Homely, nostalgic and comforting food from a warm service crew :) This place came highly recommended from a Facebook group and just to be sure we returned on two separate days to get a full experience. We went first on Easter Sunday and then the following Saturday. On both occasions, the service was sufficiently attentive and personable and the food quick and tasty. We sampled the following dishes: Nasi Lemak with ginger tumeric chicken Nasi Lemak bungkus with chicken karaage - coconut taste from the rice was subtle and not overpowering. The sambal was quite mild but perfect for Nasi Lemak, where the rice is basically a vehicle to eat more sambal. Both types of chicken were yummy and not dried out but the edge here goes to the fried chicken. -peanuts and fish were satisfyingly salty and crisp. -pickled veggies were also tangy and complemented the dish Tau too fah with Gula Melaka -smooth tau too fah here with Gula Melaka. Close enough to back home for us to buy 3. Siew Pao with cha siu -surprisingly this was extremely good. I would legitimately come back just for Siew Pao that's near me. Teh Tarik - when we saw the froth we instantly knew it was going to be good, then the classic hawker centre cup sealed the deal. Smooth teh, tea taste is strong enough and did not go nuts with the condensed milk. Curry puff Sardine puff - have not yet eaten as we are stuffed. May update with edit. Safe to say you won't be disappointed in whichever you choose. When the uncle asks you "teh Tarik you want sweet or less sweet?" You know it's authentic. It's quite an interesting kopitiam vibe in a modern space. Go give it a try when you can, order ahead to avoid disappointment!

Been wanting to go here for a while as many people recommended it. It’s a cafeteria of a church, very modern and big building. You can hear the sermon from the speaker while you are there. Lots of Malaysian foods in the menu, some Japanese. Tried their nasi lemak kukus and chicken katsu rice. That nasi lemak kukus took a while to come out but when it came it looks amazing, with lots of little dishes like fried shrimps, picked cabbages, 2 drumsticks of fried chicken, boiled egg and slices of cucumber. I think it was such a good value of a meal for $16! Chicken was cooked beautifully, moist in the inside. My favourite will be the fried shrimps, although I only 3 pieces. The chili sauce was beautiful, might be too spicy if you dont like spicy but for me it was perfect spiciness. Chicken katsu was ok and light. Lots of cabbages and a bit of pickled ginger, cherry tomatoes and cucumber. For almost same price, I definitely think the nasi lemak kukus was much a better choice and value. Will come back here again for nice authentic Malaysian foods. Not so much of place for good atmosphere since it’s a church cafeteria but good for a quick, nice lunch.

Authentic Malaysian food in a neighbourhood with lots of Malaysians. In pandemic times, this feels closest to being home, which was really heartwarming. Food was quick, delicious and good sized portions. We had nasi lemak, one with fried chicken and another with the grilled fish (ikan Bakar), Malaysian breakky (Kaya toast & half boiled eggs), and a curry puff, with some teh Tarik. Kaya toast and the ikan Bakar (grilled fish) was the highlight for me. Kaya toast was massive and generous amounts of Kaya and butter combo - really good! Ikan Bakar (grilled fish) is hard to come by in Melbourne and I was really satisfied with the sambal salty & lemon tangy flavours, grilled in banana leaf. We also bought some nyonya kuih to try, but it wasn't as good as their hot foods. Curry puffs was 3 out of 5, curry filling was good but the pastry was quite soft, not crispy. Overall, very good and absolutely affordable prices. So glad we came to try this out. Even though it's far from where we live, it was worth it!

I enjoy eating at Terry’s. There’s ample of seating unless one visit on the weekends or peak time. Almost all the dishes are amazing. My kids enjoy the kolo/ocho mee, while the adults enjoy the nasi kerabu, curry mee and Malaysian coffee. There’s kid’s play ground if you’re bringing your little ones. Perfect for family dining. I tasted the Rojak last term holiday - unfortunately not able to load onto Google. Serving was huge - meant to share. Updated photo- lamb shank nasi lemak (week of 9/11/23). Lamb shank was succulent!

Negatives: - Nasi Lemak Kukus came with ice cold hard boiled egg. Literally ice cold. Not sure how that’s enjoyable. - As it was beside the prawns, some of the prawns were cold too, and thus very chewy. - The 2 chicken drumsticks it came with was clearly old, possibly a day old. It was very tough and it had that overnight texture. - They forgot to serve the Nasi Lemak Bungkus, so I had to approach them to check. The lady checked with a couple of staff to ensure that we hadn’t received it. It’s not nice when you’re suspected of cheating. - Lastly, there was no Milo. At 10:20am? Very upsetting. - Not many smiles to go around either, all the servers look quite unhappy. Positives: - Teh Tarik, tau foo fah and the baked char siew pastry were all tasty/delicious. First experience was great. This second time was abysmal. Unlikely to return.

