Nicu experience awful Belittling exhausting not exceptional care like community motto used to be Foster parent of 6 years went to pick up medically cleared baby from nicu. Normally Dcs would bring baby to us even from nicu once medically cleared but sometimes they like to do some teaching which is normally not a 48 hours stay. When got up to the hospital turned in id and met baby was told everything is changed in computer so privacy hippa safety is good. Called to set up new babies follow up appointment was able to set up with no difficulties communicated with call in line that I was a foster parent and wanted to make sure my number was on there and they have all correct information. They assured me that everything was changed and we would have no issues. Dr suyog kamatkar the nicu doctor cams in extremely short and rude attitude came in around 10 am after I had been there since 600pm the day before not once did a nurse ask me if I would like to eat dinner or breakfast and they could keep the baby why I could go down to cafeteria in just that 14 hours. So doctor and np and nurse come in to do rounds explains the case patient has no extra medical equipment needs in the time I showed up baby had awful diaper rash snd bleeding when arrived at 6pm with the first 14 hours of me taking total Care of baby baby had gained almost 1lb and diaper rash was clearly up with lots of frequent diaper changes. Still with taking care and showing I can feed change and care for baby and already have my foster licenses he said absolutely not leaving till 48 hours. I explain to him baby is medically cleared and I have proven myself for 14 hours what more is there to do I am left in a room with baby and I and baby can’t go down to cafeteria staff is super busy and I wasn’t going to be that family member on the call light for the nurses to have to do more work. Not once in the first 14 hours did a nurse go out of their way to ask if I needed anything to drink or wanted to go get something to eat. I explained to doctor I made his newborn appointment Friday at 830 and was needing to be discharged before. He was very rude said no you will need to reschedule. I went on explaining to him foster parents don’t get maternity leave and I was needing to get his appointments done before next week because my schedule was full. Doctor was not sensitive to flexibility it would be different if patient wasn’t medically cleared but they just wanted me to sit in a room for 2 nights 3 days by myself with baby while they pop in every now and then. I called after they left to reschedule the appointment the new community call center is horrific experience on hold for 30 minutes once answered they made me aware they just got off the phone with me to confirm his appointments. I said no that’s not correct patient foster kid and when u sat up his appointment first time they assured me the privacy actions were all in place. Not try they begin to tell me phone numbers ans names which were not mine or Dcs. They had called the biological family which was not supposed to be communicated and let them know where his appointment is. I trusted community with confidentiality and took their word. I took care of baby and baby gained weight eating great and rash improved and they still wouldn’t let me go home knowing I had to work all night and they didn’t want to allow a babysitter to stay eith him but also didn’t want me to leave him in. Nicu while I went and worked in another department if they didn’t have to. Explained to them I can stay up here till work but then I will need to work all night snd I will be bavk in morning to get patient. I have already been up here now for 24 hours with baby my husband brought me food before having to go to work when he arrived that was the first time in 24 hours someone offered us a drink. The second day shift nurse was nice she was just extremely busy which was fine baby was good there shouldn’t be any more reason to stay facility was busy baby was good after working all night came up and they wanted me to do more feedings awful experience
The OB/Maternity Ward I was discharged yesterday and wanted to share my experience. Pros: 1. All of my nurses were friendly and team players, helping each other and seeking counsel from each other to make sure I received the best care. 2. All concerns and warnings about pregnancy and complications were explained to me clearly and concisely, by my doctor and by my nurses. 3. This OB ward does not have a nursery, which means that I have the highest level of individual attention on my child, and the lowest chance that my baby would be confused with another child or interact with another child. 4. All parts of the staff were friendly to me, housekeeping, room service, visiting residents, assisting staff, and visiting doctors. 5. Every single call light was answered in a timely manner with concern and professionalism. 6. Pain assessment was a top priority and each part of the team (delivery, epidural placement, and recovery) assessed me for pain to be sure I was comfortable. 7. Every test run on my child was explained and confirmed with me. 8. Every shift change I was aware of my nurse and asked permission for charting and information exchange in my presence. 9. Lactation consultants and Chaplain services were offered to me and presented with patience, kindness and concern for my time and my level of comfort. 10. Any time I left my room I was met with friendliness and helped immediately. I was never overlooked! 11. Every staff member knocked, and introduced themselves when they entered my room, they also asked if I was available to speak with them, which I felt was very courteous! 12. The staff member that helped me with discharge, also recovered my lost belongings when I misplaced them near the exit of the hospital. 13. My room had a spacious refrigerator, a microwave, a special couch bed, a rocking chair, a large bathroom and several chairs for visitors. I was also able to plug my PS4 into the TV and enjoy a movie and a game during my visit. Cons: 1. After the birth of my child, a visiting family doctor evaluated my baby and I did not witness him wash his hands before or after, which made me feel concern. 2. A nurse that was not assigned to me wore an overpowering scented oil that almost made me nauseated. 3. Cell phone reception is spotty and difficult for phone calls. 4. From time to time the staff were chatting or laughing loudly during quiet hours outside my door. 5. The food was ok, it was delivered in a timely manner, but it wasn't always very good, depends on what you ordered. I have delivered at three different hospitals, including Community North, and I felt that my experience at Community East was the best. Even though I had some negative things happen, I still felt the level of care from my doctors and nurses was exceptional! I would recommend this Maternity Ward to anyone seeking caring staff! I am glad I chose this hospital and if I choose to have another child, I will return.
