I gave almost 30 years of my life to work at Baptist hospital Nashville which was acquired by ascension in Indiana on down the line. I could not find ascension Nashville to review it there so I put it here being ascension IN is corporate. My story is sad and shocking. I was thrown away I feel like many other older employees. Our then manager Fiona Mullins made my life hell and I feel just bc I was older. I wasn’t the only one. I wasn’t given the chance to work at home like others without horrible Harrassment and I can prove that. Fiona’s sidekick Piera told me to come into the office one day (50 Mile drive for me ) to talk to her. Wouldn’t tell me what it was about. I could hear Fiona in the background talking to her. I gave her a date like Friday and Fiona said no sooner. The reason for me going in there was to tell Fiona everything i did in an 8 hour period at home and I was off the clock. I told them if they would have told me what they wanted I would have brought my notebooks and would have been much more accurate but she didn’t care. I told her this would take me 2 hours to get it exact and I’ve already done this multiple times via e mail to Fiona. This was one tactic of then Harassments. My coworker who also worked from home told me Fiona and Piara called her and asked her these questions She didn’t have to drive in like I did Another thing was I was given 4’doctors cases to do a day with no overtime. NO ONE in my 30’years there has been given this case load. No one ! Just me. Then Fiona would harass and criticize me for not getting all of those boxes emptied. All of them would be hundreds !! Including research , phone calls , refills , prior authorizations tests and drugs just an impossible feat. She was insanely unfair and biased and was determined to see me out. The EEOC told me I had a case but if I filed I would be fired no doubt and I couldn’t afford that. I have medical issues Mind you many doctors here said I was the best nurse they had when I worked for them somewhere in my 30 year rein here. Eileen Brooks our former director said I was the best nurse also she depended on. I was very much targeted by Fiona. I was definitely in fear of the constant Harassment would result in them firing me so I had to to take my long term disability or risk losing all my benefits after all these years. No one cares. I would not advise working here. Work for someone who cares about their older employees. I might add I paid about 80,000 in long term disability premiums and when I received state disability I was ordered to PAY BACK $19,000 to Ascension. I only got $16K from disability payout. Adding insult to injury. You’d think after giving my life to this place they would award me with something grand —- forget it !! Work for a for profit like centennial. Read my story. Make the most of your working years. Because before you know it you will be in the years of retirement and boom—- too late to rethink all this. Work for a FOR PROFIT facility and ascension is a CHARITY —- no benefits here when you age !!! Update — Fiona got fired ! Good riddance. !!!

I had two sons delivered by Dr. O’Neal, in June of 2019 she delivered my stillborn daughter. The experience was horrific, terrifying, shameful, and disheartening. In the midst of surgery, Dr. O’Neal performed the ceserean through my same scar that I had surgery performed on when my two sons were delivered. During that surgery, she cut through the skin wall of my stomach leaving a hole through it that leaked fluid constantly after the surgery was done. I’ve never had to be put to sleep for a surgery, but I did that day because she had to call the general surgeons to come and help her repair the mistake she had made. Before you know it I had a slew of infections, I had to have another surgery a week later where my small intestine was going into my bowel. I had to wear a wound vac that took them three weeks to install on me after a nurse mentioned that I needed one at the very beginning. It’s literally so much that happened I’m running out of characters to even explain. This has to be acknowledged. I’ve experienced four years of trauma, heartache, and suffering mentally. Not to mention that I still didn’t know what happened to my daughter. Dr. O’Neal knew that it was negligence on her part, she didn’t even bother following up and coming to see me afterwards. Nurses even found it insane that she never popped in. She called me to see how my “mood” was weeks later because she wanted to see if I was trying to take action against her. I was humiliated and had to walk around with a tube from the wound vac coming out of my stomach! That was the start of the toughest time of my life! St. Vincent kept releasing me even when I had infections in my body! The home nurses literally looked and said this is a botched procedure, this is medical malpractice! There were nurses competing on me as if I was a human test dummy, trying to draw blood when I told them they need an ultra sound machine. That brought on a blood clot at the age of 24! Like I could go on and on. My medical records from that stay alone has to be uploaded to a thumb drive they refuse to print that much paper. I felt that because Dr. O’Neal delivered my other two children that I was in good hands, but I guess not. Rest in peace my sweet Brooklyn Dior even though they haven’t told me what happened to you, I hope that you’re in a better place!

Went to ER with two broken ribs. Got in fairly quick. Treated in average time.Diagnosed and told will be admitted. Then sent out in the hallway to a gurney and told to wait. This was about 3 pm. Told waiting for room. Not offered food until I flagged them down several hours later. Still no word on what is going on. This hallway was between ER and Imagining with constant traffic and heavy equipment rolling past. This continued into the night. Had to sleep on the gurney right under ceiling lights shining in eyes while trying to get some rest and sleep with constant traffic and equipment rolling right next to my gurney. There was a major communication issue between ER and the nurses in this area. Problems with proper meds being provided that were currently prescribed. ER said don’t have wife bring CPAP , Hospital will provide. Nurses next day indicated they don’t provide CPAP. Spent night in hallway with out CPAP. Yes, had to sleep in hallway on gurney directly under the lights and in the morning when asked if getting room, told don’t know. Will let you know when it pops up on computer screen.Still had more problems getting proper meds I was prescribed on long term. Finally told room available about 11 am the next day. Once arrived to room in another department things dramatically changed for the better. Staff made sure things were in order. They quickly got Rx problems fixed and my wife brought CPAP to use next night. Room was very clean and comfortable. Staff very friendly, competent, prompt and ensured had drinks and food. Treatment finally arrived. The second night finally could get proper sleep and treatment. Wonder if was charged for a private room the first night.

