"Great library! I won't say big, but you don't feel cramped"
I was here today, 02/26/18 around 5 pm because I wanted to get a NYCID. Just for the records, before coming into this NYCID location. I was in another location in Manhattan on 46 street and Lexington Ave, I couldn't get to make me an ID in this location cause it was really packed, crowded; the reason why someone recommended me to drop by at this location in Long Island. So, I took a train from Grand Central to Queensborouh Plaza, then walked from there to this NYCID location, it took me around 17 minutes! So, when I make my way into this building and asked the security about the NYCID OFFICE, "ITS ON THE SECOND FLOOR" HE SAYS. HE WAS VERY KIND, ANYWAY, ONCE I FIGURED IT OUT AND GOT INTO THE OFFICE AND I SAW A WOMAN WHOSE NAME WAS RAMONA?? SHE WAS TALKING TO A COUPLE, SHE ACKNOWLEDGES ME AND SAYS TO WAIT..UNTIL THIS POINT EVERY THING WAS FINE, SO I WAITED FOR AROUND 10 MINUTE , THE COUPLE LEFT AND SHE ASKED ME HOW COULD SHE HELP ME? I TOLD HER THAT I WAS HERE CAUSE I NEED TO GET ME A ID AND I HAVE IN MY HANDS ALL THE PAPERS TO GET ME THE NYCID. GUESS WHAT SHE NEVER COMPLY WITH MY REQUEST, SHE WANTED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE NEXT DAY!!!! I TOLD HER "LOOK, IM ALREADY HERE, I HAVE ALL THE PAPERS AND EVEN THE NYCID FORM WAS FILLED OUT AND YOU WANT ME TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR TOMORROW??? HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE, RAMONA WAS THERE WITH SOME OTHER GUY IN THIS OFFICE WHO DISAPPEAR WHEN I STARTED TO QUESTION RAMONA?? THERE WAS NO ONE WAITING IN LINE!!!! ACTUALLY, THERE WAS 000 PEOPLE!!!!!!!! THERE WAS NO WAITING LINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS PEOPLE WERE SO LAZY, DISRESPECTFUL, GIVING EXCUSES BUT NEVER DOING THEIR JOBS!!! SO, THIS IS WHAT I TOLD HER, LOOK, YOU WANT ME TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR TOMORROW WHEN THERE IS NO ONE WAITING IN LINE!!!! WEHAVE ALREADY SPENT 10 MINUTES TALKING BACK AND FORWARD, BY NOW, YOU SHOULD'VE BEEN FINISHED PUTTING ALL MY INFO IN THE COMPUTER AND WE ALL BE HAPPY... STILL, THIS LAZY WOMAN WAS TOO STUBBORN AND INSISTED THAT I NEEDED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE NEXT DAY!!! I BELIEVE THE STATE IS WASTING MONEY ON THIS PEOPLE LIKE RAMONA AND THE OTHER MAN WHO WAS IN THE ROOM EATING BUT NEVER DOING HIS JOB!!! THERE ARE BOTH LAZY RIPPING OFF THE STATE. GUESS THEY NEVER MISS OUT THEIR CHECKS!!!! THE NYCID MUST CLOSE THIS OFFICE CAUSE KEEPING THIS OFFICE OPEN MUST COST A LOT OF MONEY AT THIS LOCATION. LETS USE THE NEW YORK STATE MONEY WISELY PLEASE!!! HAVE THESE PEOPLE EVER BEEN SUPERVISEDDO THEY HAVE SUPERVISOR?S??
