TL;DR: -Messed up scheduling; -Long wait time; -Staff repeatedly needed to be told why I was there; -Vet left me waiting in a treatment room and left for lunch; -Staff didn’t apologize at any point for the delay or for me being left in the treatment room; -Charged for a physical I neither asked for or consented to. I've been a loyal Thrive customer for my dog and cat since we moved to Austin, and went to their South First location. I've recommended them to tons of folks. This was my first time at this location and I am SO disappointed. I'll never come back to this location and am considering finding a new vet altogether. I scheduled a heartworm booster for my dog online. Go the confirmation email text. Called this morning to see if I could also get his ears cleaned as well. They tell me they've double booked that slot. I reschedule for an earlier slot and confirm it’s for heartworm booster + ear cleaning. When I arrive I’m kept waiting for 15 minutes as the receptionist checks out another customer. She only acknowledged me once. I’m checked in and the receptionist isn’t clear why I’m there. I reiterate heartworm booster + ear cleaning as scheduled and discussed on the phone. The vet tech comes in. She also doesn't seem to know why I'm there. I confirm I want a heartworm booster and ear cleaning. Dog is taken, gets heartworm booster and ear cleaning. Next two vets come into the room (I assume one was training) and say they're concerned about his teeth. His teeth had been cleaned 8 months ago at another Thrive location, and I ask them to check his records. If his teeth already need cleaning again, clearly he needs some TLC (which I am now still worried about). The vet says she'll go check his records and be right back. Another tech comes into check me out. He tells me my total, and I pay it. I didn't have time to review an itemized statement (nor was it offered) since I’ve been at the vet for over 45 minutes for this point and am trying to contain my squirmy kid and anxious dog. About five minutes later I'm still waiting for the vets to come back and discuss my dog's teeth with me. I see them walk to the front door and say they’re going to lunch. I run to the front desk and tell the receptionist I was waiting for the vets to check my dog’s records and come back to my room, and did they just leave me in the room and leave the building? “Yes, they did.” No apology or explanation. When I got my itemized receipt, I see I've been charged for a physical. At no point did I ask for or consent to a physical. We've been getting the heartworm booster shots for 2 years and never had physical included. If this Thrive location is so careless with their customer service, how am I supposed to trust them with the health of my animals? I don’t and I won’t be back.
TL;DR- I love my dog too much to take her to this office again. Also, dental cleaning quote I got was $400- for a healthy young small dog with no dental issues. There are cheaper/better options in Northwest Austin. I have brought my dog, Koda, here for shots in the past. I brought her in for her scheduled dental cleaning and shared that she had thrown up and been coughing for a couple days. I brought her in so that they could take a look at her and see what could be going on. They said, "Shes OK, we will take her back for surgery" before even seeing her ( I was in the car calling to check-in) I said, "Well no, I am concerned about her respiratory system, she may be sick" and they said "she will be fine" .... So they were willing to put my dog under anesthesia knowing that I was concerned for her health at the time. They said if i was concerned then I should take her to a vet- wait- I thought this was the vet? I asked if the vet could see her and they said no, she doesnt have time-- but I had an dental surgery appt. How does she not have 10 minutes to check on my dog if I had a 2 hour appt? (My guess is that the $400 for surgery wasn't going to come in) So I had to take her elsewhere. On top of everything the front desk was very unprofessional and so was the vet I assume since it starts from the top. No one ever has an answer, they always have to ask someone else- yikes. Come to find out my dog had an esophageal issue and being put under anethesia could have been very dangerous. Thrive is now wanting to charge me another $40 for another dental consultation and told me the prices have gone "up". I had called the Thrive # TWICE and didnt get a call back from the Great Hills office. Must be understaffed- but I don't want my dog at an office that claims to be understaffed and is unresponsive. Sounds dangerous. I don't get how they keep that office going.
I am furious with this location. I have a feral cat that has lived in my backyard for the past year, I've been trying to get an appointment for a check up and I decided to bring her to Thrive where I take our 3 dogs. After repeated calls and emails making sure it was okay to bring a feral cat they assured me they could see her and that it would be no problem. I’d even asked about their flexibility in the event I couldn’t get her there at exactly the appointment time given it depends on what time she shows up. I recall them telling me that scheduling ahead was still better than trying for a walk-in, so I scheduled it and noted on the appointment request that it was for a feral. It took me an hour and a half to trap her for the appointment, and ultimately we arrived to the appointment 15 minutes late (at which point I’m told I’ve “blown past my appointment time”. The vet, Dr. Simpson, refused to see us despite the front desk person going back there to ask multiple times and explaining the situation. I understand I was late but try and have a little compassion and understanding for the situation. I even offered to wait as long as it took for a 15 minute window to open up, but they still wouldn't see me. I wasted an entire day preparing for this appointment and went through hell getting the cat there. I am swearing off this location.