I have 2 anurisms, 2 brain bleeds. And I was sent home with no medication and told you just live with it for a month. I will not be a returning patient. This is cruel and unusual punishment, and I personally feel you should be charged with assault and battery. Unless you had a knife wound or a heart attack they were kicking everyone out with no regard for their safety because they were 'anticipating' drunks and car accidents for the holiday weekend. Mind you, they place was EMPTY with plenty of empty beds. I don't understand how a 'Saint' hospital can send someone away. This both goes against the christian mission and the doctors code of ethical standards thathis is abuse. Would NOT recommend. On top of this, I was there for 4 days and no one cleaned my room, swept or mopped, or changed my sheets. On the last day someone finally swept my floor. I thanked her profusely and said she was the first person to clean! She was shocked. Lovely lady! Oh, in addition the nurses do NOT bring you meds when they're scheduled. You have to ask for meds, drinks, towels, new gowns 4 or 5 times. Didn't realize it was a self serve hospital. Oh, and they only bring you drinks in 6 Oz cans or 8 Oz cups, but they were only filled 5 ounces ...every time. The burgers were great! The sweet potatoes with butter and brown sugar was great. I literally couldn't eat anything else. The food was disgusting!

I will give credit to the few good nurses and doctors that work here. There has been some, definitely not all though. Most of them are too concerned with paperwork to answer a call light. Even when you go to them and ask for assistance in person, they tell you to wait. We have met more mediocre than good. The facility it's self is awful. Waiting areas look like they haven't been swept in a week. The bathrooms are so nasty, I feel like I need a shower after using one. They apparently have plumbing issues. You're lucky to find a bathroom that works right and doesn't smell like someone peed all over the floor. Second room we were put into felt like it was 80 degrees. No one knew why. My sick family member woke up saying they were having a heat stroke. My family member was to not use straws per doctor orders. Yet every time the nurse gave them a drink, there was a straw in it. Thankfully, we never left her side and was able to intervene. We were sent to a different room a third time. This one actually had a shower. The shower had no light and the water barely got warm. The floor was absolutely disgusting! There was dirt all over it, along with someone else's hair. I would never choose this hospital to care for myself or a family member. This contact number they give for you to call with care issues is complete BS! All they do is give you another number to call and that number never answers or calls back.

Here are the things they do not tell you. My wife was admitted for 3 days for orthopedic surgery. Here are the things this hospital does differently and won’t tell you. 1. Nurses do not initiate pain medication. They will not bring you medication as scheduled. They wait until you are in so much pain you request medication. If the doctor prescribes medication every 6 hours, set an alarm on your phone and contact the nurse every 6 hours. 2. The virtual nurse cannot help you. You will get calls and texts from a virtual nurse. If you request any help, no one will come help you. If you get a text asking about your pain level, it does not matter what you say. No one is coming to bring you pain medication. The virtual nurse is just a soul sucking distraction to make you think you are being helped. 3. If food service does not bring you your meal, contact nursing. My wife ordered food and it never arrived. We were told after the fact that we should have contacted nursing. 4. If you have a food allergy, bring your own food. No allergens are marked on the menu and food service struggles to determine what ingredients are in the foods they buy. 5. The nurses are amazing. When you do get nursing care, the nurses do a great job.

From doctor, med students, nurses, hospitality, housekeeping and admin, the staff was amazing! The place was clean, the staff was very informative and answered the questions I had as a nervous first time mom, and gave me the ability to make my own choices in labor and feeding preferences! I gave four stars however, as I have some frustrations with the lactation consultants. As a first time mom, I would have hoped they would have walked me through the ins and outs of breastfeeding better (how to naturally latch, how to “drain the boob”, when breast milk comes in, signs of dehydration in baby, etc.) Instead, they immediately placed a nipple shield on, got the baby to latch, and then asked if I had any questions before leaving. There wasn’t a chance to latch without a nipple shield (seemed like their default) and as a new mom, I didn’t know what questions to ask immediately. I wish they would have info dumped instead and pretended they were teaching an “idiot” since the baseline knowledge was low. I’m since a week out, and had my sister teach me how to latch my child properly without a shield. Frustrated that I needed a relative to do that instead of those paid to assist with that from the start.

I used to love this hospital, but after 2 very serious missed diagnoses (1 ending in a very unwanted hysterectomy after my only child) I wouldn't go there if I was on my deathbed and in their parking lot. My most recent nightmare was to the Emergency Department where I was met with an astonishing amount of incompetence. The department was absolutely overwhelmed and understaffed so the few good employees were visibly exhausted. I will say my nurse, Danielle, was a lovely human and truly cared about her work. The PA, Jeff, was the opposite. His bedside manor was terrible and though I was in a bay for 4 hours, the entire experience felt rushed and unprofessional. He finally came back saying I was fine and needed to drink more water. I was given 1 bag of saline and some ibuprofen during my stay. When I felt even worse 2 days later I scheduled an appointment with my PCP to get a refill for my inhaler and was diagnosed with walking pneumonia and a sinus infection. PLEASE do not take your loved ones to St. Vincent-they hide behind the façade of a loving and religious organization when they are anything but that.

I would say I had a fairly good experience there. The billing department needs major help though. We had big issues getting them to bill things correctly and my case manager had to call repeatedly for the same issue to get it resolved. Also had issues with insurance verification prior to surgery even though they had all the info for months. And insurance issues again when it came to meds from the outpatient pharmacy. I’m also not sure if it’s hospital policy or if it was just my surgeon, but I had decompression surgery for TOS and I feel my pain was dismissed and was not managed as well as it could’ve been. I was left hypertensive and crying due to severe pain numerous times during my stay. I will say all the nurses and techs I had from prep, OR, PACU, and the CV floor were all very kind and helpful. I loved that the OR plays music, I’ve always had panic attacks at being wheeled into the OR and getting ready for anesthesia but the music made it feel like a much more chill environment. I was much calmer during that process then I’ve ever been during past times of surgical prep.