I’ve been coming to this branch for 12 years now and have always had good experiences. The lady on the multi-media desk, the lady with strawberry blonde hair and the very petite lady with glasses at the central desk are always very friendly, helpful, polite. However, the library’s response to public safety is appalling. I was trying to find books to teach a class and some guy sleeping in front of the shelf just starts randomly cussing and getting abusive for no reason. There are two security guards but what do they do? Nothing except ask the patron to leave citing “please stay away, he has already assaulted someone else he has some mental problem”. I had to ask the staff to go and retrieve the item I needed instead. Wait what? If a person is in a shared, public space and is not reading, studying, looking for books but is instead threatening other patrons, you ask THEM to vacate the premises not the person minding their own business looking for a standard middle-school History book. I usually bring my adult learners here to show them how to get an ID, library card, resources for citizenship and immigration help in addition to ESL learning books and material. I won’t be able to do that any more since I can’t guarantee their safety. Why pay city taxes if one has no right to use public facilities in peace? A person has a right to defend themselves when using the library where the staff hired for that purpose refuse to. You can remove iconic buildings from a city but not protect a library patron from checking out a book free from unprovoked abuse and threats of physical harm? Seems legit. Cowardice much?
This library is a complete bomb. Just to think of all the money that has gone to waste, albeit a decade ago, just to "revamp" and renovate the two conjoining libraries back then (Ravenswood and Queens bridge) Haven't been around the neighborhood or this library in over 10 years only to return for a visit to find a poorly run library with no direction. Outdated books, non-exsistent "customer service" so called employees that keep running in and out of a room instead of helping visitors. The employees here are way worse then the former employees that were working there especially the manager and two female librarians whom by judging from their demeanor you wouldn't even know they were that(this library was better both employee wise and infrastructure wise when it was the Queensbridge stand alone and Ravenswood stand alone libra place is only good for a hangout spot for the homeless, and it would be better put to use if they shut this place down and use it as an intake center for the homeless because that is what it has become anyway. At least then it will begin to serve a purpose.
I was pleasantly surprised when I visited this library for the first time and was immediately approached by.a staff member, as they could read in my face I no clue where to return my book. I was given a tour of the library, where to find a reserved book that had been shipped to this branch. The library is clean. I I was impressed that as one person was leaving the front desk, another was there was to replace them in a seamless coverage of the front desk. All staff members were attentive to visitors, offering assistance and then some. Service with a smile. I was so impressed. Cudos to the manager who has instituted a policy of customer first. Wish other Queens libraries were as knowledgeable, approachable.and non hostile. Thank you.
Great library! I won't say big, but you don't feel cramped. Good amount of computers, they loan out laptops btw, ask at the desk. Did I mention that you can borrow a wireless modem from the NYC Library system!? ASK THE FRONT DESK!!! Anyway this library has a nice selection of books and media and a incognito second floor. What's on that Floor is an Amazing Adult Learning Center. There they have almost unlimited resources and case management, ESL, Ged, Sat, Microsoft Certificates, help with you resumes (and boy are they good!), A LEGAL CENTER!!! I could go on but my gummy bears ran out. Check em out out tell em Pat sent ya!
Hours of operations Tuesdays are from 1pm to 6pm. At 5:45 my 3yr old needed to use the bathroom. Bathroom doors already locked. I ask the worker by the name of Christian if he can please unlock the bathroom so my child can go. He stated I cannot everything shuts down at 15 min to closing. I pleaded and he said he couldn't. He had no consideration no heart no customer service what so ever. I had to leave right away in hopes my child wouldn't wet himself. Never recommending this library to anyone. This visit to the NYC public library was the worst ever. : this is for Christian, get a different job. You souless human being.
I love the Long Island City branch of the the Queens Public Library. The staff is exceptional. I have been enjoying this library for at least the past 10 years. This has been a haven for me. I have attended workshops, art shows, and meetings; borrowed countless books, worked with students, and observed community members of all ages enjoying all that the library has to offer. The youth librarian has offered numerous STEM and STEAM programs that delight the attendees. The library has such a variety of programing that there is something for everyone. The library is a treasure.
This library gave me a lot of new knowledge in English, especially teacher Sabbin Akter she is a very beautiful woman, she is a very competent teacher, energetic with positive energy, we came to class tired, but when we saw the teacher, I wanted to learn and my mood was uplifted, she gives a lot of knowledge and energy and good mood. The atmosphere in the classroom was always friendly. He will always help and tell you. I am glad that I was trained by Sabin and I advise everyone. She is a very professional and sincere teacher, it was a pleasure to study with her.
