There isn’t a wide selection of food here so you may or may not find something that you’d be prepared to eat. Most of the food sold here is expired food which appears to be donated to them. Some of it, when it’s a little bit expired, is still edible but the problem is that they sell a lot of food that is VERY far past the expiry date. I’ve bought food a few times, before I wisened up, that was simply inedible and not worth eating even if they paid you to eat it. Food items that are up to 1 year or more past the expiry date. Beware. The prices are good on some items but not that great on other things when compared to discount supermarkets in town selling products that are not compromised in any way. The service is hit and miss. No bags are allowed in the store so be prepared to leave them at the front. I’ve had the one cashier with shoulder length hair raise his voice in disapproval with me 2 or 3 times over the last dozen visits over the last year for very minor things where there was no intent on my part to cause trouble, like not having my card ready. Sometimes the resulting anxiety isn’t worth a potential bargain. When I’ve reported to other staff that the food I had previously bought was spoiled and was still being sold there, my comments were met with a shrug and a laugh when I asked if they test food to be sure it’s edible before selling it that is well past the expiry date. They still didn’t remove it from the shelf. The store hours seem to change unusually often and they don’t keep them up to date on Google and even their website has proven to not be reliable so you may like to phone ahead for the hours, if you’re not coming midday on a weekday, to avoid disappointment. Overall this is a pretty disappointing place to shop. I’ve had more bad experiences with this store than good ones.

I want to start by saying I love Quest and they’re an amazing organization that has helped me and my friends survive quite well affordably. I’m always impressed with the inventory and I can’t seem to go there without spending $30 which is a good thing because I try to spend as little as possible but I get so many items for that price. My issue is that the manager at this location is very rude. She’s never smiling, kind or friendly. I just feel she has a negative and abrasive personality. She should be happy and enjoying working while helping the community but I feel like she treats it like a regular grocery store with an aim of the highest profit. There is a guy working cash and every time I say hi how are you? he doesn’t even respond or smile. He doesn’t say thank you and see you next time or anything at all. The transaction is over and he says nothing more. At least a thank you is appreciated. It’s actually quite awkward checking out. Sometimes I say hi when I come it and it’s not well received. Once I came close to closing and he seemed extremely agitated and told me that they were closing in ten minutes… I did know this which is why I was trying to make it before closing and grab the one thing I wanted. Other staff are helpful and kind and the inventory is great. Just very unhappy with the two issues mentioned.

i used to love coming here! before they would have good stuff with good prices, i would get clothes for my children, diapers, deodorants, it was good and it would help me so much. then they hired Jennifer, she would take bins and bins of stuff straight to her truck parked on the road which left nothing. Then they installed cameras and that stopped, some white haired lady would always come and teach them things and the place got better. white haired lady is gone and now same thing is happening again, nothing good in the store as the employees take everything. bins and bins of stuff. also if ur not white, jennifer will will discriminate against you. Cody is weird but is very decent, john is ok too. Wendy has her moments, one moment good and one not so much. however with Jennifer, she will follow you all the way out the store, like lady if i was going to steal something, it wouldn't be from quest. i swear if my life was a little better, i would never step foot in this store, but im desperate, everything is just so expensive, but thx jennifer for making me feel like a criminal every time i step foot here

This is an amazing organization that provides good quality affordable food to those that might be struggling a bit financially. They accept donations of food that supermarkets cannot put out or from individuals. The stock on the shelves is always changing. It's like a thrift shop grocery store! Lots of the signage in the store is in braille also, which I thought was pretty cool. If you know of anyone is a little low on cash or if you have any food to donate or time to volunteer, I would highly recommend to get in contact with these people. Amazing to know that places like this are out there.

$9 and change got me a box of instant coffee, loaf dark rye bread, blackberries, mushrooms, 2 packs of good kind of ramen noodles, hazlenutwafer cookies, cherry/cola tictacs, box of fruit-filled toaster pastries ( can't remember what they're called!) And prob something else I not remembering... Prices are what matches the income I've always been at... Too bad rent can't be the same way... Paying more than half my income, 595 of 1100. Never have I payed the 30% that is apparently recommended as a fair rent... Anyways, Quest is a very good thing! Thank you!

