New store, same tricks Introducing the Petco Quality Guarantee, namely that your pets will likely die within days of purchase. After being moved into a brand new store complete with glittering tanks and a revamped filtration system, I had hoped that PetCo Union Square’s aquarium department would manage to clean up its act. Alas, I was mistaken. On my first visit to this new store, I saw one of their ‘for sale’ fish floating at the top of its tank, dead. On my second visit to this new store, I saw three of their ‘for sale’ fish floating at the top of their tanks, dead. (One had clearly been in there for some time, as its tank mates had managed to make a lunch out of one of its eyeballs - charming!) It appears this store continues to fail to grasp the nettle and handle the root cause of its aquarium department woes. All fishkeepers know that a quick cursory glance into a fish tank every morning will reveal, shockingly, who is dead and who is still alive and kicking. Dead fish can then be removed using a net, some of which are for sale within this very store, a dog bowl, also for sale here, or, for those who are feeling REALLY brave, their own bare hands. PetCo would do well to heed this advice, preferably before any of its staff try to issue platitudes to paying customers such as, ‘Is your tank big enough for this fish?’ For posterity, I have attached my previous video of a dead fish at this store’s previous location.
Although there are many departments in this store, I focused on the dog and cat department. I came here to get a sifting litter box for my cat. The store is clean and items are clearly displayed. Upon entering, there is the gourmet food section for high heeled dogs and their discerning owner. Then it's on to dog fashion on the left followed by leashes and harnesses. On the right you'll find rows of dog food to fit your budget as well as your 4 legged friend's palate. This includes an extensive frozen section for prepared gourmet meals. This is followed by the cat section. Every brand of cat food is displayed here, and also the opportunity to buy in bulk if you're feeding stray cats. Then it's on to the cat toy section, the cat bedding and scratching post section followed by the cat litter box section. There's even a section to clean up pet accidents as well as repellents. Thank God this place exists after petland went out of business. This store is Petco, not to be confused with their competition pet smart. Have fun shopping and stock up.
Scheduled a grooming appointment for my 13 pound dog . Quoted $89. They needed proof of vaccinations. Sent over proof and was told he needed a kennel vaccination. Booked that at Petco, too. When we got to the vaccination appointment they said he needed an additional vaccination, plus the kennel vaccination. This appointment went from a $45 visit to over $100. Fine. Dropped off dog for the basic grooming package. This is a dog that I bathe and clip his nails myself but don’t shear. Needed a shear. Took them five hours from time of appointment to do the shear. When we picked him up the cost was nearly double than what was quoted. They said he was matted —umm, no—and they added on a holiday package (cheap neck scarf and holiday scented spray after the bath). No. After calling in and taking to the manager they refunded the $28.00 holiday package. Won’t go again. Will stay with the small local businesses and remember to book in advance so I don’t get into this box store mess again.
I’ve never left a review before, but I wanted to share my experience in case others want to get their pet groomed here. I had heard really good things about this place, I was recommended by quite a few people actually. However, I did not have the best experience. I asked for a trim, and to not take too much off my puppy’s ears. She was not matted, or had any issues like that. When I picked her up she was completely shaved down. She looks like a completely different dog now. She is much smaller than ever before, so much so that her harness does not fit her anymore. The manager handled this situation very professionally and I will say overall the customer service was really good here. I recommend if you try going here to be VERY VERY specific about what you want and maybe show a reference photo. Below I have included a photo of my dog before and after her grooming.
The new Petco Union Square location is unlike any other pet shop. The grand shop design is spectacular with a variety of pet merchandise, food, and services offered. We loved seeing familiar and new brands featured and the individual creative section displays for all the small businesses and Reddy lifestyle area. We enjoyed selecting treats from the pick and choose biscuit cookie trolley bar for dogs upstairs, trying samples at JustFoodForDogs, and our pup having her chilled whipped cream! The staff were relaxed, friendly, and helpful. Our pup especially enjoyed meeting them throughout the store. Our first visit to the shop was excellent and we are excited to be able to stop at this location every time we are in the Union Square area!
