"This is the best post office"
"Warning you will need to go through security on the south side (if you come from the north, they’ll make you walk around outside)"
"Took an uber there specially to mail something urgent, because of the reviews that said there were no queues, only to find out it was closed on a Monday! The guards on Turk street entrance were nice enough to let me know that the entrance was from the back side"
"Legit USPS office, with non-sketchy people, and full retail services unlike the really shady pick-up/PO box only one nearby in Tenderloin"
So the post office is located in the basement level of the federal building, which made for an interesting first experience there. While searching on google maps I found location is just a bit closer to my office than the one located at Fox Plaza off Market so I decided to try it out. After removing my shoes, keys, and having my purse scanned I had to walk through a metal detector. The security team was friendly, understanding, and very helpful. It was a short trip down to the basement in the elevator and a somewhat spooky walk to the post office's suite, but once there I found the place empty of other patrons to much of my delight. The woman who helped me behind the counter was warm and informative; she helped me find the best packaging and shipping options for the best price. Even with the added obstacle of the security screening when entering the building I not refuse to use any other post office. Also be aware that this location is only open 1-5 most days.
This is the best post office. Here is the deal. It exists, contrary to some reports. And it is a one person shop, as some have noted. It's in the basement of the federal district court building. So it has one huge plus and three negatives. The huge plus is hardly anybody uses it, so that means even during the holiday rush there is hardly a line (2 people in front of me and a 3 minute wait). The three negatives are: 1. you have to go through security screening 2. the aforementioned one person nature of the operation means there can be a risk of a wait and 3. they take a lunch break
Warning you will need to go through security on the south side (if you come from the north, they’ll make you walk around outside). It’s located in the basement. Another warning is that there is no signal (or Wi-Fi) bc it’s in the basement, so if you need a QR code, take a screenshot of it beforehand. Celipe (I may have gotten the name kind of wrong, but he’s an older gentleman), was very friendly and helpful. There was no wait either! I was in and out in minutes!
Took an uber there specially to mail something urgent, because of the reviews that said there were no queues, only to find out it was closed on a Monday! The guards on Turk street entrance were nice enough to let me know that the entrance was from the back side. The guard on the other side informed me that the post office was closed and he had no idea why. It felt like he almost felt sorry for me. Google hours showed it was open though!
Legit USPS office, with non-sketchy people, and full retail services unlike the really shady pick-up/PO box only one nearby in Tenderloin. Unfortunately it's almost too legit, since it's in a courthouse. You need to go through security and a scanner thing just to enter the building, then go search around the basement (through a very specific elevator) for the USPS office. There's another one nearby that doesn't require this hassle.
How to get inside: - Go to the Phillip Burton Federal Building - Enter from Golden Gate Ave - Present ID and go through security - Immediately on your left there is an elevator to the basement floors - Take elevator to B floor (NOT SB) - Follow the signs, going through the flappy doors - Reach the post office, which is in an office in the basement
Avoid this place. Security is stricter than airport security, save the shoe removal. I went through all that to find no one at the service counter at the post office. No one - at 9:30am on a Thursday. Even security agreed that someone should have been there.
The pleasant experience made going through security worth it. I usually go to the post office closer to market street but today it was REALLY packed so I tried this one. Went about half an hour before closing and there was no wait! Totally worth it.
Downside: it's in a federal building and you basically have to get naked through security and show government-issued ID. Also there's no cell service down there in the post office. Upside: there is no or a short line. Staff were cool.
It does exist. You have to go through Federal building security. Take the Elevator immediately to your left when you get through the metal detectors. Go to the basement, and follow the signs. Note, it doesn't open until 1PM.

Wrong address for this post office. There is a post office hear, but its small(very). There is another one at Hyde and Golden Gate, but with limited services.
Very limited availability. I always have to go to post office 4 blocks further away. The former p.o. at gg and Hyde has been closed for years
