I chose this company based on the great reviews, but I came away disappointed. As for the pros - Kyle was on time and was generally pleasant, the wait to get service was also pretty short so if you need something urgent they could be a good choice. So why the poor rating? First of all this company requires a minimum 2 hour charge - this is fine since it was clearly communicated before the appointment but it is higher than other companies we used. We had a bunch of things we wanted looked into and sent pictures ahead of time. Kyle arrived and went through our issues, he also spent time recommending expensive repairs for things that weren't broken (ie, replacing electrical panel). He spent over an hour looking at problems, and we settled on replacing 4 switches in the remaining hour that we had. He assured us no problem. Mid-way through, his 'repair' on a switch broke another switch that was previously working fine, but ok.. things happen, we agree to pay for a 5th switch. Kyle then proceeds drag out this fifth switch for a full hour to bill us for 3 hours instead of 2. So how does it go from 1 hour for 4 switches to 2 hours for 5? Basically Kyle went to his Van 4-5 times to get random things, he would sit in there and answer messages on his phone or whatever. He manually writes the quotes in very beautiful cursive but extremely slowly. Also note most companies will either quote for free or give a quote after you send pictures, not write them manually in fully billable time. The company later sent us quotes for other issues he looked into but didn't have time to address. One quote was for the installation of a new outlet - $700 including $200 in materials. I got two outlets installed by other companies, one was $250 and the other was $170 all-in. So their materials charge was higher than the total cost of doing the job elsewhere! Must be gold plated wire from the moon. The second quote was to fix/repair our garage lights, which was over $1,000. Another company completed this job for under $400. The other reviews claim prices are fair - they certainly do not seem fair to me. Lastly, I had two other electrical companies look into the repairs this company suggested (replacing panel, etc) and after opening the panel and such both said it was not necessary, so watch for the upsells as well. Judging from the reviews this company normally does good business, just be careful that even if usually honest, it does not mean always honest.

I was extremely appalled by how this company operates. Requested a quote to conceal cables behind the TV, mount the TV on the wall and get a couple of outlets closer to the TV. It took me a while to explain what needed to be done as the person on the phone couldn't understand me. I was then transferred to an electrician to describe the job, and I was told that the electrician needed to physically come in to review the work that needed to be done. I was clear enough to communicate my expectations and didn't think an electrician was required to look at it for a quote. They booked me in and sent a virtual google invite. The next day the receptionist called me back and requested me to send in the details again with the list of things to be done. I resend the details with pictures, hoping that the electrician wasn't physically present here. I received a google invite with a link that stated, "There'll be a charge of $100 for a quote." …. who charges for a quote? Even though the google invite had a virtual meeting invite, the electrician came in person for the meeting, which could have been clearly done virtually as per the calendar invite. The electrician was hardly here for 10 mins. I walked him through the job and explained to him what needed to be done. The following day, I received two invoices 1 for the quote ($94.45) and the 2nd was for the actual job. The supplies on the invoice were ridiculously priced. Charging over $1300, which wasn't right and ridiculously inflated, I chose not to proceed with them, and I managed to get that work done for merely half the price by another company, and I can vouch for their Honesty. Since then, I've constantly been getting calls/emails to pay for the quote, or else they'll be talking to the lawyer or sending it to collections. Poor communication between the customer and the receptionist has led to this. It's a shame to brand your company as 'Honest.' I would not recommend this company to anyone.

Emailed Kyle and he got back within the day to discuss the project. I was ready to replace 7 new light fixtures around my house and one outside. I also needed some work on one of my bedrooms that seemed to have a broken dimmer switch. Kyle organized to have Mike come out and he was able to install the 8 lights in a little over two hours including one light that was very high up in my stairwell. Mike was great to work with and he even helped to cleanup the old fixtures and took them with him at the end of the job. Kyle and Mike were great with communication, they both gave me phone calls the day of the installation to let me know when they would arrive and Kyle sent me a copy of the invoice in advance so I would know the amount to expect. He even made some adjustments the morning of the appointment as I had made some small errors in my count of the number of lights we needed to work on. In the end we didn't need to install the dimmer switch after Mike found the issue with the light in bedroom and Kyle refunded the difference within the same day. Would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a high quality and reasonably priced electrician.

My requirement was to give a quote on some different tasks and then I could choose what I needed done before the end of the year and what could be done after the new year. They responded that they would charge 90 dollars for the initial inspection which would be credited back once the scope of work was approved. The quotes came in and we found that the cost for everything was beyond our budget for this year. After back and forth emails asking for clarifications on some items quoted, which were never answered, we decided to go with a minimal task which was fully understood. Seller came back and said that they would charge another 90 Dollars for a service call plus a 50 Dollar miscellaneous material charge for the work. They said that the additional service charge was because the job would be under 500 Dollars. In the real world that amounts to an additional surcharge of 230 Dollars for any order under 500 Dollars. So if the job is 180 then add the surcharge of 230 and voila 410 dollars, thank you very much. No thanks!