Dr Parson's saw my elderly cat yesterday. She was great and said she would not be in today but another Dr would call with the blood results we are concerned about. Today Dr Smallwood called nine minutes before closing at 6PM and left a message instructing me to call back tomorrow. We called back at 5:57 PM eager to hear the results and were told the Dr would not speak with us this evening. I have a medical background and am capable of reading and interpreting bloodwork results and when I asked if they could e mail them to me for me to review tonight I was told it was against their policy and will have to wait until tomorrow. I am disappointed Dr Smallwood chose to call us within minutes of closing so she could check it off her to do list but had no real intention of speaking with anxious, concerned pet parents. I would hope a veterinarian would have more consideration and compassion for their clients. We spent over $200 for these tests yesterday and I would expect a higher ethical standard of compassion and level of professionalism of a veterinarian and at the very least allow clients to review the tests they paid for immediately.
Would absolutely recommend. They do an awesome job with my feisty, unfriendly chihuahua. They're always quick and on-time when I take her in for nail clippings etc. Yesterday she was exhibiting really scary symptoms of having trouble walking and being lethargic. I was able to get an appointment that day and they were right on time. They always checked with me before doing any tests and let me know price-points, which I really appreciate as someone on a budget! My dog turned out to just be having some spinal/joint pain, but they covered all the bases and tested for lots of things instead of just guessing. They were compassionate, friendly, and nonjudgmental throughout. Dr. Cooper was my vet and I didn't catch the tech's name (shorter brown hair) but they were both AMAZING! The prices here are amazing as well - the cost of the exam, bloodwork, x-rays, and the 3 medications I left with was only $350 altogether. Obviously, not a small amount but way less than I expected, considering I've spent $175 just bringing her to an ER to throw up chocolate before. I love this vet and am so glad they were recommended to me!
Front desk and the technician that helped me out were incredibly professional and seemed to really enjoy their profession. I did have a tough situation with one workers from the back. My father could not take his pet to the vet so I took her for him and they contacted him and not me to explain what their game plan for the pet. Later when I went to go ask for information a lady from the back walked up from and was extremely rude and blew my off by saying “I already spoke to your dad” after I asked for information. Making it sound like I wasn’t worth speaking to. After all I am the one who took the pet there and is currently responsible for the pet at the moment. She then looked at the technician who was helping me out from the beginning and told her to take care of it and walked to the back. The technician and front desk staff were incredibly helpful with explaining everything and getting everything situated . The African American lady who walked off and had a rude attitude does not know how to treat customers.
Your company will have to do better hiring people that actually care for the well-being of the animals that come into the clinic. I had a horrible experience and so did my dog. We took him in for a heartworm exam and he came out with a cut most likely made by the doctor or their two assistants, who tried to blame it on us. shameful and totally unprofessional. I could hear him cry and I could tell he wanted to get away from them; he was so scared that he ended up peeing on himself and hearing one of the assistants say loudly, "That is disgusting"; he is a sweet dog who has never bit anyone or anything before, and still they muzzled him whenever I asked them to be mindful and patient with him, but I think their time was more important and their monetary gain more important than the well-being of my dog. I’m beyond disappointed in the manner in which they treated him and dismissed the things I told them about my dog. We will never come back; this company has to do better. Their actions are extremely repulsive.
I called ahead to let them know that I was running 5 minutes late as a courtesy due to me not being able to find my puppy’s leash. They then told me that if I was any later than 5 minutes that the appointment was cancelled. Due to Austin traffic, I didn’t want to show up and have them deny services due to being a minute or two past the 5 minutes. This was my last set of vaccines for my puppy and when I tried to reschedule, they didn’t were booked for the rest of the month and that they couldn’t book for the next month due to them not having vets lined up. The last set of vaccines are time sensitive and apparently, if I didn’t reschedule soon that would mean that I would have to start the vaccine process all over agains. I was livid. They told us that we could go to a walk in and pay $45 plus the vaccines. All for being 5 minutes late. Not helpful, not accommodating, and apparently not organized either. I’m sorry, but they couldn’t have been more obvious in that they are just trying to get money out of you.