This new location has put an emphasis on pet and pet owner experience. The minute you walk into the store you’re wowed. You have an all around experience for you and your pet. Having a Vetco clinic in store as well as the needs for your pet is a great experience. You do not have to go from one location to the next to find the proper care, grooming services, food or dog accessories etc. There are more food brand options that the old location did not have before. Brands that you would find in your local pet store. The location is very inviting, the way it was designed is very nice.
What!? Where did this place come from!? The renovation is amazing. There's a vet, a barber shop, two floors, a specialty restaurant just for animals. Super clean and super well organized. I really wish I lived closer to here I would go all the time! I really appreciated how well laid out everything was. The quality and stock of items and the variety. They even had seasonal stuff for dogs and cats. The fish section was also really neat. They have live coral and a really neat selection. Staff was friendly and helpful you could tell they love animals.
The new Union Square Petco is posh !!! So clean and as fresh smelling as possible. The team on the floor yesterday were kind, attentive and super chill. When people have wonderful surroundings to work in, it all just flows and everyone is happy. It made me realize just how depressing the old spot was. I took at least three tours around the cat adoption tower and visited the sweet, little reptiles and birds. Those with strollers or on their own hot wheels wiIl enjoy the elevator and gorgeous , accessible restroom. I may be applying and soon !
Wow!! Chewy usually goes into grooming stressed and comes out exhausted from a long stressful appointment. But not this time, Ingrid took such good care of her she came out happy and calm. Also I just love the shape of her face, Ingrid did such a great job making her look cute and also keeping her short for the summer weather. It was my first time at this location and I am just so impressed with Chewy’s cut and how calm she was after it! I will be back and recommend them to anyone with a well behaved but nervous dog like mine!
I’ll start off by saying that Damiska is such a sweet person. She loves dogs and dogs love her. My dog was so happy getting her cut with her and I was relieved that I finally found someone that I could trust with my dog. I have tried so many people in the past, and ended up being disappointed. So if you need grooming for your dog, don’t look for anyone else. Just look for Damiska, you will not regret it and your dog will love her.
Beautiful store! Very well stocked with many helpful staff around to help. I actually had a crew member staying with me the entire time and a manager who responded quickly when they called for him. Store is very clean with beautiful layout. But, it is expensive! Prices are much higher than any other Petco stores I have visited. The good news is that they will price match.
While their selection is amazing, their aquatics are disappointing. Visually stunning, a lot of their fish come with constant health issues. To verify I brought fish from a family owned and I had no deaths. Their fish range from health issues to parasitic infections. If they focused more on the health of their livestock, I would be in love with this place l.
Petco went all out here. Great service and friendly staff. They even have a dog groomer on premises. They have hays for bunnies but could use more option on bunnies toys. In general, they have a great combination of products for whichever pet you have.
Beautiful pet store in the heart of Union Square. There's lots and i mean lots of things to see and do here including doggy barber shop, doggy fitting station, animal habitats, vet hospital and much much more. You definitely don't want to miss it
This place is like a Macy's for the animal Jesus Christ how Petco change so much soon you're not even going to be able to afford anything for the dogs/ cats if they all look like this I can do one bougie Petco not all of them lol
Lovely store, two floors with grooming services, also much better set up for the cat adoption area in comparison to the previous store. Cat food is on the second floor. Good range of products, plenty of choice. Kind employees
I'm not sure if this Petco was designed for me or my dog, but I was all about it! Full sensory experience from start to finish. It's never occurred to me to go browsing in a pet store, but this is an absolute destination!
One stop shop for all your pet needs. There is grooming, a Vetco, and kittens under the stairs to watch. All different kinds of treats, food, accessories and more. The place is beautiful.
Petco is becoming a fancy pet shopping mall rather than a pet essential store now. I kinda like it this way. We spent hours in this store to explore.
