Went to purchase the “Purina Pro Plan Salmon & Rice for Sensitive Skin/Stomach” 41 lb bag due this being the last place to have any. Line had 3-4 people when I got there due to only 1 employee ringing up. Someone would come to the registers to help with the line after about 5 mins. Took 10 mins to get ringed up. Informed employee I would be using the “Afterpay” app that allows you to make 4 easy payment plans on purchases at various stores to include Petsmart. The employee was very helpful with the “Afterpay” process which is the only positive part of this review. Also used my remaining balance on my giftcard towards the item. Unfortunately, the “Afterpay” app had issues and asked to put my item on hold due to time constraints. Employee accepted and asked for my name and could hold it until tomorrow. Told employee I would be back by 7pm. At this point, I had no knowledge of how holds worked or if the employee even processed the hold properly. They didn’t inform of me of any hold policies nor did they ask a manager if they could put an unpaid item on hold even though I technically made a small paid amount going towards it using my giftcard. Left the store with no issues and came back at around 645pm coming from my work. Once again, line was about 3-4 people long with only 1 employee ringing up. Would take another 10 minutes before getting to register. Employee ringing up was not the same employee as before and couldn’t find the original employee who put my item on hold anywhere. Saw my item that I put on hold near another register but with a piece of paper attached to it which had me wondering what it was for, but assumed it was to inform other employees that my item was on hold for me. Got to the register and told employee about my hold which kinda surprised her but eventually would find my item on hold with the piece of paper on it. The employee would inform me that it was a “door dash” order on hold for a customer that had paid for it online just a couple of hours ago. Informed employee that I had put it on hold with no issues and questioned why it was allowed to be purchased when I had attempted a purchase first and put it on hold to secure it. Employee then informed someone on the radio to go and look for another of the same item on hold. At this point, I became frustrated and was a bit disappointed that none of the employees apologized or even felt bad about the situation. The item on hold was currently out of stock everywhere and very hard to fine at this time. My poor furbaby barely has any food left and it made me even more frustrated that I couldn’t buy my fur babys food when I had done everything right at this point. This whole process from the time I got to the register to this point, took over 10 minutes. Whole process was unorganized and unprofessional and they even messed another customers online order by not having it ready at all. Finally a “manager” shows up and is already unprofessional by not stating who they are or even saying hi, tells me “they don’t have anymore and they already sold my hold item to a customer off door dash.” This made me agitated because I couldn’t believe how they handled the situation by disregarding the hold while also informing me in an unprofessional manner. They couldn’t give me an explanation why or straight answer when they knew they made a mistake. Due to this, I asked to speak to the “manager” and the “manager” snapped back by saying “I am the manager! I also had to request my gift card balance back which was pretty much the worst part of this experience. The manager had not idea what they were doing as well. They didn’t even offer to make it right by canceling the door dash order or saving me another one. I asked the manager so “I guess you can’t put items on hold without it being purchased.” Her response was “Yeah I guess” with an attitude and rolled their eyes. Overall, I will call corporate ASAP and report the “manager” and employee that put my item on hold. Do not go to this store ever! You’re furbabies deserve better!
UPDATE: Reptar died this morning. Barely even a year old. I included an image from when we first bought him. The other image shows him totally paralyzed from the stomach down, about an hour before we took him to the vet. No words... :-/ I was unknowingly sold a dying chameleon with Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD) and was told he was incredibly nice and super healthy. When I got home, I noticed his casque was completely asymmetrical, he's noticeably malnourished, his joints were weak --he constantly shakes -- and his front arm is definitely broken. Being an animal lover, I'm refusing to return this little guy back to the hell hole he was being kept in and am going to nurse him back to life. The sleep cycle of chameleons are far different than the hours of operation of PetSmart. In addition to accommodating their needs for appropriate light, they also have completely failed to give them adequate nourishment, space, humidity and love. I understand it's difficult to take care of a chameleon, but if PetSmart can't do it, then they shouldn't be allowed to sell and profit off these amazing creatures. So to Michael J. Massey, PetSmart La Jolla managers and all employees involved in this transaction -- I'm tremendously disappointed in you and can't believe how unintelligible you are concerning seemingly obvious matters like these. In a place that is supposed to care for animals, you've ended up committing animal abuse. I'll be lucky if he lives. I will never support nor purchase anything from PetSmart ever again. Massive shame on this entire establishment.
Terrible terrible terrible. Every time my dogs come back from being at the hotel they come back with some sort of terrible terrible sickness I had my dogs there for four days they both came back with kennel cough They charge me $710 for two golden retrievers one year and four months old For five nights and gave my dogs kennel cough !! I went back to Petsmart that they did not reduce the price at all I took them to the vets and spent $750 for examination and anabiotic‘s my dogs have been on anabiotic‘s for six days now and they’re going to have to do another six days terrible terrible terrible Four months ago I had them there and they came back with Pyro that was really horrible both of my dogs had diarrhea for two weeks again my dogs were on antibiotics and both dogs had to spend the night in the veterinary hospital i’ve had really bad luck taking my dogs to Petsmart in the La Jolla next to Trader Joe’s location ,, The most interesting factor is my dogs are not neutered and they do not play with other dogs so I don’t know how they’re getting the sickness except what tells me is their kennels are completely unsanitary it’s the only way my dogs have been getting sick at Petsmart. I do not recommend Petsmart Hotel to anyone.
Front desk workers not friendly at all, the one who checked me in was kind of aggressive. During check out, the “guy” who claimed to be the manager had a terrible attitude. Had black nails and extremely large spacers in his ears. While I was asking about my lost harness, leash and bandana to another worker (she was nice, but too new to be knowing what’s going on), he stepped in claiming to be the manager. When I actually spoke to him, he said that he wasn’t really the manager and someone else could help? He just seemed like he didn’t want to deal with it, nor anyone else for that matter. Very nonchalant and didn’t have a care for anything. Honestly don’t think these people should be working at a pet store if they have a terrible personality, just ruins everyone’s day. Bottom line. Checked in my pup with a brand new leash, high quality harness, and a red bandana I got from Hawaii. All cost at least about $60 together. No one at check-in told me I was supposed to take all that with me before I checked my dog in. Came back to check out my pup, they didn’t return anything but a CVS plastic bag I used to bring the food (one thing they were able to keep! :) ). Bad front desk workers personalities.