I wish there were negatives stars, because this hospital doesn't even deserve the one. Between the rude & incompetent Dr. Hasan Mukhtar and "head" nurse Valarie on the 7th floor, the Patient Advocate Jana that works remote and doesn't bother to do anything with your concerns anyways or return phone calls, this hospital is the absolutely worst. My 88 yr old mother was in there for two weeks, which should have been only 3 days. The lack of communication between case workers, insurance companies, & doctors, prolonged her stay and eventually caused her to leave before being able to get into a rehab facility. They only got her out of bed three times the whole time she was there, and only because we had mentioned that she was getting zero exercise or movement. Each time we brought this concern up, we were told they were short staffed. They violated the Hipaa policy, when they brought a very unprofessional discussion out in the hallway and nurse Valarie was very loudly, bullying my poor father. I have never experienced such incompetency in a hospital in my life.

Awful, awful operators. I have called twice to get help and was cut off by both operators. Both of them transferred me to the wrong department without telling me. They literally just cut me off mid-sentence and then transferred me to the wrong department. I call back and get another woman who did the same thing! Just cutting off patients!!! The 2nd operator didn't even let me finish speaking. She argued with me the whole conversation taking everything I said about the last call personal. She was not being patient oriented or willing to offer help or assistance instead choosing to argue with me and be passive aggressive . She was very defensive and was telling me she didn't answer the last call and then proceeded to cut me off mid-sentence and transferred me to a voice mail. I transferred my care to this facility because I was looking for better care, but I see now this was a HUGE mistake. They can Keep their ignorant , unprofessional staff that creates barriers to patient care. I'll be taking my healtcare needs over to CHN. Thank you.

I can't understand how a hospital can kick you out and have orderlies and threaten you with security if you dont get out in a few mins. They discharged me and lied by saying I had skilled nursing care set up at my house, I told them I was calling to confirm, and the company said no, I do not. Then, the orderlies said I canceled the care while I was on the phone even though I was on speaker phone for all to hear. It's so ridiculous. I was in the hospital for 16 days to get an authorization to get approved for inpatient rehab / skilled nursing facility approval. The case manager and my insurance told me that morning at 11:15 a.m., I had to wait 24 to 72 hours to hear back. Then, later that day, at 3 p.m, I'm getting kicked out. I had no money or credit card, my phone was almost dead. My friend drove 40 mins to come see me and just arrived. They had no idea she was coming. If she didn't come to see me that day, I would have been stranded. I don't understand how a hospital can do that.

My pre and post surgical and pain care was fabulous. The teams were so efficient, effective and caring. Christian was at my side every minute in recovery and managed every circumstance with great heart and professional expertise. Most of the nursing staff was competent, caring and skilled. Nights were tough as they were sorely understaffed and sometimes traveling nurse did not understand equipment or normal procedures. I strongly urge more standardization, familiarization with procedures and process and oversight if nurses are coming in from other hospitals or locations. Filling in the room communication board, skills for operating the computer and med records, standard communication with patient about meds and what they are for, managing iv and instructions on how bed works. I’m thankful for the great people and care I received most of the time but feel no one in hospital leadership really knows what it’s like there at night with low staff and less capability.

It was kinda horrible. When I got there on Friday it was fine. When Saturday came it went down hill. The stuff was rude and they ignored me when I need help they really did ignore me . When I call for assistant I shave to wait for 30 minutes in they was sitting at the nurses desk . How I know they Stitting there my room was across the nurses desk. My IV had blow. The nurses name Bailey didn't want to change . I had to wait 4 hours for her to change my IV in my arm. I should not be waiting that long or ignore . It was not call for that. Also I have asthma. When I need a treatment they was very very late and I ask for a parn I could not get on was always a issue and I was struggling breathing. Then my food , when I place my order they Will repeat it back but when it comes to my room the order will be wrong. It just like I order a personal pizza it wasn't done the fry fries wasn't cook all the way . . So the for the time I have been there it was horrible.

In the past, I have always spoken highly of this hospital but, I feel that the quality of care provided there has gone down hill terribly. I'm specifically speaking about our most recent experience of transferring our son to the NICU from another in Cincinnati. The communication between the entire staff was non-existent. Doctors repeatedly got our baby's chart confused with other babies and would tell us something that was totally opposite of what our nurse told us. The no breast milk bags policy made it near impossible for us to bring milk in from our surrogate who lives in Cincinnati & the staff was not accommodating to our situation at all. The feeding schedules were also terribly inconsistent which made it hard for us to be there. Most of the staff was also off putting with poor attitudes. At this time, I do not recommend st Vincent's NICU which is sad because our experience 3 years ago with our daughter's birth was phenomenal.

Billing is H-O-R-R-E-N-D-O-U-S. They sent bills to an old address from 17 years ago even though we used them in the months leading up to the billing error. We were turned over to collections and the amazing thing is the collections notice came to the RIGHT ADDRESS! Countless hours on the phone doing the billing dept's job to rectify THEIR MISTAKE. The problem as we see it is lack of accountability of the front line worker who picked the wrong address in their system. If St. V is serious about "patient experience" and the "healthcare journey" then my advice is to focus on billing as part of the patient journey. To anyone who reads this review, you have a choice who delivers your care. My advice is shop around. There are 3 other major systems (Community, St. Francis, and IU Health) in Indy and a couple minor systems (Riverview, Witham, and OrthoIndy) too. For the reason above, we will be steering our family's care away from St. V.

Where to begin my Brother in-law was brought in for spine surgery. The family requested a Priest visit him before surgery. Surgery was 2 hours late and no Priest ever showed up. After surgery in ICU therapy advised they wanted him to stand 3 times a day and no one from therapy showed up to help him stand. A family member who is an OT helped him stand and the nurse got bent out of shape because we had to do their job. This is Friday night and he has had no nutrition since Wednesday night. We were told no one submitted an order for any kind of nutrition. Finally the charge nurse came and told us they got orders for a feeding tube but there is no one in the hospital that can give him one until tomorrow they said he can live on the IV fluid he has. Would.not recommend this hospital to care for your pets let alone your family members.

