I love love love Rude Boy. I always have and I’ve had some great food and experiences at Rude Boy over the years. However, I went recently and I was disappointed. The food was good - chicken is always tasty and I could eat their mash potato forever. The cocktail menu was lacklustre…I seem to remember there being more options and the ones we ordered were average. Sadly, it was the service that let us down. The waiters seemed to want to move us on rather than let us enjoy ourselves and take our time. The wait staff didn’t have any enthusiasm which I can understand happens in hospitality but it didn’t make us want to stay longer anyway and it came across rude to us at times. They brought the food out and didn’t say which ones were the vegan chickens and which ones weren’t, which made it hard to figure out which was which in the dim room. I was surprised and disappointed as this has not been my experience in the past. Overall, I’ll always come back to Rude Boy, but where’s the old one gone?

Incredible options! The ability to customise and build your own unique blend of flavours and sauces is such a fun way to dine out with friends (especially if you have picky eaters) The burger options and meal deals cater well for just about any occasion and the wonderful "Feed me" choice suits a larger function to a tee. Not only does it allow the staff to pick some favourites, but it allows you to experience new combinations you may have been nervous about! With over 200+ rum options and a huge variety of cocktails to choose from mixed with a very exciting 2 hour happy hour you can unwind your own way! Also refreshing to take friends to Rude boy or just pop in for a drink or two with my partner! Will always recommend!

Disappointing third visit... I visited last night with 4 of my friends to celebrate a 50th birthday. We felt very bad for the poor waiter who was having a very rough first day on the job and this review should not reflect badly in him because he was very sweet and apologetic. However...I was quite embarrassed by the poor service because I had recommended Rude Boy to my friends Our drinks order which was very uncomplicated took around 30 minutes to arrive. We had to ask a couple of times. Our food order which was made around 7.10 did not arrive until 8pm. Again we had to ask a couple of times. Our food did not all come out at the same time and one of my friends had to wait 10 minutes longer for hers... As I say it was quite disappointing and while Rude Boy is usually a great place for food and drinks with friends but Born in this occasion.

Good things: - beverage options - decor and venue feel - location Could be better: - food quality: while not awful, deep fried chicken ribs ad tasteless Coles tomatoes was not a highlight - food presentation: we had the 'ravenous - Feed Me' option on a quiet Thursday night and despite all the different dishes, it was only divided into entree (deep fried chicken ribs) and main (3 main courses in one). - staff attentiveness: we waited to order for 20 minutes without service and then when we were having our main the staff literally came back every 60 seconds to see if we were finished. We then felt very rushed. - value: while we couldn't quite get through everything, the end bill displays each individual item. I don't think there is added benefit to the 'Feed Me' option.

If I could six star this place, I would. Succulent, juicy chicken perfectly coated with a thin, gold and crispy armour of batter made for one perfect bite after another (the "Almost Whole Bird" option is pictured here). We couldn't get enough of it and ordered extra Spicy boneless chicken breast bites with Rum BBQ sauce - an absolute banger of a choice , with the spicy coating and tangy-sweet bbq making for a sweet little dance of flavour. The sides were also spectacular - nicely grilled, buttered corn kernels plus crispy-out and tender in sweet potato fries to round out our fowl-mouthed dinner. Would definitely recommend a try (and many more)!

Hands down the BEST customer service I've experienced - you really feel immediately at home and the wait staff are helpful, knowledgeable, understanding... Everything you could ask for! An outstanding bar as well, the staff more than happy to talk you through different rum and whisky choices! To top it off, the vegan not-chicken option is absolutely to die for, we've been back multiple times to try the difference seasonings and sauces - and we'll definitely be back before we leave Hobart. Well done Rude Boy and 10/10 would absolutely recommend. Worth making a booking as this place is super popular and for good, good reason.

What an incredible experience! We had a dinner reservation, and Rude Boy is such a perfect spot for a chill-out chicken & cocktails! The service, cocktails and food were next level. Probably the best fried chicken & pina colada I have ever tasted. The vibe and atmosphere in the restaurant itself was so cool. To top it off, the standout of the night was the lovely lady who provided genuinely the best service ever! Oh my God! How amazing. The staff were very attentive. Even though it was a chicken place I had the brisket burger which was great and fall apart. I didn't put the price up because I went all out. Brisket burger was $16 no chips. I had a cocktail which was $21. They start from$12 for a dark and stormy. Then I had the run tasting which was amazing but dangerous. 4 15ml shots of emm ranging from 56% to 69.8% so if you do come here don't drive. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in tassie. Went here 2 out of the 3 nights we were in Hobart, once for dinner and drinks, second just for drinks. Concept is great and the chicken was so delicious. Tender, perfectly seasoned and the raspberry sauce was a refreshing change. The drinks are the star here though. Rude Boy has an unreal Tiki menu, a wonderful selection of rum and some weird and wonderful ingredients which are made by members of the team (who are super lovely and friendly). The cocktails are balanced to perfection and served beautifully. We want them in Brisbane ASAP!

