"Whitemud ravine is a great place for quiet walks"
"Summer or winter, this is a wonderful little gem of a park for all ages"
"I absolutely love this park because this is the place to find squirrels"
Beautiful, spacious, and tons of picnic spots. The only, and big, downside of this location is that it's pretty much wedged up against the north east intersection of Fox Drive and Whitemud Drive, next to Quesnell Bridge... So it's not a really a quiet park. But the great thing about this versatile park is that it's connected to the northern trailhead for the Whitemud creek/valley trail and park system. Which is Edmonton's greatest and super ecologically diverse trail system. With just a five minute walk into the valley trail, starting from Whitemud park, you will have to keep on reminding yourself that you are still in Edmonton, or any city for that matter. Whitemud creek/valley is absolutely stunning. So if Whitemud park is too loud with vehicle traffic for your personal tastes, then just take a few minutes to walk up into the trail entrance and be prepared to feel like you've been magically transported directly into a wonderfully thick and far away wilderness!
This is a great place for walking. You can park before you get to the Snow Valley ski area and there is plenty of space there. Then head off into the walking/hiking area onto well-marked trails that make you feel like you’ve left the city! Trails are dirt but groomed in winter and summer for easy hiking. They recently completed a new bridge over the creek, no more stairs so more accessible for people that may have mobility issues. Fun for all ages and a get away for good exercise in the middle of the city! Check it out!
Whitemud ravine is a great place for quiet walks. Being a nature reserve there are no bikes and no off-leash dogs. On a mountain bike it is possible to skirt the East side of the ravine (see TrailForks) if you need to get through the ravine without walking the whole way. Also nice to have full amenities including parking at the North end. Usually fairly quiet. If looking for long stairs to run there is a set leading up to Grandview Heights (spacing is really nice on the bottom third, the rest are a bit small/tight).
Summer or winter, this is a wonderful little gem of a park for all ages. In the winter, there is a sliding hill accessible through a path that goes under the road along the river. It as everything you could want, river, trees, wildlife and interesting birds including woodpeckers, accessible washrooms and picnic areas with lots with bbq, open grassy are that provides room to play games and run around and paths to walk. You forget you are in the city!
I absolutely love this park because this is the place to find squirrels. And I love taking photos and videos of squirrels. Whitemud Creek is a nice thick stream that flows through Whitemud Park with trails along side. While walking along the trails there are a few nice bridges to cross and you will see nice sandy cliffs along the way. The trails are nice and wide enough. And it makes for a good 30 minute walk at a fast pace through many trees.
This is a beautiful place to come for a family walk, either in the summer or the winter. Summertime is really nice to pack a picnic and spend a few hours touring the river and taking in the views. Wintertime is nice as well, as long as the kids can keep up. Be care on the paths with the little kids as the paths as shared with bikers and they do come by frequently and the kids have no concept of sharing the path lol.
The city of edmonton really needs to do maintenance/grader work to the gravel roads and parking lots as there are massive holes and bumps to drive over. It would also be a great idea to reset the round fire pits as they are extremely out of level and add some high heat grease to the cooking grille pivot points as those are bound right up and you have to use your foot to actually rotate them over top of the fire.
While not without its charms... This park is located in the river valley near the intersection of two multi-lane thoroughfares. The presence of speeding cars does diminish the quality of the experience of sitting in front of the campfire in the woods. That being said, today I drove across the city to do that very thing. BTW, the parking lots are much too narrow and accommodate too few cars and trucks. Have fun!
One of the best parks in the city if you're looking for quiet wilderness. The trails are well maintained, no garbage anywhere and generally it's quiet and peaceful. There's a recreation centre with rec rooms and clean public bathrooms. The trails are fantastic for walks or runs and there's open spaces for pucbics or to throw a frisbee. If you want to leave town without leaving town, this place is for you.
Always a delight, although possibly one of the busiest nature parks. This park offers bird watching events, children come here to learn, photographers use it for weddings and portraits, and more. Even better, it is FULL of wildlife. Tons of species of birds, beaver love the place, you might glimpse the odd fox or deer. An odd place since it is surrounded by city life.
I came across this park by accident but I'm glad I did. A couple of areas with tables for picnics. Didn't get the chance to walk around much as we were just looking for a spot to have lunch. Definitely will go back and hit up a trail n enjoy the scenery on our walk, all around the riverside and across a couple of cool bridges too. Lovely little area.
Beautiful park with a lot of picnic tables and a long walking trail. Plenty of space for sports or campfires. Lots of wildlife and bridges to explore. Very busy during the summer days.
