We have brought our dog in because he has been vomiting and having diarrhea for a few days along with lethargy. Our dog walker told us he ate some deer poop in the dog park, so we thought it could be the reason that he got sick. Our dog is on a special diet (raw diet), and from the moment that was mentioned it became the sole focus of the visit, almost made out that we are irresponsible owners. We were told to get poop samples which would have cost us 200$ and were told won’t even prove anything, and then that it was a food allergy. They were so focused on the fact our dog eats raw food (which he has done for years now) that they didn’t even consider a stomach infection, it was mentioned but passed over because “most likely it’s the food”. Our boy came home and threw up twice that night, we decided we need a second opinion. We were heading to Montreal for the weekend and nearly cancelled our plans until we found that the vet we used to use was open on Good Friday, so we drove to Montreal and got a proper diagnosis and antibiotics for our poor pup and he was almost right as rain the next day. The vet in Montréal didn’t even ask about food or diet! He immediately realized that poop carries all sorts of nasties. It’s no secret that the veterinary practice does not support raw diets but they are so blinded by their prejudice that they ignored what the actual problem was. We didn’t appreciate the service, our dog didn’t even get treatment and we paid $100 for nothing.
WARNING !!!!!!!! - We have been taking our dog to this Clinic for many years. My wife recently brought our dog for some regular procedures and The Doctor, was more concerned with UP SELLING, then performing the procedures we had made the appointment for. My wife was so put off from the HIGH PRESSURE SALES APPROACH, she called me crying on the phone. The Clinic ended up not performing all of the procedures we had booked the dog in for. To be fair to the Dr., I called back and asked to have the Dr. return my call, so I could get to the bottom of the issue, to my surprise, I got the same HIGH PRESSURE $ALE$ PITCH. The Dr. did apologize for missing the procedure, and offered to do the procedure at no charge. I asked the Dr. to walk me through everything, she jumped right back into the SALES PITCH. We have since taken our dog to the another local clinic, who performed to original procedure we had booked in for. LADY, you should have been a USED CAR SALESMAN. My advice to you..... Start listening to your customers.......Stop SELLING.
After several consultations to enhance our kitten’s quality of life, we encountered a concerning situation regarding his dental health. Despite being only 8 months old, our initial vet from SSAC advised immediate referral to a specialist for a complete tooth extraction, a procedure we feared would significantly diminish his well-being. Adhering to this advice, we scheduled the surgery. However, an unrelated emergency visit to the VCA in Carling led to a critical revelation. Upon discussing his dental issues, the VCA veterinarian starkly opposed the extraction, stating, “He’s too young, and removing his teeth at this age would be detrimental to his quality of life. Many vets opt for this as an easy, low-effort solution.” This contradictory guidance from a clinic that prides itself on small animal care deeply concerns us. We urge pet owners to diligently research and seek multiple opinions. Based on this experience, we’ve decided not to return to SSAC.
We have been clients here for about 10 years now, and my parents before me for the last 20 years or more. Recently, in the early days of Covid lockdown, our Westie became quite ill, and Dr. Gallagher went above and beyond for us - spending considerable amounts of time on the phone with me discussing her condition, possible options and test results. When I said I couldn't afford much testing, she took it in stride and helped me find a way to do as much as we could, for the least amount of money. Never once did I feel like I was judged for not spending every last dime on my dog. I am so grateful to her and the rest of the staff! (Kelly the vet tech is my favourite! Sorry to the other vet techs, I'm sure you're lovely.) :) The practical advice, the genuine caring , coupled with efficient service, decent pricing, and (hold on to your hats) COMMON SENSE approach, will keep me going back !
I came to the Stittsville Small Animal Clinic to euthanize my cat, after our regular clinic was unavailable. Calling in over the phone was quick and the receptionist was extremely kind, understanding, and helpful. When we arrived at our timeslot, we were promptly taken to a room and looked at. The entire process was done peacefully and with care. At no point did I feel like we were valued any less than any other client, and the passion the employees have for their work is more than apparent. When I left, I wanted to switch clinics before I realized that I had no need for a vet anymore. This was obviously a hard time for us, and I'm extremely grateful to the SSAC for helping us get through it.
I recently got two new barn kittens....and within 5 days, the female died....it was brutal, and with no warning. I was panicked trying to get a visit for my male kitten to make sure he wasn't sick. With covid, everywhere was either not taking new patients or not available until July. Stittsville main made not only an earlier appointment for my boy, they found room for me that very day after hearing what I was going through. They took such good care of Ferdinand and kept me in the loop and explained everything to me - without rushing me! I can't say enough amazing kind words about this wonderful clinic. They clearly love animals as much as the pet owners do!
They are friendly and professional. They keep on top of my dogs regimen with timely reminders. Most irritating experience was an issue concerning my dogs nails. They charged $32.00 which was $10.00 above earlier clippings. When I inquired i was given some implausible excuse. I noticed a few of his nails were still quite long and suspected they weren't cut at all. The reasoning was the quick was too long. I had him manicured a week later by a groomer who claimed there was no issue at all. I chocked it up to a bad day for the hospital but at $32 00 and the quality of the clip they won't be asked to clip again. But as vets they are reliable.
I have been going to Stittsville Small Animal Clinic for some time now for my two female cats, Kimi and Penelope. I am very happy with the service they provide, their customer service is excellent, making appointments is easy, and they’re always accommodating to changes (ex. When I was sick and had to rebook, when Penelope wasn’t cooperating to come to the clinic, when I had a stray cat that I needed to check for microchip, etc). I believe they truly care about our animals and always give me all the information I need to make a decision. Their prices seem fair and they are not pushy with any service or treatment. Highly recommend them!!
