"We took our toddler for her first camping experience here"
"Decent place with good trails and beautiful nature (a decent amount of birds, but not much else besides some squirrels)"
"The sites are a little closer than we generally like but that isn't what will stop us from coming back"
"We decided to try camping out with our kids but wanted something closer to home in case they didn't like it as much as we did"
"Nice park very close to downtown Edmonton"
We took our toddler for her first camping experience here. She had a phenomenal time. Some things to note. Most of the tent camping is non-powered, so if you need power for medical reasons, make sure to let them know when you book. My husband has a cpap to help him breathe at night - we could have bought a battery pack, but we hadn't made a decision on a model yet. The bathrooms are very clean, the playground is large enough for a lot of children to enjoy, the water tap delivers a huge amount of water quickly so there's never a line for filling up water bottles or RVs and the sink for washing kitchen supplies has a deep basin - but you may have to wait as there is only one tap and 3 basins. The store at the entrance has ice cream, a few treats, fire wood, and some basic necessities for a reasonable cost. There are accessible trails to walk to the ravine and our toddler enjoyed exploring the plants, bugs and bridges along the way. Make sure to bring plenty of bug spray for the walk as the mosquitos are vicious in the summer. Our family came by to visit us during the day and many families left the camp ground to eat out or go to an activity elsewhere in the city - so the fact that this campground is in the city is definitely helpful. Lots of kids were biking around the camping site as it's a very safe place to practice. There is a ropes obstacle course that older kids can explore (at a cost) - I believe it is something you could take a whole morning doing. Our toddler didn't engage in either of these activities. The noise of the Whitemud at night is noticeable, so it can take away from the camping feeling. They have lighted the washroom areas, so it might not be very dark at night in your tent.
Decent place with good trails and beautiful nature (a decent amount of birds, but not much else besides some squirrels). Pro tip: if you come early in the morning (just before sunrise) and wait about 15 minutes there's a good chance that you will see some deer, beavers or even coyotes. The wild life tends to get scared off later in the day but early in the morning you can see some pretty decent stuff. Also not far is the rainbow Valley campground, aerial park and snow valley ski hill. Those amenities make it a great place to visit year round be it skiing and snowboarding in the winter or camping and spending a day at the massive +/ exciting multilevel outdoor jungle gym on steroids at the campsite.
Playground
No playground in the park
Restrooms
A bit untidy but good enough I guess
Dog-friendliness
Dogs are allowed but pretty sure they have to be on leash.
Picnic area
A few fantastic picnic areas along the creek
The sites are a little closer than we generally like but that isn't what will stop us from coming back. The night staff Clayton made the campsite feel like a police state. He chased me through the park when we returned to the camp and aggressively started challenging me on the speed I was travelling. That alone wouldn't stop us from returning (I may have been a km or 2 over the 10km per hour speed) but when our niece said he followed her around the park chasing her out of the picnic area that left us feeling it may be unsafe for younger women if he was around. All and all not bad but this one staff member will stop us from coming back and will stop us from recommending the location. Yes we left a message for the manager upon departure as well as a phone message but they have not returned our call. Disappointing.
We decided to try camping out with our kids but wanted something closer to home in case they didn't like it as much as we did. Check in was easy and the campground was well laid out. It was camping as I remember it. Kids on bikes. Fires crackling. A different atmosphere, all within city limits. You are aware of the traffic not far away, but it was to be expected, and not as bad as I thought it would be. For a trial run, it was perfect. And a wonderful time. The best compliment a campground can possibly get happens about 5 seconds after checking out. I looked in the mirror at my oldest son and he says "I wish we didn't have to go.".
Nice park very close to downtown Edmonton. 15 Amp power. Sites are quite large but not very private. The laundry machines were not working the week we were there. The park is very secure as you need a pass card to get in the gate. All the lampposts are left on all night so it never gets dark. That could be annoying for sleeping but you get used to it. The main building washrooms and shower are very clean. Lots of children noises as there was a large Arial park very close to our site and 2 playgrounds. Would most definitely return as it is in a fantastic location for exploring or visiting friends in Edmonton.