I went in for Vaccination for my cat. The head veterinarian refused to take my pet because she hissed and she didn’t want to come out. I told them she was just a scared cat and not aggressive. I offered to put a full body escape proof vest and leash, as well as a large cone, she still denied me, and was a bit rude. Seemed like she was having a bad day or something. She said it was bc she her nails and the fact she could escape which did not make sense to me. They had full arm covers for this and decided to not use. This was very irritating considering there was no information stating they will refuse cats that don’t want to come out of their kennel. Head veterinary should be used to this. Dealing with cats and dogs is their job. A leash, vest and large cone on a tiny 1 year old cat should have been so able. I needed this vaccine urgently. I will not be going back. I recommend this kind of information & concern be added to your site and noted before booking appointments for your future patients!
Back in February I brought in Vervain, a rescue puppy that had started with a hard life. She was infested with mites, full of worms, and needed so much help. She was balding, covered in bleeding sores, and was uncomfortable with pain. Thrive came to her rescue with more compassion and expertise then I could have expected. Some of the family-like staff I would like to acknowledge consisted of a caring Dr. Simpson and always helpful technician named Mercedes. There were many involved in being so helpful and patient with my sometimes impatient questions and concerns. She needed many different tests, medications and treatments but with all of their efforts; today Vervain is a new dog. She has all of her hair back, tons of esteem back, and is a playful healthy puppy once again! I can’t thank them enough for taking care of my family! Attached are some before and after photos to see the amazing transformation from start to finish of her treatment journey. Thrive will be her vet for life!!!
My biggest beef with Thrive is their $25 head-to-tail inspection. Every visit I was charged this fee, and every visit, they suddenly found something else. My dog was a stray, and one of the first things I had noticed were her insanely dirty ears. Mind you, I forgot to mention it during her first visit and take blame for that, but if they’re as thorough as they say they are with these inspections, it would have been found earlier. No one ever seem to know what was what or spoke confidently about treatments or general advice. Getting her up to date on her shots was a nightmare, and each time I went in, there would be a set that I hadn’t anticipated— despite me asking on the previous visit what I should expect on the next visit. In general, staff and doctors were nice and polite with my dog, but also highly judgmental. I switched to Crestview VC.
Update: Still haven’t been contacted. Don’t trust Dr Simpson with your pet. I used to love Thrive, I even recommend it to all of my family and friends. However, I took my dog in for a UTI test and they popped my dogs hip out of place. Never had a problem with her walking, took her to thrive and the next day she couldn’t walk at all. It’s been a month since this happened, my dog is just now slowly regaining movement. Doctor Simpson confirmed that it “might” have “possibly” been their fault. Apparently they have to flip the pet on their back to take the sample - no one informed me that this could be potentially hazardous. Very unprofessional and I will not be taking my pets back to thrive. They are lucky I’m not taking legal action... Never even got an apology, extremely unprofessional. Not to mention the pain my dog is in!!!! @DrSimpson
My roommate and I got a 2 cats and she registered both when we first got them. She put me on the account as well. The 2nd cat (that was mine) never went there. I tried making an appointment for my cat to get his shots and they sent me to a different location and never notified me and nor gave me information of the actual location when I asked. I made a second appointment and apparently they went off my cats name?? Said that the appointment was made and would contact me after asking for all of my info. I found out that my old roommate got the texts and didn't know what it was for. I called twice to confirm my appointment and the second time I called, they said my roommate had to call and transfer MY cat to me. Then today I called again and they said they canceled and gave my appointment to someone else. THIS STAFF IS NOT HELPFUL!
Dr Simpson and Dr Barker are amazing. So are all the wonderful vet techs. They figured out why my pup was having so much reactive-aggressive behavior. She has hypothyroidism. Despite her issues, she LOVES to go see her friends here (the vets and techs). My other dog is scared of the vet office (past trauma due to abandonment at shelters/other vet offices) but loves seeing everyone there too. He's slowly working past his fears with their help. My only complaint is pricing seems to have gone up a little. Makes it much harder to get them all seen, especially with the hypothyroidism meds needed and COVID currently going on. Despite that, I appreciate how seriously they take safety precautions during this pandemic. As a high risk person (immunocompromised), I feel so much safer with the way they're handling it.
Staff is sweet and caring, but I paid $100 to have a heart worm test sent to the lab in case their in house test was defective and they said my dog was positive from the lab. Then I took him to another clinic to make sure I wouldn’t have to put my dog through the treatment if it wasn’t necessary and he came back negative. I mean no disrespect to the staff, but I’m not going back here. It’s suppose to be low cost, but if I hadn’t gotten a second opinion they were ready to have him receive $500-$1000 treatment that would make him lethargic and sick. It’s suppose to be low cost and I paid more for testing that apparently was inaccurate. I just got my pup tested again at the new facility I go to and he’s still negative, so I don’t know what they use at thrive vet, but it’s not reliable.