Nurse Laurie & Allison we’re both phenomenal. They both were very caring, patient and gentle. Hands down the best nurses I had. My pacu nurse was also really great (not sure of her name). Sarah that helped Laurie and the tech Crystal were also top notch. Unfortunately I felt that the other nurses I had following surgery were not as great. The computer system went down on my second night in. I did not get my meds as I was supposed to (they were prescribed and not prn). I had to ask for them and for my drain to be emptied out. I understand computers going down cannot be helped but it seemed like no one knew what was going on during that time. There needs to be more preparedness for if and when nurses have to go the old school way of own and paper. Patient care went way down. The discharge was also a clustered mess.

I am currently an inpatient awaiting a heart transplant at St. Vincent Hospital. I am happy to report that they have a truly excellent and professional staff here . They have always showed me kindness and courtesy through a difficult time in my life. I can’t emphasize the importance of having truly outstanding staff Such as this to care for you, when you need them, the most caring nurses and fantastic doctors are true credit to the profession, and I would wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone in need of a major transplant or operation I’m happy to have found St. Vincents, as it was recommended by another hospital who understood the level of care that I needed with my heart failure. If you should find yourself indeed of services as I have, you could do a lot worse than St.. Vincent’s.

My wife had a scheduled surgery on March 6th at the Carmel St V. The surgeon was great. No complaints. The rest of her hospital stay was a nightmare. Food was horrible. Only a couple of her nurses cared at all. The first Hopitalist was supposed to see her that night, we were told, but he never showed. On top of that he canceled all her meds! And with out explanation. The second day the second Hospitalist did show up but was very flippant and cavalier about her meds. The wife surgeon was beside himself with his concern for her. When she was finally able to go home the staff released her and left the IV still in her arm... I could go on but to what purpose. We will never go back to St V Carmel again. And we are considering changing our future hospital needs to Community Hospitals.

I live in Crown Point, and was sent via ambulance here for surgery. That's a 2.5 hour ambulance ride. I was eventually sent to a rehab back near my home. Now the internal politics of this place are kicking in. I am being refused access to My Portal because an email address was not obtained during admission. I was told I'd have to go to admissions, show my photo ID, and provide an email address so I can be sent an invitation code. I asked numerous times while I was there about getting access to My Portal, and nobody told me this. I need access to my records due to my disability - I have to submit annual paperwork and need to know the dates and times of my stay and surgery at this place. I was told to request my medical records, but they want to charge me for that. What a joke!

this hospital was good at first till they took things out of my dads room my sister had given a cross that she brought from jerusalem and it magically disappeared from my dads room and no one had seen it we keep asking about it and supposedly they were investigating the issue but it’s a catholic hospital and for them to hire people that gonna steal things from their patients it’s a totally disgraceful to the hospital that giving these idiots criminals jobs can’t believe it magically disappear wen something that has sentimental value was taken from my dads room i think if we take stuff out the hospital i bet they will act quickly hope they see this message and they get back to me cuz in person they can’t figure who took it i guess it was casper who took the cross.

Overall nursing care was disappointing- I had one amazing night nurse who stayed on top of my medications and needs. The other nursing staff however would take up to two hours to bring pain meds and didn’t disclose all that I was supposed to be taking three different meds. I had spinal surgery and was in a lot of pain but would have to continuously ask for meds which again would take hours to get. I had been prescribed 3 different meds but was only given one for the first day and a half. I was also discharged with having an MRI which was ordered by the dr before discharge. I then had to go back to the hospital after being discharged for the scans. It was an excoriating and frustrating experience by most of the RN staff in the Orthopedic ward.

I was recently admitted to the ICU very unexpectedly. From the time I arrived until the time I was discharged, my nurses were absolutely stellar! My night nurse Charra took great care of me and never tired of answering my call light. My day nurse, Taylor was fantastic with making sure I was comfortable. I got to spend some extended time with day nurses Libby and Natalie, while awaiting a procedure. Truly outstanding professionals focusing on patient needs and care! (Libby even braided my hair to get it out of the way!) Another day nurse, Stephanie, was very caring, helped me order food after days of ice chips, and followed up on some questions I had. She was with me when I was discharged! I cannot say enough good things about these nurses!

Day shift nurses here are amazing!!! night shift not so much asking for anything was like you were bothering them, they did not in anyway ask to help you if u needed help in the bathroom getting cleaned up an had no problem leaving me in obvious dirty messy bed linens an bed pads I had to change the bed pads myself I couldn’t change the linens due to the types of stomach surgeries I had! A when gettin up to walk just out of curiosity wondering why anything I asked was such a bother I walked to the nurses station an oh look on their phones!!! I was not impressed with this part of my stay at this hospital! Nurses are there to help ppl an the 7pm-7am (not sure if that’s the exact hours) made me feel more of a burden than anything else

I can't get a price estimate. I tried to online first and it said I had to call. When I call they transfer me around and then hang up on me. They outsourced their call center and don't care. This hospital is a great case for state takeover of healthcare. I am cancelling my MRI and will tell my friends and family to avoid St. Vincent. I will also report this to my government representatives. Update: After calling and informing the customer service representative that they were being recorded, they finally transferred me to the MRI department who at least attempted to help with an educated guess, assisting me much more than the billing, estimates, and coding departments, all of which either transferred me around or hung up on me.

