This is one of the best neighborhood hardware stores in San Diego. They are much larger than most neighborhood hardware stores probably the size of a small Home Depot. The pricing is very reasonable and the service is exceptional. Even though I live close to and Ash and a Home Depot. I always come to this store first. They almost always have what I need and I can get in and out in less than half the time of the Home Depot. This particular building has been a hardware store on and off ever since I first moved to San Diego back in the seventies. It is so nice to have a neighborhood hardware store that provides almost everything I need for repairs and projects around the house.
I walked into the store after being at Home depot and not finding what I need. There were 3 people standing at the register talking. One girl greets me with "hi, how are you?" I greeted her back and kept walking. Quite frankly, in a brand new hardware store the greeting should be more of, "Hello, Welcome to San Carlos Hardware, is there anything I can help you find?" After walking the whole store looking for what I was looking for. I spent 10 minutes there and walked out without even being recognized. The clerks still chatting away at the counter. Big disappointment to me being that this is a new store in a neighborhood I have lived in 43 years.
I adore the dedication and courtesy these employees show. They not only help you find what you are looking for, they also like to make sure you have any items for preparation or finishing items you may need for the project you are working. The Supervisors are amazing and always have been genuine in providing you any service you need. I would rather have a great neighborhood hardware store than a huge warehouse of everything that are lacking in customer relations or just service period. I highly recommend that you to visit San Carlos Hardware the next time you need anything.
Im all for a small-town store vibe, and like to support small businesses, but I have never had a good experience here. The employees are very condescending towards me probably because I am a young woman. I tried to purchase a bag of dirt for my sister so that she could plant center pieces and the cashier was very hostile towards me and ID'ed me for some reason. He also did not assist me in lifting or carrying the large bag of dirt and waited until I was halfway out of the store, struggling to carry the bag of dirt, to tell me I had forgotten to take back my debit card.
Came to to buy a piece a wood and needed someone to cut it for me, so I asked the cashier politely if she could have someone cut it for me. She asked an employee named John to assist me and he immediately had an attitude a said there was not enough staff to cut it. I witnessed 5 different employees at the time and only a few customers in the store. John was lazy and didn’t want to cut it, I am a paying customer who was buying other items in the store as well. I will not me returning to this store. Unfortunately this is why businesses like this don’t last.
Friendly, knowledgeable staff that you'll be on a first name basis with after a few visits. It's a small, local hardware store so you won't find a huge selection, just most of the stuff you actually need to fix or complete a project. Great selection of fasteners. Garden center sells native plants and you can get worm castings. Store is always neat, clean and organized. Customers are always greeted right away and I've always received help when I needed it. They do a good job at cutting keys and are really good at screen repair.
This is my favorite store in town. I am barely through the door before someone asks if I need assistance, and they don't just find what I need; they help me troubleshoot my projects with ideas and expertise. True, they don't have the inventory of a Home Depot, but I can usually get whatever I need and the atmosphere is worth the occasional disappointment. Everyone there is friendly and relaxed. They even offer treats to my dog!
Helpful, friendly staff, looking to help you. A well-put together store. Good selection and reasonable prices, with sale items, too. They had my brand- specific pressure cooker part. Such a nice experience, I bought a few other items I'll need later on. I think it is a misconception 'big box stores' offer better prices than small stores like this. I like supporting small business, especially good ones!
The best costumer service I've had in years. Walked in and was approached by an employee, they asked if they could help me, and they did! They gave me a discount for buying more than one of the same item, the discount was 20%! With the discount the item was cheaper than the cheapest harbor freight item. Great selection, quality products. I'm coming back here for sure!
I think I found the one American hardware store that doesn't offer a military discount. The cashier was awfully unpleasant too. The floor staff was helpful, on the other hand. But Home Depot is less than ten minutes away(east or west) and they are better in every measure, price, customer service, and the company is military friendly. I do not recommend this place.
I use to shop there as it is close to my home, but not any longer. There prices are just too high now, they drop items that are needed for homes in this area because of general age of the residences and there over all stock has become very limited. I am now going to Home Depot, they are father away but have everything I need and thier prices are reasonable.
High quality, friendly local hardware store. I went in here for some pressure treated 2x4s and was impressed by how straight they were. HD and Lowes everything is always soaking wet, twisted, and bowed. They have a great bolt bin where you can just get 2 or 3 of a certain size. Count on being asked if you need help finding something.
Beware!!! If you purchase anything and use your debit card - San Carlos Hardware will NOT give you cash if you return it. Matt the store Manager says its the policy of the company to return it to your card. It takes several days before the money returns to your card (approx 4 to 5 days) .... NOT A GOOD POLICY ! Won't see me again.
This my local store and I go often to try and support a locally-family owned business. The employees are very nice, but this is less of a hardware store and more of a basic need store. I will need to go to the big stores for bigger projects but, I will be back if I need a paint brush, duct tape, and gardening supplies.
Staff is very helpful and friendly. Most of the time you are greeted at the door and if you have questions they will walk you right to what you are looking for. I like being able to get just a couple fasteners from their bulk drawers instead of having to buy a box of 20 at a time.