Cannot comment on quality or reliability bc not a vet. Value was nowhere near where I was led to expect & general checkup cost more than at local vet. Also, didn’t even bother to give the dog his pill. Will be doing that myself. Person who checked us in was flat out rude to point of insisting on being rude & refusing to listen to what I was trying to tell her.Vet was laughable in referring to my dog in first person plural & not by name or simply “this dog”, “the little guy”, “your pet” etc. Verbose but not informative. Receptionist was very nice & suited to the job. All in all - I will be going elsewhere & you should, too.... if for no other reason than to about that ridiculously rude checks in.ms. Lots of good vets looking fior patients out there.
My dog and I absolutely LOVE thrive. I've been to many vets in my life, and I've never found a vet who loves pets more than Thrive. Every member of their team is SO SO friendly and helpful, and they always try to be as honest and straightforward as possible. For most vets, my chihuahua will try really hard to escape anyone who tries to touch or cuddle her. For Thrive however, she is SO well behaved and lets the workers there cuddle and pet her without resistance despite them being absolute strangers. I personally believe it is because they are all so gentle and sweet that she finds no need to attempt escape. If my dog loves them, then I love them even more. I don't think I want to use any other vet ever again (unless absolutely necessary).
Recently went to get a full work up on my new puppy and had some anxiety on how the whole experience was going to be for the both of us. However Tera was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and welcoming to both me and puppy. She definitely answered both questions I was prepared to ask before asking and questions I hadn’t thought of. Dr. Brunson made the pet visit more personable to take her time to know the story behind how me and puppy crossed paths and how that could affect his current health. Both Tera and Dr. Brunson made sure to keep the floor open for any and all questions including financial. Will definitely recommend this location to other fur parents I know!
It is very difficult to get an appointment there. Especially when your dog falls ill and you need an appointment asap even if you are a current patient. Appointments are 2-3 weeks out and even if you call and tell them the urgency they will only tell you they don't have any appointments. So having a Thrive membership is kind of pointless as you are not saving any money when you have to take you have to take your dog elsewhere. Luckily, I was able to get my dog an appointment at another vet's office, as a new patient and a same day appointment. So preventative care at this vet's office is good as long as you don't need an appointment immediately.
They lied about the cost of the visit. They quoted me a price of $38 for an exam to determine if my pet needs a dental (she does). She recently had her yearly exam at another vet and I gave them her records. When I arrived at the appointment, I was told they increased their prices. Now my "affordable" appt is $47. Oopsie! Sorry we didn't tell you! I asked if they could at least cut my dog's nails since I'm paying extra? Nope. But you can pay $20 for that. "Affordable Vet Care?" BS. My "expensive" boutique vet in south Austin charges just as much -- if not less -- than you. They charge $10 for a nail trim. Never going back and do not recommend.
This is an amazing practice, we have brought our two cats for the last couple of years and the experience is always positive. Their services & packages offer excellent value and the staff is always attentive and professional, kudos to Dr. Simpson as she's great handling cats. There's only a couple of things that I believe could be improved, one is the appointments run a little bit late (around 15 min) and the other is that the waiting area is very small and can only sit 3 or 4 people and their pets. If you are bringing cats I suggest covering their carriers so they don't get spooked by dogs while you are in the waiting area.
Have come here for years since it was thrive. Last visit was pretty unpleasant, lady that came in (not sure if the vet) seemed to have an attitude and told me they can't see him unless he has been sedated because he has anxiety. They wanted to give him something like 16 pills before his visit, we had just brought him to another vet for a consultation to get his teeth cleaned and he did totally fine and didn't even need a muzzle because the vet took time to pet and calm our dog. Will not be returning, just got a bad vibe from the lady that was there and don't trust her with my dog unfortunately.
On November 26, 2018, I took my cat Daphne to your vet clinic as a walk-in. When the 8:15 was a no show, they took her right in. They ran test on her and was told she had liver and kidney failure. When I was told the news, you can tell they care about their patients and their love for animals. Sadly, shortly after she passed away at the vet clinic. They let me spend time with her to say goodbye. Several days , I go pick up her ashes. The cremation package I got was beyond my expectations.. It was at a price lower than expected. Thank you thrive for helping me through a hard time.