  • Jason Tropmann

The entire staff from beginning to end was VERY caring and concerned! They spoke to me at length regarding what the two causes of my abdominal pain might be and also explained in great detail why they were pursuing one cause over the other and also the treatment plan for both causes should I experience any additional symptoms that may lead them to change their course of treatment. I had three separate teams of doctors in three separate medical disciplines and they ALL worked hand in hand to come up with a solution and the treatment plan that ultimately was the right choice. My deepest admiration and respect to all of the medical staff at St. Vincent 86th Street! Jason Tropmann

The only way that I can see this hospital getting ratings in the lower 3's on reviews, is because they're short of staff. I've never been to a better hospital, and they'll continue to be the hospital that I'll choose to go to over any other. Ascension St. Vincent hospital has my overall preference, and has had it for a very long time. Thank you all that are employed, and continue to share your compassion. Maybe when nurses aren't afraid of whatever their fears are of working in hospitals, then hopefully your ratings will rise towards a, if not the 5.0. Thank you all for your support , and happy belated memorial day, because y'all heal my heart .

Definitely not a deaf friendly environment. I was submitted emergency for gallbladder and gallstones. I am deaf patient there with my husband who is also deaf. We kept asking for VRI to work but it was a different kind. My friend called for me to complaints about not getting us an interpreter.. 4 days later, interpreter showed up furiously because she have a language department in same building. She provided us a VRI machine to bring anywhere. The surgeon teams are amazing people but some but not all regular doctors and some nurses are awful. This is very traumatizing for me and my husband. I will never want to come back again! We will take some actions soon!

after the first shift change everything goes bad. my son had his tonsils and adenoids taken out and the prep and surgery went fantastic. once second shift came around and he was recovering, we’ve been neglected of his needs towards mental health, as well as some dietary requirements. water leak coming from bathroom sink, nurse even came in because “other patients complained about the bathrooms”, looked straight at the leaking faucet and said it was fine. i’m still here and it’s 6:51 AM, so far over the night we’ve been ignored 3 times for my sons next dose of medication and everything is super inconvenient. also get more comfortable and quiet couches

The doctors and staff at St. Vincent's literally saved my life! I had been to another emergency room at a different facility just 2 days prior, and was informed that I just had a stomach virus. I knew that something else had to be wrong. St. Vincent's found that I was septic, had a blood infection, kidney infection that also included a cyst and abscess on my right kidney. They never quit searching for answers. Every staff member there from the doctors, nurses, food service staff to the cleaning staff was very helpful and very friendly. I owe everything to St. Vincent's and feel like they are the best hospital around!

Religiously and culturally insensitive verging on hostility/discrimination. Untrained staff provided me with non kosher food despite my requesting kosher food during registration and pre-registration. One food service representative insisted it was kosher. They also told me I could order off the regular menu because it was kosher. One food service representative actually told me, "Our website says we have kosher food, but we don't". Initially, they refused to contact local rabbi/board overseeing kosher food when I asked them to do so. They have now received an inservice, so hopefully this condition has been fixed.

Dr. Metakevich and Dr. Ceranske did a great job with my fibroid removal surgery. I was in so much extreme pain prior to the surgery to where I could hardly sleep, move or eat. It was relatively quick and painless and so far I am recovering well with minimal scarring. Had a slight issue with being taken of the surgery schedule for insurance issues, but other than that, care was fine. And I have some small lacerations (and numbness after day 4) in my mouth I’m guessing from anesthesia intubation that I’m hoping will get better. Highly recommend team of doctors and nurses. They will take care of you!

(they keep moving this review down to try to hide it) Wife has had many abdominal surgeries and we finally got tired of no one doing anything about the pain it's left her in since. Been to Methodist and university 1000s times we needed change. She spends a week in university ER and needs to go back 2 days later. So I take her here. She's is treated by a JEFFREY BELL and HEATH BROWN they literally told her what she has is chronic he can do anything for her he's discharging her. No symptom management nothing. Please believe little jeffrey and heath ain't gonna get away with it either.

Giving birth to our son at Ascension St. Vincent Women’s Hospital was one of the best experiences of our lives. Dr. Stevens and the nurses who assisted us, Melissa and Allison, were phenomenal. Everyone was friendly, kind, accommodating, patient and encouraging. Our birthing plan was thoroughly respected. The entire staff was amazing and the food and service made us feel like we were staying in a five-star hotel. We wish every mother giving birth could experience what we did. We are grateful we chose Ascension St. Vincent Women’s Hospital and will cherish the memories forever.

  • Jessica Anderson

I have to say about this hospital, great doctors and surgeons worked on my dad yesterday did a great job on my dad but there’s a little bit of a drawback: the waiting room where me and my family stayed for my dad’s surgery was fine but the lady that took my brother and mom back to see my dad was very rude to me and my husband and the operator was very rude to hang up on me was rude as well. It would be nice if the people there would be more considerate and kind. This hospital is luckily I didn’t give a one star because they need to be considerate of patients family’s as well.

  • Rip VanRiper

Honestly, I felt like I was in a 5-star hotel. Tony & Mac, they were a cohesive team at night. Toni helped me through the hardest part of my laser lithotripsy experience. Because most of the experience is when i woke up & those 2 were there for me, so were others, the day staff Nurses, nurses assistants, physician etc. are all there for me as well. The food was superb when I asked for fresh cooked spinach they delivered! I am amazed. Very satisfying very kind people. Thank you so much for delivering me in 1966 and delivering my kidney stone in 2023!

  • J Tay

The very best hospital ! My husband has had two open heart surgeries and numerous other medical procedures over a 30 year span. We would never trust any other hospital to care for us! Going through ER is hard enough but feeling like you are top priority is how St.Vincent treats you. They listen, and will not stop until your diagnosis is found! This has been true from the first open heart in 1999 to our trip through ER last Tuesday! They did ever test till my husband's GI issue was solved! Thank you St.Vincent!

  • Cassandra Thomas

Aunt was admitted to hospital coming from ER, which everyone in the ER was very nice, compassionate and concerned. Taking to her floor the nurse that got her set up in her room, asked to see my POA documents for her, which I felt was very unusual. I wasn’t asked for it in the emergency room while I was signing papers giving consent. I was told she would be in there for at least 5 days. Came to visit within two days and auntie was transported to the rehab facility without my knowledge. I was very upset.

