Checked out Sister Mary Louise the other day after taking kiddos to Healesville Sanctuary. I quite like the menu, it is quite unique and the brunch items we tried were yum. I would definitely recommend the cassoulet and the egg in the brioche, kiddos even asked me to make it in the future! I wasn’t too sure about French toast though- why is it so white?! But it wasn’t too bad, not amazing though. What I am not happy about was the service. While they are friendly enough, they were not very attentive. We were sitting in the corner so they just seemed to have forgotten us when it comes to placing order, getting our bottle of water refilled etc. when I ask for plates so we can share food they gave us one , they gave our food to the other table and tbh if I was to reallllllyyyyy nitpick, when they serve us the French toast, a dessert, they could have asked whether we wanted fresh plates and cutlery so we don’t mix the savoury food w the sweet.

Disappointing, dish I chose was supposed to be a terrine it was actual pulled ham hock wrapped in some sort of leaf *(not a terrine at all)very salty, way to much hollandaise sauce covering two poached eggs so totally overtook any subtle flavours if they were there friends I was with had better luck with their meals. Only one choice of white wine a very ordinary Chardonnay $12 per glass (local I think) Dessert I ordered a Portuguese tart and my friend a lemon tart both were very, very small and looked dry. We asked for them to be warmed slightly my friend was told they didn't have the capacity to do that and took the items back although we didn't realise until we asked where the tarts were. The atmosphere of the restaurants is very clean , light and bright a bit noisy and the staff were pleasant. We did have to ask for cutlery and also condiments. I don't know how long they have been open possibly teething problems.

Didn’t even get to eat/drink here. From the minute I walked in with my 15 month old little girl to have a special brekkie date for just us, we were looked at with absolute contempt. Walked in to find that there is no longer a play area for little ones, so if that’s the reason why you’re going, don’t bother. Then asked to substitute almond milk for my daughters scrambled eggs as she has a dairy allergy and was told rudely and flat out “they won’t do that”. They had two other tables of people so not even busy and you’re telling me you can’t swap a milk out? I then said well we’ll have to go then, and she said “alright”, aggressively scooped up the menus and walked off. I hope your business fails with service and attitudes like that. Absolutely appalling. Maybe look at hiring staff who don’t have such an apparent hatred for others! 0/10, way to ruin a special morning for us.

We Came in for Mother’s Day, understandably we knew it would be busy but Glad we could grab a lovely table outside. The young girl who served us was absolutely lovely and friendly. Although when ordering our breaky we were told by the manager we couldn’t change to scrambled eggs on our Benny because they were to busy. instead we had to order the same meal off the menu as seperate items (scrambled eggs, bacon, hollandaise and a hash brown). When I approached the manager she was very abrupt and rude towards me. I don’t really see the difference in the meals except for a few dollars in price and I also think it’s a lot harder to cook a few poached eggs than whip up a bowl of scrambled! Little bit disappointed as a local that the manager was so rude to me, and it doesn’t make me want to return.

I heard people say this is the best coffee in town, and they were right! Very consistent and delicious coffee. I’ve tried this egg dish which I forgot the name of, it was a bit overpriced so definitely won’t get it again. The taste was good though, so if you have money go ahead. Edit: In my recent visit, I tried the avo on toast which was quite nice, I’d rate it a 4/5, and my partner was satisfied with the hash browns dish too (he rates it 4/5). The seasoning and sauce was great so the dishes weren’t missing anything. The portions are good, but the dishes should be $20 max., I wouldn’t value them anything above that. Again, the price is what marks up the rating down, perhaps the waiting time too (20 minutes for both coffee & food) otherwise it’s a great environment and good food.

Lovely cafe outside the hustle bustle of Healesville. The friendly faces as I walked in set the atmosphere for a really pleasant experience. The food was lovely though the menu lacked options for wheat free. An additional salad on the menu would be great. Or suggestions for gluten free would have been appreciated. It was a beautiful light, bright cafe with high ceilings and plenty off parking. The attentive staff were friendly and chill. I think if it was full the sound might be overwhelming and some artwork or hanging curtains would be beneficial to dampen the noise. I recommend.

Diners are invited to mention any dietary restrictions they have. I let them know I needed gluten free food with no onion or garlic. After checking with the kitchen, I was told they could only do a BLT because “pretty much everything has onion or garlic in it.” I got a GF English muffin that had a couple of pieces of lettuce, a couple of pieces of tomato, three small pieces of bacon, and some tomato sauce. We had to ask for a breakdown of the bill, it wasn’t offered to us initially, and for that I got charged $24.00 That’s the same price as the burger with chips that my son had. His meal was twice the size. When I asked about it, I was just told, “well gluten free does cost extra” I’ll never go back there.

This place has almost everything going for it. Beautiful, light filled space. Clean lines. Friendly, attentive service. A delicious looking menu full of cosy, comfort food triggers like potato hash and ham hock. We were a little disappointed by the food that came out. We ordered the Sister Benedict and the Potato Hash. The hash was served in a broth and with Asian mushrooms, pea sprouts and coriander. This felt surprising because neither the broth nor the coriander were mentioned in the menu. I’m personally not a fan of Asian mushrooms at breakfast but that could be personal taste. The crunchiness of the hash was spoiled by the broth (which was very tasty). I guess the issue is that each element was lovely, just all kind of wrong together at breakfast. This new cafe could quite possibly be brilliant with a few menu tweaks.

  • Michael Case

On the main road but away from the town centre. Parking along side street. Can sit inside or out. Some tables close together inside. Breakfast and lunch menu. We both had the BLT. One with a gluten free bun and the other with chips. Very tasty and filling. Quick service and reasonable prices.

