I brought my road bike in a couple of times just to do a couple of pedal swaps cost me six bucks each time. I told them I bought myself a used carbon road bike and wanted to know how much a time up would be they said it would be about $59. The price on that I thought was a little outrages but this girl that was working there said that if you want to take in in and have us look at and make a few little adjustments that's free of charge so I thought ok cool. So I brought in and told him my front dehrailer his shifting kinda funky and could just use a quick indexing this big guy I don't know his name just seemed like he hated his job and had a bad attitude im there with my pride and joy bike and I'm so excited just about cycling and this guy was just such a big downer. Just really changed the mood for me and I was the o my one in there. So he took a quick look at my bike me thinking he can make a few quick adjustments for free he goes and tells me oh well this is going to be $12. A little frustrated and annoyed not wanting to pay money for someone to just take a look at it I have to pay money after being told they can make a few adjustments for free I said ok that's fine. He makes some quick tunes on it and really didn't feel that much better and then goes and tells me my bike is not safe to ride my hub is bad I may need a new wheel and my Dehrailer hanger is bent andfor everything will be $150 so I should really get it fixed. In the way of cost I can find brand new parts online instead of like they said having them rebuild the hub I told them what if I can find the parts online strand of them ordering it and he said oh well we can just up charge you then. That when I said ok I'm not ever coming here again every time I e come in this place it has been awkward amd not too many people seem friendly I live ten minutes from this place and I'm 100% sure I'll be taking my bike to a different place for another opinion and try to find some one who is more friendly oh yea and when he took my rear wheel off he lossened the quick release and hit my rear tire hard to break it loose with his fist something I did not appreciate instead of being gentle with it he did that brand new my bike was $1,300 and I have a big ofe hitting my rear wheel with his fist. He needs to take in a little consideration for people's pride and joy I worked hard to get this bike and he treats it like this. Anyways after this final experience I will not be going there ever again and instead would rather drive 35 min further to go to the place were I bought my cycling shoes at.
I use to do all my own work on my bikes when I was younger. Mostly BMX bikes but that was a time when everything I rode had ball bearings and single gears. I haven't been on a bike in a long while but due to poor feet I decided to get back into it. I decided to go into the 1604 (Alamo Ranch) location since it was one of the closest bike shops in the area just to look around and see the advantages of a bike shop over a department store and I am glad I did. I was able to make a purchase after being properly fitted to a bike. They didn't pressure me and advised me on what I should get. Since then, I have been back two more times. I found an old used beater bike in decent condition that needed a bit of work. I did a lot of the work on my own but some parts I couldn't due like remove the rear gears from the rim. I was able to take the rim on and have them remove it on the spot for a small $8 charge and then I was able to clean and rebuild the rear hub. I also purchased a new derailleur and shifter and installed that myself. During the adjustments I found the rear axle had a slight bend in it and I thought that was causing shifting issues on the new equipment. I finally gave up and took the bike in this morning to have them take a look. It turns out the axle is bent but that wasn't the complete issue. They noticed right away that in my ignorance I purchased a shifter and derailleur that wasn't compatible. They didn't hesitate to offer a fix and I left it there to hopefully pick up next week and have a dependable beater bike to ride around town.
Jon, mike, and the rest of the crew are top notch. I walked in looking to rejoin the cycling (mountain bike) crowd after a 15 year hiatus and was instantly greeted warmly by staff. They were attentive to my needs and budget. Being wary of impulse buys myself, they were understanding and left me with some info and pointers to dig a little deeper on my own. After some googling from home and visiting a few competitors, I came back to them to test ride a bike and was instantly sold on the ride. I initially was unsure of which color scheme I preferred. But, without skipping a beat they had the other bike down from the top rack and side by side to each other allowing me to make a comparison. Once the color and model were finalized, they thoroughly checked through the bike to ensure a safe and smooth setup. Not only did they provide on-the-spot instructions/overview and key points on these new bikes, but they customized the entire bike to fit me perfectly, including filling the air shocks to the recommended PSI for my size (I’m a larger fella @ 6’4”/275lbs so the air shocks charged correctly was important to me). This seems like something that most bike shops should do, but the attention to detail provided far surpassed what I experienced from the big box stores and another local competitor. They didn’t try to rush me for the next sale and I felt heard and my needs met. I could not have been happier with my purchase and will be back again shortly to outfit a bike for the wife shortly.