  • thumper styles

To the 4th floor the young lady that got my sons stuff together and helped him and the other young lady. Thank you and the transporter and melinda the nurse last night thank you for your help. Now to the rest of you mom speaking broken English people up there on the 4th floor st.vincent use to be about care and pt care and helping them get better and not antagonizing the pt and making them want to leave its ALL ABOUT. MONEY PAY CHECKS. AND FORGET THE PT WAIT TILL MY ATTORNEY GETS THIS !

  • Terri Covington

ICU nurses are rude, unpleasant, and have no care regarding sick patients. When you call to get answers they act like robots, they are automated and tell you they do not have time to share pertinent information regarding your loved ones. Patient care is not the same anymore. I can only imagine how they are doing their job if they do not have any empathy at ALL!!! This hospital is the worst place to go for your healthcare needs. Please choose your hospital carefully for your loved ones.

  • Olivia Purcell

Nurse Stephanie is unhelpful and rude to her patients. Caught a real nasty attitude from her after listening to the loud IV alarm for 15 minutes where she then back pedaled and said she didn’t hear it til we finally called her. Which is untrue as you can hear it all through the hallway. She also never gave my grandma her extra blanket like she said she would. I really hope the rest of the nurse staff is better than this. Really unhappy with how we were treated there.

  • Rhonda Fox

I stayed at Ascension St Vincent from July 6-10, 2023 after having a pretty major abdominal surgery. While my day nurse for the first 3 days was fantastic, I was really disappointed in most of the other nurses and technicians. They did not seem interested in my well-being and I often had to voice concerns when a nurse or tech did or said something contrary to what a doctor had said. If I have a choice in the future I will not return to this hospital.

  • Latoya Peterson

This was the worst hospital experience I have ever had. I was brought in by ambulance arrived at 6:30pm placed in a hallway and left there until after 11pm. To experience the car accident that I did by getting smashed from behind by a dump truck and St. Vincent’s lack of urgency, substance, care or concern was the worst part of my day. The car will be replaced it’s the lack of care from this hospital that is beyond unethical and disappointing.

  • Patti Merrill

Doctors don’t agree on care. One came in and said I could be on a liquid diet and then later another doctor comes in and tells me I’m still NPO. I had to threaten to leave if didn’t get some broth. Since I hadn’t eaten for two days. So they agreed but it took two and a half hours to get my broth! After that it takes about an hour to get food. Told me two days later I was being released. Five hours later I got to go home. Will not return here.

  • Jennifer Fitzwater

Had to take my daughter there. Started off okay with everyone being very kind and helpful. The Drs and residents are phenomenal and kept me informed. Told we could go home on the 2nd day by the surgeon. The floor staff had different ideas and left me not knowing what was going on for over 6 hrs. Was finally told that we would be staying another night. Did not appreciate the stalling tactics that they used. Overall, the experience was okay.

  • beverly arthur

This is one of the sorriest hospitals I have ever encountered! A friend of mine was admitted there not by her own willingness and she ended up passing because of not being fed properly, being harassed and bullied by nurses which caused physical and emotional harm, not providing the medications she so desperately needed. I could go on and on so beware: Don’t ever have your loved ones go to St. Vincent’s because you may never see them again!

  • Teresa Hamill

Was hospitalized on the Head & Neck Unit, under the care of Dr. David Montes. Diagnosed w/tongue cancer as well as a tumor on mandible. 4 surgeries included cancer removal, skin graft to repair tongue, removal of non- cancerous tumor, bone marrow extraction to repair jaw. My hospital experience from beginning to end was professional, personable, kind and empathetic. The care I received at St. Vincent's was stellar, second to none.✝️

  • Mariah Louden

At St.Vincent everyone was very nice and in my opinion did their jobs well. The one thing I can say that would be an improvement in the future is a little more communication between the changing nurses and techs. I found myself bringing a nurse I had up to speed with my current condition, which I feel like should have already been something discussed before the changing shifts. Despite that everyone was incredibly caring, and capable.

  • Cindy Barnhart

The night time nurses were awesome. Evening nurses did pretty good about checking in on me. Had to request pain meds during the day. On the last day I was there I never even seen the nurse until it was almost time for me to leave. She didn't go over the discharge instructions or make any suggestions. She said there's information in the folder. And that was it. I get their busy but come on. At least check on patients randomly.

  • Jon G

Terrible experience so far. Called scheduling and was told I didn’t need to make an appointment and that I could just walk in for an EKG. That sounded odd and I asked again if that was correct from another employee and they said yes to just walk in. Upon going to the hospital they said they was not the case and I would have to wait as the next appointment was over two weeks away. The central scheduling department is awful.

  • Susan Ellis

My husband was admitted in the middle of the night from another hospital. I followed trying to find Emergency. Pulled in the drive and saw Ambulances only. Parked in the garage and had to ask employee on break howto get there. You can’t see the sidewalk beside the drive because it is so dark. Lights would help. My husband had only good things to say about staff, but the bed was terrible and the toilet didn’t work in 7407.

  • Elizabeth D.

My surgeon and his team were exceptional!! As with all large work forces, sometimes we can get a "less than enthusiastic" night shift. I will say Asia, Derek, Dionne (sp?), Ashley (lovely person and singer!!) Dr. David Brown and of course Dr. Khairi, Mark PA, Kristen PA and the other team players are the best of the best. I was fortunate enough to be able to have one of the best neuro surgeons ever, also Spine surgery!!

  • Allen Greear

I finally found my hospital A1 staff, in particular Tee and Mortella...the nurse and aide that cared for me for 3 of the days of my stay...was on the heart healthy diet, and it wasn't bad and fantastic staff there as well, the only thing is they're really understaffed in the PT department, took me 3 days to get it, great staff, just not enough of them, and they even provided me with medical transportation home..