I've went back and forth about whether or not to post this. But I will not let our story go unheard and how we were failed by Community East. I have a history of incompetent cervix and lost my daughter at 18w my first pregnancy. When i got pregnant again in 2016 I was terrified. I was assured by Dr. Anthony Sanders that I would be closely monitored to ensure it didn't happen again. My cervix was not being monitored. I went into an appointment at about 18w, ultrasound revealed that my cervix was dialated and the sac and my sons foot was protruding out. I was rushed for an emergency cerclage. Again, they tried to assure me that we would be fine. But why wasn't this checked earlier? I had to beg to be referred to MFM clinic and they finally did but never sent any records to the office so when I got there it was a joke. I went to the hospital 3 weeks later because I was having fluid leaking. They did a test and said it wasn't amniotic fluid, laughed at me and said it was urine. When I went into preterm labor with my daughter in 2014, the test was false negative as well, I delivered her an hour later. I reminded them of this but again was told I was wrong. When I was 24w I went to the hospital at 4pm with low abdominal pain. It was consistently getting worse. None of the nurses or doctors would listen. I'm telling them, I'm having contractions. Every 2 minutes and counting. They point at the monitor that's not showing any contractions and walk away. I had been leaking fluid for 3 weeks. I'm obese. With those factors of course the contractions wouldn't show on a machine. I'm was in so much pain. Begging for pain medication and they bring me Pyridium because my pain, according to them, was from a bladder infection. This went on for hours. Crying, screaming and no one came. I kept having to go to the bathroom there was so much pressure. An ultrasound tech finally came in and started the ultrasound which caused more excruciating pain. I had little to no amniotic fluid left. She left the room, triage bed still raised up so high I had to have my sister help me down when the next contraction hit. I gave birth to my son standing up in the triage bathroom at 7:46pm. He was beautiful. He was transferred to Riley and passed away shortly after. I will not let this Healthcare system continue to treat patients going by lab results and numbers and whatever is on the damn screen. Listen to your patients and think outside the box. Do not fall into the trap that only let's you see what is on paper. I will never get that night back but if I can try to save another woman from that nightmare, I'll do all I can. This was in 2016. I'm still haunted by these memories every day.