Confession; I'm a fried chicken feind! Love this place, always try to sneak a visit if I'm in Hobart This is very high on my list of must visits if I'm in Hobart. I love the simplicity of the great food and epic cocktails. Its a no miss situation. It's got a funky Caribbean feel and I think it pulls it off. Delicious! Awesome! I took what I thought would be a risk at a place that clearly specialised in chicken and got the beef brisket, but it was delicious. The chips were properly crispy, the BBQ sauce was excellent and I even liked the coleslaw, which is not usually something I eat. They also have an extensive and tasty drinks menu, naturally centred around rum, but with lots of variety to choose from. Last but not least, the staff were super friendly and helpful. A great place for a meal, a snack or just a drink or two!

came at 6 without a reservation but they seated us as long as we could finish by 6:45 took quite a bit to get someone’s attention to order and the food took ages. definitely make a reservation if you’re keen to come and prepare to wait for your food. cocktails were nice and decently priced during happy hour. chicken is amazing. got 2 10 oz servings bone-in, salt & pepper + gravy and hot + garlic ranch. both were tender & juicy, superb.

Best experience I’ve had in a bar in Hobart - and best I’ve had anywhere so far. Excellent vibe to the bar, and even more excellent staff. Rowan, one of the part owners, is an amazing bartender. Excellent knowledge of alcohol, mixology, and booze history. Best service I’ve ever received in a bar - professional, friendly, and casual all at once. Best on a quiet night, but even on a busy one, still jaw-dropping. Also, the ambient noise in the toilets is quirky and soothing. In love with this bar and its staff

My partner and I saw the sign “Fried Chicken and Cocktails” and were prepared for a delicious spontaneous dinner. We were grossly disappointed. The large chicken consisted of 4 pieces of chicken all of which were severely undercooked, bleeding undercooked. Service was incredibly slow which I imagine was due to only having two staff members, one to cook and one to serve at the bar. The icing on the cake was that this experience cost us $80. May have been a one off experience, but was very disappointing.

I stumbled on this place, lost, tired and confused... The babe who looked after me was so lovely personable, knowledgeable, passionate, welcoming, helpful... ALL the good things!! Great place! Funky atmosphere, like an industrial chic meets New Orleans cocktail bar. I had a chicken burger, and it was excellent! The dynamite sauce packs a punch, and the pickles are on point. All the ingredients were fresh and delicious in their own right, and put together they were perfect! The booze is pretty good too. I got a Rude Boy larger to start, and a Brooklyn cocktail (their take on a classic Manhattan), both were great. I would definitely go back

Arriving in a Hobart this was our first stop after a few recommendations. After a 15 minute walk in the rain Rude Boy did not disappoint. Probably the best meal we’ve had in the last 3 years. It was 2pm so pretty quiet, we had the boneless salt and pepper deep fried chicken and oh man, so good. Chips were the best we’ve had anywhere and the coleslaw was fresh and crunchy. Yummy cocktails and tap beer. I want to get it for dinner but husband won’t let me ha ha.

Top 3 must eat spots in Hobart. What a shame that we only found out about third on our last day of the trip. I’d give this spot 6 out of 5 if I could. The absolute best fried chicken I have ever had in any restaurant ever and that slaw. The cocktails were spot on and the their smokey take on the classic pina colada was amazing. Over the top theatrics (which I absolutely loved) and such a balance of flavour wow. Kudos to the guys behind the bar. What a spot.

Went on 21st October right after landing from Sydney. Was greeted nicely at first. Everything went well until I raised a complain with the staff regarding the quality of food (burnt chips, undercooked chicken) , staff kept ignoring and quoted “That’s how we serve” . It’s such a disappointment at how unprofessionally the staff handled the complaint. I understand that things can be wrong with food at times but never expected such customer service.

Staff were great. Bar staff very attentive. The food was awesome I had the chicken burger must say it's the best I've had... I also had a non alcoholic drink on tap which was pretty cool. It was some kind of tropical juice or something the guy gave me a taste test of a few because I wasn't sure about how it was going to taste out of the tap. He completely sold me and it was really good. Can't fault great work guys will def be back!!

Legit food at Rude Boy!! I got take away poke bowl and was not disappointed. Dine in would be great I reckon too - had a great vibe. The fried chicken is to die for and the flavours of the entire poke bowl dish made me feel I was on a Tropical island sipping pina cola cocktails. A must if you are visiting Hobart like me. Jealous of the locals who have the chance to eat this food whenever they please.