Restrooms
One big building for restrooms. Well maintained.
Picnic area
Lots of fire pits/grills and picnic tables. Bring your own seating for some areas.
Whitemud park is a gem in the city. Great place to sled with your kids in the winter. There are quite a few beautiful trails in the area for walking, jogging and simply enjoying nature. You will see quite a few people in this area that are into photographing birds and wild life in general as this is a great sanctuary for them.
Amazing trail for bikers and walking. Full up with lush green trees both sides of trail with mesmerizing sound of river flowing right next. Kids love it also some great spots for picnic. Have seen many families doing bbq. A must visit experience to calm and peaceful environment in the lap of nature around.
A bit of wild in the heart of the city of Edmonton. A long path along the Whitemud creek that meanders it's way to the north Saskatchewan. Take the path either way, from its outflow, or further upstream. Parking and access at either end as well as along the way. A beautiful walk, no matter what the season
Summer or winter, be it a relaxing walk with family or preparing for a marathon, Whitemud park has something to offer for everyone. Fairly even terrain, you can run along the river and head to the silver balls. Plenty of parking. Best of it, clean bathrooms near the entrance parking, solar powered!
Awesome location for a hike, bike, walk. Great for sledding for the kids. Beautiful scenery and spot across the river on the south side. Great for pets as well as long as you keep them on leash. There were fire pits, and barbecue areas as well, public washrooms were clean and well maintained.
Feels like you are so far out of the city. A very beautiful park in all seasons. I like the south part of the ravine more, but both are great ways to reset from urban life. Guaranteed to see lots of squirrels and neat birds... might just be one of the best natural parks in the city.
Wonderful complex of trails through the Edmonton river valley. This gem is truly my favorite part of the city. For a short walk, or an all day affair, this is perfect for a piece of nature. For more structured playgrounds for younger kids, the area near Kinsmen is most appropriate.
A great place to go for a picnic, in spring and fall you might just be able to catch a fish here too... Often lots of anglers can be found fishing either whitemud creek or the north saskatchewan river. This place has some fields, picnic tables, walking trails, and fire pits.
Nice place to enjoy nature with frends and family. Pets, kids, older folks- evryone will have good view of the river, green grass and wind in the tree leaves. You will be happy and relaxed after the visit. Parking and washrooms avialable also. Highly recommend! …
Amazing for Runners, Bicycle riders and view finders. Lots of Wild roses as the they say wild rose country Stunning for evening relaxation and may be a walk of peace... This bridge is part of an adventurous trail. To conclude it all The view of sunset
Great access to the trails and to the river valley. Alfred Savage Centre has washrooms and a warm up room. Can be booked with the City for events. Stairs for stair workouts. A few kilometers on the wide trails to the ski hill and campground and Fort Edmonton.
Lovely park. A great place to connect with nature, enjoy fresh air, run and hike. Lots of parking space for everyone, washroom and spaces for family picnic and relaxation. They have a stairs that is very good for exercise and green space in a nice terrain.
I absolutely love Whitemud park. It’s the perfect spot for relaxing walking around the trails but I mostly go to do photography. Is one of my to go spots with Bridal Parties and families. So many beautiful corners and backdrops for photos year round!
Natural beauty abounds in the middle of the city. Also has a tobagganing hill and lots of other things to do outdoors. The pathways are well maintained. Higher traffic than i would have thought but every one is nice and friendly on the trail.
Great accessible trails, we took our 2yr old grandson...he was so excited to see the creek from the bridge. It would be nice if there was the odd bench along the paths made from some of the large fallen trees. Thoroughly enjoyed our walk.
Great little place! One side has a on road only trail and the other side has more of a make your own trail. I spent 3 hours here nearly getting lost off trail lol definitely worth the trip. The stairs are a good morning workout!
Still one of the Best parks to walk in the morning within Edmonton. Came across this little tree all dressed up from Christmas. Where else could you find a prize like this with all the wildlife that the woods have to offer?
Another of the great trails within the city of Edmonton. Follows the Whitemud creek to the North Saskatchewan River. Excellent scenic trail that can be followed North to Fox Drive. Nice leisurely 6.5 km hike there and back.
The trail is perfect for a stroller, no stairs or weird obstacles. The tall trees kept everyone cool, but let just the right amout of sunlight through. There's just enough markers and signs to keep kids entertained too.
Amazing experience with my family. One issue was that there were two motorcyclists who were taking down a fence placed for safety precautions on the red bridge where the 53rd ave sign was. Please be careful and aware.