I came to check in and I was the only person in line, then a call came in and I waited 10 min for the cashier/supervisor to finish his call. He didn't say sorry or even excuse me. Then he didn't fill out my pets medication correctly and rolled his eyes when I pointed it out to him. Then I come to pick him up 13 min after his check out and still had to wait for them to finish his bath. If that wasn't enough, I had to listen to the supervisor and a team member talk about how my dog was a "brat" with taking his medication. This wasn't the first time my dog has been in a pet hotel, but it was by far the worst. He looked completely stressed out when I picked him up. I don't know what happened to Petsmart La Jolla, but steer clear
They are NOT located inside of the La Jolla Village shopping center. They are all the way around to the back. But they have signs everywhere else where they don't have an entrance. Tried calling ahead of time to ask where their entrance is, but after 6 minutes of waiting.... no answer. Finally found the front and walked in, no one to be found. I just needed to pick up an online order. Had to yell, "Hello, anyone here." Found someone but she had to call someone else to help me. No one came right away. After 2 minutes of waiting, I had to go to the back myself to find someone. It would've been faster to just walk in instead of ordering online.
I had a wonderful experience specifically with an employee named Isaac. One of my items turned out to be used and not new and he assisted in helping me exchange, find a new one, etc all when the store was pretty much closing. He was very patient, attentive, helpful and kind. I was a little frustrated when I saw that the item was used but he turned the whole experience into a pleasant and positive one. 5 stars for Isaac!! Thank you! As far as the item itself, I got a window perch for my cats and they love it. Great quality, reasonable price. Very pleased.
I had my dog boarded for 2 1/2 days. I had left a few treats and a chew bone for her to enjoy, during her stay. When I picked her up, NOT one treat or chew bone I left, was given. I have had issues with Petsmart, for sometime. ♀️ I’ll mention that at Xmas time, the appointment person, gave me wrong info on boarding requirements, and when I went to check my dog in, they wouldn’t accept her, because of a vaccine issue, and I missed my flight to spend Xmas in California, with family ♀️ It’s a crapshoot with Petsmart for sure!
I don't EVER do reviews, the Banfield at this location is absolutely TERRIBLE!!! The veterinarians at this location do NOT care about the needs of your pet AT ALL. They literally DRAG your pet inside for checkups/surgery. They mess up the medication CONSTANTLY. Which has caused my pet ALOT of complications and money. The receptionists ALWAYS have attitude when you try to ask for something they obviously DO NOT know when their SUPPOSED too. I've been coming here for years and I DO NOT RECOMMEND. SO disappointing and disrespectful.
This location in particular has a lot more inventory and a separate vet service within. We rely on them for rx food, litter, treats, toys, and other supplies including tropical fish tank items. We get our cat's claws trimmed at the PB location since it's closer. Staff is nice. Just make sure that if you have an online prescription order you give it 7 to 10 days because prescriptions are going through corporate now. And if you're picking up for a partner make sure they list you as the pickup person to make things easier.
Jennifer, groomed our cavalier king charles spaniel dog Max, 03-04-2016. It was late in the day and close to time for the store to close. Jennifer, took great pains to complete the job to her satisfaction. Despite being tired she did a really great job and we will have no hesitation in taking Max there again. I've had my dog groomed here four times. The first time it was just a full shaves you can't screw that one up the second time she got a haircut and Style it wasn't very good the third time she had a haircut style from somebody who is filling in from somewhere else and it was absolutely fantastic. Then the 4th time it was the worst haircut I've ever seen on my dog. I Won't Go Back. It's worth paying an extra 10 bucks at another groomer.
Had our dogs groomed there several times! They did a good job. They had nice cuts today We! We were going to board them at the pet hotel for one night! Which we have done many times! However when we to check on them in the play area!! The lady that was watching them blocked our dogs from going around her!! She wasn't nice to us through the window at all when we motioned for her to stop that! We will never ever ever return!
It took about 20 minutes of walking back and forth to find the entrance. Very misleading signs. The entrance is around back all by itself. When we finally found it and went inside, the atmosphere was not very welcoming. Looks and feels like you're walking around a hospital. My dog looked nervous the moment we walked in until the moment we left. However, the prices and the rewards system are not bad
Dropped off my Shiba Inu for a few nights. Jenn was wonderful and greeted us warmly and took away all of my aprehensions. I was surprised when she answered the phone the next day checking in on my baby. She was just feeding him lunch. He did well and she scheduled his exit bath and brush out. We picked him up the next day and he looked absolutely beutiful! Thank you Jenn!
Anthony was the Best!! Usually my dog runs out of the salon and drags me through the entire store as fast as she can! But NOT this time! She was so calm and even looked back at Anthony like saying "I'll see you next time! That told me a lot! Obviously he treated Harley very well! Anthony will be her personal groomer from now on! Thank you Anthony& The whole team!
Love this petsmart, they have great prices for the most part and helpful staff on a continuous basis. We always take our dogs here for when they are feeling under the weather. Also if we need to go out of town the doggie day care is such a great place for them to stay. All of the staff over there has been extremely friendly and take great care of our two pups.
I bought guinea pigs for children, after 7 days they got spots! It was ringworm ! Kids got infected too! We wanted to give back sick animals, but they were not accepted in the store. Said 12 days have passed. We spent a lot of money and time for the treatment of our children! A veterinarian doctor said that such animals are sold in the store. Not recommend!
Friendly staff, clean facilities, and good selection of dog toys. Superb service, awesome attitude by the cashier, happy customer. Pet Smart employees were attentive to my dog's needs and paid attention to him like he was their friend. The location is very clean, and I am very glad to know my dog is in a safe place with people who care. Always Recommended.
PetSmart day care has been a life saver! I have 3 dogs and a full schedule, so being able to take them here when I'm maxed out has made the world of a difference. Staff is friendly, accomodating, and very knowledgable. I've recommended PetsHotel and Daycare to some friends of mine and they seem to have a very positive experience as well.
Wow! I am beyond impressed with Taylor trimming my 2 nervous dog's nails. I had been hesitant to try a public grooming location because my dogs are special needs but she made them feel so comfortable, and she did a fantastic job! I would highly recommend this place, and, it's quite inexpensive. Thanks so much to Taylor!
This is a pretty great store and has a lot of good specials on clothes for bigger pets as well as harnesses and leashes. You never really have to pay full price if you don't want to. They have a large variety of pet foods as well as Birds hamsters guinea pigs and all kinds of fish and snakes on occasion.
We were in town for the weekend and dropped our puppy off for the day while we went to a family outing. She got a first timer treat and the staff was super pleasant to deal with. She had a fantastic time! We ended up bringing her by the next day for an afternoon of fun...round 2. Thanks so much folks!!!
We just adopted a cat from PetSmart and it was a very good experience. Sara in the cattery was very nice and friendly. We purchased quite a few items for the new addition to our family and we found most things to be reasonably priced. Overall, they provided good service and had friendly helpful people.
My dogs love the day care. They always get too way excited lol. Store itself has everything you need for your pet. Check for sales. They have good offers and give out free product samples sometimes. Staff is very friendly and helpful. I've been shopping there for over 2 years and never had any issues.
Great place but had to walk around the entire parking lot, inside and outside of the buildings to figure out where the entrance is. Te signs posted in the parking lot are deceiving and super annoying that it took me 15 minutes to find out how to get in. There should me more signage and not misleading.
Animal taking care center available. You can find almost anything you need here. Shopping floor is clean and big. The employees are very nice and friendly. Public restrooms are available. Big free parking lot in the front/plaza. Small shopping stores closed by, including BestBuy. Easy access.
This is a Great pet store in La Jolla and they do short term boarding as well, if you need a place to leave your dog when you're away! Very clean, lots of products stocked up and very friendly & helpful staff I would definitely recommend this location it’s 100% #KangarooReviewsApproved by me
The 5 star is for Taylor (groomer). She was kind, gentle and very understanding of my needs for what I wanted done for my Shih tzu. I am very picky when it comes to grooming but it was perfect. I used pay a lot more for grooming that didn't come out as good. Highly recommend her …
Eric was very friendly :) They had some good deals on BarkBox toys. Only con is that the lights continue to not be repaired, but that's not on them, it's on the company; it gives a poor experience for the customer and I'm sure the staff. Hope these get fixed (it's been a LONG time).