Updated August 2022: I previously thought Thrive was fine, but ever since it switched to Vetco, I've been nothing but frustrated. My experience with Vetco has been an absolute nightmare - not only are they deceptive about pricing, but they're not communicative or transparent and withhold important information about your pet's health. Additionally, they lost my and my pet's record and had no explanation for what happened. I'm switching my pet to another veterinary practice in Austin where I know the service and experience will be stellar and highly recommend others do the same.
The techs and vet were great, friendly, and helpful. Your answering service for calling the clinic is the worst--no one calls you back, the operator I spoke with on Friday to ask questions about my vet after my visit was very rude. I was with Thrive because of their affordable fee structure. You have increased the price on everything. Given your horrible phone system (the rudeness) and the shocking price of my last visit, I am going to go back to my old vet, who is now /CHEAPER/ than you. Overall, then: liked the vet and the staff. HATE the new clinic and your business model.
I’ve been bringing my cats to this location since it was Thrive. I recently brought in one of my cats for an exam and routine vaccines. My veterinarian technician, Mercedes, was incredibly kind and helpful and assisted me in applying a coupon to my visit and thoroughly answered all of my questions. It was clear that she cared for my cat and went out of her way to make sure he was comfortable during his visit. They are always efficient in scheduling and rescheduling appointments as needed and provide extraordinary care. Their prices are fair as well!
Every single member of the staff is extremely caring and they make you feel good about being there, doctors are never fun for humans or animals but they really make the atmosphere nice and sincerely care about their patients. I initially thought because it was less expensive than other vets and they share a space with a Petco that it would be impersonal and in and out, I was completely wrong. They take more time to ask the right questions and make my kitty feel comfortable, and are sweeter with my cat than any vet I've had before.
HORRIBLE place and HORRIBLE staff DONT EVEN STEP AT THAT VET CLINIC. I WOULD GIVE 0 STARS. I was late for an appointment because my dog was sick and the one who booked the visit NEVER gave any timeframe. When I arrived they said that I was late that they couldn’t take my pet… ALL STAFF WAS MEAN. NORTH HILLS VETCO IS THE WORSE PLACE FOR YOUR PET, THATS EVIL PLACE!!! A friend of mine used to go to that place and her pet was mistreated but I didn’t know about it, till after telling her what happened to me at that place.
I was 7 mins late to my appointment for a wellness check. I was then told that I missed half of the appointment and that I would have to wait as a walk in for 30mins-2hours. I am fully aware that I was late, but no where on my confirmation email does it say anything about having to reschedule or that I would lose my appointment slot for being late. Oh well! Save your time and save your money, Emancipet is a lot cheaper and they were able to get me in as a walk-in for no more than 30 mins wait time!
My pup gets really nervous any time we visit the Vet’s office! the Vet was very patient with him, sat on the floor with him and waited patiently for him to relax. the Technician was great and so was the main desk staff. They took my pup in last minute here at the great hills location after the location in Brodie cancelled my appointment because i did not confirm via email a new system they have, after showing up with a medicated Pup, they still wouldn’t take my pup, Thanks again Vetco at Great Hills.
Dr Simpson is the greatest vet ever! She takes the best care in the world of my dog. He is a retired service dog and requires special care and attention due to his PTSD. I've had many vets over the years but never been with a vet that cares so much. Not only did she quickly diagnose an issue but also called me regularly to keep me updated and make sure I was on track and understood what we needed to do for my dog and why. Dr. Simpson is the best! Thank you Thrive. Always a great customer experience!
My dog hurt his paw over the weekend and I couldn’t get an appointment with his vet until Friday. They were able to see us the same day. The assistant and veterinarian were very understanding of my concern and obviously cared about my dog being in pain. The vet even looked at some growths I was concerned about which were benign and nothing to worry about. For a same-day appointment, medication, cone, as well as a complimentary nail clipping, it was very reasonably priced. I’ll be going back.
Recently: My dog had a sudden fit of seizures. The vet was very nice and fit us in a the last minute. She made sure his prescription not only fit him, but that it would be manageable for me as well. My dog is reaching the end of his time and she took the time to give me guidance and connect to the hard choices a head of me. Scores based on : Answering questions / bedside manner +1 Cleanliness/ comfort -1 Having owner and pets best interests +1 Subject knowledge +1 Availability and time spent +1
Earlier this year, I was faced with the very difficult decision to euthanize my beloved cat. For those who have experienced this process, you know how heartbreaking it can be. That being said, the staff at THRIVE are extremely compassionate and considerate. Due to the pandemic, many vets would not allow owners to be present during the process, however, THRIVE did. As awful as the experience is, I couldn't have asked for better. The staff even sent me a sympathy card. Cannot thank them enough.
