My twin brother David and I were in Austin recently visiting from California. Over lunch, we heard about AGT through Monica, an incredibly-gifted storyteller in her own right. After about three minutes pondering ghost tours over pasta and meatballs, I looked at David and declared, “Let’s do this! Besides, this isn’t something we'd normally do in a million years. Right?” He simply nodded in the affirmative. And since the wine was flowing, the moon was glowing and it happened to be a Thursday, we attended “Ghosts, Murder and Mayhem,” an all-outdoors adventure in the darkened streets of Austin. Our informed and hardy guide, Stephanie (wearing full period attire from head to ankles), managed to keep our large group together and engaged. We made our way safely around several (long) city blocks as she wove her love of Austin history into tales of the living dead. Stephanie spoke clearly into her portable loudspeaker, showed us digital photos of ghostly people, and kindly answered our questions like a pro. A couple we met from New Jersey, (Joe and Carolyn, very nice people, I might add) confided they habitually ghost-tour on the east coast and are fans of a particular podcast personality. Who knew this was a thing? What’s more…AGT’s key people are published authors on the subject. I ended up acquiring Monica’s book, “True Haunted Tales of the Driskill Hotel.” The book expanded my tour experience with more details, and allowed me to transport Austin’s ghosts back to Fresno to introduce to others. I am glad we went with this walking tour company. We had a great time on Saturday. Monica was our tour guide. She was very professional & knowledgeable. I love her outfit and the hat was pretty, it also was practical since it was easier to see where the guide was while walking through the streets. I like that they were able to tell us "bonus" stories when someone from the group had to take a break & use the restroom. Usually, a walking tour goes on and leaves whoever needs a break. I noticed there were other tours from other companies going on the same day, and they would just mention things and walk past our group really fast. I really liked that Monica had extra info and things like sound recordings & pictures shown to the group. They also wrote the book about the ghost sightings in the Driskill. I think this company doesn't have as good SEO on Google so it shows up a bit lower on the search results, but I'm glad I found them through other good reviews.

I’m only leaving this review so others don’t waste their time or money. While I do appreciate the folks putting on these tours, I unfortunately was Highly disappointed. First off, we are not able to actually explore any of the “Haunted” locations. Only stand outside in the humid Austin heat and listen to long drawn out stories which became extremely boring. I was so looking forward to this experience and so excited to just be let down. I understand covid playing a huge part in this but I wish I’d known ahead of time that it was basically just a history lesson. No actual supernatural or paranormal activity going on. I say this cause I do believe most people think they’re going to experience SOMETHING on a Ghost tour. If you’d like a tiring walk up and down the streets of downtown Austin and a History lesson then fine, this might be for you. If you want to have fun and hunt for ghosts while standing in the very buildings that they dwell in, this ain’t it.

Bug was sweet but you could tell it was her first time on a tour. She forgot the stories and did apologize profusely; however, the nerves really got to her. She shook a lot in the legs and messed with her water bottle a lot making it a little uncomfortable to watch. The walk was a little boring and not scary at all. No opportunities to see “orbs” or view anything remotely haunted, scary, spooky, or anything. The tour seemed like a middle school history tour that was boring and monotone. Half the tour even left in the middle of the walk. I understand it was her first time on a tour but I honestly blame the company. They shouldn’t put unprepared and amateur facilitators on the tour by themselves. I spent a lot of money for a family of 4 and it was a TOTAL waste of money. I would have saved money watching ghost hunters on tv and being more intrigued and entertained. I did not get any money back either. So the comment about “guarantee” is a lie.

We ghosted the ghost tour. I’ve always enjoyed a good ghost story and thought they were very interesting...I guess I was wrong. We did the 8:30 pm tour on November 15 and our group of 12 collectively decided it was better to lose our $300 investment and leave after the first stop than to continue on. No comparison to some of the very good ghost tours in Charleston, New Orleans, and Savannah. Saying there is a ghost named Fred is not a ghost story-give the guy a narrative! Other explanations for people falling down stairs or drinks spilling at a bar: alcohol; people seeing a ghost that looks like a statue? Also probably alcohol. A few interesting historical facts but lacking in story telling. @seanmcleod must’ve been another Sean, on the same tour, who we shared an Uber with when we ghosted the tour. What are the chances?

My son (16) and I visited friends in Austin last week and we all took this tour - it surpassed all expectations! Our ghost tour guide, Amy, was amazing. She was so knowledgeable, patient, animated, and such a good story teller!!! She kept us entertained and captivated. We'd never been on a ghost tour, but I was impressed at how the company had researched to determine historical accuracies. Amy was also encouraging when my son pulled out his ghost equipment, and even took the time at the end to show us some special details at the Driskell Hotel & take pictures for us at the Portrait & Bank Vault. I highly recommend taking this tour! Well worth your time!

I take ghost tours everywhere I go so I've seen the spectrum from super lame to way too realistic. This tour hit the sweet spot right in the middle, thanks in no small part to our guide Monica's clear enthusiasm for and interest in the subject matter. She's been leading ghost tours for 17 years, so this is no side gig. Monica told the stories of several haunted locations, noting which were based on legend and which were culled from Austin Ghost Tours' primary source research. She even busted out photos and audio recovered from her own tours and investigations at historic sights. That kind of thing is right up my alley. Big thanks to Monica for bringing us into her world and sharing some of the unseen activity happening all around historic downtown Austin.