We've taken our basset hound Gus to the store itself, Petshotel, the Doggy Daycare, and the Groomers. The staff at this store is all-around fantastic. They truly love and care about animals. It's almost insulting how much our dog is excited for us to drop him off.
Terrible experience with the grooming department. I wasn't going to leave our dogs with Isabel or Katie. One of them rolled their eyes when we got there. Then they talked down to us. I can only imagine what they would have done to our dogs if we left them there.
Decent place. Staff friendly. Only downside is I called to see how late they were open and I was told 7 because of easter. When I got there at 5:50, they were closed. Manager closed early. Poor decision if you'd already told someone coming in a different time.
Super clean, had more stuff than I've ever seen in a PetSmart.... and I was well treated even in my jammies-- my boyfriend's surgery was that morning, and I was preoccupied, so I was probably a bit weirder than normal :)-- definitely a good location. Kudos.
Great location, right between LJ and UTC. Lots of all kinds of stock for dogs, cats, .. Very well informed staff, not just about their own stuff. They host adoption events both dogs and cats. There is also a grooming station. And a on site vet office.
We bring our Furbaby to petsmart in LaJolla for day camp and boarding from time to time. They have the most affordable pricing that we have found. It’s a good environment, the staff knows my pup by name. There are many dogs he gets to play with.
I paid for 120 sm crickets and that's not what I received. I'm furious that you fu$&ers shorted me! I can honestly say that I'm done shopping at petsmart. I counted 80 crickets, including the dead ones. All I want is what I paid for @$$holes!

