This place is excellent. Seriously. Having travelled a fair bit, and having had some experience with food, I've been constantly disappointed with the quality of Indian food available in Calgary, and almost did not want to risk trying another. I've been seeing this place often, and finally decided to drop by and get some dinner. I'm so happy I did. The people are amazing. Super friendly, and they really accommodate for your tastes. The owner recommended just the right quantity and I didn't end up ordering any more than I needed. The portions are fairly good, and one dish and rice was more than enough for my wife and I. The food was spectacular. I got the chicken in coconut gravy, with some rice, and some kebabs. The chicken was spot on, with a really nice, thick, flavorful sauce, with a seriously good amount of chicken (a lot of the other places have like four pieces of chicken or paneer in a tank of sauce). The rice was perfectly cooked, with separate grains, and paired just right with the curry. The flavors were proper home style. We were super satisfied with the meal, and look forward to trying the other food they have to offer. They really deserve the praise and should be your go to place for Indian food in Calgary. As a plus there's plenty of parking, and they're pretty quick with the turnaround. Thank you!

I was very displeased by the poor customer service provided to me at Saffron this evening. I feel uncomfortable returning due to an employee intentionally misleading me to purchase a dish at a higher price by saying that it was actually $3 cheaper. Tricking customers is a dangerous sign of poor business standards and ethics. Specifically, the employee working, a slim woman with short black hair, was unable to clearly provide me with the price of the full size of lamb vindaloo - she said, "it may be $12.00 or $13.00, give or take a dollar, I don't know for sure, the computer does it." It was clearly indicated on their menu that the full size of lamb korma is $14.95, which I clarified with her. She said, "the computer will charge the price." Thinking that the discount was due to a nightly discount (I visited around 7:15, closing time: 8:30), I agreed - trusting the employee. Upon being charged $14.95 + tax, I clarified the stated price of $12-$13, to which the employee restated that the computer determines the price, making no effort to price adjust to stand by her word. Luckily for her, my stomach was about to consume itself, else I would have left the food. It is not a matter of price, but rather the principle of honesty and good business practice which was broken by this Saffron employee. Food was okay. Lamb korma tasted like beef. Their other dishes were 6.5/10 on previous occasions.

I've been a loyal customer over 3 years and truly felt that this food was the best Indian in Calgary. But the restaurant seems to be under new ownership and the food quality and customer service have serverely declined. The butter chicken tastes like Campbell's tomato soup and there wasn't even enough chicken for two adults. Previously there were huge pieces of chicken. The vegetable curry barely had any vegetables besides ridiculously amounts of corn. The potato in the Aloo Gobi was so hard i could barely bit through it. When i ordered mid afternoon on Skip the Dishes the restaurant phoned to let me know they were already out of one item, i don't know how that was possible. And i guess they were not planning to make more over the next 3 hrs. The samosas were terribly oily, so much so that they soaked through the bag and fell out when i lifted it. The woman at the till was rude and only asked for my number as soon as i walked in. It's a shame when new ownership destroys everything that the previous owner worked so hard to built like quality, service and a loyal following. The priceses were always high but the incredible food more that compensated. But now the prices are the same with poorer food quality amd rude service. Needless to say i will not be returning.

I cook Pakistani/Indian food in my house and I have NEVER gotten sick from my cooking and we put a lot of spices and make it extra spicy. I ordered from Saffron last night and just got a butter chicken combo. I have been sick all morning from eating this food last night. No idea why it tasted like they forgot to add any spices and I requested for them to make it spicy but it was not. Their sauce was so bland I had to add salt just to eat. I don't recommend eating here. I also wanted to add that it is funny that the owner thanks the very few people that leave a good review and doesn't bother to address the many customers who are left disappointed. Just goes to show that they do not care whatsoever about retaining customers.

  • Jamie Shymka

I just finished eating the butter chicken and found that it was disgusting. The sauce had a tangy and rancid taste to it, making it impossible to finish. The beef samosa's were tasteless and soggy. They were probably sitting under the heater, along with the rest of the food all day long. The vegetable dish I didn't even bother eating, as it looked like food poisoning waiting to happen. I've had my fair share of good Indian during my lifetime but you won't find it in NW Calgary. I wouldn't recommend coming here, its overpriced and pretty gross. You're better saving your money and making curry at home. The only reason it has one star is because the owner is a nice guy.