A very natural and easy hiking path in the city. You can park your car with free at the north beginning point, that is the entrance of Whitemud Park. Good place to hang out with your family or walking with your dog.
As with most parks in Edmonton, this one is great. I haven't checked out the park in it's entirety but from what I've seen it's great. There's access to the North Saskatchewan River from here. Picturesque scenery.
A very natural and easy hiking path in the city. You can park your car with free at the north beginning point that is the entrance of Whitemud Park Good place to hang out with your family or walking with your dog
It’s a very beautiful place it’s very scenic.good fishing.we saw an otter (or a beaver) in the lake , my grandma said she saw a crocodile. We found a few trails they were really nice.So its a pretty good place.
Very quite and awesome place to chill out with family. Also it gives a bit of information about the nature. In sunny days it will be definitely a good idea to visit the park. Good for explorers.
Some of the trails are closed for safety, but still a great walk, and pretty active lately, as people are trying to get some outdoor enjoyment. Lots of wildlife to admire.
Went there in the morning.. it was nice area to walk,, lanes are wide enough to share with cyclists and kids can learn how to bike without blocking the lane or path way.
Amazing place to walk. Run. Bike. Crawl lol bring water. And dont forget the snacks. Bring a blanket and have a picnic. I think you could have a photo shoot too..
Whitemud Park was quiet, had a pleasant atmosphere, our family had a great outing the day we went. Nice nature trails, and excellent fishing spots by the river.
Super nice park in Edmonton close to the whitemud and snow valley ski hill. Camping available here and it’s almost as if you are not in Edmonton anymore.
Very nice park. Good walking trails and bridges, bathrooms and garbage bins. Lots of firepits but only a few that aren't the small cooking/frying ones
Beautiful walking trails. One of my favourite places in the city! Lots to explore! Ample parking and access to washrooms. Great for pups and/or kids.
Beautiful area with well maintained trails for nature walks, runs, etc. It was a secluded area with lots of vegetation, trees and birds all around.
Great trail to explore. Lots of trees. Chipmunks are all over the place. I love the water flowing from the creek and breezing sound of the leaves.
***Still a fave! Come here for the trails, easy access to Terwillegar, Hawerlak, Victoria Park Trail, pretty much anywhere in the river valley.
This is probably the biggest park in Edmonton. In summer it is beautiful and gorgeous.
Picnic area
There a few areas for a picnic.
Nice spot in the city for a walk with views. Fur babies welcome too.
Dog-friendliness
Friendly trails and lots of grassy parts.
Such a beautiful park! Love the grandview stairs to work out on and the trails are awesome. Bonus... We saw horses too on our walk.
I love the horses... I have been going to this park since it was created.... it reminds me of my dad... he loved it there too.
Really nice walk in the middle of the city. Not too heavily trafficked. Part of the trail was blocked off about 20 minutes in.
Quite amazing park nestled right where you live in City of Edmonton. We had a chance to go picnic as well as trail walking.
Great place to start a hike. Decent fishing spot near the out flow of whitemud creek. Fire pits and washrooms available.
Long trails with a great view. A lot of squirrels to keep your dogs entertained, also one coyote of mass proportions
Great trails and kids like going to explore. Birds were fed, squirrels chased, sleds used on small downhill slopes.
Whitemud Park is a beautiful place with all natural trail's. Great place for some outdoor activity or just a walk.
Wonderful park in Edmonton for walks or a run but the forest is in sad shape. Trail could use more maintenance.
Great location for birthday parties or family BBQ. Nice trails. Clean washroom with drinking water available!
Was great they have rainbow season now get tickets from online and go for it great for your kids and family.
The creek needs a cleanup. The water level is low now so the city should get in there and take care of it
A number of trails to choose from and to get away from the noise of the road. Easy trekking but of view.
Nice place to go for walks/runs. Has a lot of trails that span out across multiple neighborhoods.
I like it. It is very beautiful. You can see horse rides too. Nice place to photograph's too.
Great place to walk around. Halfway point is the view and then back around the horse equine.
Beautiful colours of Fall in this awesome park. It’s good to start the day for an exercise.
We like this urban wilderness while it offers miles of walking paths along Whitemud River
Very nice park to go for a walk and explore nature. Lots of wildlife to look at too.
Extremely comfortable walking area, very clean, protected and interesting for kids.
Well maintained park, pretty scenery and lots of little critters to enjoy.
Beautiful place to go for a walk or run. Well maintained trails.
Great hiking and biking trails around the park.