Incredibly helpful team without being stalkers. Every time I need something they take me to the aisle, ask questions to help narrow down and give a recommendation. This is not a super store so selection can be limited but I love supporting local and these guys rock!
I often run up here in the middle of a project and they always seem to have that special screw, part or tool that I need to complete it. Prices are reasonable and the staff is always attentive and knowledgable. Plus the fresh popcorn is a nice touch.
Overpriced, but quicker than going to Home Depot. Staff is helpful however some of them aren't really knowledgeable and will get you the wrong part. Beware and double check them, I was doing plumbing and half the time they sold me the wrong part!
This is generally a pretty good store, and I like it a lot. My problem comes in with the key making. On several occasions I’ve had keys made that didn’t work, and I had to return them and have them made again. Most recently I had a key made
My go to hardware store mostly because it's the closest. It looks just like an Ace Hardware. Staff are friendly and helpful. They know where the stuff is when I describe it to them and I don't know the name.
Place is limited and a tad more than the big stores but not out of the ball park like some smaller stores. Also, only place nearby that actually cuts (copy) keys appropriately for a really good price.
My hometown favorite store! Whatever you need, you will find it there and there's always a so helpful staff person waiting to help. Love this place. I'd be so happy if it was closer to my house.
Great place with very helpful and friendly staff! Very good selection of items you would expect to find in a hardware store. Competitive prices, much easier to shop here than at a big box store.
A great hardware store. Probably have what you need. They had a sale on a wheelbarrow, but were out. So Matt went out of his way and transferred one from a sister store for me. Great service!
A great neighborhood hardware store. They typically have a greater range of parts than do the big box stores but with limited quantity. No appliances or cabinets and a small garden center
Wonderful employees with life experience that they love to share. Anyone I’ve worked with at SCH has been knowledgeable and willing to provide ideas/alternative solutions if I need help.
A real neighborhood hardware store. Doesn't carry everything that the big box stores carry but has unsurpassed customer service. Can find most things homeowners need. Great place.
Wonderful helpful staff, this store is the Nordstrom's of hardware without the high price. I am old , disabled and deaf the staff are wonderful to me. Help me with advise etc.
Very helpful employees at this store. They great you at the door and if you need help, they are always willing to assist. They are knowledgeable about the products they sell.
The long time employees are always extremely friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The newer, younger ones have room for growth in all three aspects but that is understandable
This place is the BEST! The staff is always super friendly, nice, and helpful. They have a great selection of stuff. Go here before going to one of the larger chain" stores.
Have alittle of everything. Customer service is A1, always very helpful and willing to answer questions. Best hardware store I've been in, and I've been in alot!
Very friendly service. Helped us find what we needed quickly. But somewhat hot...airflow isn't great and no AC. Otherwise has everything you need with a smile.
So good to have it close by. It got all the essentials I need for a quick DIY job at home. Staff was very friendly and quick to help with advice. Thank you!
Nice store.. well stocked with friendly and knowledgeable staff. I was in and out quickly. This is a great little neighborhood hardware store ..
Great local spot. Had what I needed and more... hard to say no to hardware store goodies. Definitely my neighborhood go to when needing parts!
Very friendly staff and a nice place for all basic home hardware. This place has a great selection of houseplants for very reasonable prices.
All the staff are extremely nice and helpful. Each time I’ve been it was in and out because the staff directed me to exactly what I needed.
Great hardware store if you want that personal service unlike the big box stores. Also like that they supply California Native plants.
Such a great local hardware and home improvement store. Super nice people and so much more convenient than one of the mega stores.
Love this place. They have products that I have not found other places. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
Staff are very knowledgeable, selection is surprisingly extensive and location is convenient. Ace is the place!
Best selection and best customer service any where around. Beats Lowes and Home Depot every day of the week.
Everytime i come in to San Carlos hardware I have a good experience ..great customer service, very friendly
Great place if you're in a bind. Extensive screw selection. Staff is experienced, friendly and helpful!
Very thankful to have this place in the neighborhood! Staff is always helpful in locating what I need.
Always so helpful and found all the random items I needed from toilet seat, glue, rope, to rat poison
Knowledgeable staff who are always willing to help and they probably have whatever tool you need
Easy, to get in and out. Think of a small store before a big box store to help the little guy.
Super friendly and helpful staff. They always greet you at the door and ask if they can help.
I love this small town hardware store. Much better service then H Depot. Great selection.
This place has had things I never thought they would. It's a great store for the area.
Terrible customer service here. Many Items are overpriced also. Just a bad experience.
Knowledgeable personnel. Quick, save by not having to drive miles to a big box store.
All the employees are so friendly and helpful and the store has the best selections.
Great store because of the great people there. They pretty much are my first go to.
Amazingly helpful people!! I would go out of my way to go to this hardware store.
Love San Carlos Hardware. Great deals on good variety of cacti and succulents.
Helpful staff. I always find what I need. Paint, key copying, plant nursery.
Way better then home depot..the employees don't hide from u if u need help