Really cool venue in midtown offering boneless chicken and drinks. The toilets…wow! My cocktail was fabulous, and the menu layout is great. My chicken was dry and unlike all the boneless chicken I’ve had before. The sauce helped a lot. The corn side was tasty and juicy. Service wasn’t awesome but it did feel as though the team was understaffed for an unexpected busy lunchtime shift…

Rude Boy is amazing. The atmosphere here is extremely welcoming and the staff friendly and happy to explain the joys of rum to the novice (and even the experienced rum traveller). Their rum flights are delicious and varied, and they are happy to make one on the fly to suit your tastes. Oh and the fried chicken is absolutely brilliant too -- and so many options about how you want it!

KFC is forever ruined for me. How can any other chicken possibly compare? I had some old bay chicken and potato and gravy, and I was immediately transported to a heavenly plane of pure bliss and joy. Juicy succulent chicken, full flavoured sides, nothing compares to this. If you go to Hobart and you haven't been to Rude Boy, have you really been to Hobart?

Ordered through ubereats and the serving sizes were so small - $17 for 3 pieces of fried chicken and $17 for about a single burger patties worth of grilled chicken. Hand for comparison - definitely not $34 worth of food. Was delicious though.

Extremely cool vibe, even the bathroom is Instagramable. My chicken had crispy skin and beautifully soft meat, and the bite I had of my partner's burger was amazing. The fries are everything you want from fries - crunchy, fluffy, golden, plentiful. And our drinks were delicious. An awesome dining experience made better by casual cool and helpful staff.

Had a cocktail and a meal here tonight. What a fantastic place to eat and drink! Drink selection is huge! Fried chicken is amazing, best fried chicken I have had in a long time. The coleslaw was very yummy, came with a bit of dill which complimented the dish. 10/10! The atmosphere was pumping, music was really good and suited the decor. Loved it!

Loved this place! The food was so tasty and perfect for the bar's vibe and decor. And the cocktails were a great pairing, being both generous and yum! While it was a busy Friday night, the waitress/hostess had no problems with us flagging her down for a round, and helping us out with our orders. Will definitely return next time we're in Hobart!

Overall a great evening, food was on point and were able to find us a spot on a Saturday evening peak hour without a reservation. Only reason for the 4 star was a little let down with drinks for example paying 40 bucks for a drink and the majority of it being ice was a bit meh. But other then that would definetly eat here again.

Fun place. Good food and cocktails. Only gotcha, Ordered the $40 "feed me" option and just got regular items off the normal menu. Calculated the cost if we had ordered the items individually and we paid $240 (6 people) vs $130 (cost of those 7 items). Definitely eat here but DO NOT GET THE "FEED ME" option.

As a manager in hospitality I have to give the staff on tonight (Friday 2nd December) a 10/10. They were spot on with the greetings, customer service, atmosphere, team work and farewells. They lost the docket to my partners cocktail and were amazing with making it a priority and apologising. Great team!

Came here for a party and had to pay 35 a head, food was alright but the portion sizes were horrible, I barely got a full plate and it cost me 35 bucks. One of our dinner guests also arrived a bit late and they didn't have enough food for him but still made him pay 35. Not a great experience.

I loved the venue - super kitsch and lots of curiosities to catch your eyes as you’re enjoying your meal. We had the feed me menu between two of us and we’re underwhelmed: the boneless chicken was dry and we ended up with two serves of potato mash and chips as the sides - spud overload

Clever food and drinks menu. I like the space, the vibe and the staff are attentive and knowledgeable. I have dined in a and picked up takeaway a few times, with all experiences being excellent. I will continue to bring others here to experience fried chicken and cocktails!

The best gluten free fried chicken burger that I've ever eaten. My hubby loved his random 'feed me' meal. We came here for two days in a row, and would keep coming back if we could. Thank you for accommodating allergies and vegans, we appreciate it! Cheers from Queensland!

One of my favourite places to go in Hobart. Unique drinks selection, amazing VEGAN OPTION (!!) chicken with the best sauces and sides and an incredible theme and atmosphere, just a cool place to be. Staff are fun and friendly and knowledgeable, would reccomend to everyone.

Some pros and cons here. Pros - cool place and great food. Cons - 25 minute wait for drinks and 45 minute wait for food -- on a Tuesday -- is pretty ordinary and doesn't meet expectations.

Sensational evening out! Always hesitant when a restaurant sells fake "chicken" but by-golly! It was delicious! Absolutely recommend! Also, the craft beer selection is spectacular! I thoroughly enjoyed a sour beer made of my favourite plant variety, CACTUS! ❤️

Loved this place! Funky casual bar, lovely staff, but who are you kidding you’re coming for the epic fried chicken!! Love how you can pick your cut, seasoning, sauce! Make sure you get the miso caramel dipping sauce game changer!

Rum bar! Cool tunes, decent food and a great selection of rum! What else could you want? Seriously, this is a fun bar and if you are in the area you should check it out. If you aren't in the area, you should still check it out.

Really solid range of independent beers, helpful and reliable recommendations from staff. The food was great, everything we tried was 10/10. This included vegetarian and real chicken. The Korean BBQ sauce was a highlight.