The employees here are super friendly and seem to enjoy their job and that positive energy helps our pups to be super relaxed. We will definitely continue to frequent this location. Update: I updated my rating from a 5 star to a 3, they are never ready for us, we get the same service done regularly and they always make us wait past our appointment time and there are always new people working there so no one is ever prepared. We go in for a tech visit, it's not surgery or anything...
Thrive went above and beyond. First they got me in same day I called because I was worried about my pup. I have been dealing with the same issue for weeks and instead of up selling and making me run all of these test like the other vets did the vet here was very kind and explained what was going on and gave me multiple methods of treatment. I will only be coming back to this vet from now on. They truly are amazing, kind, friendly and all around very enjoyable experience.
Although vet tech Mercedes was caring & knowledgeable, gave good advice & truly seemed to care, Dr Watson was immediately defensive, obdurate and extremely unprofessional in her approach to me, my questions l, my opinion and my puppy. She thinks more of the “Dr” in front of her name than caring for animals. She really blew it, I’ll never go back and you shouldn’t take your precious babies there. She should only work with things that do not have a soul.
Very kind staff! I had a later appointment, but I was able to walk in with questions about a situation with my new puppy. As a new dog owner, I appreciate them so much. They were kind enough to answer all questions and take us in as an emergency walk-in, all while remaining patient, caring, and delivered great service and customer care. If you’re a pet owner, the vital care subscription is worth it, it pays for itself!! It has in our visits at least!
I brought my cat here today for routine vaccines and I just have to comment on how friendly and professional the staff were! Everyone was just so genuine and personable. I wish I could remember names but from the initial phone call to the vet tech to the doctor, I left very happy. My cat is not easy to work with and I delayed this visit for months because I was anxious of how the staff would react. I will definitely be going back to this location.
Run. The vets here don’t listen to pet owners concerns. They speak in circles without answering the questions. They also require 6 month wellness exams instead of annual exams in order for them to prescribe flea medication AND they told me my cats rabies vaccine was expired when it wasn’t - probably just to get more money out of me. Make sure you request and keep all your vet and vax paperwork!!! This place was so much better when it was THRIVE
So our cat was not eating or drinking. They ran blood work and urine. That stretched us to the limit finaically. He started eating and drinking. So we came to drop of urine sample. Before discussing care or prices. They took our cat in back and put a catheter in him without discussing cost or without our approval. Then stuck us with the bill. This vet is cheap but its shady practices when thier website claims they run everything by you.
In my opinion the best place to take your fur baby . I went to 2 emergency vet clinics with no help at all. But the emergency vet hospitals were ready to take my money and not take proper care of my furry friend. I would recommend Thrive Affordable Vet Care be your first stop when you want the best care for your fur baby. Thanks to Dr.Smallwood and her very friendly and professional staff. SiSi is doing just fine .
Dr. Jones and Kamryn, one of the Vet Techs, were professional, courteous and personable. They made an effort to get to know me and my two dogs. They were upfront about options and pricing - which is greatly appreciated when you’ve been to other clinics who may charge you fees for things you didn’t know about. I left with a feeling of satisfaction because my pets are in good hands at Thrive. Thank you, Dr. Jones and Kamryn!
Loved me visit. Went in looking to learn how to care for our new turtle and relieved so much knowledge needed. I love love love the Tourtioisse they have as their pet mascot . The associates were so helpful and patient with us. The genuinely care about animal and make sure that animal owners know what they are doing and putting animals first.. will never need Pet Smart again, vetco is so much more personal and enjoyably
I want to start by saying I have been to many different vets because I have never had a great vet experience. Terra was amazing!! She was very personable and made this visit a breeze. The vet herself was amazing!! She answered all of my questions and was very knowledgeable and transparent. This visit was 1/3 of the price of my last visit to a local vet and had even better customer service. I definitely recommend!!
I had to put my cat down and they were very understanding and let us know our options in case we wanted to think it over. They were very sweet and explained every process/step and let us stay with our cat until we were ready to leave. They made us feel comfortable and I was a little surprised we were let in due to COVID. I thank them for how kind they were to us during a hard and difficult time.
I will always drive 45 minutes just to take my Cat here! He hisses a lot and is difficult to deal with, but Mercedes was excellent with him and soo sweet! You can tell she loves what she does. Dr. Simpson was great as well and did everything she could to calm him and make him comfortable! The other Thrive locations are horrible so don't waste your time. Go here, this one is beyond great!