We got the dinner for 2, and it was so filling and delicious! The portion size was perfect, and the costs are absolutely reasonable! The service was very friendly! We got the 2 chicken samosa, butter chicken Saag Paneer, Rotis, and Rice. Strongly recommend this nice small family owned take out restaurant.

Just received my Skip the Dished order and I am very disappointed. The Butter Chicken and Chicken Korma are watered down to a watery soup like they ran out of sauce, but instead of making more, they just added water to match the rest of the orders for the night. To add, there is minimal chicken in the butter chicken so it’s just like watered sauce. Tastes like actual tomato soup! $60 for three watered down dishes that are half full is not okay. My wife has been there before and she liked the food, so this was very disappointing. never going back. We called an said the food was sub par and and watered down and they said it’s just like that.

I visited Saffron on Thursday 23 Sept, 2021. Now under new ownership. Picked up Lamb curry, Oka (Bhindi Baji) , naan and basmati rice. I have to compliment the chef. ( I would like to take cooking lessons ! Or learn some secrets.... my lamb curry is good, but not as yummy. ) The food was spiced and flavored exquisitely, absolutely delicious. YUM. The lamb curry was very similar to what my Mom makes. A true taste of home. Highly recommended to anyone wanting to have some authentic home style cooking. The new owners are wonderful. Keep up the good work and I will return often, and support your small business.

Had the dinner for 2 plus added a couple extra samosas. The folks running this place were super friendly , pleasant and informative. The food is good portioned and the taste is beyond excellent!!! A plethora of flavors, we will definitely be returning. The man at the counter even gave us free pop while waiting. He offered us one each but the wife and I just shared one while wait. Which did not take long. Definitely 5 stars, Definitely going to return. Thank you so much for the pleasant interaction and of course thank you so much for a wonderful meal.

First time eating food from here. Great little place. Very friendly owners. I ordered for two people, two different dishes and each serving was more than enough for at least two meals. They gave me two complimentary samosas (veg & beef) to try as well and my kids enjoyed them. Will definitely be coming here again.

Saffon is back in good hands! I've been a customer at Saffron since the beginning, enjoying their wonderful food. But when Rose retired and the place was sold, the quality went downhill, to say the least. But that is in the past now. Saffron has new owners again, and the quality is back. In fact, I think it might be a bit better than Rose's cooking! I ordered a combo #4 and some samosas. The rice was fragrant, the curries flavorful and nicely spiced, and our samosas were crisp and tasty. I'm so pleased to that Saffron is back in good hands! We'll be back for more.

  • Shrikant Arora

I really dont want to sound rude but was really disapointed with the quality of food, ordered combo#3, everything tastes like from pre made package food from a supermarket, I could taste preservatives all over the food. Roti was not made fresh it was from premade package, paneer spinach had only 1 small peice of paneer with no taste, Dal was uncooked I even almost hurt my teeth, rice was half cooked, tamarind chutney was just tamarind diluted in warm water taste yukk. If my review hurts someones feelings my apologies just wanted to provide honest feedback.

Husband and I grabbed the "dinner for 2" option as a quick lunch. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and the food was absolutely delicious! The food was so fresh and rich in flavours! And amount of food was perfect for the two of us. Will definitely be going back!

This is one of the best Indian takeout restaurants I've been to. Food is fresh made daily. The staff are one family who pitch in to do everything. I have never had a mediocre dish here. This establishment chooses premium spices and fresh ingredients to make a selection of their dishes daily as to promote low waste and freshness. Give them a try and you'll never look elsewhere. The prices are the lower than any of their competitors in the area. To my taste the food quality is also much better.

  • Caroline Gartner

This has been our go-to for Indian takeout for about 10 years, and we were so disappointed to realize it is under new ownership and not even close to the previous quality. The food was always so consistent and flavourful, and the owners and family that worked there were so welcoming and helpful. The taste of the food is completely different and so bland, the okra and the butter chicken both tasted like tomato soup. We won’t be returning, very sad to see how this place has gone downhill.