If you like challenges further than walking on flat ground, this is for you! Levels of difficulty range in green, blue and black. Black being the hardest, similar to a ski slope rating. I had a blast but you may find you will run out of steam before the two hours run out. So bring your water bottles, closed toe shoes and see what you think after challenging this mountain. Note that you can also skip and choose ones that interest you. Also, a good idea to bring a ponytail if you have long hair. Have fun!
Had a fun time with the kids camping in a tent. Not recommended if you're a light/sensitive sleeper as there is a significant amount of road noise being close to Whitemud Drive and quite a few lights all around the campground during the night.
Playground
Not anything fancy, but they were great for my kids.
Restrooms
The separate washroom facility is aged and the only operating showers were in the washrooms connected to the main building.
We started a post-Christmas light tour with a drive through the Winter Wonder Forest at Rainbow Valley Park. Beautiful displays and several cute themes. There isn’t really much time to stop and enjoy the lights because there are cars right behind you. Nice to visit but too short for the cost. It does seem to be very popular though. Long line of cars which just keeps moving along night after night. Worth at least one visit and proceeds go to charity.
One of Edmonton's best and most scenic trails! And this comment also applies to the entirety of the Whitemud creek/valley trail system... from Fox drive, all the way south to the Henday. If you've never been, you will find yourself surprised that such a diverse and massive wilderness exists in the middle of this city. It's truly one of Esmonton's top crown jewels. I highly recommend going and exploring this amazing gem of a place!!
My son had a blast on the aerial park. I went to target golf. All good! The people are very professional teaching my son how to hook and use all the challenges at the aerial park. It can be as easy or challenging as you wish. My son walked around for a while until going to the tougher parts of the contraption. As for the target golf, it's fun just whacking the ball hitting targets within 150 yards.
Restrooms
No public restrooms!
Very nice place for different kids activities at a park. Book online before you get there for the aerial park. The mining activity for the gemstones Is awesome. Pick a day with nice weather. Definitely need to come earlier in the day (or based on your booking). Very friendly staff. Try to choose a sunny day. No problem in the parking lot availability. I hired it’s good for kids five years to 15 years
Had a great time. Pushed our comfort levels a bit trying to keep up with our son. Got used to the heights after a while and had fun. Turned out to be a good workout holding on to ropes for dear life while standing on wobbly pieces of wood 30 or 40 feet in the air. We'll go again. Seems like the kind of activity that you could do a few times over the summer without getting bored.
Love the campground (five stars for that) but did not care for the other campers. Seems to attract rowdy, nocturnal people who I suspect live in their trailers. Was kept up to 4:30 AM every morning by slamming doors, shouting, music, etc. People in the next site washed about 10 large bags of what looked like winter clothing over two days--who does that on their summer holiday?
Very neat little park in the heart of Edmonton. Powered sites are only 15 amp service and that needs upgrading for today's campers. It was awkward to fill our RV with water as the only tap was at the one RV dump, and that tap required the user to HOLD the tap open. A better solution would be a tap on the way IN to the park. Very friendly, helpful staff. We enjoyed our stay.
The staff is friendly, helpful and quick to serve in any way. My children loved the mining for gemstones and we can’t wait to come back. Thank you!
Playground
The kids loved the playground and it was a great distraction while we made dinner as it was so close to the campsite
Restrooms
Very clean and well taken care of. They even have outlets if you need them.
Super fun! Went for one of their twilight specials with a friend and the place was really nice with string lights throughout. Was a lot more challenging than expected and there were ones that you have to have a lot of upper body strength to do. Definitely not just a place for kids! Also - good covid precautions. Mask wearing and sanitizing at every level.
Took our grandson(2YRS) down to watch all the people climbing the Aerial apparatus and play on the equipment for his size. It was very busy with people getting it in before heading back to school. The playground in the campground could use some work, as the wood edging keeping the sand in is broken and there are some metal stakes that could be dangerous.
It's short but oh, so sweet! With the short right space packed with displays, you feel completely immersed. More than just sparkly lights, these displays each have a story to tell. Every one more charming then the last. Colourful lights dance off beautifully carved ice sculptures, and around the next cotner a new friendly face. Well done! Would go again.