  • Tammy Kafka

Everyone and every team involved in my surgery and recovery was exceptional. During a scary and stressful time the caregivers I was surrounded by helped ensure I was taken care of physically and emotionally. I especially want to call our Carly, Greg who were two of the best nurses caring for me and Dr Sando and Dr Paul who performed my surgery. I felt like I had the best team serving me

  • Katherine Holtzleiter

Other than initial confusion at the ER about my being there for surgery, things went well and everyone was gracious and helpful. The recovery and floor nurses were wonderful and the food service people were great. I'm a vegan so many times it's hard to eat a balanced meal ordering from the menu, but the Chef, Sam Brown, came to see me in person twice to make sure I was getting what I needed!

  • Laura Birch

I went into the ER for a really bad migraine. The nurses and doctor were really knowledgeable and knew how to get a migraine under control. The only downside is that the inpatient pharmacy said that they sent my medication and it took over 1 hr and 30 minutes to get it and it was a stat medication for a migraine. The nurses had to call 4 times to tell the pharmacy that the patient needs it.

  • C Lehman

Room 1505 has no hot water in the shower. Bulbs were out in the bathroom, so lighting was very low. The phone did not work in the room. That section of the hospital is not set up for special needs adults. The nursing staff needs to be trained out such individuals. The bed in the rooms was in poor quality. I have to say this was the worst experience my son and I have had anywhere. ,

  • Jen Hook

Besides the benefit of having laparoscopic surgery, I would not chose this hospital again. I was there Thurs-Sun, saw housekeeping one time on Sunday and they didnt clean my room completely. Blood on the floor multiple places in the surgery center, even on my surgeon's shoes. I waited hours for medication and for a nurse. Even had a man hollering help several doors down the hall.

  • Eddie Mccoy

All the nurses, techs , and all the staff was awesome this time I was on 6w , I’ve been there a few times in the past few months. They are cleaning and healing some issues I have from other hospitals! And definitely the doctors that are in the group! Can’t say enough about the ER team, busy yes, but you’re not forgotten!!! They do check in often!!! Great job St. V.

  • Sherrae Henderson

I absolutely love Peyton manning children's hospital. The nurses are always so nice and willing to do what they need to do. The nursing students are amazing for helping keep babies occupied while parents aren't able to be there they step in and help. They always make sure they have a diagnosis and that you are on the right track to getting better and going home.

  • Kansas N.

This hospital is absolutely disgusting. There's no way this hospital is up to code with the state board of health. Every area is filthy, dry blood, bodily fluids all over the furniture and floors. Rude rude staff. Absolutely disgusting. I've requested to have the waiting areas cleaned for 2 days now, even stated that I'd clean for them. Nothing is being done.

  • Sierra Peters

Everything went so smoothly for the birth of my first child! Everyone was so kind and helpful! I love all the staff and the addition of a lactation consultant to ask questions to. Also the birthing ball and aromatherapy for my labor helped the labor move faster and more comfortable! Amazing! Thank you so much for making my birth experience an amazing one!

  • Betty Bentzler

Three days as inpatient after surgery and the only complaint I have is that it was hot on the 6th floor. Staff brought a fan but the air conditioning was not working very good. The staff was great. The nurses were all knowledgeable and made me feel comfortable and safe. The food is very good. I was impressed with the variety of healthy options they offer.

  • Skyler Griffey

Worst hospital staff ever. They constantly have no clue what they or the other nurses are doing. Clueless is beyond what these nurses are. They messed up my medicine numerous times. They messed my my pd dialysis numerous times. They left me tied to my machine for 17 hours. And when I asked what my labs looked like they said I have no clue

  • Heather Maxwell

One of the best hospitals I have been to for patient care. I was admitted to another hospital two different times in the same month for the same issue. I still was not feeling better I went to St Vincent and they figured out the issue and I feel much better. Thank you to the drs. And especially the nurses that do so much for the patients.

  • Shy Shy

AMBER FROST The Manger On The 5th Floor (Neuro) Is A Horrible Person . Very Lazy She Doesn’t Help Her Team She Never There And And A Very Big Lair If Things Dont Go Her Way She Will Fire You !!! She Very Bad At Her Job And St Vincent Needs To Look In To Her Work. I Don’t Really Leave Reviews But DONT WORK FOR HER SHE A HORRIBLE PERSON ‼️

  • Linda Thompson

I ended up being in St V's for 7 days for emergency surgery. Everyone I met was very very nice, in every dept. Not one person was rude or unfriendly. I'm talking doctor's, nurses, housekeeping, kitchen when I could order food, Chaplin's, the person who wheeled me to my waiting husband in the car. I hope I'm not forgetting anyone.

  • Pat Cunningham

I received excellent care at Ascension St Vincent. The staff was very caring, kind and solicitous of my needs. They went above and beyond! Alyssa, Robert, Tom, Lindsey, Shannon, Crystal, Dena, Kristen, Dr Liu, Dr ONeill, and Dr Potts were all amazing and my outcome is so much better than I ever expected. Thank you so much!

  • Linda Ross

I felt really at ease there. Everyone was so nice and explained everything they were going to do for me as a patient.. The DRS,The nurses, Respatory therapy, Aids, nursing asst, the volunteers, Everyone that was involved in my case. I was on the seventh floor and the room was so spacious for family and friends to visit.

  • Nathan M

Surgery waiting area needs someone there after 8:00 pm when there are still family waiting for a loved one to come out of surgery and no one there to give updates. The phone number we were given to call wasn't very helpful. Drs & nurses in cardiac ICU were awesome with the patient & helpful in answering our questions.

  • Daniel Richmond

Nursing staff is tremendous. The doctors were a mixed bag like most places. They struggled to admit us and we had to spend the night in the ER hallway, but once we were admitted it went well. The food was good, but they always forgot items on our trays literally every single meal for the week we were there.

