Visitied Colosseum with guide from Roman Vacations. At first, it was out of necessity (as official tickets for the day I wanted were sold out), but now I am happy I could have experienced Colosseum with the guide. Let me explain why in few points: - I wanted to visit Colosseum including arena. Roman Vacations offered this - some agencies offered tickets for visit no sooner than 5 days. Roman Vacations? The next day (and still couple of slots in that day) - on our way there, cca 15 minutes before start, I got phone call from company, making sure all is ok and we will make it. Of course, we got there in time, but it was nice to know they care - staff at the front desk was very friendly and helpful - I was surprised the group consisted of only dozen of people! Almost felt like personal tour, and was really an advantage later, inside of Colosseum - Mitch (from Romania) spoke almost all the time. Even while walking towards our destinations, he did explain life in the era, sharing lots of interesting facts. Often with humour. Still, given the fact it was almost 3 hour tour, it was impressive - Another praise for Mitch - since we were small group, he was making sure we are together at all times. Once, one elder couple got quite behind on the staircase, he noticed it right after next corner and we waited there until all of us were reunited again, reminding them through the radio where to go. Might not sound like a big deal, but this place packs so many people it is easy to get lost in crowd while focusing on the artifacts on display. - Mitch also shared lots of information that was not widely known, so despite knowing thing or two about Colosseum, I still gained a lot of new knowledge. Palatine hill and Roman forum were also part of the tour, but I did not enjoy them too much in 34 degrees Celsius :-) As a conclusion, it wad very exciting experience for me - I learnt a lot of things thanks to Mitch and can wholeheartedly recommend Roman Vacation tour and their guides.

BEWARE! This company sells you tickets THEY DO NOT HAVE ON-HAND. They'll gladly accept your money and then hang you out to dry if they aren't able to get all the tickets that they took reservations for. They will text you just a few hours or days before your scheduled tour time and try to get you to reschedule to another day. THIS WILL RUIN YOUR VACATION IF THIS NEW, RANDOM DATE/TIME DOESN'T WORK FOR YOUR SCHEDULE. Unfortunately, this shady practice is common with seemingly all group Colosseum tours. My advice is to skip the group tour altogether and buy a general admission ticket directly with the Colosseum. Yes, you may miss out on some fun facts, but at least you won't miss out on seeing the Colosseum entirely when this company cancels last second on you and now it's too late to find other tickets. EDIT TO RESPOND: Your smug reply and inability to even feign remorse demonstrate what kind of slimy company you are more than anything I can say. Yes, canceling 4 days before a scheduled tour is a HUGE deal for 99% of people...the fact that you don't seem to recognize that is telling. Thanks to you, instead of enjoying myself while I was in Venice I was forced to frantically search for other providers who actually had Colosseum tickets available for the dates I would be in Rome...not an easy task LAST MINUTE. You can pass the blame all you want, but if someone makes a RESERVATION with you for a date and time, you should be able to FOLLOW THROUGH with that reservation. Do better.

*TERRIBLE TOUR GUIDE* i went on the Colosseum/Forum tour with my mom & 4 other people. i’ve been a professional tour guide for 5 years in hawaii & i just moved to europe for a masters degree in archaeology. i was excited for this tour to learn about my passions & experience such a piece of human history with my mom. this was the most disappointing & disrespectful tour i have ever been on. the guide (unbelievably mad i don’t remember his name) was RUDE, DISRESPECTFUL, and CONDESCENDING. he constantly complained when his guests were taking photos or using the bathroom during “free time” - he told us 2x we would stop at the gift shop then completely skipped it. to the point where i considered just handing him the headset and leaving. and the other people were supportive of that!!!!! instead of answering questions he spoke down to each of us. there were more nonsensical pop culture references than history. and 90% of the time none of us understood what he was referring to. half the colosseum portion he spent fueding with & talking bad about a different guide from a different company. to the point where we were racing to beat her to different talking points - skipping chunks of the tour. the best part of the tour was taking a deep breath once it ended. i’m unbelievably disappointed. this was by far the most appalling tour i’ve ever been on & the guide has NO business ruining peoples once in a lifetime chance to see this chunk of human history.

Dreadful experience! DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS TOUR COMPANY! I would absolutely recommend going with a different tour company. Our guide was obviously bored and hardly spoke! We resorted to looking up information online as the tour was going on, in order to understand what we were seeing! Other tour group leaders had folders with images to help bring the ancient structures to life...not ours! Check that you are allocated to the tour you paid for. We paid for a more expensive and comprehensive tour, but there was a mistake made by the tour company and we were sent on the incorrect tour! Their response to their mistake has been hopeless ie. minimal. With so many tourists around, they don't care if they get it wrong for you. It was such a disappointment compared to every other tour we have done during our trip in Italy. Avoid this tour company and book elsewhere.

