I live around the corner from Pancheta’s Bakery and have been spoiled by this bakery for 18 years now. The delicious tasty treats have encouraged me to learn Spanish although they usually have English speaking help or other customers help me out. Big Ears are my very favorite with Mexican Wedding cookies a close 2nd. I also routinely get rice pudding and flan. They have tasty sweet loaves, I am not sure of the actual name. They used to only take cash but now also take credit cards. Everything in the shop is delectable which is probably why they are always busy. Due to market issues prices had to go up but I understand because I work in nutrition in a hospital. The wonderful early morning smells wafting thru the area make my mouth water!

I'm rating it on the customer service as I never purchased any of their products due to their RUDE service. The girl answering the phone had the biggest attitude from the start I was kind and asked if they had any cakes for the same day, now I know last minute can me hard and that's why I was calling around, they said they did but I needed to go in and pay for it before they could make it. They don't take payment by phone so I would be making two trips to pay and pick up. I didn't mind as this was the only place I found as a last minute option so far. I hung up and forgot to ask how much so I called back and the girl was so rude to the point I rather not have a cake then support this business. Luckily I found a much nicer bakery : )

Panchitas has some real good bread. If you want real Mexican sweet bread you need to come here. The only reason I’m giving them four stars is because they always run out of bread usually by midday or 1pm. At least the best ones anyways. And if it’s a rainy day by 10 am the good breads will be gone. But at least you know that that’s how they are fresh bread they bake that day. But In my opinion they should bake a bit more to at least last until the afternoon. I haven’t tried their cakes but I’ve heard they’re good and if their anything like their bread they should taste good.

The pan dulce is the best in town. The cakes are also amazing. Only negative is you have to really check your cake orders before you pick them up. Both times I’ve ordered cakes from here, for a baptism and another for first communion, they got the orders wrong. The errors were nothing small, one was a completely wrong size and the other had the wrong flavors and colors. They at least remade one of the cake but still had to deal with them to correct their mistake and also made us late to our event.

Delicious and authentic pan dulce (Mexican sweet bread) with a great selection and a great variety of options to choose from (over 20 to 30 types on a given day). This is cash only. My absolute favorites are the ojos de buey (also called pan nido or ojos de pancha caseros) and their cheesecake. They also sell atole/ abuelita champurrado (Mexican hot chocolate). They also sell freshly baked bread called bolillos, which are amazing and cheap. Overall, very impressed and I'm here at least once a month getting their pan dulce. Highly recommend.

I cannot rave about Panchita's enough. I ordered a tres leches full sheet cake for a company event. Wow!! Not only did they get it made in one day (they really require 2 days notice), which no one in San Diego can do, but the quality was out of this world. The tres leches is a vanilla cake soaked in milk with a whipped cream/buttercream icing and I asked for fresh strawberries inside. It was amazing. When I ordered it I also took home a ton of baked goods and it was worth every calorie. This is a hidden gem in San Diego. Don't sleep!

Very impressed. I ended up going to Panchita's twice during our trip to San Diego. Left both occasions with plenty of pan dulce. There's a great selection and on both days the bread never seemed like it was from the previous day. Most of the items are common across other panaderías. However, one item I have never seen before is budín. I bought some here and was instantly hooked. On our last day in San Diego, I ended up going back to buy more to take home. The staff was nice as well. Definitely recommend stopping by here.

My 1st time at this located and based on my experience this morning, I will not be back. The cashier was not professional or courteous during my transaction. I had to greet her first, she took the customer behind me and pushed my tray aside, I assume because I had approx 10 pieces and the customer behind me only had two. But it would have been nice for her to say something. Trying to support local busines, but starbucks doesn't treat people like this. Very disappointing.

BEST pan dulce this side of the border! My girlfriend grew up down the street from Panchitas and always told stories about how her childhood pan dulce was the best. Fast forward to today and we now live down the street and I can attest that she was not lying. Panchitas has the best pan dulce and we are frequent customers. Every once in a while you might get a piece of bread that tastes old but I’d say 97% of the time we are left satisfied and eager for our next visit.

The bread here is flawless. So for the bread i give it a 5 star but the 1 star rating is for their customer service and lack of bread choices. 3rd time this week and they were out of bolillos and donuts. When a customer asked if they had any in the back the cashier snapped at him. When i saw this I just put my tray and utensils back in place and walked away, So did 3 other customers. Drove from otay just to purchase bolillos and again none available.

Lovely bakery with lots of choices at fair prices in an overly expensive neighborhood. Went to get some pastries every day during my 3 day stay in SD. Good coffee too! Just pick a plate and a pair of tongs, get whatever you like, and pay at the counter.