My pets love the doctors at Thrive. The staff is always friendly and helpful. I do have one beef, though. I got 6 pills of Tazadone for my dog for $10 plus tax. These pills sell online pet pharmacies for 10 cents each. The mark up is criminal. Other than that, Thrive is fabulous and we love Dr. Simpson. I know the drug prices are set by corporate, nit each clinic. Criminal upcharge.
Staff is friendly and personable but the prices they advertise online are not accurate. My dog received just two vaccines, Bordetella and DHLPP, and a heartworm test. I was charged $113, which also included a $30 "physical exam" that I did not agree to. Seems a little ridiculous to advertise an $89 complete care package that includes even more than what I was charged $113 for.
They are more expensive than my old Veterinary. They do take care of the animals pretty well which is why they get 3 stars. The customer service on the phone and in person could be better. Waiting for a call back from them takes longer than it should. Oh and NEVER spend the price they have you pay for spay/neuter... A lot of other places do it for WAY less than here.
UPDATE:My interactions with the staff have all been professional and the services were exceptional but two out of three appointments I've booked in the past 2 months are deleted from the system or never registered. After having the scheduling issue the thrive team made time available within an hour and was able to see my pet and provide excellent care once again
I made an appointment weeks ago on the app and even received reminder texts only to arrive and see this location has been closed since October 9th. There is no customer service number to contact. Petco has lost my business. The app still allows you to make appointments to this location, but it is closed. Super frustrating to wait weeks to get meds for nothing!
I love this Thrive location. The care team genuinely cares for me as a pet owner and about my 5 pound Chihuahua, who is very nervous about going to the vet. Due to COVID, I wasn't able to go in with her when she got her most recent vaccinations, but I could tell she got great care when she came out by her demeanor (even though she got stuck by needles!)
I had to take both of my cats in for their annual oil change and lube job. This vet does mainly wellness care. They are good and efficient at what the do. My cats are a 9 year old girl and 14 year old elder gentleman. In this case, after checking then, the vet came and suggested some blood work for the boy. They also provided the annual shots.
First time here and planning on coming back. Super easy to book appointments. I was worried that due to COVID-19 I won't be able to go inside with my cat who is very anxious but they made me feel very comfortable by calling me while she was inside and updating on what's going on and what needs to be done. Definitely great and affordable place!
I have taken my cat here twice, all technicians have been super sweet. And very efficient. The only thing that I say it’s kind of upsetting is the price for the care, however it kind of washes out with the service and the professionalism of the staff. So I think it’s totally worth it. I will def bring my baby here for his shots every year!
Staff was excellent and the dr too. I appreciate a thorough explanation of what’s going on with my dog and that’s with the doctor did and I’m very grateful. I was a little bit taking it back with the price is considering I am a I am a vital care client. Other than that everything was great. Thank you so much for taking care of my pet
This place is horrible. I was a few minutes late and the girl (Brittany) at the front desk here at the Great Hills office said I had to reschedule. 4 mins late. I did tell her that it was only 4 mins and asked her if she was willing to lose a sale for 4 minutes.she just smiled at me and said she didn't care. DO NOT GO HERE.
Service was great and affordable. I've been quoted extremely ridiculous estimates from privately owned veterinarian clinics that would've put a dent in my bank account. Thrive was able to do the same service for my cat at a fraction on the price. Thank you so much Dr. Parsons!!! I will no longer take my cat anywhere else.
Brought in Turbo, our sweet girl who has extreme anxiety towards getting her nails trimmed. Jenny and Deanna spent over an hour just to make sure Turbo was safe and didn't get traumatized. We were able to get her nails done and i couldn't be more greatful towards everyone who helped in the process. Definitely recommend!!
Great customer service! I took my cat here on a Saturday for a last minute vaccinations and they were super helpful and accommodating. If you sign up for their wellness plan it’s only $10 a month and you never have to pay an exam fee when you come in! I called around and they are the most affordable vet care I’ve found.
Just got back from Thrive with my old dog. The vet and techs were great with him. Got him a heartworm test, he was negative! And got a quote for a dental cleaning. The atmosphere is relaxed and not at all feeling like I have to buy certain things or spend extra on fancy dog foods. Thanks for being so affordable!
They draw you into signing up for memberships, but then everyone has a membership and you can't get your pet in for a medical problem less than a month out on an appointment. What's the point of having a membership if it's impossible to get your pet seen for a problem? It's a monthly payment for nothing.
This place is for regular checkups and shots only. More often than not, there is a two to three month long wait to get your pet looked at, ,so urgent care simply isn't available here. They have a nice monthly payment plan but it doesn't work because you can't get a timely appointment when a pet is sick.