  • I Ate My Crusts

In the words of Samuel L. Jackson …. “Goddam, Jimmie. This is some serious gourmet sh*t.” Forgive me Father, for I have sinned. I finished my @silvacoffee “magic” before the @sistermarylouise service began. My penance was a ‘heavenly’ crushed peas & avocado on sourdough with goats curd, poached egg, yuzu & vineleaf salt. The spring asparagus & prosciutto on sourdough with a poached egg, miso butter & artichoke chips (!) tasted sinfully divine as well. Iconic @sonsiestudios artwork blessed our entry ✝️✝️✝️ Truly a foodie’s ‘religious’ pilgrimage stop in #healesville #sistermarylouise #yarravalley #divinefood

  • The Aussie Tradie Dan the Man

I recently visited Sister Mary Louise Cafe in Healesville, and it was excellent! The service was friendly and attentive, and the food was delicious - I particularly enjoyed the smashed avocado on sourdough! The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, and the coffee was made to perfection. I highly recommend the cafe - it's definitely worth a visit if you're ever in Healesville!

The cakes we tried were exceptionally brilliant. I had the walnut and fig tart. The pastry was delectable, moist and crumbly enough. Extremely satisfying. My friend had the orange cake thing and was equally overjoyed at the quality and love in the cake. The pastry chef is definetly worth their weight in gold. It was a wet rainy cold morning. If only the wood fire had been going it would have had the perfect ambiance.

Great options for kids meals that are good portions. Complete with play area out the back, with a cubby house and so many toys that your kids will never get bored.

  • Kristin Woods

2 stars for service staff were friendly. Food was not what I expected I order potato hash with a poached egg which was really expensive and it came out and it was a strange Asian broth with Asian veg and Asian mushrooms with a homemade potato slab the size of my finger with 1 poached egg (which I had to pay $3 extra for) absolutley wild Maybe it might of been nicer with some dumplings but what i expect for a breakfast. Sorry guys i was really wanting to give a better review but for me it just wasn't it!

  • Moose Ko

Very disappointed ☹️. The atmosphere of the cafe is very nice, the menu is noticeably expensive, which is fine if the food is great. Unfortunately it was average, I paid $6 for bacon as a side, the was no bacon, just the fat streaky bits and they where small… very small. Supposedly they are weight measured . Anyway we will not be returning, much better cafes in Healesville that do a much better feed for considerably less.

Had the eggs Benedict! Was very delicious, the hollandaise was creamy and tangy, very smooth. I got the ice coffee, I do wish it was served with ice as well, just had ice cream. But the coffee was delicious and they have the good oat milk but the alternative dairy brand! Extra points for that

Stunning!!! Everything about this cafe is Convenient parking, friendly staff, and beautiful space for a bright, airy breakfast. Annnnd the coffee..! Wow. My flat white almost brought me to my knees. I didn’t expect such a delicious shot of espresso from a small town cafe. Plus, their food menu is simple, well-curated, and chalked full of local and global inspiration. This would be my #1 if I lived locally.

When it was supposed to be closing, staff welcomed us and opened their doors - plus 5 for service, courtesy and friendliness. Then I had my chai latte - one of the best ever - plus 5 for the beverage. Had a croissant and it was pretty good - plus 5. Can I put 15 stars then? Don’t forget to visit this cafe in this side of town. Even if I’m not from that side of town, I wouldn’t mind driving here to enjoy my peace and lovely chai latte.

We have been here twice now and its a good choice with yummy food and very good coffee. Very dog friendly outdoor area too. Minor half star penalty would apply if I could for the dirty toilet floor and the grubby rear path used for access to the doggy yard. Full marks tho for the freeby feminine sanitary products for ladies in the loos.

Absolute gem of a Cafe! Food was amazing (try the omelette!) and the staff were a lot of fun, super friendly and helpful! The building itself gives a cheeky nod to a church, with plenty of religious statues and Christian themed menu items. Has a lovely big fireplace at one end making for a cosy brunch spot on a wintery "spring" day!

Randomly popped in here for brunch and so lucky we did, the food was fantastic (GF options a plenty) great outdoor seating with a cute cubby house (complete with toys) for the kids to entertain while we had delicious meals and tasty coffees (good kid meals too), service was great, the building and story behind the name is so interesting, can you see what I am getting at? its a good place, why are you still reading this? you should be at Sister May Louise!

  • Steve Haynes

Great venue in an old remodelled church. Bright, clean line's, nice atmosphere accept music was a little loud, mostly because of the live environment. Service was quick, staff very friendly and meals arrived in a timely manner. Coffee and juice were great Egg's Benedict were done to perfection and the mix of salad was very refreshing. Price was as you would expect for the Yarra Valley

This cafe has lovely food and coffee, but most importantly the owners and their team are amazing! They're so lovely and accommodating- we went there yesterday with my son for his 3rd birthday with a couple of our friends, and the team were so great! It means so much to be able to finally get out of the house and enjoy great food and coffee and be able to bring the kids and still feel welcome. Thank you, keep up the great work!

Such a good vibe at this cafe! The coffee and food are always amazing and the service is always great! I got the prawn toast for breakfast the other day and it seriously was one of the tastiest breakfast’s ever! Do yourself a favour and grab one of their doughnuts or Portuguese tarts to go with your coffee, you won’t regret it!

Customer service was lacking significantly. Grumpy staff. Felt like we were putting them out. Was reminded several times for no reason that they do not split the bill. Booked days in advance, we’re only there for short time, they were cleaning around us as we were leaving because they wanted the table. Cafe was not close to full.

Love this place! Great staff, food, chai and coffee. Smidge noisy inside if you’re sensitive to acoustics

Excellent food and friendly staff. Have dined in and orders take away and both meals were great.
