The dentist herself was okay. My problem; however, is the lazy manner in which claims were sent to my dental insurance, GEHA. Dr. McKenzie said I needed a deep cleaning. Okay. We did the deep cleaning, the insurance company rejected the claim saying the Dr. needs to show why it was necessary, provide my documents and images. She didn't provide all three things! They said she could re-submit, she still didn't provide all 3 documents requested! So I had to go through the process of filing an appeal, and while that was still happening (and is still pending bc insurance is slow), she sent my account to collections. This is incredibly harmful in general, and could have been avoided if she and her team were not lazy in their initial submission--especially when Dr. McKenzie told me that a deep cleaning was necessary. If I'd known it would end up like this, I would have done a regular cleaning despite her insisting on the deep cleaning. Lesson learned--make sure your dentist is submitting your information correctly. Dr. McKenzie's team will not.

A wonderful experience for the last few months. Dr Barnes and her staff simply awesome!! Starting with Ms. Pam greeting you at the front desk, efficiently updating records and processing insurance quickly to both dental hygienists expediently and warmly welcoming you back to perform their duties proficiently in clinical examination, cleaning, and imaging when necessary. Then the lady herself approaches with kindness, reassurance and completes the service with a warm smile and addressing any concerns before seeing you off to the checkout desk. I have had necessary interventions which were performed skillfully and without complications, referred when appropriate and enjoy coming to this practice despite nerves in the beginning. A treasured dental practice is an understatement for this gem of a practice successful in DC through the scope of disease and treatments offered. My first visit was great, her staff was very friendly and genuine. Dr. Barnes took the time to explain all her observations and concerns and allowed me to ask as many questions as I wanted. She was very patient and kind. Pam also helped me understand my insurance breakdown and everything! My second visit was for 2 teeth extractions. Firstly, I loved that every staff member remembered my name and my procedure. I was very nervous about the procedure itself and the Octavia and Dr. Barnes were extremely helpful in calming my nerves. Dr. Barnes also explained what to expect and demonstrated which was helpful (for me at least). The procedure didn't take very long and they both made sure I understood all the do's and don't for post care. I also appreciated that the very next day, Dr. Barnes calls me to check in on how I was feeling and if I had any questions. I absolutely love this practice. I plan to share their contact information with everyone! I most definitely recommend.

Family affair at Treasured Pearls - my husband, kids, and I all see Dr. Kari Barnes. She is far and away the best dentist we've ever had. Not only is she an outstanding dentist, but her bedside manner, professionalism, and clear leadership of her team sets her apart. Dr. Barnes is always on time, always provides thorough dentistry services, and does so with a smile. She engages with every patient as though she's a friend and remembers details about each one of us. Beyond Dr. Barnes, her leadership is clearly reflected in the team she's chosen to surround herself. Every one of her team is as nice and professional as the next. They run organized and timely appointments, they have transparent billing practices, and treat each one of us with the genuine kindness and care as Dr. Barnes. I brought both of my girls (1.5 years and 4 years) with me to see Dr. Barnes for dental care. She had activities for the girls and treated the girls with respect and explained things to them at their level. They enjoy the dentist chair experience because of Dr. Barnes ability to connect with them. I also had an appointment and had a full mouth x-ray done by Dr. Barnes. One of the plates that is placed in the mouth was very uncomfortable and she quickly got a different plate and manipulated it so the the edges were soft and not cutting into my mouth. That attention to detail for my comfort is what really made Dr. Barnes shine for me. Excellent service from front desk working with me to schedule my appointment to the individual care from Dr. Barnes keeps me coming back to her as my dentist. Highly recommended!

I found Dr. Barnes through a referral in the spring of 2015 and couldn't be more pleased, and quite honestly, I was impressed from day 1. Dr. Barnes is the most caring dentist that I've had in my entire life (and we're talking a long time here...). She actually called me on her day off to check on a tooth the was giving be trouble and she was genuinely concerned about it. Her professionalism, mannerism, and patience are to be commended. Very professional and friendly dentist and dental staff. The entire visit was pleasant and every member of the staff was courteous. In addition to user friendly online COVID and patient registration forms, we did not have to wait! Teaching throughout the entire visit and all of the staff is knowledgeable. After visiting dentist in Arlington, VA and Rockville, MD, we have found the right practice “Treasured Pearls Dentistry” will be our be our new family dentist. Nice to know people still take pride and time with their work and patient’s.

Recently moved to DC and needed my teeth cleaned by the best of the best. I found Treasured Pearls through Google and the office did not disappoint. The receptionists were friendly over the phone and in person. Octavia, the dental assistant was very friendly, did a wonderful job explaining things and taking my x-rays/photos. Dr. McKenzie was a sweetheart and made my grumpy self extremely comfortable. She also did a wonderful job with my teeth and gave me excellent pointers to help me take better care of them. I had the pleasure of visiting Dr. Kari Barnes for a severely broken tooth ( on taffy). She is so calm and gentle ( I am a bit afraid if the dentist ) and made sure to place a very solid white filling to repair the tooth. Her office has soothing music and the office staff , including her front desk Kathy and assistant were terrific! They all made me feel at calm and at ease... I left the office quickly and happily with a brand new, strong, and beautiful filling. No more taffy for me...even though I would like to visit Dr. Barnes again!

Dr. MacKenzie and the team at Treasured Pearls are amazing! I am really anxious about dental work and dentist visits, but Dr. MacKenzie and Octavia always do a good job putting me at ease and taking care of my teeth. They have also been quickly available for emergency appointments, like when I broke my tooth. I’ve never had any issues with the admin staff and they are always super helpful and friendly. A bunch of my coworkers also love Treasured Pearls since it’s near our office. Can’t recommend them enough!

6 months ago, I had a deep cleaning at another debris office it was horrible and traumatizing. I was in horrendous pain for 5 full days! Needless to say, I was afraid the next time I had to get a cleaning. Dr. McKenzie and her staff were so kind and friendly! She worked quickly, and went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable. If you need a dentist that is competent and kind, she’s it! The best dentist I’ve been to. She also did my crown replacement, and it was actually a very pleasant experience!

Dr. McKenzie is a hidden small business dentistry gem in the city. I've had a lot of dental work done here - crowns, fillings - and she and her staff do a fantastic job at making me feel comfortable and welcome. Dr. McKenzie always takes the time to answer my (many) questions and does not make me feel guilty like other dentists I've seen. Appealing to the human behind the insurance, they even give you a tiny stuffed animal to hold if you feel stressed during dental work.

I'm extremely disappointed with Treasured Pearls. I was with the practice for a couple years and I really liked everyone, Dr. Barnes and all the office staff. Over the past year, they have had issues with office management staff and there was some turnover. That led to billing issues that kept happening over and over. I tried to resolve it many times and never received a call back to try and get them resolved. Finally, I gave up. It just wasn't worth the hassle.

Can’t say enough good things about Dr. Barnes, Ms. Octavia and the rest of the amazing staff at Treasured Pearls Dentistry. They have been my go-to for years. They are so kind and compassionate, funny and encouraging. I never fear going to the dentist anymore. In fact, I always look forward to seeing them.