The service provided at this north Austin location was great! They took great care of my baby girl Chikis. I've gone to different Thrive locations in Austin area, all have been great. They even accommodated last minute nail trim on my two girls during this last visit. Totally recommended!
I have a sick dog who needs an appointment ASAP. I was quoted for 4/2 as the earliest day my dog could receive treatment. However, if I need to schedule a wellness appointment, there are 3 timeframes on Monday 3/30, 5 openings on 3/31 & 4 openings on 4/1! Inexplicable to me.
Good vet care but for all the signage about being "affordable" their prices are not great. Also the call center is horrible. Language barriers and it sounds like they are working out of their house as it's on the road. Kinda frustrating when you have an urgent need.
Dr. Simpson and her team are awesome. I had to make the hard decision to euthanize my 15 y/o pomeranian who had multiple health issues. They really made the whole process comfortable, they were very caring and compassionate. Thank you for making Sparky comfortable!
It’s always a great experience! They are very nice and friendly. Check out process is easy and quick. Dr. Sylvalyn Simpson Is great!!! She takes good care of her patients! I wouldn’t change this place and I definitely recommend it 100% my dog loves going there!
Tara and Dr. Parsons were personable, patient, and knowledgeable with our questions and concerns about our senior dog. I appreciated how much they genuinely cared about my dog! Very reasonable prices as well! Definitely recommend if you live in North Austin!
They were super friendly even when my dog had an accident EVERYWHERE. The prices are super affordable and they went over the treatment with me thoroughly to where I understood completely. I’ll be bringing my dog back to this location every time it’s needed!
Very kind people and took great care of my cat after checking him over! They were very informative about other medications I should be aware of with my cat that may be helpful and other care tips. They really care about their patients and are very kind!
Great staff. Had 2 separate appointments on different days for my dogs. Took both in to one of their appointments and they were able to fit in my other dog. Loved that they give you everything itemized by cost before you say yes. Love it! No surprises.
BEST service ever!!! Dr. Simpson and Tera were so knowledgeable and friendly. I have been using the same vet for 19 years and am so happy I made a change!! Thank you for all the time and care you gave to my fur baby!! I will DEFINITELY be back!!!
The vet tech as well as the vet were very friendly and made my puppy feel very comfortable. She didn’t even cry from her vaccinations (which she did at a different vet clinic). We were very happy with the service, cleanliness, and kindness here.
I'm so impressed with the Veterinarians and staff at this Vetco. They also had the results of my dog's blood work the next day. I really appreciate you caring for my dog, and she didn't even seem anxious after her visit which is not like her.
They take great care of my pup. When I could only provide vague symptoms, it only took them two tests to catch a serious issue. They recommended us to a specialist and helped save her life. They also answered my hundreds of post op questions.
Dr. Barker is the bomb! She is fast but through & Matt is a great technician. They take GREAT care of my babies! Make sure you see her, she's smart and diagnosed my little with a rare condition. Always helpful, love them!
Good price on pet medication, waited 2 days after refill approval. Due to other people prescriptions not being p/u. They don't fill until you arrive. I can relate to temp meds. Mine are permanent, due to her pain issues.
This place was AWESOME! Tera the nurse was very knowledgeable. They gave us all the information we needed and even gave us a unprecedented discount! Thank you so much for the quality care and service for Diamond. …
Dr. Parson was great! She was very upfront about costs and even worked with me to find the best price for meds. Appointment was quick, communication was thorough, and everyone was so kind to my two crazy corgis.
They saved my babies life. Very grateful. Came in for a possible pyometra and was able to get her in for immediate surgery. A little over week later and she completely back to normal. Thank you so much Thrive.
Lisa P & Dr.Simpson at the great hills trail location were so much more than we could ask for! They did such a great job for our pup & we look forward to seeing them again soon for his dental work!
Sooo great! They took great care of my pup! Checked up on the urgent issue I brought him in for, and even went above & beyond to administer an updated vaccine and flea/tick/heartworm prevention.
Easy, reasonable vet. My cats hate riding in the car and are always so anxious by the time they get to the vet. They do an awesome on of calming my cats down and giving them a thorough exam.
Finally found a great doctor for Marvin. Dr Melissa and the staff were attentive, professional, and caring. They listened to my concerns and took great care of Marvin. Thank you!
Efficient, transparent, overall pleasant. Especially for my dog who is an anxious and squirrelly dog. They handled him well and communicated all the important info clearly.
They were so good with my nervous dog. They were caring and patient. A great check-up experience.
Everyone there is great and helpful. They know what they're doing and they're very quick at it!!
Kailana's visit went well and we were able to get medications for her eyes and skin allergy.
