Yesterday Saturday 29th October around 5pm, I witnessed a woman being insulted and loudly verbally abused in front of a shopful of people in Hardware Upper Street. It was extremely unpleasant and unwarranted as the woman had very politely just asked for an item from the man Maurice and he refused to serve her on the grounds that he didn't consider that she is a woman and he doesn't deal with 'her sort' as he rudely described her. This should be reported as a Hate Crime and this man should be prosecuted I'm signing this as an older woman present in the shop at the time of this appalling incidentYou take off reviews you don't like

As a family run locksmith, whenever I am on the road and am found without a part I will always make an effort to purchase from other local small companies rather than lining the pockets of a Screwfix/Toolstation. I called ahead and asked for something specific which I was told they had stock of, so I took a short 5min drive from my job to this establishment, where they kept me waiting for 28 minutes inside the shop, showing me alternatives to something I had asked very specifically for, couldn't wait any longer and left, overall wasting 40minutes of my day. Poor service. Will not be returning.

Be careful, these guys are playing tricks with the goods. Bought a shaver light today, and they said it was LED, however when I got to the job the fit it, there was no bulb in it. When I went back, they then said you have to buy the bulb separate, which they charged a fiver for, and it was not LED. My boss has been in the game for 40 years, and has never bought a shaver light that doesn't come with the bulb. The box it came with was totally un labelled. They are removing the bulbs, and then charging for them.

Had small diy job which was unable to do myself with arthritic hands. Had posted it on the usual trade sites with some hopeless responses, two did not turn up and the rest requested photos and videos of a very simple job. Turned to Upper Street Hardware who turned out to be the best of the best - they gave me an appointment time, turned up on the dot, were courteous, helpful, efficient and did a lovely job. My first port of call from now on. Many thanks to them for being so helpful. Highly recommended.

They truly do have pretty much everything! Great selection of hardware, pots (they have orchid pots for those who are looking), you can also find some threaded rod, PVC pipe, dowels/some timber etc., rope, and gardening supplies too. I will say prices are slightly higher than some other places but definitely worth it for the convenience and helpful staff! Only thing you won't find much of is storage boxes and baskets but those aren't hard to find elsewhere. Would recommend.

Always going out of their way to solve problems for their customer, reasonable price and friendly staffs especialy the owner Kak Ari! The best DIY shop in the area, they have everything you need and you can find things that is not available in the big stores, they have definitely beaten B&Q, Wickes, Sleco and builders depot. Many thanks guys, if there was more than five stars I would have given you 1000 stars for you. You realy deserve it.

Has good stock, but extremely small and cramped inside, making it not covid-safe. This is compounded by the staff not enforcing mask-wearing. Today I was in the shop with somebody not wearing a mask, the staff were literally helping him find stuff on his list while he potentially infected others! Will not be returning, there's a less cramped store down the road opposite the Shell garage.

Unbelievably friendly hardware shop in the heart of Islington that sells DIY do it yourself everything and anything you need! The staff go above and beyond to solve your issue and sell you only the things they need. The shop is deceptively large and stretches backwards with plenty of aisles filled with everything from screws and nails to boutique door handles! Highly recommend.

Great store for curious people! I pestered Donna with millions of questions about power tools and preferences which she gave very good insight for (thanks again). First time I go to a hardware store where they arent rushing you to get what you need and get out lol. Kind and willing to take the time you need so concerns over brands/quality are checked :) Cute entrance too

Excellent shop! Really does have anything, have been several times and they have everything from light fittings, to tiny parts to fix your blinds. Tools, cables, hooks, screws, fluorescent light tubes - they have it all. It's not very well organised or signed mind... but the staff are really kind about pointing things out! Sometimes, they have it in the back too.

  • Tove Diary

Hands down the best local DIY shop you’ll ever find. So many individual parts for all your needs and the best service. I can’t thank you enough - I wouldn’t have been able to fix my toilet or water pipes without your help. I can’t thank you enough!! If only more stores and people where like this in the world!

I have been into Upper Street Hardware several times, they have a great selection of light bulbs, hardware, tools and paint, so you know they will have what you need. It can be a little overwhelming at first because there is so much, but the staff are very knowledgeable and helpful when you approach them.

  • Tired gunnersaurus

Fantastic Job, from a small job to big jobs these guys can do it. Very efficient, very clean and very reliable on timings. I have been using many different building for over 15 years, these guys are my favourite so far. Will recommend them and will use them again for sure.

  • Phil Newman

This is the Aladdins cave of hardware and tools. They have so much here, more than some of the other larger DIY stores. One stop shop for those hard to find connectors and normal items you need for the home. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff.

  • Laura Southerland

This is a great find. I found a good selection of long candles. When I dropped one at the counter and chipped it the shop assistant replaced it immediately with no quibbles. Huge range of products, lovely staff and very good value- recommended!

They say...'if we don't have it...you don't need it'...and they're right !! Comprehensive range of tools and materials. Friendly and helpful staff. Reasonable prices. I have used this store since it opened, and have never been disappointed.

  • Christopher Matthew

Very patient and helpful knowledgable staff who give honest advice (several times they've convinced me to buy a cheaper alternative when I was about to buy something I didn't really need). Extensive stock. So glad it's my local DIY.

  • jraeburnward

Very helpful, honest and reasonable people, saved us from a leak by waiting around for us to come and get valves for our dishwasher at 7pm when they were closing! Thanks so much for your kindness!

They said on the phone that they had a belt sander, but when I got there I found out that was not true. I called to check so that I wouldn't waste time, but that is exactly what they did.

A recently established & very wecome store with extremely obliging staff and enormous stock of products for the care of the home. Their prices are competitive. I wish them well.

  • Anna Wojcik

If you are planning to buy something last minute, make sure you arrive at least 10 mins before closing time. Opening hours should also be updated to 18:55. Disappointed.

  • Johnno Loggie