  • Aaron Ross (AJ)

This is in My opinion one of the most amazing hospitals I have ever been to. I got treatment within 30 minutes of arriving. The staff were so understanding of me being a service dog handler/user, they did everything they could to make myself & my assistant's animal Feel safe, comfortable, And attended to.

  • Hippie Hippie

Staff was awesome ..food was good...it was clean...even had a good medical student...the chaplain was good also ..Fatima Rosa, DR.Whitney Fraiz, DR.Span, Minna Balow, Alex Kadah...these people not only made sure I was comfortable, they went out of there way to explain my treatment and diagnosis..

  • Sean Whaley

Left me for hours in the ER with an empty fluid bag and no call light. After I called the hospital to tell them, I could hear the nurses outside of my room making fun of me. Had a great experience here earlier this year but now this place is just toxic trash. Stay away. There's other hospitals.

  • Indmom11

Had a supposed $49 heart scan here and just got a bill from radiology partners for $550 for the reading. Talk about false advertising. Buyer beware- don’t believe their heart scan price because you get a separate bill from their radiologists. Sad it’s all about the money at this place now.

  • Jane Cunningham

While I was in Asension St Vincent I was well cared for. I found the staff to be very helpful; responding quickly to my needs; clean, cheerful and often charming. I left notes in the box on the counter at my nurses station. I was in room 2530. I really have no complaints. Thank you!

  • Steph Bailey

I have been sitting in the er waiting room for 3-1/2 hours and my son has not been moved to an exam room. I would nor recommend anyone use this hospital. The place is filthy, the help is rude and the service is unacceptable. It is the worst hospital I have ever been in.

  • S P

Pulse monitor machine kept me awake with alarms when heart beating rate went below 50bpm. As I would relax to sleep, the alarms went off. Finally got threshold adjusted to 45bpm at 4:30 3 hours of sleep followed. Considered signing DNR waiver to get machine turned off.

  • Kendra L

The nursing staff, the doctors, and the peripheral care people did a wonderful job helping my ~10yr old daughter. They were constantly working to keep us informed and updated, even though there was a computer glitch that would not let us order food from Nutrition.

  • That_art _guy Tattoo

Waiting hours are ridiculous it seems like they are just irritated and hate their job. Almost seems like they don’t even believe that something is wrong with you like if your lying about it why would we want to even be here for hours Makes no sense at all.

  • Shyla Pollard

Wasn't given a doctor note that I visited for 8/8/2023. Nurse was very rude. Didn't explain anything to me properly. She didn't explain any paperwork. Just forced me to sign. Dr. Who refused the doctor note as well. I asked him to put that in my charts.

  • Russell McLaurin

You know those horror stories you hear of people getting bills of thousands of dollars for as little as a band aid? This is that place. Avoid going to their ER at all costs. This place greatly super inflates their prices well beyond anything reasonable.

  • Tim Lobdell

The medical staff and nursing team did a tremendous job for me and supported a timely discharge after having a significant surgery and organ extraction. Wonderful experiance all the way through a great patient menu and quality food and service.

  • Monte Harris

I was disappointed by the service response and treatment as I was made to go without food from Sunday nooni until Tuesday night. I also did.not get my dinner one night after ordering it and srveral times it took 3 hirs. Before I got it .

  • Julie Cooney

Monica was the nurse and she was very knowledgeable and personable. She put me at ease and answered any questions I had. Dr. Stiers was the hospitalist and he provided updates daily and was always available if I had additional questions

  • shawn mayer

Dr. Sheng and his staff are phenomenal. The treatment and care they took during my daughters procedure, and have taken on her follow up, are second to none. Definitely no regrets in the decision we made to have them take care of her.

  • april strong

Very disappointed hospital seems really shabby. Every room needs painted. RN's seem over worked Tech's seem to spend most of day on personal calls and trying to get out of work. Very negative atmosphere this hospital is broken.

  • Paula McDougle

I did not approve of your company sending me home with a prescription for pain medication that couldn't be filled. I also had 1 occasion when I was abused and I will try my best to never have to go to one of your hospitals.

  • Elizabeth Inman

We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. My husband and I went in nervous and unsure what to expect with our son’s surgery. All of the staff (doctors, nurses, custodians, cafeteria) made us feel at home.

  • Matt Collett

Bukola was the best RN I've ever had the pleasure of being treated by. Her level of personal attention and dedication to keeping her patients as comfortable as possible was unbelievable. Thank you, Bukola!

  • Constance Rahe

My husband and I have been very pleased with the care he has received from Dr McNulty for his aging /dementia diagnosis. The staff is also very helpful and supportive so we highly recommend their services.

  • JOHN CURRY

I just want to say that everyone I had contact with at Ascension St Vincent during my procedure was very professional & caring. I will always remember the wonderful care I was given at your facility.

  • Chris Kriete

My daughter was born 7 weeks early. She had to go to St Vincent since she couldn't breath on her own. The NICU and NCC are AMAZING! The drs and nurses were wonderful. Im so thankful for this place!

  • Patrick Callahan

Had to go to the hospital over the 4th holiday weekend. Even with everyone covering holiday staffing changes and schedules, everyone was very attentive and nice and took great care of me.

  • Carl Drury

I just spent nine days in the hospital getting treatments for some heart issues. The care I received was excellent. St. Vincents has a great team of doctors, nurses and other people.

  • Nicole Stotler

I have never been treated so well. The only place I will go from now on. The doctors, nurses, techs & cafeteria staff were beyond caring and exceptional. Truly care about patients

  • Haley Krause

It was honestly the best experience I have ever had in a hospital. All the nurses and doctors every step of the way were absolutely amazing and great bedside manner!

  • Teresa Mitchell

ER staff were top rate! Once in a room I had some trouble with getting my call lights answered. Food was good. Drs were awesome. My nurses were great too. …

  • Paula Greenwalt

Horrible. Waited 6-8 hours for pain meds after surgery. Some nursing staff acted like I wasn’t even there. Horrible patient care.