Friendly, but always pushing procedures, vet looked at my cats teeth for less than a half second and somehow determined that she had stage 3 out of 4 gingivitis and gum redness. We did not go ahead with the 1500$ cleaning and possible extractions. We have since seen in her mouth and there is no way she is past a stage 1 or 2 on the scale, and this is a couple of years later, she is still happy and eating. Be careful when the vet gives you the ‘cats don’t show pain’ spiel . They may not show pain but you know your animal. Will try somewhere else.
Your typical vet - be careful of up charging for senseless things. I don't know which is worse vets, used car salespeople, or dentists. You just want to do good by your pet and ensure they are healthy but when you are being charged for ridiculous expenses and unnecessary visits - it just leaves a terrible taste in your mouth. One of the nurses is extremely rude and not accepting of any responsibility. Here's an idea...fully disclose your charges or expect that your customers with be very disappointment and likely not return.
long term multi-pet customer of the clinic. recently our dog was experiencing abnormal hyperactive activity and so we called the clinic during opening times to bring to the vets attention...were told that maybe the pet was just having a good day...was then told that the vet left (early) and we should take to emergency clinic buyer beware...they are vets only when its at their convenience... clearly not followers of all creatures great and small philosophy
I almost don't want to write this review so other people won't find out about it and clog their appointment books! :) They are THE best vet in the city. Our experiences have only been positive. They love animals, their pricing is fair, and their employees are excellent. They are amazing at communicating when your pet is staying at the vet, and they always call to run anything by you that needs to be done. I literally cannot say enough about this business.
friendly enough, vet said my cat had gingivitis and need dental cleaning and possible extractions. Also, said my cat showed no drooling even thou i said she did. The vet indicated it was very difficult to have my cat show her mouth. having said that, i do not know how my cat was really assessed given i was not present it the room (covid). By the time i took my cat to another vet, sadly, my cat was assessed with mouth cancer
The vets here are really great, they were very caring and professional. They also charge less than our last vet (march road). Our cat's health was a tough case and they supported us all the way through, checking up on him and always keeping us informed. He unfortunately passed away recently and they sent us a lovely card signed by the whole team. Definitely recommend.
Worst clinic on the planet. They sent me home with my cat knowing she had a severe respiratory infection; and refused to sell me antibiotics that would save my cat's life. They effectively have sentenced my cat to death because they are bias toward people with special needs. DO NOT go to this clinic. Theu are terrible people looking to rip you off and kill your pets.
They love animals, their pricing is fair, and their employees are excellent. I realize the push to sell as that's part of the business, which at times can be annoying and seemed forced. I'm okay with saying no...I would give 5 stars if it didn't seem so forced the "Up-Sell". But hey every business does it...so...it is what it is right.
Dr Gallagher is unlike most other vets - I've had the pleasure of meeting. Both superb care and aftercare and reminds me of the style of care that I received when I used to go to my vet in Ireland. Someone who is not all about the cash grab, but takes the time care and attention with your pet to give the best possible outcome.
I am so thankful to the staff at Stittsville Small Animal Clinic. They were able to make room to see my cat who was ill and who has since made a full recovery. They were very thorough and kind and I am so grateful for the care that they provided. They even followed up before the weekend to make sure that we were ok.
Avoid this clinic if possible. Every time you go its a new Vet and new staff. They only care about the $$$$ not the animal. They do tests and treatment without notifying you and then charge you for it. They try and intimidate and scare you into having tests. The reception staff is not caring and very rude.
Dr. Ann McKenna is the BEST! The staff are great and always welcome my lil' girl with a smile and plenty of scratches!! They go above and beyond to ensure my little angel is always healthy (mini-golden doodle). As a health care professional myself (I work with humans), I highly recommend this clinic!
We go out of our way and drive past a dozen other clinics just to come here. Staff is nice, Cliffy was well taken care of today and made comfortable during his visit. No pressure was put on us to spend money on any unnecessary procedures. Will continue to come here in the future
Always professional and compassionate care. Everyone at this clinic is responsive to questions and concerns and they go above an beyond to make sure our dog has everything he needs! Thank you Angela for tracking down some food for our old "puppy"!
We had to make a difficult decision about our pet. The staff and Dr. were very understanding and provided empathetic care. Based on this clinic’s compassion and professionalism, we plan to bring all of our future pets to this clinic and team.
Amazing service, consideration and flexible with appointments. The resident veterinarians (shoutout to Dr. Companion) take the time to provide options and explanations on what works best for your animal!
I was extremely satisfied, they were booked & still found the time to look at my cat. Several days later he is doing much better! Rcv'd detailed info, so overall very satisfied. Thank you!
I have been going to the clinic for over 14 years. The vets, clinicians, receptionists have always been very accommodating and knowledgeable. I continue to recommend the clinic everyone!!!
Small clinic, huge heart. Every single Dr. I've dealt with has been absolutely professional and caring. They know my dog's name and they rush out to greet him. I love this establishment
A BIG thanks to Dr. Waller and his team for taking great care of Ziggy, even though he wasn't a great patient. The medication worked well and I and so grateful …
Dr Gallagher is amazing! Very compassionate, thorough, knowledgeable, and only does what needs to get done. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a vet.
Friendly staff, on time, they are great with my extra fearful dog and take extra measures to make sure he is cared for in a safe way for everyone!
Good animal clinic except for the constant up selling of products and services and all the bad things that can happen to your dog
I’ve always had great experience with this clinic and trust them to take care of my dog. Staff are kind, doctors are thorough.
Had to have my dog put down and care and compassion was very conforting. Got to stay with her and hold her until she was gone.
I've always had good experiences here but they've just changed management so I can't speak to how it'll be moving forward.
Kind and caring staff, they really helped me during a difficult time. I highly recommend Stittsville Small Animal Clinic