Quest food exchange on Dundas St. is one of my favorite places to shop. I set my step counter and walk from the west end to check-out what I can find at the store. I go there for the hair products. The staff are so kind and so respectful. The manager is always helping someone with something. I adore the woman who runs the store she is such a good person and is always kind even if you lose your membership card 4 times. Quest food exchange is on my weekly list of things to do. Say Hi to Cody when you go. Don't lose your membership card!

  • Heather Tremblay

I’ve been to shop numerous times with different instances. One instance, my membership expired and they still sold to me and told me to update my membership. Also, numerous instances where I didn’t have my card and they pull my membership up and serve me. The one day I’m going there for a wrist brace and the guy is refusing to accept my identification to complete my purchase. I got upset and exclaimed, my arm hurts. I am walking around in a sling and this guy was giving me a hard time to buy a wrist brace

Unwelcoming atmosphere, was rudely told I needed a referral from a social worker even though I already have a food bank card. Thought I got some good deals until I got home and opened a few packages - wasted $5 on rancid cereal and granola bars (that were only a few weeks past best by date). Milk was only $0.40 cheaper than at the store but expires in a few days. Freezers full of heavily discounted sketchy looking meat and stale donuts. Overall not worth it.

I have witness the (manager?) of this location be unmasked during the whole pandemic and said nothing. But seeing this woman be racist is the last straw. This place is really the least respectful towards its users. So disorganised, and management is clearly just awful people. Really, demoralising for those of us with limited incomes. Shame on this place for selling us expired food on top of it. Just let us eat it for free. Shame on you.

Recently they have raised the prices on mostly expired groceries. Nobody effort to buy & apparently after a couple of days they have to send them to garbage can. Waste of donated foods, waste of trucking & Labour. Some of the grocery items are cheaper in the market when they are on sale. Seems a new way to rip off low income people. On Broadway, stores like Donald's have better & cheaper deals.

  • David Charlie

I know that it's not high end food, but the meat is good and the prices are awesome! Staff overall shows respect and works hard. My former girlfriend who helped clean and open up the Quest in Burnaby years ago basically did it for for credit. So keep up with your awesome work and I will shop more often. Grin

Good prices on non-perishable food items that are near or past their best-before date. Produce is usually pretty sketchy. Long English cucumbers and avocados are almost always mushy and rotten. Lots of moldy fruit and vegetables that are not fit for human consumption. Extremely poor quality control at Quest.

  • tiffany royrock

They put plain Villagio bread in Portofino sour dough bags to get it out the door. Getting hustled by a food bank service is pretty hilarious . Everything is usually decent but this run almost half of my groceries are going into the garbage. It’s a thrift store for food ‍♀️ hit or miss …

  • Sharon Hericks

Some really great deals. Staff can be a bit rude. Tend to look down on people for having to shop at a place like this. DO NOT BUT BUY THE BREAD! At least not without checking it carefully. Pick 3 of any Bakery item for .10c but every time at least 2 were very moldy. Yuck.

  • Chesty Jefferson

They don't give dignity to the people who are poor enough they need to use this place. No dignity in being asked to pay full price or even any price for EXPIRED or rotten food. The board members wouldnt feed rotten food to their families, why should we?

  • C. S. Ardeleanu

The door sign says 13 Friday close at 4 30. The clerk already closed the door at 4 20 and refused entrance. This low life quality service needs to stop. PEOPLE DEPEND ON YOUR SERVICE, CODY CANT PLAY GOD UMOGST THE POOR !!!

  • Teddy Greening

Customer service was pretty decent and quite helpful . The selection of groceries wasn't all that good or else I went at a bad time when the shelves were close to being empty ...

  • chickyshack1978

Good store always clean. Staff are friendly for the most part. Great pricing hours are ok. Selection is what it is just wish the limits were a little more generous with families.

  • Robert MacPherson

  • Joann Cottrell

If you're lower income and looking to buy affordable groceries this is a great place to be. You need a referral to be able to shop here. Great staff, great service. Thanks Quest!

  • Julie S

Food quality and variety has gone downhill lately and prices gone up. Not as helpful as in the past. Still glad it's there but needs improvement this year please!

  • Theja Herath

Good place to shop. Some items not available but if they available they are cheaper. Mainly food items. The quality may not be high as the open market