Booked a short notice and didn't regret it. Knowledgeable guide who bought the tour to life and reacted with the tour members. He didn't just read from a script. Note the tour is "at pace" due to the vast amount to see, so wont be suitable for all, especially as the paths at the forum are obviously a bit old!!! There are often other tours competing to get to the same views and indeed in October its appeared that the skip the line queue was longer than the actual just turn up queue. We booked a small number queue and there were 16 participants. I wouldn't want to be on a tour with more. The meeting point/office is close to The Colosseum and the lady in the office was very helpful. Take a water bottle and good walking shoes - don't go for a big sightseeing walk beforehand! Do recommend this tour and Antonello as a guide.

We were able visit Rome for a brief period of time and wanted to make the most of it. We did the Rome City Center walking tour with Angela. The tour was wonderful. Angela gave us the history of the area, making it come alive. Although we were a bit tired from traveling, that became secondary because we enjoyed seeing Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon. We were encouraged to ask questions and able to see historic sites that were unknown to us. Angela is enthusiastic and truly focuses on making the tour perfect for you. In addition, we did the small group Colosseum tour the following day. We are recommending Roman Vacations to our friends.

Angela and Mircea saved the day and turned our Roman experience into something truly remarkable and exceeding all expectations. We booked a small group tour of the Coliseum, Roman Forum and Palatine hill. Mircea is an excellent tour guide and is very knowledgeable, friendly, and funny. We were truly lucky to have him as our tour guide and would recommend him and any tours he may do. He even got us to a taxi to get to our next tour that Roman Vacations booked for us at the Vatican. Roman Vacations will go above and beyond for their customers and will create an amazing experience. Highly recommend utilizing this tour company.

My spouse and I thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the historical Jewish Ghetto in Rome with our tour guide Brian. Brian gave us a thorough background of Jewish presence in Rome and answered our questions with detail and extra context. It was a new perspective because so much of what we’ve heard of Jews in Europe has focused on Germany and Poland, so hearing the Italian story was interesting. This was not a long walk and included some sitting. Our tour also included a taste of some excellent gelato from a kosher vendor in the Jewish neighborhood.

We booked this tour originally because it was the only way to get tickets to the colosseum so late. Although it cost more than planning ahead and doing a self guided tour, this was so worth it! Mircea had a great personality and sense of humor and was very knowledgeable about the subject and seemed to really enjoy his job. The group is kept small so it seemed more personal and made it easier to get around in the sea of other very large tour groups. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting the colosseum.

We wanted to go on a Colosseum / Palatine / Forum tour with a bunch of friend and we chose Roman Vacations because of the positive reviews. Turns out the reviews were more than deserved! We had the chance to have Mircea as our guide. Honestly this guy is amazing... His English is flawless, his knowledge is impressive and he is an unstoppable (good) jokes machine! If you want to know everything about Rome and its amazing monuments and history, don't hesitate, just book a tour with this guy!

It was a beautiful experience. Our tour guide showed us the Roman Empire and explained the history in detail. It was a group of 10-12 people and our tour guide showed us around. It was super crowded though! Beware of the guy’s standing outside of the Roman Empire while you exit. They will try to fool you around with some stupid bracelet of good luck Apparently!!!! Then he will ask you for money. I will be having a tour with this company in the future for the spots i missed in this visit.

¡Fue increíble! Tomamos el tour al coliseo y todo fue como lo esperado o incluso mejor. Fuimos un grupo de dos familia con niños, a los niños les dieron un bonito detalle para que se distraigan durante el recorrido y empezar de la mejor manera. El recorrido nos lo hizo Mith, y desde que empezamos a caminar nos empezó a contar todo el recorrido, desde afuera del coliseo, por dentro y hasta en la salida. We had a tour of the Jewish Ghetto with Brian and it was wonderful. Brilliant insight into such an interesting part of Rome. The tour covered the whole history of the ghetto from it's founding to the horrors of the holocaust. While there were a lot of sad stories there were plenty of stories that show the good side of humanity. Brian was friendly, knowledgeable, happy to answer our questions, and clearly has a passion for the area and topic. Would highly recomend this tour.

A great tour of Palatine Hill, Roman Forum and the Colosseum. Mircea has lots of legitimate knowledge of history and is obviously passionate about the subject. He paced the tour masterfully starting us with Palatine Hill and ending with the Colosseum. Lots of humor injected into the tour made it even better. Roman Vacation your groups are small—we had 15, but they never have more than 20 guests—so you are not lost a a crowd like many others. Highly recommended !

Mitch was an excellent tour guide of the coliseum and palatine hill. Informative and an entertaining story-teller… he certainly knows his stuff and brought much of the history to life. He’s accommodating and ensured we were all having an enjoyable time. Roman vacations itself was very organized and communicative. Tour group was kept very reasonably sized (there were 9 of us) and got us into the locations quickly. Highly recommend- great price for the tour!

Our trip to Rome was an opportunity of a lifetime. Our tour of the Colosseum was spectacular, with Roman Vacations tour company. They are located near the Colosseum, easy to find, lovely people to deal with. Fascinating to learn how they raised the animals to the arena floor. The walking tours with Roman Vacations are phenomenal. The guides are so knowledgeable, and take you away from there tourist traps, to see the places that show you the real Italy

We had a tour of the Coliseum and Palatine Hill with Mirca who was an excellent guide. He was highly knowledgeable, humorous, and a very engaging storyeller. The pace of the tour was a bit fast at some parts but this is understandable given the depth of information being explored. Our communication and coordination with the staff at Roman Vacations was smooth and they were very kind and helpful. Would definitely recommend the company and guide.