  • Alison Knoepfli

I complained about the quality of the chicken in the butter chicken. It was rubbery. It was like eating prefab chicken. The owner then tried it and agreed. Then promised me free butter chicken when I returned. It was so bad I couldn't eat butter chicken for about a year. Then I returned she forgot, no big deal. I ordered the butter chicken and it was just bad as before. I haven't been back and I haven't had buttered chicken since. This place turned me off of one of my favorite foods.

  • Stephanie Cheng

I was a bit worried after seeing the reviews. I was ordering on skip the dishes after seeing the attractive two person meal $26 with butter chicken, naan, vegetarian side dish, and samosa. The butter chicken lacks flavour, but it's not the worst I've had (although doctoring the Costco butter chicken at home is better). The saag paneer (spinach dish) was a bit better than the butter chicken, but the spinach in there was so lacking it really didn't seem like a spinach dish.

Good food just like the home made kind. The mince and green pea curry is the greatest. Only thing the egg plant curry had more potatoes in it than egg plant. Please have only egg eggplant in the egg plant curry and no potatoes. Other than that no issues great service friendly people and good food. Keep up the good food.

Our family tried Saffron for the first time tonight and loved it. We have a different local Indian restaurant that we love, but it was closed, so we tried saffron. The portions were very good and everything was very flavorful. We ordered some dishes extra spicy and they were hot & excellent as well. We had 8 different dishes and enjoyed them all! Thumbs up from family of 5 with big eating young adult men!!!

  • A Shams

Worst Indian food we’ve ever tasted. Butter chicken was watery and a huge disappointment, Palak was slimy, naan was burnt, and aloo gobi was missing the cauliflower heads. We called the owner to give him a chance to make things right but he insisted his food has always been “like this” and that his restaurant offers “Canadian” Indian food. One star is generous for the quality and we will never go back.

  • Aann Abraham

I tried this restaurant for the first time. My mistake not read the reviews before. Dont try this restaurant. Extremely expensive . Rice 150 gms and curry 231 gms. This restaurant is not worth for the price and these food were not tasty. You can get a buffet lunch with 14 to 15 dollars. Then why should we try 150 gms food for this amount. Good if you are dieting and has lots of money to give away!!

  • Chris Calon

You won't find friendlier staff anywhere. This family restaurant has a limited daily special-type menu, but you can always find delicious take-out. We visit often and are always surprised to find it inexpensive and filling! You know the food is fresh too as the Indian Grocery store right next to the restaurant is owned by the grandparents. Love it! Try the Butter chicken!

  • M. Hambone

Great little place. Love the dinner for two special. Could eat the butter chicken from there everyday. If you can, I would suggest you phone ahead and place your order. It can get busy in there and you may end up waiting for awhile if you just walk in. This little strip mall actually has several good little restaurants and you should check them all out.

  • Nancy Nancy

The food is basically tasteless. They are using sobeys premade naans as rotis and that too was stale and tasted like it’s expired. The rice kheer had a fungi on it and smelled so bad. The mixed veg was half good but so not worth it for the price they’re charging. Would never recommend this place to anyone. This was my first and last time.

Saffron is our favourite takeout place for Indian dishes. The vegetable samosas are the best we’ve ever found. Their other dishes we’ve tried have been excellent and very tasty. The owners are very nice too. Highly recommend Saffron.

Just picked up an order of Fishpakora and guess what I got 8 pcs of fish fingers deep fried in rancid dirty oil also ordered chicken dish with 2 small naan that was hard for 32.00 . This restaurant owners need to close it down before someone gets sick . I think it’s time to call the Health Dept to inspect this take out restaurant.

It is clear that this establishment is under new ownership. This used to be a favourite within our circle of friends and after ordering this evening, I can say with confidence that this was the most disappointing Indian we’ve ever had. The portions are ridiculously small, the food is bland. We will never order here again.

