This is one of my favorite coffee and food spots in the area. Expect South American flavors, specifically if Peruvian origin, in the food, drink, and atmosphere. You can come for breakfast to have a pastry or empanada with your coffee. For lunch or dinner, I strongly suggest the Wasi House sandwich. It is shredded chicken, bacon, caramelized pineapples, cheese and pepper sauce. If the person preparing it toasts the middle of the sandwich at the cut, the crispness adds another layer of texture and flavor. This time someone did not do it, but the sandwich is still one of the only ones I fawn over in Charlotte. Now that Sumaq latte is a whole vibe. You can get a cinnamon latte almost anywhere, but I promise you that this one tastes like REAL cinnamon and not a flavored syrupy mess. It is the perfect balance of sweet, spicy, and bitter. I was suggested this the first time I came and can't move myself to try anything else. If they have chica morada, Peruvian purple corn drink, do order it. I like to order it with no ice to take home where I add tequila or dark rum. It is perfectly fine as is, but this cocktail takes greatness to perfection for me. The interior? See the video I posted. The outdoor area transports you to Peru though you are perched directly on South Blvd. If you can tune out the traffic, you can enter bliss. Big thumbs up to the stools that a disabled plus size vertically challenged woman to sit with ease. This is a rarity at establishments.

Hip coffee shop with a modern feel to it. I stopped in here the other weekend and ordered a chai, a ham and cheese, and an alfajores. The chai was phenomenal, and I loved the artwork that went into it. Not every coffee shop I go to serves their chai this way so it is always a pleasant surprise when I receive it like this! The ham and cheese reminded me more of a doughy stromboli versus an empanada but I still enjoyed it. This may have just been a miscommunication though since I don't think they meant to say this was an empanada. However, I would love to try their empanadas sometime! Unfortunately, they were just out of them when I had visited. Lastly, that alfajores which was a divine little cookie. The shortbread cookie was perfect and the dulce de leche filling was tasty. They have indoor and outdoor seating and additional parking in the back. It was also getting quite busy after I sat down so it seems to be a popular spot in the area too.

One of the cooler coffee spots in Charlotte. The interior is spacious, warm, and inviting. Plenty of seating, of many varieties both indoor and outdoor. The food and drink options are unique, especially so the food. Lots of great options for fuller meals, like freshly made sandwiches, wraps, waffles etc. As well as an assortment of delicious pastries. I got one of the sandwiches and their seasonal pumpkin latte. The latte took about 5 mins to prepare and the food about 15. Both were delicious, the only mention I’d have in regard to being un-positive is that the pumpkin coffee didn’t really taste like pumpkin, just more like a seasonal spiced latte. But it was still delicious. Really recommend this spot, they also have outlets and Wi-Fi it’s a great coffee spot to get some work done in if you want to be out :)

I’m really happy I stopped by here! It’s an open and airy coffee spot! I feel like if they had real plants rather than artificial, it would have added an extra sense of a natural feel, but that doesn’t matter that much! The service was great! The woman that took my order was super sweet and the men were really nice as well. The mocha latte was good and I’m happy I tried the guava and cheese roll. Definitely something different to try in the morning, but filling! I liked the beef empanada. I assumed it would just be beef and not beef and potatoes. I think it would have been better that way. However, I LOVED the dipping sauce!! When I got it, it had a small kick, perfect flavor for the beef. I really could have dumped the entire sauce inside my empanada. All in all, a solid spot to try!

My wife and I really enjoyed our breakfast date here. 1. This coffee shop is filled with natural light it's very modern and clean. It's also inviting because it smells great! 2. The service is great. Everyone is really friendly and they bring your order out to your seat. 3. I am not a big coffee drinker but I enjoyed the frappe and my wife who is a coffee drinker, really liked her latte. 4. Free parking is available adjacent the building and there is also a large lot directly behind the building. 5. Our food was delicious. It took a while to prepare but it was worth the wait. We had the Wasi House and Gratin Lulan sandwiches along with a dulce de leche muffin. They allowed us to substitute to fit our dietary needs. 6. Even the bathrooms were clean, they smelled so nice! 7. Give this place a try, you will not be disappointed.

We stopped here to get two coffees and a pastry before getting on the road for a long drive. We thought it would take 20 minutes max to grab coffees and get back in the car. The whole thing took almost an hour. There was a crazy line of people that went around the store, unfortunately resulting from the slow cashier and "barista". When my coffee finally came up, it tasted really off and had nowhere near enough almond milk for a latte. Husband's cold brew was watered down and no cream. Sumaq seems to be the kind of place that really wants to look like a cute coffee shop with its fake plants, cheap furniture, and store bought pastries, but without the concentration on the quality of product, the facade is obvious.

One of my favorite coffee shops in Charlotte. Not because it's necessarily the best coffee, but because it's something you won't find anywhere else. I love the Sumaq latte (house cinnamon syrup), waffle with guava and the empanadas! I've never had a waffle with cheese in the middle and the guava jam tops off the sweet and savory combo. The empanadas are delicious and the sauce that it comes with is perfect. I've had empanadas all over Charlotte, but these are the best! My favorite are the Peruvian!

This place is an absolute gem, and if you ever find yourself on this portion of South Blvd it is more than worth the effort to stop in. The coffee is excellent, the staff is very friendly and helpful and they have both sweet and savory food, including the best damn empanadas colombianas I've had. The atmosphere is clean and bright with a touch of "reclaimed industrial space" and plenty of seating as well as a beautiful outdoor patio. The only negative is that the location is a little bit difficult to get to and parking is extremely limited, but those are more of a "Charlotte can't city plan its way out of a wet paper bag" problem. If you can get past that and make it in, you won't be disappointed.