Ordered a bike here... Didn't come in on agreed time.. this sucked because I made plans to go on a birthday trail ride with friends and family that same weekend so I was bike less.... Mr. John saying ,"if there is a will there is a way'", listened me with a open heart and took the time to see if it was possible if I can pick the bike up on it's current route, to see if I can get it in that Friday prior to the birthday ride but after calling UPS and manufacturer it wasn't possible... So Mr John saying, "we are all about solutions here " , was able to to arrange a free rental in my size mountain bike at the ride away bike in thousand oaks... FOR FREE! ⭐... A nice Giant bike by the way! .I really don't ask for much for my birthday and haven't celebrated in years but , Because Mr John's great customer service and willingness to hear me out and solve my problem he saved the one celebration I actually wanted to have and it was one of the best birthdays (trail rides)ever! On top of that he gave me very quality unbiased advice on all my concerns and questions getting into this niche. I would give 333 stars if I was allowed but I'm limited to 5 which is a understatement of this shops value . Customer service likes this is rare from what I experienced . Thanks John .
I went in to exchange a tube which I bought a month ago and didn’t have a receipt as proof it had a pin hole when I took it out of the box to mount. The mechanic which was rude and made me feel uninvited to this establishment accused me of mounting it on the bike!... he should learn better customer service skills!... if you want to promote a business and the respect of the bike community. bickering over a $7.99 tube is not the way to build you business for future bike customers! Business 101... learn better customer service skills... the young lady behind the counter was more understanding of the situation. Update I went back to get a tire insert to prevent flats on my sons bike after getting a flat… I figured I would give them another try… well turn out they overcharged me $30 for a $23 item went back and got a receipt for a $7 credit still have not seen the credit and it is over a month.. this place over charges and rips off people! I’ll stick with Amazon for my bike parts and can’t wait for bike world to open! Never again am I setting foot back in this establishment!
Not a good shop. My son had 3 flat tires fixed there. Each fix resulted in a flat within 48 hours. Each time I returned I mentioned the short time between visits and they kept saying I had bad tubes, replacing them and charging me. After the third replacement here I went somewhere else. I told them nothing about the previous flats and when they took out the tube they ran their hands inside the tire and found hard burrs they said were the reason for the flat. I shared the experience at Ride Away Bicycles in Alamo Ranch. They said that this should have been caught the first time, but the fact that the second and third times were not excusable since the times between were so short and I mentioned the issues. They also are far more interested in talking to each other than the customers. Won't be back here again.
I had been hesitant to come here because of the negative reviews, but I had a great experience! Brought my wife’s road bike in for a tune up. I had called ahead and was given detailed options for different levels of tune ups with prices (sounded very reasonable). When I arrived I expected to just drop it off and be on my way, but the man took a look at it and tested everything thoroughly in front of me and said it didn’t need a full tune up, just the front gear shifter assembly needed to be fixed because it wasn’t working. He said that it would probably be done today and would only cost about $20! He could have easily sold me on much more expensive service. Assuming it all pans out like he said, they will have definitely earned my business!
I bought a bike on Amazon along with additional gear for the bike and had Ride Away Bicycles put it together for me. (They did an excellent job, and I had no problem with the installation.) Update: They didn't properly tighten my handlebars, so when I went into a dip on a trail, the handlebars rotated forward and took me with them. It was a good thing I was wearing proper protection gear, or I would have been seriously injured. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I would NOT use their services again, and I would NOT recommend them to others. Downgraded to two stars from five because I think they should have checked their work before a customer used and trusted the services being performed by “professionals”
The staff is definitely friendly but what made me give them 3 stars versus 4 or 5 was that when i came in to buy tubes, they said i can use slightly smaller tubes since they didn't have the ones i needed in stock and they said it was perfectly fine. i had a hard time getting my old tubes out since my bike is a foreign bike so i brought it in for them to do, along with the tubes purchased from that previous visit. the tech said that he could do it, but they would puncture easily and the tubes i needed were...guess what: not in stock, but they would order it for me from their huebner store and should be here by Tuesday this past week. It's Saturday and still no phone call. And why did i get conflicting info from the techs?
I've purchased three mountain bikes from Ride Away, one at the Culebra location, one at the Huebner location, and yet another at the Thousand Oaks location. I live near the Culebra location but twice I needed a bike that they didn't have there and they called over and found me the bike at their other locations. Have had the bikes serviced at least 7 times over the past 4 years and every time I go in the staff is friendly. They get right to you when you walk in the door. They're warm, knowledgeable people. They don't pressure you or anything. They just give you good advice and good service. If you read differently in another review it must have been a fluke or or someone who is a chronic complainer.