We accidentally overloaded one of the circuits at home, causing some of the electrical outlets to burn. Luckily, we were able to schedule in for an appointment with The Honest Electricians Inc. within the next day. They are easy to communicate with; their quote is straight forward, and the price is fair. Kyle showed up right on time for our appointment. He did a walkthrough with me to identify all the issues previously discussed plus additional work that were identified during the walkthrough. He took his time to explain all the tasks needed to be done prior to starting the job and provided some useful tips for preventative action. He was able to complete all the repairs within the original estimated time. He was professional, friendly and very thorough prep job to cleanup. We are very happy with the service provided and we will reach out to The Honest Electricians Inc. again for our future projects.

People cross paths, they come and go, we interact, sometimes briefly, sometimes at length, and move on. It’s all too easy to expect someone to just “do a job” and then get on to the next thing. Commercial customer who asked vendor to quote install of a Tesla charger at one of our properties in town. Value of service upgrade and cable run > $5,000. In response to being extended an invitation to submit a quote the vendor demanded $90. Replied back clarifying that there was no need to prequalify the lead as two electricians were invited to quote, they were one, and lowest bid will be awarded the work once we confirm the scopes are identical. No response, followed up in writing, still no response. Awarded the work to the other electrician who took 15 minutes out of their day to visit our property and submit a quote. Will not invite vendor for future work at any of our Calgary properties. If you are a property manager or commercial client we do not recommend inviting this vendor to participate in your RFP/RFQ.

I highly recommend Kyle! Kyle and his workers were very professional. They showed up at our house wearing masks and worked with me to finish my basement. I did some of the work myself, pot lights, boxes and some runs etc. They made sure everything I did was up to code and fixed whatever was not. We had excellent communication throughout the entire project as I did this in a few stages over a couple months. Kyle's prices were fair and quality of work was exceptional. I have worked with a few different contractors through my basement reno and Kyle was by far the most professional and easy to work with. Kyle was recommended to me from a friend and I will definitely be recommending him to anyone who needs an electrician.

They charge a $89.95 call out fee for a quote. I am very against this. I want 3-4 quotes per repair or job. If all electricians charged this I'd be out $270-$360 before the work even started. I get time is money but this should be the cost of doing business. There are a lot of good electricians that don't charge for quotes. Also this is nowhere on their site. Not that I could find. Especially on the book a quote page. Nothing. I want to disclose I never used this company as I cancelled the appointment the second they emailed me they charge for quotes. This quote is strictly about communication and business practices. They might do great work...I'll never know.

We are first time home owners and we happen to find this 5 star business and we now have our electrician to call upon for all future projects, Kyle was prompt, friendly and his response time was quick. As well, he was patient to go over all of our questions and ensured we had the answers. Kyle is by far the best electrician I have ever used. Don’t even bother with others. Had other electricians quote us 3 times what he charged. He is honest, courteous, respectful and goes above and beyond to fix all your electrical issues. It was late Nov and our soffit plugs weren’t functioning properly to turn on our Christmas lights - small job, but he went above and beyond - came out after regular business hours in -20 weather, spending over three to four hours in the cold of night trying to solve the problem. Was looking for an electrician to install the electrical for a hot tub. I found this company online and called them based on reviews. I was not disappointed. They were able to schedule me in within a few days, they were friendly, straightforward, and professional. They had to install a subpanel and run cable from the panel to the tub outside. Everything was tidy and cleanly mounted, and out of sight. They included me in decisions when there was more than 1 option. Pricing was certainly fair. I would be happy to recommend them to family and friends, and I will use them again when I need work done.

We have used ‘The Honest Electrician’ in residential for both electrical consultations pre job as well as performing electrical work. We appreciated being able to discuss job scope and hear alternatives that ended up saving money and time. We had a panel installation and electrical system circuits reorganized for panel efficiency. Additionally, ‘The Honest Electrician’ coordinated all the permits and inspections, checked and checked or installed all grounding clamps. Highly recommend this company. They replaced an overhead line between my house and garage with a new underground line and upgraded my ancient garage sub panel. The cost of the job was very competitive compared to other quotes I received. I got a detailed breakdown of the price for each component of the job and there were no surprises during the job. Fraser was great to deal with. The trade name is no lie folks they are exceptionally honest and knowledgeable. We were going to get a fan replaced and Fraser and his team uncovered that the fans we had we actually installed incorrectly. They were thorough and looked at all of the fans in the unit and are coming back to finish the job. They actually reached out to come earlier than planned as they felt bad that we did not have a light in our bedroom for the weekend as a result of them removing a dangerous fan. Excellent service highly recommend.

Kyle was recommended to me by a friend, who told me I couldn't go wrong hiring him to do the service upgrade in my house. When I bought this 1912 house 20 years ago I was told that the wiring was seriously substandard, but it has taken me until now to get it done.