This library has a good amount of seating and some adult specific seating sections which is nice. But this has got to be the loudest library I have ever been to. If you go here during the after school hours there is nothing but a bunch of jerk high school-ish age children behaving like they're hanging out in their own living rooms. I have never witnessed the staff do a single thing about this. I have been trying to study for a professional exam but it is proving to be impossible at this library.
The staff were all friendly and helpful. It was clean and quiet, except for a baby that was having a small fit. I went early, during story time, so I expected as much. The computers are fast and the printers work well. The way the children’s books are organized is a little confusing, but it’s been a very long time since I’ve been in the children’s section so that could be the normal set up. They had a great mix of books for many different cultures.
I like it here, I come and hang out on my laptop almost everyday here. Its snug and cozy like being in a treehouse. I like the set up and how they have an outlet area where you can plug in and use your laptop and charge your phone at the same time. The staff is friendly. No one is perfect but they try to assist you the best they can, which is nice to get from a library.
I need to complete paperwork online for employment, hour before they closes and couldn't get it because it was 6:50pm and closes at 8 pm. The other staff member said you only have 45 minutes. The other staff said NO. When I ask what was the cut iff time she was thinking of what to say.
This would be an awesome library, however, teenagers play video games on the computers without using headphones until someone complained. Once that happened in I was in quiet heaven. The little books around are quite appealing except for the fact that they chairs are filthy.
Update 6/2022: it has improved slightly but not perfect for serious studies. It's the loudest library I've ever been to. People playing radios and loud music. Noisy and inconsiderate patrons and hyperactively that will drive you nuts, especially when your trying to study.
I went to return a book in the book drop on the outside of the library attached to the building. I enter the library to have a look around at 12:30 pm. The person at the desk was very friendly and he answered all of my questions. He got up
Was so noisy. Children are running around. As you see in the picture they were playing war games on the computer. People are watching a movie without headphones. Also, I couldn't find the output for my personal computer. I left there
Incomprehensible floor plan and chaotic signage. Staff need id badges so visitors can find them. Stocked with cheap generic printer versions of out-of-copyright classics--no typographic design or supporting commentary, unreadable.
Staff is friendly and helpful. Place was clean and cool the day I visited. They have vending machines and kids areas; scheduled activities are posted. Side note: NYPL card will not work here bc they are separate Library systems.
Horrible place to study. The facility may look beautiful, but the staff does nothing to keep the noise down. People playing music, talking on the phone, watching videos and talking on the phone. More of a social club.
It's usually hard to get someone to assist you the way he did. I told him what I needed to do and the time that I had to get it done. He signed me on, printed what was needed and left. All in about less than 15mins.
Kids from local schools loud and always cursing derelict always hanging around no peace and quiet it smells and too stuffy staff does not address the kids I have a service animal who behaves better than the humans.
Depends on the time you go. Sometimes it's good and can get things done anytime after school it pretty much becomes a day care. So pick your visiting times wisely.
Not sure why the other commenters said it was loud. Came in at noon on a Friday and it was quiet. The librarians and other patrons smile, so it seems pretty nice.
My favorite local library branch. They actually have separate children's area, teen area, and the library is clean and quiet as it should be.
Excelente atención , hice mi primer nivel , y la profesora excelente , el ambiente excelente , realmente estoy encantada con sus servicios ,
I love this library cuz the staff are really nice with me and they help me with reading, and give a lot of resources that help me study.
Great location with a variety of selections and the staff are always helpful and nice. Been coming here as a kid and never failed me.
Its quite you can print for free(Im 10 years old)I used to go here when i was little. They even teach!!
Taken precautions over COVID not too crowded! Open, but with a lot of measures and few patrons allowed.
Personally, I have had a positive experience here. And staff have been friendly.