  • Stephen Wu

I apologize as I really wanted to like this place because I love Indian food but the butter chicken was very watery. The potatoes, rice was too hard and many other issues. I'm willing to change my opinion if it becomes better later as there are not other indian restaurants close by. The customer service was excellent.

  • Matthew Dunlap

Biked here for take-out. Was able to get a vegan-friendly chickpea dish. The woman (owner?) working there was extremely kind, even if the service was a tad slow. Oh, and the food was EXCELLENT! Ordering there again tonight. Update: Ordered again tonight for pick-up. Was ready really fast, and was amazing again!

  • Alfie D

2 stars because my body can digest it. Other then that it's flavourless. Being Indian myself I have to warn that the chicken curry was bland and they only used white meat. I had to flavour it myself. The okra was strong in lemony taste, just bland and lemony. Very disappointed and wasted my money. Beware.

OMG!that's the second best Indian food I have tried in Calgary. I got the dinner for two people combo, it was really cheap and a lot of food is provided. I had butter chicken and mixed vege they tasted amazing! I was so amazed by the price too! Strongly recommend, I'll go there again and again for sure.

  • Miles Waghray

I think this place doesn't get the credit it deserves. I have almost always had a good experience here, the food is good. While it might not be the most traditional Indian dishes, they seem to know the local tastes. It is always a pleasure to pick up saffron when I am in Calgary.

  • Samira IBRHM

Im sitting here wondering if I accidentally ordered a Childrens meal. I literally have to go get more food because I got half a cup of rice and half a cup of beef vindaloo. Ive attached a photo for comparison to my 30ml foundation bottle. This is a sick joke right?

  • Pam Zylik

A true gem and I'm lucky to live close by. Just wish I had tried this place out earlier. Service is great, very friendly and quick. Never had fresher naan anywhere else! The food was fantastic. This is my go-to place for Indian food now. Definitely check them out!

Amazing little restaurant; I'm in love with the butter chicken and veggie samosas. Perfect place to stop for dinner on the way home, very good prices and good portions. The owelnerz and staff are so friendly and they remember me when I visit . …

Love love love this little gem. Rose (the owner/main cook) is the sweetest woman you will ever meet. The food is amazing. This is my go to place when I need some home cooked food made by someone else. My favorites are the butter and coconut chicken.

  • Rob Vestrum

The new owners have raised the standards for Indian takeaway. Our son and daughter-in-law brought over a full complement of dishes to share with the rest of the family. The sauces were thick and the meats tender. Lovely balance of spices in

  • Vatsala Sharma

Not worth! Please don't try it. Ordered dinner for two and what came in was huge disappointment. The only thing worth eating were the plain rice. Apart from that they sell garbage for loads of bucks. Not even worth of giving one star.

  • Mark Janzen

I should have read reviews before ordering. Very salty and watered down sauce on my order. Pretty high price for this low quality level of food too. I did get a regular sized portion compared to the smaller size others have posted.

  • Chris Oleynick

One of my favourite places for Indian takeout food. Call ahead because they have different curries each day but all the ones I've tried have been delicious. Some of the creamiest butter chicken I've ever had. Portions are good.

  • Andrew Sullivan

Update: New ownership, and some of the dishes have been improved. I recommend you call ahead or order online, as they have changed to preparing food once ordered, so it can be 20 to 30 minutes foe them to prepare.

  • Garry Slater

I had a dinner for two combo, the worse take out experience of my life. Close to $30 for like three doggy bag boxes to go. So small & the food wasn't good at all. There are way better Indian places in the city.

  • Oliver M

This is my go to place for Indian food, always fresh and well made. Can't say enough good things about the food here. The owner is amazing and friendly to talk to. You know she puts her heart into her cooking.

  • Michael Hwozdecki

This place went way downhill. Used to be really good about a year ago. Now the chicken in the curry is dried out, the Naan isn't made fresh, and the samosa's were lukewarm. Terrible! Don't waste your money.

Good food that cater to people from here. The food is good in that everyone can have it. Can't be called authentic as the spice levels are turned down a lot.

Best Indian food in Calgary! Fresh, traditional and served by the nicest people. Try the Okra Masala, you will never look at vegetables the same! Yum yum