May 2018 One star * After initial visit and purchase of a bike, the staff was unfriendly and not engaging at all. Had many complaints about lack of customer service and attitude. UPDATE** 2-3 stars. After speaking with the company Owner Ruben, appears things may have improved. On a recent visit, I felt more welcomed. Keep it up! UPDATE*** Now 3 stars. On subsequent visits, they continue to be friendly and engaging. Hope this is for all customers and not because they know me. Will re- review if I have any service done. UPDATE**** 4 Stars. Have made several visits and purchases and have ordered another bike. Everyone is now very engaging and friendly. Great job on turning a bad experience around.
It is not too often I will write a review but on this occasion visiting this store for the first time was very disappointing. I was there with my family asking for brake levers, told me where they were and that was it. My problem was one, they weren't in the place the associate said they were. And two, the other place they were was behind the service counter! I was there for a good 10 minutes obviously needing some assistance...NOTHING! So I figured I would return the favor and go out with NOTHING! And what troubles me was it was just me and my family there no other customers.
They were able to order the bike I wanted and had it in a week later. Was really sold on buying from here due to being told they’d fit the bike to me when it came in. When I went to pick up my was really disappointed with the 30sec bike fit. Just had me throw a leg over it and pedel a few times. “Fits you perfect right out the box” or something along those lines. Really disappointing first new bike purchase. Still tinkering with the fit on my own. Wasn’t expecting a full on professional bikefit but they shouldn’t be using that as a selling point.
Went there to get my wheel replaced with 2 spokes only, but they relaced my whole wheel with new spokes without calling me which they over charged me. (even though I gave them my number just in case there was gonna be some overcharging). I had the right spokes because rad rides bicycle shop gave me the right size spokes. Other than that Ride Away bikes didn't bother taking off my old spokes(even though they were in still in good condition). Instead they just cut off all 36 spokes which is $36 right there. Don't trust them
Bob, the service mgr is rude, inconsiderate, and an a--. I've had the misfortune of interacting with him twice, and both times he essentially accused me of stealing from the shop. His arrogant attitude has driven this enthusiast away from this store forever. Every other employee I've interacted with has been great! But I will never spend another penny at Ride Away Bikes because of Bob's crappy attitude and arrogance. BTW, I ride high end bikes and from brick and mortar stores as often as possible.
A great little shop. Shout out to the guys over there. A great place for bike advice and getting your bike serviced. I'm getting back on the bike after a number of years with no riding due to injuries. Good to stop by some of the local bike shops again. Glad to see that there's still some around. Due to COVID, quite a few of them are going away. Or they're being bought up by the big manufacturers. So be sure to frequent your local, independently owned and operated bike shops.
Went in looking for a bike that could take a 4 or 5 ft drop and the man said one would probably cost 2 to 3000 so I asked to be shown one so he set me up with another guy in there and he said he dosent know of any bike shop in town that would have something like that after he led me around the store looking for a bike to show me???. No one in there had much knowledge I'm surprised they can tie their shoes. Would not recommend go to planet bike
Needed the lock-ring tightened on a new hub, since I didn't have a cassette tool and figured I'd only use it once, I came here to get it tightened. I was willing to spend a few dollars for the guys to tighten it down but when I brought it in and asked how much it would cost, they got it tightened in all of 30 seconds and said they didn't need any payment. The people in the shop seemed knowledgeable and like they cared about the customers.
Everything is overpriced and most of the components available are bargain bin quality sold for a premium. You can find most of the stuff they sell at Walmart and Amazon for much less. Prices for tune ups and cleaning are also way overpriced. You can get a basic tune up for $20 less at Bottom Bracket Bike Shop and they'll also have better quality components available for purchase. Skip this chain store and "Ride Away" towards a local shop.
I've been meaning to write a review of this place. The people here are very friendly and very helpful. John has been on point when it comes to anything with the bike to include his honesty about what I need. They are interested in building a relationship with their customers and it shows whenever I go in. As long as I live here, I will go to this bike shop only. I highly recommend them to anyone, super bunch of employees!!!
We brought my wife's bike in to get both tubes repaired for her bike. They said it would take about an hour as I could see they were busy and we were good with that. They could see the whole family was already in their riding gear, so they stopped what they were doing and got it done in 10 min and we were on our way. We really appreciated the quick help. Highly recommend.
The staff was friendly until I told them I wanted to upgrade my department store mountain bike. They said they're not fixing department store bikes. I asked for the tools so I could do it myself, they mechanic wasted time looking just to say they didn't have all the tools. I would not recommend this establishment if you want your bicycle fixed or to order parts.
