In short: vet who appeared to be the owner of the clinic and of the Nepean Animal Hospital, exaggerated my dog's condition to try to get us to fork out thousands unnecessarily. Got a second opinion from another vet who diagnosed our dog as having a much less severe condition (which turned out to be true and her condition resolved shortly after). In long: My dog was having GI symptoms, and since it was a Saturday, Blaxland Mountain Hospital was the only nearby vet open. The vet who saw us, when we discussed the consultation afterward, was misleading and in fact made our dog cry out in pain twice to make us think her condition was worse than it was. 1st time: he was feeling her abdomen and squeezed her very hard (when my partner and I did the same, firmly, she showed no pain or even discomfort). 2nd time: the vet inserted the rectal thermometer much too far in (the next vet we saw inserted only the metal tip, whereas this vet put about 2 inches in, including the plastic casing. At the time I found it odd that, of all the dozens of vets I've seen in my life, he seemed overly affectionate to my dog, whereas most, while compassionate, keep their distance. When I cooed a soothing name to my dog after she squealed in pain, he did the same, likely to appease me and seem caring. This among other things made us think he was trying to manipulate us. He said it was likely a foreign body obstruction (something she'd eaten, though she was passing gas and was defacating often) or pancreatitis (no other symptoms than GI, normally with this condition there would be severe lethargy, as my partner pointed out). He was hesitant to suggest it was doggy gastro based on the fact that she had 'abdominal pain' - which she didn't, he merely squeezed her too hard. His recommendations was overnight observation at Nepean Animal Hospital, multiple blood tests and at least 3 x-rays. This would have cost us thousands. Judging by the watch and shoes he was wearing (my partner noticed this, at the time I didn't), this man wasn't struggling to feed his family. The treatments he was suggesting would have been completely unnecessary, beside the fact that our dog who we love more than anything would have been in the care of a man who obviously was more concerned for money than this animal's wellbeing. We were so furious when we realised all of this. He likely sized us up as having money as our dog is a more expensive breed, and she has a nice harness and leash, and wanted to take advantage of our love and care for her. Absolutely shocking for someone who you're supposed to trust with your pet. When my partner picked up that something was fishy, he told the vet we would be going elsewhere to get a second opinion. This is when the vet crossed his arms and his smile became very forced. This was the nail in the coffin - had his diagnosis been accurate, he would have had no issue with us seeing another vet to confirm it. We specified that if they confirmed, we would come back and follow his recommendation. He'd been caught and he knew it. While I realise this is only our experience, it was horrible enough to warrant a warning for other pet owners. I will never go back here and strongly advise others to avoid this place at all costs. I am willing to fill in any details to verify this experience. I was so furious yet so relieved that my partner picked up on this all before we left our dog in his care. I can't put into words how furious we were. Never again.

Where do I start !! Firstand foremost I want to give the biggest accolades of thanks, praise and appreciation to Claire and Jess. Claire is my earth Angel that looks after my fur baby dog Mischa at Blaxland. Claire is so professional, compassionate, caring and knowledgeable and I could go on and on with everything she does for Mischa and myself. Well Pet Vets are so fortunate to have such an amazing vet nurse being Claire who works at the Blaxland practice. Jess is another earth Angel that looked after Mischa before Clair. Jess moved down to the Penrith practice and Claire took over the care of Mischa. Jess has all the amazing qualities that Claire has and I feel so safe, reassured and totally at ease leaving my fur baby in their incredibly capable hands. Both these beautiful young women inside and out go above and beyond with their duty of care for their patients and their owners. Thank you is so easy to say but I love my fur baby so much and my fur baby loves both these amazing vet nurses. I will forever be grateful for the care over the years that both these vet nurses have given my fur baby and myself. CLAIRE AND JESS YOU ARE LEGENDS.

This used to be a good vet, when it was run by local people, but it isn’t any more. I have taken three different pets there over a period of about 15 years, but I am reluctant to go back there now. It has been taken over by a business conglomerate called WellPet and has been steadily declining in terms of service quality since then. To call it a hospital is very optimistic, since it is a Penrith-based vet with the Blaxland premises left unattended for long periods of time with boarding pets inside, the sign outside says it is open on Sunday morning until noon, but it isn’t, and the emergency number given goes straight to voicemail, which is not much help in an emergency. In other words, the lights are on but there is nobody at home. The young women sometimes in attendance are personable enough and seem to like animals, but there does not appear to be a consistent level of training evident above a fairly basic level. On the plus side, they will take stray animals in if you find them wandering the streets, but then again any vet in NSW will do the same.