Completed a tour of the colloseum, pallatine hill, and forum, Rich was very very knowledgeable and willing to answer questions, highly recommend him as a tour guide. Our group was challenged with a baby stroller and Rich helped the couple carry the stroller through lots of stairs. Strongly suggest for those considering taking this tour to have VERY COMFORTABLE walking/running shoes. The paths are mostly uneven surfaces. Very enjoyable tour.

Our tour guide, Benjamin, was excellent and a fountain of knowledge! He made sure that the group was always together while keeping others out of our group and answering others' questions. Our group never really had any questions due to Benjamin being so thorough and well prepared. Definitely be prepared to walk, but also be prepared for absolutely stunning views! Very dishonest company. The tour operators lied to us about providing a refund when they changed the itinerary last minute and even told Viator we threatened them to avoid a refund, which is absolutely ridiculous. The owners blamed us and their team; they have lied the entire process. We DO NOT recommend them to anyone, they operate like scammers. We have taken dozens of tours and have never experienced such poor customer service.

Interesting, thorough, knowledgeable, and fun. These tours are terrific - so far have taken the 3 hour Coliseum & Forum tour, and the 3 hour Jewish Ghetto tours. WOW Learned a lot, helpful guides who were great about questions and making sure all were comfortable and had enough water. Looking forward to more from Roman Vacations. Their whole team is terrific from phone calls to finding them to the tours. Suggest you try them!

Booked a small group tour of the Colosseum, Roman forum and Palatine hill. Found out at the meeting point that we were the only people booked at that time. Our guide Mircea was simply brilliant!! Brian is an extraordinary guide. His Jewish Ghetto tour is no turnkey experience but an intimate journey into the deep roots Jews have in Rome had since ancient times. This was our favorite tour out of all our experiences (we did Vatican & Colosseum as well). Definitely book this trip and get both an emotional perspective of life in the Jewish Ghetto and and a rarely heard perspective on Roman history.

We took this tour last minute and it was such a great value! Mircea jam packed so much information and history in our 2 1/2 hour tour of the Forum and Colosseum. There were only 10 of us and they purposefully keep their groups small. He kept us entertained with his fun sense of humor. Well worth the time instead of going blindly by ourselves. I took the ‘Rome at Night’ w James. Best tour I’ve ever taken & this is my 4th trip to Rome. James is so engaging, smart, fun & interesting. He was constantly telling historical facts but also intriguing facts about people. My friends & family will seek him out when they travel to Rome. Bravo James! I took tour last year with James & took again this year with my son. My son also loved the tour.

We went on a tour of the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine today with this tour group. Barbara was our guide and she was excellent. It was a nice small group of about 18, it started promptly, the audio was clear throughout, her English excellent and her knowledge was great. She brought us through all areas with no fuss and interacted kindly with my hot and tired children. Highly recommend.

It was a magnificent trip with our guide of Roman Vacations! Athuro did our tour around the Colosseum, Palatine and Roman Forum. He was absolutely excellent, so funny and knowledgeable and made the tour so enjoyable. Absolutely worth the money and would love to tour with him again next time I'm in Rome. We booked last minute the day before and everything was handled very well. He even gave us local restaurant suggestions at the end.

What an amazing tour of the Colosseum!! Mirch was such an excellent guide. He was very knowledgeable and also funny. Our group only had 12 people, unlike other guided tours that usually book 20 or more. The 2.5 hours flew by because of how good of a time it was. Hands down the best tour guide I have ever had. Mircea’s depth and breadth of knowledge was unlimited. We toured the Colosseum and Palantine and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and learned a ton. Our tour group was so much smaller than the others we saw. It felt like a friend giving us a tour rather than a mass production.

Guided tour of the colosseum was dull, uninspiring, and boring. I was so disappointed. I wish I had asked for a refund b/c it really wasn't the true five-star guided tour experience I had read about on this provider's site that everyone raved about and expected So.Much.More. She was also very patient and answered all of our questions. After the tour was complete, my daughter said she loved the tour.

Outstanding tour! Our group to the colosseum was small enough (~13) where we could ask questions at every point, it felt very intimate and personalized. We took the Colosseum, Roman forum and palentine hill tour. The tour started in time and they took us in skipping the line. It was easy to navigate inside and our guide gave us a good explanation about the gladiators and the roman history. Overall nice experience.

We took the Colosseum and Palatine hill tour. Tour started on a nearby side street (nice coffee shop on the corner). The tour was so informative and Mircea was able to paint a comprehensive picture of Roman life. Our group had 15 people, highly recommend.

We booked a Colosseum Tour via Roman Vacations (Colosseum.Tours) over a month in advance. They emailed us less than 24 hours before our scheduled tour time telling us that our tour was cancelled given lack of space. We were very disappointed.