The bread use to be melt in your mouth fantastic but honestly it ain't even half of what it's use to be and let me tell you the line of people that they have is rediculous I mean since I can remember it's always been busy but at least it was understandable now I believe people just go out of convenience or custom or probably for nostalgia I don't know but what I do know is that it ain't for there conchas or orejas also known as Mexican bread

  • Joaquin Tall

Ok... time for an update. Fruit empanadas were reasonably priced before. The price has increased modestly over the years and seemed ok. However, last time I stopped by, they wanted 150% more! Huh?? I kindly told the proprietor that I would pass because the cost was too high for me. He seemed ok with that. Time for another update... the price of fruit empanadas are back to normal! I will start going there more often again.

Panchitas is the best panaderia with 100% mexican bakery, I always go there when the pan cravings kick in or when is time for rosca de reyes (with cheese creamy filling) or pan de muerto, or just for the heck of it! just remember, they won't take credit cards and i dont know why, so just bring cash or you will have to go around the corner and pay big commission to the atm. This place is CASH only!

  • e18rayan1

I found this place by word-of-mouth where I can find a rosca and I would recommend getting there again. It's a small bakery, but what they offer is pretty good. I got the cream cheese with jalapeño filled bollios and would definitely buy again. The other baked goods are okay since they're much more sugary than I am used to. Bring cash since they don't have card system and it can get full pretty easily.

  • Samuel Miranda

I love this place it's one of those places you got to see it in the morning it's fast-paced it's moving everything there is high-quality the service is amazing it's definitely one of those places in San Diego Torres going to and spending the time in the money Golden Hills is another beautiful neighborhood and all of San Diego it's not too far from one of the best parks

  • Carlos Izaguirre

They have a good set up for covid safety. They have their baked goods set up by the windows with numbers on them for quick and easy selection. You order by the door that is set up with plexiglass and someone brings your order to you. They have a good selection of items. Everything is good here. The process is fairly quick here as well. Its a cash only establishment.

  • Juan Mejia

There's always no conchas here...!! If you get there after 8:00 AM you'll not find an assortment of fresh pastries, only last day's leftover bread and when you ask them about something they just ignore you. I actually asked about conchas and bolillos the other day and the lady there said "we had conchas at 5:00 this morning".

  • George Hess

Great breakfast burritos and chilaquiles! I've been driving past this place for way too long, but finally stopped for breakfast last weekend and was so glad I did. The chilaquiles were terrific, and everything was very reasonably priced. I think this is my new go to quick breakfast place, but can't wait to try other things.

  • McCall Castro

Be sure to have cash as the this place accepts CASH ONLY. Other than that though, this a tasty little neighborhood spot to grab some hot chocolate, pan luce, and other pastries. Be sure to grab some of the coconut macaroons - they have a rich coconut, caramel flavor and are some of the best I’ve ever tried!

  • augster11

Rude lady cashier. I asked for a cream cheese bolillo and she gave me a Oaxaca cheese one. I returned it and said rudely that I said "Oaxaca!" She refused to admit she was wrong and kept saying "You said Oaxaca!" in an angry voice.

My sweet tooth got the best of me while I was walking past this bakery. A guy at work recommended this bakery so I gave in and picked out some goodies including a chocolate brownie, donuts and a few other treats. So far everything I've eaten has been really good! (Cash only).

  • tarmac (MPM)

I have been a customer since 1983 and the quality of service/product has not changed. Staff is still friendly and helpful, rolls and pastries are always fresh, and still inexpensive. I always get at least 12 bolillos and eat 1-3 on the way home. I just might stop by today.

  • Christina

Not cash only anymore, they charge 50 cents per debit card or credit card. the prices are excellent, the desserts are truly authentic and amazing to the area. Take some sort of translation on your phone because the items are labeled in Spanish. Worth It, Go!! …

  • May X

Horrible parking, I was there in the evening so the selection wasn't the freshest either and the prices are typical for mom and pop panaderias. A dollar a piece for regular bread. They have a cheese one that's pretty good as cost around $2.50 if I recall correctly.

  • Linda Orozco

I've been going there since I was little and now I live so far from it but whenever I drive near I have to stop by and pick up my favorites the conchitas which are classic and the panchitas the cream filled donut! mmmmm and they always have abuelita hot chocolate.

  • Chelulis 619

I have no complains about the bread. The bread was delicious and was at a good price. The only thing I wasn't happy with is that they don't take debit cards they only take cash. It would also be great if the cashier girl spoke English but she didn't even try.