We come here often for pet supplies. They have a good variety. They do price match as well, with other stores or the petsmart app. We've also used the pet hotel many times for our medium sized dog and its been a great experience every time.

I get my dog groomed here, the groomers are nice but a bit robotic which I guess is ok. Unfortunately they were closing early due to being short on staff- it does ha e a large variety and the current staff is very helpful and courteous.

The groomer there is horrible! I saw when this girl was grooming a white lab, she was brushing the dog's hair with hate she was pulling his hair so much!!! I made me feel terrible and she started cutting his hair like she didn't care.

Creepiest store, it’s dark and no one is there to help you. Only 1 person on the register ever so line backs up down the aisle. Manager is rude and unhelpful. I suggest going to a different petsmart store, definitely not this one
The majority of the animals are well taken care of except for the Betta fish. The times that I've visited their water was very dirty and often enough I find dead ones in their containers. Otherwise very good service.
We've been taking our dog here one day a week for a couple of years now, and we've never had a bad experience. She loves the place, the other dogs, and maybe most of all the employees, who take excellent care of her.
Pet Smart employees were attentive to my dog's needs and paid attention to him like he was their friend. The location is very clean, and I am very glad to know my dog is in a safe place with people who care.
We left our kitty at the pets hotel for 5 nights and she had great stay. They loved on her and answered my calls when I called in to check on her. Highly recommend for pet parents going out of town!

We have been patrons of La Jolla Pet Smart for over a decade. Their grooming salon and pet hotel is the best for us within a 10 mile wide area. You can't go wrong trusting your pets to them.
For the size of this particular store I feel like the selection is limited. BUT the services are pretty amazing. I was in here a week ago and they have a clinic area and a boarding space.

Great service. I couldn't even pick up a cat tree shelves product I wanted to buy and one of the cashiers picked it up and carried it to the register and out to my car for me.
Score would be higher if more live fish on sale. If we get notification when and what on sale . What good is the sale if no one knows when to come in check out sale items.
This is the best PetSmart I have ever been to! They had everything I needed and the Banfield there was able to hellp me with a food prescription card from another vet.
Wouldn’t give my dog a haircut because he was too anxious? So instead they charged me $60 for a bath and brush. Something I could have easily done and saved $60.
Great service. Way better the the pets mart on 1840 Main Ct, Chula Vista, CA 91911. The people here are nice and relate to the everyday life of actual people.
I think wether you go to PetSmart or to PetCo you can't go wrong...alas we know PetCo is a local San Diego company so they do have a slight advantage right?!