I love it!!! I went there with my family to sky, Rainbow Valley is an amazing place, just perfect to sky and snowboarding. My family loved, you can choose a new sky slide or advance, there lots of space to play with kids. You can eat there and spend a good family time there. I strongly recommend Rainbow Valley, it's an amazing place for family fun.
Attended the drive thru Christmas light show, was very organized well put together and cool to drive their from the comfort of your car and still see all the fun stuff they put together, doesn’t seem that big but you drive thru it slow enough that it’s still worth it in the end would definitely go back if they continue hosting it
Great Park with a ton of amenities just off of the whitemud. Tucked into the valley, there is a campground, a ski hill and an aerial park alongside some amazing natural area hikes along the creek. A true gem in the heart of the City.
Restrooms
Inside the ski lodge
Picnic area
Dispersed picnic tables around the park.
Secure and gorgeous. Even has some really neat climbing equipment with multiple platforms, obstacles, rappels and zip lines. Nice secure spots. Extra charges for additional entertainment, but city water and showers are included. Great city parkland nearby and walks in the river valley. Moderate walk to the nearest busses.
The blue shirts who work there are kind and knowledgeable with safety and first aid training. They do an excellent job of showing you how to properly equip your harness and practice hooking and unhooking your clamps for safety before you enter the obstacle course. I recommend good upper body fitness for the black levels.
A lovely place to walk and visit the birds, squirrels, chipmunks, etc. I know most dog owners are wonderful and responsible but my recent visit (April 18, 2018) had me concerned. It seems some dog owners aren't cleaning up after their dogs (poop). Other than that this is a favorite place of mine.
Excellent spot for a fun day, took my sister here for her birthday and there was never a dull moment. There are green paths for anyone in your party that isn’t the most daredevil and black paths for the adrenaline junkies. The staff are friendly and very helpful, overall a great experience!
This is a perfect place for a nice walk anytime of the year. Midway you can challenge yourself with climbing stairs back and forth. Can you do a set of 10 climbs? This also connects to the river valley network of paths so you can walk for hours . Beautiful scenery next to the river.
A very pleasant campground, the peculiarity of which is that on the one hand it is located right inside Edmonton (not on the edge of the city, not outside the city, but directly in the middle of the city). And on the other hand, you seem to be in nature: a river, trees, a fire.
Went to the Winter Wonder Forest Christmas lights tour. Probably my most favourite of the light tours this year. The Santa was 100% authentic! The staff are super awesome and the lights WOW!!!! Make sure to buy tickets online. The wait times can be a bit long but well worth it!
Scenic and tranquil trails that make you forget you are in the city. The sounds of the forest and the creek completely drown out the busy Whitemud freeway traffic in a matter of a few steps on the trail. Highly recommend spending some time here if you haven't already.
Pretty nice place. It's get REALLY cold in the valley at night sometimes (The 9°c on August 8th 2021 was pretty chilly), but overall really nice and close to everything it seems. The creek near our campsite sounds like sizzling bacon and that's pretty cool.
I was disappointed that my 8 year old daughter was not allowed to do the level one because she was over height. She found the higher levels difficult and she wasn't allowed to do the lowest level. That would have been fun for her I'm sure. Not impressed.
Great set up, alot of fun. Just be aware, don't be an only parent with one child over 125cm and one under, you will not be able to use anything of the ground level as you have to fully supervise the kids and 125cm is the cut off for the higher areas.
The play ground was amazing, they had obstacles for people of all skill levels. I would definetly recommend going was a great time!
Playground
The play ground was new and a great place for kids
Picnic area
So much green space to enjoy
It's okay. The showers and washrooms are nice. For power all they had was an extension cord, it didn't quite reach. We had to use our own cord to plug in out camper. The nice part about camping there is that campers get 35% off at the ariel park.
Good terrain for beginners. Within-city location and well-maintained snow/runs make it perfect as a quick fix for your skiing/snowboarding itch. On racing days it's an absolute zoo, parking can be very difficult to find and lift lines are long.
We came here for the winter wonder forest, it was ok. Considering how small the circle is they could've done more, there was a lot of empty spaces. We were more impressed by the big 'ninja warrior' looking structure than by the lights display.