Man oh man! What can I say about my experience on Thursday night’s ghost tour except for I was ready to walk back to my car after the first stop. The only reason I continued the tour was to get my steps in for the day. It was very lackluster and a little ... boring. I’ve been on several ghost tours throughout the country and I have to say, this is by far the least entertaining one. The stories and the photos shown were drier than last years fruit cake. The tour just lacked personality and life, no pun intended. All and all, the highlight of the tour was going home. Next tour will be the Haunted Pub Crawl where I can at least be inibriated to the point that I do not care about losing $25 ‍♂️

Morgan was just awesome! He was there on time and we had a big group (28 people) which he amazingly had a great handle on! My husband and I did this tour as a way to know more about Austin but make it fun and get some sort of exercise in too. The tour was fun as much as it was informative. It wasn't scary so I would agree this is very family friendly though some stories gave me goosebumps LOL. The tour did last what they said it would which was about 90 mins. One thing to mention about Morgan, me being a little deaf, I really enjoyed his tone. At some points I was in the back of the group and I could hear him just fine even with the noises from passing cars/rowdy people. I really appreciated that!

The history was interesting, but we were pretty disappointed. The story telling really dragged on and lost our interest as it went on. We ended up leaving before it was over as watching someone struggle to parallel park kept our attention more than the stories. Amy was our tour guide. We met outside the Driskill Hotel on the 8:30 tour. We booked the reservation under my husbands name. Im not trying to be disrespectful, I think the stories were interesting but they were 2 minute stories told for over 20mins.

Monica was great! It really shows how much she enjoys sharing haunted history! This tour was great for an office outing. We had a group of 19, wanting to do more than the usual happy hour, and this was such a unique activity. Jeanine was also a pleasure to work with and everyone made coordinating this event so easy and fun! Would definitely recommend this tour if you're on the fence!

If you get a chance, TAKE THIS TOUR! The tour guide Maverick has been with the company for 21 years and has this tour set beautifully. He speaks with the knowledge of a native Austinite & the eloquence of a story teller. He commands your attention without feeling bored. The whole time he's talking about people in the late 1800's to early 1900's yet it feels like he's telling you about his personal friends. You will not be disappointed taking this tour.

Toured with Maverick tonight and had a blast! I’m not a native to Austin or even Texas so I loved learning about the history of how Austin came to be whilst also learning about some of the darker and spookier sides. My favorite stories were definitely the hanging tree at the start and the serial killer. Maverick is incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and engaging. My fiancé and I would definitely recommend this tour for a fun date night.

My friend and I ended up having a private tour with Monica and boy did we have fun time! Monica is extremely knowledgeable about Austin's history and had endless stories, photos, and videos to share. She really loves what she does and it shows. This local tour company is the real deal and I totally recommend checking out the downtown ghost tour. Make sure you book with the Original Austin Ghost Tours and not a knock off company.

With all of the entertainment options available, it is hard to know where to spend your time. This tour is the REAL DEAL. Our guide was informative, insightful, full of life, and was without scruples. Story telling: check. Production value: check. Glow sticks: check Ghosts: double check. I would recommend this to anyone who loves the undead, and hates the living. Also, Ashley Creech is #fakenews.

Enjoyed the tour and Amy was a great storyteller. Due to the excessive heat, our tour was adapted to accommodate indoor spaces. So we only made 3 stops. Would prefer more stops and shorter stories, but understand and appreciate the need to be out of the heat.

This was a fabulous experience. I learned more about Austin in one night than in the 20 years of living here combined. It has such a rich history and the tour guide we had shared it so well. It was fun walking around at night, hearing the stories, which were more heartbreaking than scary. (Although going to the bathroom in the Driskill Bar by myself does make me jumpy now!)

We had a wonderful time on our tour with Maverick! We loved the "choose your own adventure" style of the tour that kept us doing what we wanted the entire time. We saw some cool bars and heard some great stories!

This was my wife and I’s first time to Austin so I wanted to find a tour that was both fun and informative (and not on Segways). This was exactly what I was hoping for. Our guide Maverick was great. Learned a lot about different areas of the city and had a lot of fun. Definitely worth the time and very family friendly.

We in town with a friend for a convention and was looking for something to do the night before and stumbled onto this. It was a nice Austin ghost history lesson, but wished we were able to enter and see inside the spots we visited. The guide had some great stories (I believe whose name is Monica).

Loved this so much!!! I will always choose to support a Texas based company. Especially if it’s privately owned. Now on to the good stuff, this was a great experience! Loved the history and the storytelling and the interaction with the group. This was definitely a great family and friend evening!

Tyler was a great tour guide. He did mention how there had been people who came and told stories about whatever they saw, I would love to have those people included the next time. The story about Jack the Ripper was GREAT. Loved all the history and information. It was a great group activity

Tiffany was a wonderful tour guide. We had a small group and she was fun! I would definitely do the tour again with Tiffany. Very informative and she knew a lot of the city's history.

Maverick was a great guide!! Very fun, friendly, informative and funny. I would highly recommend this tour if you love ghost stories and learning about the city of Austin. The tour is also family friendly, as I went with my dad and brother.

Pretty good. I've been on a few around Texas and this one was more history than ghost. The tour guide (maverick??) Was really good at drawing everyone in and seemed to be really knowledgeable about all of the stops.

Monica is a fantastic story teller and ghost aficionado! She will even make sure you aren't followed home by the ghosts you visit. Austin Ghost Tours is a great experience for locals and visitors to the area alike.