Located in the foyer of City Harvest church in Wantirna South with ample parking and well-spaced seating within, friendly service, clean and bright atmosphere. We ordered the highly recommended Nasi Kerabu, and it was delivered to our table after a short wait. The rice was appropriately tinted with the blue of the butterfly pea flower, and the fragrance of the spicy gravy and sambal was promising. The sizeable maryland of well-marinated chicken was fried, a bit on the dry side, but very flavourful. The accompanying salted fish and crackers were both nicely crunchy. The topping of grated coconut in and long beans provided a welcome textural dimension to the dish. The half salted egg, was overcooked, and was not as appetising as it might have been. The rice should have stood out more, but lacked flavour, and had a slightly powdery texture, instead of being springy. Sadly underwhelming dish. Could have been so good.

I have visited this place many times. You can definitely find a variety of Malaysian/ Singaporean dishes here. Some dishes taste authentic, but unfortunately, some are not. Today, I tried their chicken rice, and the sambal didn't taste as it used to when I lived in Singapore and Malaysia. The dish still tastes good, but it's not as authentic as you would like it to be. Nevertheless, I am still happy to come and visit this place again, as it has some great dishes too. Try their Nasi lemak, a standard Malaysian/Singaporean dish!

Alright, missing home too much and went to this cafe/canteen to try their menu. Is our first time and found this simple canteen is inside the CityLife Church. Please make sure you get a table first as you need to provide table number before you queue to order. If you alone, is alright. Our usual norm, just use tissue or water bottle or Tupperware to chop your seat before you queue to order! (Haha!) If you bring your kids along, don’t worry. There’s a mini playground for them after the meal. I personally love roti banjir, not too spicy. Just celup your roti into the yolk, heaps of curry and sambal before putting it into your mouth. Best maikkkk!

Overrated IMHO - Came highly recommended and we left with no desire to return. FOOD Curry puff - the curry is not flavourful with barely any filling and the pastry isn’t great Pulut bakar (grilled glutinous rice with dedicated coconut+ shrimp in banana leaves) - one bite and there is no fragrance from banana leaves / coconut, can’t taste the shrimp… Nasi lemak (coconut rice) with grilled fish - not bad among the lot, good crisp anchovies and grilled fish is a rare find with NL. But the hard boiled egg was cold, the sambal is not authentic SERVICE It’s an order at the counter cafe. The least they can do is to smile & be friendly during the short interaction but no…

This will be my first and last time visiting. Overall food was alright but the services from one of the ladies is very bad. When we half way eating, we realised that we did not get our satay and we told the lady. She gave us that look like we trying to scammed her for a plate of satay. She went back to check with one of the staff and she told her we did ordered but she still insists of searching back for the food docket ( took her so long as we been watching her). When she delivered the food at the table she did not even say sorry. What a bad attitude for a server. Totally unbelievable and unacceptable.

The attitude of the girls that work here are appalling. Rude, standoffish, bad manners, disrespectful. They need to be sent back to Sunday school to learn how to function like a proper human being. Absolutely disgraceful to the hospitality industry. No pleasantries and food took over 30minutes to come. What's worse was the food came cold. See other reviews regarding cold hard boiled egg and chicken. Looks like it's a common trend here - rude staff, cold food and forgetting orders. Avoid at all costs.

Went at wrong time. Extremely busy, very long queue (not why I gave 3 stars). Kolok noodle (only the noodle) is one of the best I tried in Australia, but no where near original Sarawak kolok noodle. Very sour (I am referring to normal kolok mee, not o Cho noodle). Tasted about the same as o Cho version. Teh Tarik doesn't have much taste of tea, but coffee was ok. Very slow like another comment from someone else, and kept hearing staffs get "lectured". The cha Sao was good. Chaikueh was reasonably good. (See photo of normal kolok vs O Cho noodle, the one with fish ball is O Cho version)

  • Lysh Jade

Good coffee but service is average. They open at 8am according to Google but you won’t be served until they are ready, so this could mean 8:15 or later - whenever they have organised everything else. I got there around 8:10, the lady said she can’t make coffee yet and she’s not ready and still getting things out like chalkboards and signs etc. I asked how long she would be and she said 2 minutes. I wait 3 minutes and then ask how much longer as I thought I might need to abort getting a coffee. She then says 5 minutes or more! Not the first time this has happened.

17/9 went back for more Asian. Sundays are no good as it’s a church going day. Most of the items are gone. Take away the rice dishes and better to drop a note to reserve next time before going down. Yum! Went there with a friend for some Asian delights. Had Kolo mee while my friend had Sarawak laksa. Very nice and no complaints since it’s rare to find authentic Asian cuisine. Between us we bought the varieties of nonya kueks and curry puffs. Happy! Photos next time. Too busy eating.

10/09/2023 - visited this piece again and tried nasi kerabu and nasi lemak. The nasi kerabu was very well plated and delicious. The nasi lemak was a little dry and would have been better with more sambal. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. Spacious and lots of seating available. Not much of a crowd during my visit at about 1pm. Fok chow noodles were good. The menu was quite extensive.