Really cool experience, very challenging! Good for families or friends as long as no one is afraid of heights. I would avoid bringing children under 10 most of the obstacles are for bigger people (unless your child is REALLY good at climbing)
What a fun place to take the kids! The course was challenging if you wanted it to be, but for all ages and abilities. Downside, you could not take anything up the tower with you- not even water. In this heat it would've been nice to have some
Started at Whitemud Park and walked south through Rainbow Valley Park and continued south to the top of the valley. Round trip was approx 12 km. Trail is in excellent condition. You can grab a hot chocolate at the ski hill during the winter.
Rude and arrogant at the front desk. She is about my grand daughter's age. The lady at that time lectured and faulted me of not calling in with credit card details (in which the registered reservation would be cancelled by 6 pm.) I was in
Had a really good time climbing around at the aeriel park... It looks like something for kids, but there's also a lot of obstacles very well suited for adults... Heck, some you need to be pretty darn fit to overcome... Good practice if
I take my dogs down here as the trails take you through big trees and over really nicely built bridges. Its wonderful to have so much nature in the city. Beware that it is on leash only for doggies and no bikes allowed on the trails.
Wonderful campground located in the heart of Edmonton yet almost impossible to tell while staying here. The staff are helpful, polite and very accommodating to our needs. It is easy to get to which 8s nice when pulling in a trailer.
We were only one night But it was good But I didn't know till after I disconnected and was setting up that it's power and No water. I had arrived empty so had to go for each bucket of water, my fault. We added water before leaving
Such a fun place to go and push yourself to physically and mentally. Super safe, you'll never have to worry about falling. Seriously considering signing up for a season pass and going a few times a week for a good unique workout.
I thought the aerial park seemed a bit expensive, but it is worth it for the experience! You get 3 hours to play on everything but we were exhausted after 2.5. A great workout and a super fun afternoon! I will definitely be back.
This is a fun place for kids and adults alike to play around. Although you need to be not afraid of heights as the obstacles can get pretty high. But other than that, it's well worth your time to explore all of these obstacles!
Easy to do three full hours here - worth the money! Great thrills, challenging courses, lots of fun. Was harder in places than I expected, which is good. Would go again. Thirsty Thursday nights on the patio on top sound fun.
Beautiful and scenic. This is a great place to go if you wanna sit by a beautiful little lake that's very clear and you can actually see fish swimming around. Views are breathtaking and the atmosphere is very peaceful.
If you love to exercise and wanna see an amazing view of the park at the same time, you must see this place. Going up and Down the stairs several times I’m sure you will burn the unwanted fats in your midsection.
Very huge and lovely park,, some places here allow alcohol consumption. Good spot for family picnic, golf players. Boating is temporarily closed. Good activity areas for kids. Can spend whole day here …
Spent many a day down here snowboarding, using the Aerial Park and campground as a kid and am now enjoying it with my own little Great place,… most staff have been kicking around Snow Valley for years!!
Wonder place to visit after Christmas and before new year. This year they don't allow you to get off of your vehicle due to the pandemic issues. Was a cool and interesting place to visit for 10 minutes.
My son had a really great time, and we really appreciated the time the instructors took with him, he felt much more confident with their help. He wanted to climb every day we stayed at the campground!
There are some nice trails that go both South and north from here. It's about a 2.5 mile (4 km) walk to the river on the trails. Lots of mountain bike trails and good hills as well of you're running.
Nice place for kids only environment. Security guy is a little too power hungry. Harassed campers next to us to watch us and the other campers had no problems with us. Maybe not worth the 40 dollars
I stayed here for 5 nights in a tent and I am very pleased. Clean up to date bathrooms. Nature area and walking trails behind the campground. Only drawback was the construction by the bridge.
This is a great spot to start off the walking path that leads to the river. There is tons of light and animals even in the spring time. It is family friendly and has a lot of beautiful spots.
Beautiful campground with access to many activities. Had things to do and people to see and the location was perfect. Great walking, running and biking trails. Fall colors were vibrant.
Drove through the Winter Forest just before Christmas. 31 bucks for the car load. It took about 10-15 minutes and we'll worth the price. Santa was there and the displays were awesome!
Amazing, under used area in Edmonton. Just off the busy whitemud but once on the trail it feels like you're in the middle of nowhere. Lots of parking and very well maintained trails.