Walked in looking to buy some riding gloves and possibly some bibs, however I was never greeted once. There were no less that 3 employees present. One was with a customer, the others basically ignored me. Needless to say, I did not purchase anything from this store. A simple hello would have sufficed... I'm not sure why I was not worth speaking too... smh...
I had a good experience. Went in today and didn't buy anything. I wanted to buy cable ends and I was given 3 for free. That's the type of business that will get my repeat business. Taking my bike in for a tune up this weekend. The store is very clean. Prices are a little higher than other bike shops. I recommend this shop because of the friendly staff.
I came in with no idea what I needed, but knowing that I was DEFINITELY going to end up buying a bike on fb marketplace. I spoke with a man named John and he was so so helpful even though he knew I wasn’t going to buy that day. If I’m able to commit to cycling, I’ll definitely be back to buy from this shop because he was so kind ❤️
I've been taking my bike to ride away bicycles since I moved to San Antonio and back in 2010 and they haven't let me down. They've done everything on my bike from tune ups to break changes Cable changes even the advice on trails! It's truly a one stop shop. The service is quick and the staff is friendly. In the prices are good too.
I came in helpless and lost. Angie was so kind and helped me bring in the bike cause the tubbing on my back tire came out. She was so helpful and taught me about the gears and how to take the tires out and in. She Answered all my questions and was very patient with me. Thankyou so much Angie for all your help and knowledge.
Went in to get my (gasp) “department store bike” tuned up. Sales girl was condescending, rude and belittling. Told us to go to another location because they weren’t working on Department Store Bikes. No thanks! I don’t want to give any of your locations my money if that’s how your going to treat me.
I always feel welcomed when I walk in here. Bought my first bike off Craigslist and took it to them for a tune up/ upgrades. Despite being an amateur , the staff here is always very informative. The manager "John" is always very helpful as well, and truly cares about the bike community.
Do not go to this shop. Wish I had never stepped foot in this place or met the guys that work there. They have terrible attitudes. They say my bike was not fixable and a liability but took it to another shop and was fixed quickly. I think they wanted me to buy a bike from their shop.
Jon the GM was incredible! The two hours it took me to decide on my bike and get it all rigged up how I wanted were a delight. I highly recommend coming here. I left out the door ready to hit the trail. I purchased the Orbea Oiz H30 and took it out riding today. It was a blast!
Ride Away bike shop is the best and customer service is awesome they fix cheap bike all the way the high end and everything in-between and they will order your part if they need to. I've been here about 4 or 5 time to get different things fixed and never had a problem.
This is great! Excellent customer service and top notch repairs. I took a damaged wheel here and they did the best they could but couldn't completely get it true. Made me the offer to try or get a new wheel discounted. They also recognize our military with a discount.
I really liked the service of this store! everything for a bicycle, spare parts, clothes, water bottles and everything, everything you need for cycling! very good service, nice guys, honest, positive energy in the store!!! I recommend!!! …
Full service bicycle shop. Great selection of accesories and parts at competitive market prices. The staff was friendly and aswered all my questions. I will definitely go back the next time I have bike issues, or need accesories and/or parts.
I have lived in the area since 2011 . I know most of the guys at the store. They have bent over backwards to help me on many occasions. I would highly recommend them . Go visit them if you in the Alamo Ranch area. Sincerely Billy Bob Wilson
Horrible service, I paid half up front for a grey bike and when I went back to pay the other half and pick it up they had the wrong color, also took it in for the free fix and they did nothing to the bike. They didn't even air up the tires
Great customer service. Bought a bike online (from a big-box store) and arrived without pedals and the quick release skewer. John took a look at my bike to make sure I got the right size. He was very helpful. Highly recommend to anyone!!!
Visiting from Indiana - got a flat Wednesday on the Fox Trail and dropped off bike near 4pm that day - i told them I’m leaving area on Friday morning and they complained the repair for by Thursday afternoon! Great service. Thanks a ton
We have been frequenting this bike shop since it opened and have always received professional service. Tonight the gentlemen working in the shop went above and beyond the call of duty and as a single mom it is so greatly appreciated!!!
Great customer service here. I love their location and how they take their time to answer any question you may have. Would definitely recommend this bike shop for anyone that has any questions about bikes and accessories.
I'm an experienced rider and have been to the Alamo Ranch twice in the last six months for minor repairs. Both times the staff was able to fix my bike on the spot at a reasonable price. I recommend you give them a try.