Another horrible experience 2 weeks ago I had to go to ER at eskenazi …....was in so much pain apparently I had a bone spur in my shoulder and a small infection in my finger I was told I need orthopedic surgeon. I was referred to Dr DeFalco he looked at the x-rays and he pressed a couple spots on my arm asking me if it hurts here or there and by the way the whole arm was achy so it was hard to pin down what exactly he was trying to do or find!!! he hit one spot and said well that's the problem it's just a nerve. I explained it still hurts all the way down my arm and would like to try cortisone or progesterone? I can't take a narcotic because of work and then he told me he can't prescribe narcotics unless I have a broken bone or injury that required it yes I'm laughing because I told him I don't want narcotics? I want out of pain so I can get to work I told him specifically I'm not looking for any narcotics..... to be judged this way and to have a conflicting diagnosis telling me I need to referral for a spine doctor now and his overall manner was horrible. I try to be nice but it really made me mad frustrated and confused is it because I was a gay man if that's the case you don't need to be working there or anywhere as far as I'm concerned... I will never go back to community because of this man who calls himself a specialist and I still didn't get a cortisone shot that's all I wanted ...hoping to get out of pain. It has been two days now and I'm still in pain. Do no harm !!! a forgotten oath most doctors have forgotten or they just ignore it anymore. especially Dr DeFalco I would advise you to go anywhere but here. And every time my arm and elbow is hurting I think of this man and what he could have done to help me because I know he could have ......he gave me one choice and one choice only a referral to another specialist. I still see we judge a book by its cover not by its content I'm used to that being a gay man in the Bible don't get me wrong most of my fellow Hoosiers and neighbors are awesome and I love them all but this man had power to get me out of pain and suffering and lots of sleepless nights no one should have that kind of power if he isn't going to help he broke his oath to his practice and caused much more pain. I'm tired of being nice all the time and I'm going to tell you like it is and you probably won't like it but I always tell the truth
Was here almost a week. Everyone was telling me different things. They denied me even water this entire time. Most of the nurses were nice, but I encountered one, and I have NO idea how she still has her job. He name was Maria in the surgery and recovery unit. Rude, and extremely lazy. Left me unhooked from my IV for an hour (to take a personal phone call, and forgot), caused a vein to blow, which resulted in my entire vein coming out with my IV when it was changed, and got upset when I requested my meds, because she was never on time. That isn't even the half of it. Asked the head nurse not to assign this horrible lady to me if she was there the following day, but not to make a big deal of it. The rude nurse found out about it, and that's when she really showed herself. Disrespected not only me, but my visitors, mocked my mother, showed sarcasm, and the ability to be a smart alic in front of my son, cause she had knew I made a complaint, that was supposed to be confidential. When the disrespect started, I told her she could stop, but she wanted the last word, and would not stop. I asked her numerous times to just leave, and she would rather mouth off, and make things worse. The hospital staff did NOTHING of her behavior. She even called me out of my name, and insinuated I was a drug addict, because I requested my pain meds she was trying to avoid giving me, although ordered by the doctor. From the moment she was disrespectful, I refused all meds, and pretended I was in no pain, and felt 100% times better even though I didn't, because it was the only way I was going to be released. You should feel comfortable when you are admitted into the hospital, not to be to feel like garbage, and mistreated by the people who are there to help. I will die before I go back to this hospital for anything. As much as I enjoyed the other nurses, one bad apple spoils the bunch, and I can not comprehend how she could treat a patient this way and have no repercussions. Patients are definitely not their top priority at this hospital. She seemed more fit working in the cafeteria than to be dealing with patients.
If you're in any kind of pain this is not the place to go. I went to emergency room Sunday only reason I would go to the hospital is because I'm in pain. I have medications that my doctor has put me on nothing narcotic but usually works for pain headaches things like that. I caught bronchitis with a touch of pneumonia with flu-like symptoms. Ask to refill my old prescription my primary care taker had given me a year ago and I was in good shape 2 days later they did not do that. did not listen to me. I know my body better than anyone believe me I'm almost 60. Gave me a toradol shot I have toradol at home I told them this again not listening to what I'm saying. I'm not a drug seeker I could care less but if I'm in pain I want a Demerol shot or whatever to get me out of pain I've had for the past 3 days I'm being monitored by a doctor in an emergency room they're taking blood test they know there's no drugs in my system what the fork has it gone this far. doctors are afraid in emergency room under supervision and being monitored for a simple pain shot.??? Ridiculous hateful and malicious I thought their oath was Doctor do no harm? so I go home I'm still coughing they would not authorize a cough syrup without my primary caretaker I told him it did not have to have a narcotic in it I don't care just something to stop coughing because of the bronchitis and pneumonia. They filled nothing but antibiotics and some steroids and not the same as last time I coughed so hard Sunday night I pulled my back out I have to laugh because of such a stupid situation embarrassing and very painful and if I didn't laugh I would be cussing I will never go back to this place in my eyes is not a hospital just a different place to suffer. On top of that the emergency room Doctor who I shall not name because I won't give him any credit for anything said to me if the pain persists to call him well I did and they told me they don't prescribe anything over the phone I would have to come back to the emergency room . No way in hell. why would you tell me to call knowing they're not going to do anything anyway.