The ski hill was in fantastic condition, all the equipment is well maintained and running smoothly. It was a fantastic first experience for my youngest's first snowboard experience.
Enjoyed the Winter Wonder Forest lights and ice carvings. Nice displays. Helpful and friendly staff. Our timing was perfect with nice flow and no waiting. We went just after 5pm.
Absolutely amazing walk and trails. Trails are well groomed and people of all ages can take this walk. Lots of birds and squirrels to feed on the way. Kids will love it
Looks nice, and great for walks in the winter, but not a lot going on other than the paths during the winter. Love how it connects to the river near fort Edmonton park
It's really cool. It's not super expensive. It's not for everyone, because of heights and it does require some athleticism, but if you're up for it, it's a great time
Washrooms were kept clean, reasonable lighting at night, good trails and friendly staff. Raised tent pads. You can keep kids very busy for 3 hours at the areal park.
It's a nice walk to take in the city to get away from the city. Walking down behind the campground also takes you to some dunes that our kids love to climb on
Great place to walk! Trails are connected all the way to riverbend, blue quill etc. Usually some birds along the way that’ll eat pretty much out of your hand.
Super fun! Super safe! Makes for an excellent day out whether your group is small or large, there's room for everyone to choose their own adventure …
A small forest in the middle of our city! You can camp or just go for a lovely picnic without a long drive. Staff are knowledgeable, friendly and helpful
5-star services for sure! Their staff were very nice, friendly and so helpful. Campsite needs some improvement, BBQ / fire pit needs to be replaced.
Staff friendly. Nice washrooms. Great location. I am concerned about giving it 5 stars. Hope it doesn't become too popular and I can't get in.....
Our kids are taking snowboard and skiing lessons and we are extremely happy with the lessons, organization and facilities. Highly recommend!!
Beautiful spot to walk the dogs. Many smaller trails for my pups and I to explore. A small escape from the city, hidden within its walls.
Great ski hill for families and beginners. Not too busy and the staff there have always been so courteous and friendly. Highly recommend!
Awesome... give your self a challenge and push your landyard ahead and try to actual balance without grabbing..adds to the danger …
Unbelievably beautiful - a must visit especially during winter days - best of Edmonton - will add more pictures on my next visit
Amazing display of lights ! Weekdays are the best to visit. Really beautiful sculpture of ice and snow. we enjoyed it so much!
My family loves coming here for little hiking trips feels like we r not even in the city anymore love all the big trees!!
Was slightly disappointed Whitemud Park was closed but pleasantly surprised to find a new trail to explore …
As a photographer this is one of my favourite spots in edmonton for couples/family shoots. Also a really great walk.
The jungle gym is SOO MUCH FUN! Definitely tested my courage for sure but it was a blast can't wait to do it again!
Great hiking trails. Snow Valley Ski hills are great in winter but parking on weekends can be full so come early.
Nice weather today, good installation, pretty clean and inside the city. Good for first learners and family fun
Beautiful trails and a huge aerial obstacle course that is a blast for all ages over the height requirement.
Very nice and clean campsite. Great central location in Edmonton. An uber into town is between 15 and 20 $.
My favorite local ski hill in Edmonton. Great runs and great people. Best ski chalet in the Edmonton area.
So much fun! Definitely a workout Take your overly active kid who likes to climb, jump and scream! …
This is the Snow Valley ski area but in the summer it is a good place to visit and there is a food venue.
Campground in the city adjacent to a climbing attraction. Quick, easy access to extensive trail system.
Very peaceful, relaxing area to go for a walk with family, even saw a baby moose and lots of wildlife.
First visit snowy icy unwalkable. But went may 11 stunning beautiful some challenging parts …
Nice place for a walk in the morning or afternoon with lots of small animals for photographing.
I stayed two nights. Facilities were clean and easy to use. Playground was good for my kiddos.
Beautiful park anytime of the year! We went on a nice 4C January afternoon. My boy loved it.
Beautiful area with a well groomed and maintained hiking trail throughout the River Valley.
Went to see the winter wonder forest here. It was a drive through event. It was really nice
A very fun and challenging activity, great to do as a couple or family! Tests your limits!
