Ordered a rather expensive lamp that was close to £200. This was meant to be a house warming present for our first new home. A lamp I’ve wanted for a very long time - so some to ing I was looking forward to enjoying having in my home. The lamp came but stopped working after one day. I immediately emailed the store and a number of days later I’m yet to have a reply about how to go about returning. Despite the store saying they get back to their customers within 24 hours. 5 days pass and still no response from their customer service team, so my wife called and left a voicemail. A day later and still nothing. So i also reach out and subsequently left a voicemail. Funny that you email them and close to a whole week can go by without a reply. Also quite funny that you can call them on two separate occasions and both times it rings out and goes to their voicemail. Regardless of this I’m forced to go through a returns process where I need to set up an account and request a return. Which I’ve done and am now waiting for their ‘instructions on how to complete my return’ I’ve paid for a very expensive product. Had the disappointment of it being faulty. And am now jumping through hoops to just get their attention to try and return it. On top of the very bitter taste this terrible customer service process has left in my mouth, i have to also accept that I’m expected to pay for the cost of returning this faulty item. Look, I’m all for supporting independent businesses. But it’s businesses like this that make you wonder why you bother. If I could, they wouldn’t even get the one star I’m leaving them. Maybe this review might get them to reply to our email and voicemails.

Ordered 2 lights for about 290 pound. I received them all well and good had to pay 6 pound for postage which wasn’t a great start but oh well. The lights came and were a lot smaller that I was expecting and didn’t fit the room that I was planning to put them in. Found alternatives elsewhere and decided to refund the Kin lamps. Asked customer service and they said it would not be possible they can only offer in store credit and if the boxes were opened they cannot even offer that. I pleaded with them notifying them that I had to open the boxes to see the product. Eventually they replied that they would accept the cash refund if I returned them. I had to pay another 20 pounds for postage tracked and insured as they asked. But when they received the items they claimed that they would not be able to resell the lamps as the cardboard was opened. And I would be charged 25 percent of the total value because of this. Effectively they charged me 71 pounds for a bit of cardboard? The cardboard was not ripped or anything it was just opened as intended then returned as it came. I’m not sure how they expect to run an online store without anticipating any returns. Quite frankly it is the worst customer service I have ever experienced and felt I was treated like a strange inconvenience in a very normal scenario. Would not recommend buying online unless you are absolutely sure and have seen in person.

It was Christmas Eve, and I'm ashamed to say I was a few items short for the big day. I'd heard about Kin through the Independent Birmingham mailshot and had looked at the website a few times so decided to head to the store. I was starting to panic about the impending deadline when Iwalked into a tranquil paradise that was Kin. I found some beautiful items that the recipients all thought were great. Stuff they hadn't seen before and some brilliant minimalist items! I had a great chat with the owner who was really helpful, and most of all patient with me as I lapped the shop about 20 times. He was telling me about Scandinavian Christmas and let me take my time as I allocated gifts in my head! I left the shop in a far better mood than when I walked in. What struck me afterwards was how good quality my purchases were, my total bill was far less than I would have expected. If you're looking for modern and well made gifts, do me a favour and head to Kin before you go to John Lewis.

A fabulous and much needed addition to Harborne and Birmingham. Has a great Scandinavian vibe perfect for any interior and make fantastic gifts. Lovely stationary collection too including cards and wrapping paper to finish off those presents with style. You'll most likely end up keeping them for yourself!

I’ve never actually visited the store in person but I ordered a water bottle from them online that arrived very promptly and with a lovely, personalised message. If I’m ever in Birmingham, I shall pay them visit without a doubt.

Not been to the store but ordered 24 glasses online. They were delivered promptly in good, plastic-free packaging all in-tact. Will certainly think of them next time I want to buy homeware. The range online is great

Brilliant shop for scandavian small household goods. Proprietor very friendly. Something a bit different from the run of the mill when looking for gifts.