Took the mountain bike in for a full overhaul after years of riding punishing trails and ignoring needed repairs. They finished the bike below the estimate price and it rides like it's perfectly new. I r8 8/8
I originally had this placed as a three but I went back and they changed my mind. The customer service was great and they helped me with everything I needed and then some. I would definitely recommend them.
Friendly staff, good service and they always take care of my repairs. They are also very knowledgeable. This is one of the few places in town with reasonable prices as well. I'd highly recommend this shop.
Did not wrote review for my first two services just because of some costumers reviews. For three times that have my service here I’m very happy and satisfied. Employees are knowledgeable and helpful …
Very knowledgeable and helpful. Answered all of our questions and Offered solutions to all of our problems. Would highly recommend as your one stop shop for all of your bicycling needs.
Went there for a small service only part and the guy there was the best. Not only did he have the part but didn't charge me. I will take all my business here from now on. Very friendly.
This location is highly recommended. They collaborate with you to choose the best option based on your requirements. Angie was excellent! She was very trustworthy and knowledgable.
Really wanted to ride today, got to the trail and had a flat. Ride away got me up and running in 15 minutes, great customer service!! Thanks so much for making my ride possible!!!
Awesome bike shop. The staff are always friendly and helpful. They have done great work on our bikes and the location is very convenient. I would definitely recommend this place!
Ride away bicycles is not only great for being a giant retailer but because their customer service is amazing. They help me with anything and everything. And very informative.
Brought my son's bike here for some basic work on the headset. Turnaround time was fast and the price was great. I couldn't be happier with how it turned out and will be back.
Ride away near Alamo Ranch has helped me get my bike sorted out countless times. Friendly and knowledgeable staff always know the right fix. Support your local bike shop!
Local business in San Antonio. Replaced the tube and adjusted the seat for my child. In and out in under 15 minutes. Super Friendly staff and personable. Highly recommend
I just got my brakes and derailers adjusted. They didn't charge me for anything unnecessary and worked quickly while I waited. They were very helpful. Great experience!
Jake is always very helpful! I took my fixie in to get serviced and he even rewrapped by bars. Very thoughtful. I love coming to Ride Away Bikes, thanks for all you do!
These guys are great. My Giant Frame cracked. I had owned the bike for 9 years. They replaced the Frame and no charge. I am very impressed with their customer service.
If your bike is below $200, help yourself, trust them. Anything else, steer clear of this site, careless and details lacking lately. Not a serious bicycle place.
I absolutely love this place. The staff is super friendly and helpful. We are beginner riders and saved up to get two road bikes. We absolutely love our Giants.
Been here a few times and always same result, bike is not fixed accordingly, wrong diagnosis, and some staff is not friendly at all. I will not be going back.
Angie was awesome and knowledgeable with the products. The bike tech went above and beyond in making sure our bikes were all set and ready to go. Thank you!
Friendly folks that do great work. They are super busy due to Covid & honest about work time needed which is appreciated. They have great maintenance plans.
I will always use these people for my bike needs. They did amazing work and came in 70 dollars under what they quoted me at. 10/10 would recommend.
I had my bicycle repaired by Jake l and he was friendly, really knowledgeable, and real down to earth guy. Had a great experience! I Recommend him!
Wonderful employees here .. very helpful and always so friendly each time I come in...this is definately my go to place for any bike needs..
Great professionalism and awesome service was given to me as I had new brakes installed. Very polite and customer friendly staff Thank You.
Ask if they could tighten my cone to the wheel. Told me it’ll take 10 months to do. Which could take less then a minute to do.
Dropped my bike off for spoke repair. They did very well and at a great price. Bike was ready at the day promised, also.
A good honest shop, that's hard to find. I will be a return customer cause of the positive attitude they have. Thanks.
They are amazing people to deal with, new place to take my bike for service from now on. "Kent 700c electric bike"
3rd time visiting, 2nd time purchasing. Employees are knowledgeable but not pushy. Very helpful and friendly.
The lady there took a lot of time to explain everything regarding my bike she even installed my phone mount
One of my favorite bike shops in SA! Very knowledgeable group that always goes out of their way to help.
Jake was awesome very friendly and helped me with everything I needed for my bike! Thanks Jake Lopez.
Unfortunately their selection of bicycles was very very limited. Bikes are in very high demand
The sales woman is very helpful and friendly. She knows all about bikes and accessories.
Best shop in town. Prices for repairs are reasonable and customer service is top notch.
Love this shop. Always ready to answer any question. Easy, friendly, and knowledgeable!