A few days ago, our beloved dog of 16 years who was very old, declined suddenly. We knew we would face this day, but its the first time in our family to have a pet pass away - Our local vet could not fit us in and I called Wellpets. Dunya took my call, she fit us in, she explained so well, was ver compassionate and patient - We went in the next day and the team were understanding and considered as my hubby and 2 daughters blubbed as said goodbye to Lucky. Today so 5 days later, we have received a hand written condolence card, and Luckys paw prints which we didnt know was coming, along with a seed card to plant. It was so unexpected and appreciated and Ive jumped on here to give them 5 stars and we will be chan ging vets moving forward - thank you so so much. I'm a small business coach and connector so this impressed me so much - well done I will be sharing with my community - Andrea Turner-Boys Women with Altitude

Avoid like the plague. Practice seems to be glorified kennels with FIFO vet occasionally. Junior nurses seem to be in charge, no practice manager not in another office, Dr Yap supposed to be in charge per NSW Vet Practice Board but unknown per their website. Very junior vet managed to rip out virtually every tooth in my elderly dog without slightest attempt to phone me for prior approval (which I would never have given). Thanks to them he is now not eating or drinking & refusing water & meds. To top it off we got booted out (late of course) @ 5.30pm without ever seeing the responsible "compassionate professional" despite spending 1,000 dollars at this miserable place. CEO Karolis missing in action re my complaint. If you enjoy butcher shops then go.

Asked specifically when booking if there was an oral treatment for ringworm in cat. Told yes. Get to appointment and the vet indicated they cannot prescribe oral treatment for a cat and essentially it must be my poor standards of housekeeping. The cat came from RSPCA with the infection. Paid for the privilege of being told opposite of what I asked when booking and buying shampoos that can be bought over the counter. Very disappointed. I used to go to this practice many years ago when privately owned and the vets were at least more tactful and would not book appointments when clearly not needed.

Pretty disappointed. Had the vet treating my dog for dry skin and I also mentioned he had dry eye previously diagnosed and needed drops. The vet told me to come back in 2 weeks for a second consultation even though he commented that he could see he was suffering from it- refused to issue the drops for him. Instead, I went to another vet, did a 2 minute test for $18, and issued the medication, except now had to pay for another consultation (another $100). Seems like just looking for second appointment.

We took our Jack Russell to Dr Yap as he had a bacterial infection and was very unwell. Luckily there was a cancellation on the day and they could accomodate quickly. I found Dr Yap to be be extremely knowledgeable, honest, and thorough and we are very happy with his workup and services. Our dog has since had long overdue dental work at this clinic with great results. The nurses and admin are also very friendly. Highly recommended!.

Amazing customer service, the practice manager is such a sweetheart and very understanding of my dog. I recommended their pet hotel to a family friend and their dogs had an amazing time. Very caring and understanding when their 2 little ones have strict dietry requirements. Contacted them with updates. The vets are lovely and took their time with my dog who has really bad anxiety, they got to know him and let him trust them.

Such a bad experience boarding my dog there this time. They put on a good act about caring for your animals but really don't at all. My dog stayed 3 days. She went in healthy, happy and confident and came out scared of everyone including us and was injured. She was suppose to be housed alone with our other dog. I don't think she was. Please don't board your dogs here. I would hate this to happen to anyone else.

I have been told in the past about my dogs dental health but it always felt like a sales pitch or a lecture. Dr Ben was so thorough and thoughtful in his explanation about my dogs teeth that I booked the treatment straight away. I felt confident and comfortable with decisions made by the team at Wellpet Vets.

  • Yrsa Forde

Excellent, friendly service, very, very thorough and professional vet. I came in for a consultation with our dog and the vet (Jonathon) spent a full hour examining him. Have never received this level of service with any other vet. Would recommend to anyone and will definitely be going back here in the future.

We have a cat that has a very difficult diet because of extreme allergy problems and this was not a problem at all for boarding her. I don't think our kitty missed us at all. Will be more than happy to board her here again. Staff exceptional.

  • Nora Szopory

We boarded our dog there for a week, when we picked him up, he was happy, clean and in very good condition. The fact that it was a veterinary hospital meant peace of mind . We are considering taking our dog there next year too.

  • Jamie Rebecca Burgess

The pet hotel was nice enough, but they could not locate our dog's blanket which we left with her. When we chased it up we were promised it would be sent back in the mail, but it never was. So, average customer service.

  • Celena Colless

I have been going to this clinic for 30 years and I have always been unbelievably impressed with their kindness and dedication. Would never consider any other vet and I will continue to take all my animals there.