  • Ana Ordaz

Always the freshest bread. They have so many options from the popular Conchitas to elotes, cuernitos, polvorones and so many more. They also have cakes and flans. The waiting line moves pretty fast. If you are looking for good bread, this is the place to go.

  • Andrea Gonzalez

Love the bread it's so good! The only thing I hate is that they only take cash. Sometimes i dont have cash with me the tres leches cake slice is my favorite as well as the ojo de buey. A bread covered in coconut with strawberry jelly in the middle

  • Acacia

Heads up that this place is CASH ONLY, but oh man it is so, so worth it. EVERYTHING is so tasty and fresh here. If you're in the neighborhood, for goodness sakes stop on by and try some of their stuff. Plus the people who work here are so nice!

  • Mike Rosenke

Not cash only - will take a debit or credit card. HUGE selection of bakery items and you can watch the bakers hand rolling all the pastries. The smell is amazing! Bought a big selection of goodies and everything has been excellent! What a find!

  • karen Del Angel

The best place to get Conchas and the Empanadas! I have to drive solid 30 mins to come here to get the best Mexican bread every other week! I like their bread more than Northgate and is by far the best Mexican bakery that I can find in SD.

  • Isabel Rodriguez

Bread is pretty good especially their Panchitas filled with cream and the conchas. I got my cream filled Rosca which actually does not look like I expected but im sure the taste will beat many supermarket Roscas made by hundreds for days.

  • Jen Moreno

I used to come here all the time as a kid. And even now, decades later, whenever Ive got a fix for pan dulce this is where I come. Ive only been to this location. Always a wide variety of sweets and never too steep on your pockets.

  • PJ

We were looking for a good and authentic Mexican bakery. The pastries here were fabulous and we didn't have to spend much to get a lot of food. We will definitely go back here for pastries the next time we visit San Diego.

  • Tomas Suros

This bakery is worth your time! Huge selection, always fresh, has that "OMG smell" while you order, and the first bite of their Tres Leches cake will change your life. Love this place and will keep going back.

  • Jerome Cooper

Best bakery in town! All their baked goods look amazing and taste great! Highly recommend checking them out if you are looking for baked goods or sweets. Make sure you get there early because it gets busy.

  • Ielle Uluan

A great place to get a cake! Gives very genuine latinx vibes and everything feels and is authentic. Bread is made with customers in mind and there seems to be a cake ready to go if you're in a pinch!

  • Irvin Gavidor

Always a good selection of delicious 'pan dulce' or sweet breads, which are pastries of various shapes and flavors in addition to cakes and 'bolliyos' (bread buns). Good prices and great service too!

  • Mayra

Worst place to get your tres leches cake. I order a cake for my sons birthday I requested for the tres leches cake to not have too much milk. That cake was dripping milk and we had to throw it away.

  • Ezequiel Pascacio

The mexican bread is really good, but every time I go there's almost no bread. It seems like they keep bread from the day before out to sell. I went today and they're bread was rock solid

  • Sebastian Falcon

Love this bakery but today just wasn’t the best experience. This review is based on service/experience: Really disorganized staff, some people were showing up to do pick ups for the

  • Eila Baldrich

Been coming here since I was 5 years old that makes 22 years ! People here are so kind. There is a big window where you can watch the bakers work and the bread is amazing ! …

  • Violeta Schueler

Went there a few week back with a friend of mine. Loved the breads they served. Sat around for couple of hours. A good place i have to say, Would recommend anyone to go again.

  • Ernie Galindo

Best Mexican bakery in San Diego. Bread pprtions are big and bread is baked daily. This is a cash only establishment, so make sure you stop by the ATM first. Highly recommend.

  • Javier Martinez

A bit overrated by locals, I suppose they've been around for a good while, but a little overpriced and Bread was just okay. However the jalapeno cheese filled bread was good.

  • Nate Morris

Amazing bakery with all sorts of treats for you to keep coming back and trying. You'll need to shop before 9:30am or some items will be sold out everyday.

  • Jeremias Gorgan

I came for the rosca, and was disappointed in that. Very dry and the flavor was OK. We would not go back for that. But the other pastries were quite good.

  • Heidi Ilie

The croissant tasted like chicken fat. I had to spit it out. Really gross. The sweet breads I tried were ok. Cash only which is another flaw in my book.

  • Rushil Nana

Fresh and Tasty. If you in the area and have a sweet tooth, you should stop by.. They were super busy and alot of the items were sold out. So go early