First visit. Bright, spacious shop and very clean. Bathrooms were immaculate. Lots of rich pastry options. I am not a fan of the roaster they carry. The cold brew option was not in stock so I had their nitro cold brew. It was a lighter roast and had good flavor. One complaint: the nitro was served on ice. Prices seemed slightly over par. Service was acceptable. With all the coffee options in CLT and SouthEnd, I will likely not return.

Sumaq Coffee was a quick pit stop for us to get coffee, and it didn’t disappoint. We got the Sumaq Coffee and it tasted just perfect. The service was polite and quick. They sell sandwiches and pastries as well, which I’m looking forward to try the next time I’m here. The indoor seating area was pretty busy on the afternoon we visited, which told us it’s a good cafe to chill. The parking area outside is pretty small. Overall a decent cafe to get coffee.

My friend had the Chai Latte & it absolutely blew her away!! She loved it and said it was the best one she's ever had!!! I got an Iced Americano w/Caramel Pecan Syrup. It was delicious; I'm extra happy to see they serve Pure Intentions Coffee....LOVE THEIR COFFEE!!! We also shared the Dulce de Leche pastry as well as the Nutella. Both were delicious however the Dulce ... OUT OF THIS WORLD!! I'll definitely be back to visit this cute, CLEAN, coffee shop with beautiful decor & good vibes!! ☕️❤️ The service was also excellent, both baristas were very friendly & knowledgeable!! Highly recommend!!

Simply first class! What a splendid new place to spend some time. Menu offerings are unusual and delightful. Everything is handmade on site with plenty of TLC. Desserts are ridiculously good. Coffee is wonderful. All staff are warm and welcoming. Elmer is the best. If you want to support big business taking over our country, then, by all means eat at one of the chains. If you want local owners and small businesses to have a chance then eat locally, eat here!

Chic local coffee shop! The interior design is so organic, welcoming, and minimalistic with a TON of natural light. The coffee is very smooth and well-served. Elmer, our barista, was very kind and attentive and was manning the bar by himself, hence expect a slower service. Be aware that for near $10, the sandwiches are only enough for a small bite, so don’t come super hungry. Sumaq is great to camp out and do some computer work or for a cute coffee date.

One of the best spots here in Charlotte! The place is so aesthetic pleasing, clean, and spacious. The staff were so friendly and kind. We came in as a very big group and staff welcomed us so warmly. They also managed to serve all of our coffees in glass mugs and gave us all latte art (which is something you rarely see here in Charlotte). Also after trying most of the cafes in CLT I would say the coffee here is one of the best. Overall we had such a great experience and would definitely come back again!!

Stopped by this highly reviewed gem cafe for my routine afternoon caffeine before the flight. It has great ambience with relaxing and well decorated design perfectly for everyone who need space for social activities and focus time. As I can’t process heavily sugared dessert, empanada was recommended to me. I chose chicken and olive for the filling and it has turned out so delicious! The dip is divine as I could taste a hint of masala and it goes well amazingly with the empanada! Truly a must go cafe in Charlotte area.

First time here and had a great experience. Parking was a bit odd, but the space inside is beautiful. Coffee and pastries were great. There is a small discount if you use cash! Wifi was fast and gave me no issues. Several coworkers commented how pretty my video call background was We had a spill at our table and the people working were quick and kind to come clean it up. I want to come back and try the actual food they have!

Coffee ⭐️⭐️⭐️ I tried the Sumaq Latte and it was only ok. The staff did lightly sweeten it as requested so that was good. I did not try any other options on their menu. Ambiance ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The cafe has an open layout and inviting atmosphere. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, which is a great place to work or hangout with friends. Wifi is good. Fantastic coffee! 10/10 recommend. The atmosphere is very relaxing, welcoming and clean. The service was a little slow, but I know it’s only because they take their time to literally make the best coffee. You can’t rush perfection. The food looked fresh and delicious, but we ate prior so I didn’t get to try it. This is the perfect place to get some work done or have coffee with friends. I may have just found my new favorite coffee spot. My only feedback is to have a trash can by the door. ❤️

  • Paquita P

A really nice and bright cafe. The owners are Latino and have brought some wonderful flavors to their coffee, pastries and desserts. Besides the typical coffee drinks, you can get chicha morada. They also have empanadas, alfajores, tres leche and passion fruit cheesecake. I had a sumaq latte and a tres leche with strawberries. It was delicious and not too sweet.

Without being too much of a coffee snob, I haven't found Charlotte to be a great coffee town. But - Sumaq could hold its own anywhere in the country. Comfortable casual, industrial feel inside with the usuals working on their laptops, a creative menu of bakery and freshly made sandwiches, and perfectly made coffee. There's even comfortable outside seatin if you're needing to be chatty or just don't mind some road noise.

Maybe we caught them on a bad day, but a 25 minute wait for a double espresso and a latte to go. We almost had to leave before we got our stuff. The latte was good but the espresso had a soapy aftertaste and seemed a little thin. Not what I was hoping for. Overall I was disappointed but I might try again just to see if maybe this was an aberration.

Vanessa presented a wonderful spread of Peruvian sandwiches. The food was delicious with great flavors from Peru. We tried the coffee and the prices were very affordable. The staff prepared everything quickly and were very friendly. The sweets were very tasty too. We came back twice as we had to try more items on the menu. We are happy to have such a great coffee shop nearby. Looking forward to our next visit.

Charlotte doesn't have a plethora of coffee shops with good atmosphere and good coffee, unfortunately. Sumaq does check both boxes. The coffee is delicious, barista is very talented, and the atmosphere is perfect for working and/or meeting with friends to mingle. Great place in an unsuspecting location. More
