupcake was HARD & COLD, only pro was that it had flavor. I know I don’t like my cupcakes HARD AND COLD. My advice is don’t sacrifice your cupcake quality just to save you money ( You will end up losing more money & customers in the long run)

These cupcakes are the real deal. They do not at all taste like they are baked en masse, like most cupcake stores do. I also like that they are normal-sized cupcakes. Bigger is not necessarily better, people! Every cupcake is delicious, fresh and flavorful. They change out their varieties often, so it is always fun to go in and see what's new. My family loves the salted caramel, among others.

This USED to be one of my favorite cupcake places but like many stores, their products have shrunk. The cupcake has halved in size (icing is still piled high) and the prices are still above average for "designer" cupcakes. They had flyers inside that stated they're moving to Del Mar in June 2023 so they won't be there for much longer. I'm guessing things are tough (profit margins, rent, etc).

Walked in on a whim and saw a case full of different cupcake flavors with descriptions of each flavor. You pay per cupcake, so I chose 4 different flavors. The cupcakes looked beautiful & were very moist & dense. There was plenty of frosting to go with each bite. I thought I'd love the white cupcake with sprinkles- the flavor was okay, but I really enjoyed the Buenlo & the tiramasu cupcakes.

I love Pure Cupcakes! My sister got me a dozen cupcakes from here for my birthday this year, and we’ve ordered from here twice since then. It’s always been great and absolutely delicious. Even my friends who don’t like cupcakes, love these cupcakes. It’s a really awesome place. They do cakes as well and can put photos on them too! Definitely recommend this place.

Placed an order with an employee who told me I would get an email to confirm and pay for the order. I never got the email. I called again and was told they had the order and everything was fine. I still never got a confirmation. The cupcakes were never delivered and I never got a call back. I would never use this company again. It ruined the birthday party.

I got a Mayan cupcake and the passionfruit toasted coconut. The bready part wasn't too sweet, and the frosting was perfect with a lot of flavor. The chocolate was rich and moist and the passionfruit wasn't overpowered by the coconut. The passionfruit cupcake also had some jam at the center. Delicious and would definitely like to come back.

These cupcakes are not only beautiful but moist and delicious. Very fun and creative flavors as well, however, even the basic chocolate and vanilla ones are at the next level of decadent. They also offer a military discount which is a nice touch. I highly recommend these cupcakes for your next gathering or for a special treat.

I've liked every cupcake I've tried from here, except the red velvet because the icing just tasted like cheese. The Vanilla Bean is classic and to die for. Staff are friendly and cheerful, very prompt to help you. I would give it 5 stars but the cupcakes are kind of pricey. Check the website for menu as it changes monthly.

Absolutely delicious! They're definitely a little pricey, but considering cupcakes aren't something you'd eat often, these are *definitely* worth it. Moist cake, frosting that almost melts in your mouth- no crusty frosting here! And they're also not overly sweet, so your teeth won't hurt after eating it. Wonderful cupcakes

Our special order cake and cupcakes for my daughter's Sweet 16 party were beautiful! The ladies at PURE are amazing! They even delivered the cake/cupcakes directly to the venue for a very reasonable fee. The overall cost was a little pricey but well worth it. I got a custom cake here as I was expecting it to look like the picture I requested for.. it definitely did NOT.. seemed like lazy skills and shortcuts especially for the price I paid! I had no time for them to redo anything very disappointing! Also the cake was super dry!! I will not be coming here again …

Mary exceeded my expectations, she went above & beyond. My pick up time conflicted with her schedule & she asked to move it last minute & offered to deliver it to me instead. She drove 30 miles out of her way to make it happen . Definitely will be a returning customer. I'm so happy with my custom request.

Pure Cupcakes is the BEST. Their cakes and cupcakes are so moist and delicious with amazing flavor. They made a sweetheart cake for our wedding along with dozens of mini cupcakes for our guests - what a hit! Overall the cupcakes are beautifully decorated, my husband got a red velvet and I myself a German icing one and both were dry and slightly hard as they seemed to be refrigerated as opposed to being fresh. My husband loved the icing on the red velvet but other than that the German icing was overly sweet.

2013 Cupcake Wars Winner for a reason! Best cupcakes in San Diego. The flavors blend so well and not one is more empowering than the other. The cupcakes and frosting is not dry. Skip the lackluster Starbucks sweets and opt for Pure's "The Strawb" or the "Vietnamese coffee" cakes. They're all great, but those are my favorites! The lovely ladies here are friendly and passionate about their unique flavored cupcakes, which is why their delights shine in their sunlit little shop.

The Rolo Cupcake was my favorite. Like, literally the best cupcake. Ever. I refrigerated it so the caramel was solid and that was the perfect way to eat it. I also tried it directly off the shelf from Pure Cupcakes and I highly recommend refrigeration if you can wait that long. Lol.

The staff was welcoming and very friendly. We tried three flavors: cinnamon, coconut, and salted caramel. Sadly, the cupcakes didn't taste freshly made; they were dense and overly sweet for me. On a positive note, my kids loved the cake pops.

Cake was very dense and vanilla buttercream had a shiny texture and almost tasted like it had cream cheese in it. Plus, they’re kept refrigerated so it’s cold and hard when you get it. Definitely not one of the best cupcakes I’ve ever had.