Situated within the CityLife church building itself, it might be easy to miss it. The noodles were simple yet tasted so heavenly good. The rice is drenched in this light soy flavoured sauce. The accompanying pork slices were soft and melts in your mouth. Plenty of seats inside and outside with a small playground on the side perfect for family meals out. First time here after reading many good reviews. Tried the weekend special Braised Pork with rice and Nasi Lemak Kukus with Chicken Drumsticks. Absolutely delicious! Teh Tarik is not as strong as I would like it to be but still good. Authentic Malaysian cuisine. Polite staffs. Spacious sitting area. Felt so comfortable eating here. Will definitely be back to try other dishes.

Delicious, hearty and authentic Malaysian food! Their Nasi Kerabu was AMAZING! I highly recommend it. All the elements of the dish were so tasty and complemented one another so beautifully. The chicken was also so juicy, mmm. The Nasi Lemak Kukus was wonderful too. It was rich in flavour and texture. Loved it! Indoor and outdoor sheltered seating available.

The nasi kerabu is the highlight and the best. We are Terry’s regular customer and have tried quite a few items on their menu. Love the kaya served on thick toast as it is not too sweet. We liked everything that we have ordered so far. It is best to get there before noon as it can get very busy. I was given the wrong order for my take away during my first visit and Terry happily asked me to collect my nasi kerabu without charging me (even though I offered to pay for it).

  • Sunny Days Melbourne

With Terry’s Kitchen more than 10 kms away from home, I was glad I could order their items with a flat rate $10 delivery fee. I ordered their nasi kerabu and nasi lemak with spicy squid. Everything was packed nicely and the food was quite delicious. I enjoyed the accompanying sauces. The salad was fresh, the chicken was well seasoned and the blue pea rice was spot on. I also ordered some noodles and cakes as well, which I will post on Instagram this week.

Great selection of Malaysian favourite dishes. This place has the best roti banjir I've found in Melbourne so far. Goat curry nasi lemak which is a new addition to the menu was excellent too. It's just the right level of spicy and so tender.

Food was fine but they won't take your allegies seriously so be careful. Attitude of staff - ironically, not very churchlike. Had to wait even though I was right in front of the guy at the register (he was just on his phone even after I said hi) and then was told that I didn't have an allergy, just that I didn't like the ingredient - guy definitely had a god-complex (pretty sure he was the owner). Nah thanks. Better food elsewhere with better service.

  • dannyt

Overall quite good food. Had the mái kerabu n the nasi le mak. Quality was there with a higher price point for obvious reasons. The Teh terak hmmm not sure whether it’s training that’s the issue I was happy with mine but when I ordered the lady in front was allowed to đạm d hút the sugar level. Whereas when my sister went to order she was told cannot. What da. The curry mee I thought was ok not the best but ok. Would definitely return for the Le mak.

  • Adrian Eboy

Score : Food - 8/10 Service - 10/10 Ambience - 9/10 Ordered the Sarawak Laksa and Teh Tarik. Sarawak Laksa has room to improve as the soup has concentrated shrimp paste. If they dial down the shrimp paste, the dish would be wonderful. Teh tarik was properly “pulled”, but the milk was too much, as the taste of tea was too mild. *** Tried the Kon Lo Mee too, this dish is Value For Money and it is an exact replicate of the ones you get in Sarawak.

  • Vernis S

Food was delicious and price was very reasonable for the portion sizes! Only disappointment was they ran out of Nasi Bungkus by the time we arrived at about 11:45am.. and that we don't live anywhere near! Will certainly be looking to visit again next time we're in the area!

Been here a few times now - great restaurant providing authentic Malaysian cuisine. Their dishes are not like many other Malaysian restaurants which are more bland and diluted flavours, but taste more like what you get at home. The kolo mee, which is always on their menu is a great breakfast food to go to, whilst their lunch specials such as Sarawak Laksa and Nasi Kerabu are delicious and flavoursome.

The specials are really delicious and have a very authentic Malaysian home taste. Tried their nasi lemak ikan bakar previously, and today nasi lemak bungkus and Sarawak laksa with soft shell crabs. For dining in you should avoid weekends as I am sure they will be super crowded with church members.

No-fuss authentic Malaysian fare - should be a default go-to for anyone whose got a craving for said cuisine. Non-pro tip: check the specials available online as they do feature some delightful surprises fairly regularly and sell out fast.

We love their tasty, generous and very reasonably priced chicken nasi kerabu. Their other items are worth a try. Staff are friendly and manage the mealtime rush well. Plenty of parking in the compound or across the street

Good Sarawak laksa, so far the best I have tried in Melbourne, not as good as those found at Kuching though. They added soft shell crab to the laksa, but I still prefer the classical -- prawn. Kolo mee hoon was just OK.