Went to ER and then admitted to 5th floor for 4 days inpatient stay for small bowel obstruction. I thought Community North was a joke but this place makes them look good. Was denied an NG tube because I wanted pain management before they inserted it and the doctor refused to provide any. My nasal passage and sinus cavity were tore up previously when they tried to insert one at North so I told them I couldn’t take that kind of pain again. The doctor on my case refused to write the order for versed because it’s against hospital protocol. I asked if it was a medical decision like adverse effects she said no, it was just protocol they didn’t give any type of pain control when placing an NG tube. I told her I couldn’t do it without something. She said fine and walked out. Spent 4 days in the hospital vomiting and in excruciating pain over 20 MG of versed. If it’s good enough practice for hospitals like Cedar Sinai and Cleveland why should a little podunk hospital group like Community do less? Is it because their standards of practice are based more on dollars than compassionate care for their patients. The leadership of this facility in general but the whole organization is sorely lacking. Patients have the right to humane and compassionate care and the to the idiots who decided this protocol was good medical practice I’ll do it right after you do it without pain management. I bet if it was one of your family members it would be a different protocol. Because of my insurance plan Community is my only choice for care unless I want to pay big out-of-pocket for my care. BTW they sent me home with the same pain, same vomiting that I came in with. Never retested to see if the blockage was clear. Which as of today, it isn’t.
I rushed my husband to Community East hospital and we will NEVER be back. He was extremely short of breath, had severe abdominal pain, and couldn’t even walk. I rushed in while friends of ours helped him out of the car and I told the nurse at the Emergency desk that my husband is a post cancer patient and is in severe pain. She gave me a very dirty look and said “We don’t have a room for him.” I said “I will be bringing him regardless because he needs to be seen now.” She scoffed while I walked out to grab him. We got inside and they gave me a buzzer and we stood there and waited while my husband groaned severely in pain for 30 minutes. FINALLY a nurse wants to give him an EKG and check him in. I stood at the counter asking for a room for 20 minutes until they gave us one in emergency. While in emergency, we waited an hour & 45 minutes for a PILLOW! My husband finally got some pain medicine after 2 hours of sitting there doubling over and screaming in pain. It didn’t matter how many times I went to go get a staff member or how many times I hit the call button - no one ever came. Finally a doctor comes in to give results of his CT Scan & he has ACUTE PANCREATITIS! After checking in around 11pm and demanding for a room, we finally moved upstairs at 6am. After you get out of the emergency room, everything is clear sailing and runs smoothly. My husband has been here for almost three days now and I have wanted to take out his IV and take him anywhere else but here since I FIRST walked in. I will never bring my husband to such an awful hospital. Do not bring your spouse or anyone else to this hospital, especially if you are coming in for an emergency.
My father had a stroke almost 1 week ago. When arriving to the ER a few tests were ran. ER nurse said a Neurologist would be by to see him with his results. After all the tests were ran my father was admitted to the Neuro floor. No doctor came by to see my dad with results until almost 48 hours later, two days. Highly frustrating and very unacceptable for someone with stroke symptoms. Two days later when a doctor came by he ordered another MRI. The next day the doctor came by confirming a stoke. A stoke was confirmed 3 days after it happened. The Neuro doctor ordered a heart rate monitor to go home with and someone would call on March 3rd. No call was received. Later that day my father called the office and left a voice mail. No one called back. Another call was made a day after that and still no call back. My father went to the office to ask about the monitor that was supposed to issued and they told him they cant help him because it was ordered while he was inpatient. Also very irritating. After my dad was discharged he relaxed he left one of his personal belongings in his room. My mom called the unit and they said they would hold it for them till my dad could come get it. My dad went today to get the item and the nursing staff seemed bothered to even look for it. They opened a few drawers and said they don't have it. During his stay the nursing staff and care team were nice and helpful. I can't believe this is how this hospital is ran and how the staff of the unit value their patients personal belongings. Very unhappy with this experience with it already being a stressful diagnosis and then the lack of care and compassion that follows.
Community hospital east emergency room is terrible! Its very ghetto! Avoid going here!! The nurses are very rude and they highly lack customer service!! They're so unorganized. Expect a very long wait even if you're in dying pain, they don't care. I understand waiting is apart of the game but even After my long wait in the lobby, when I was finally brought back to a room, I waited back there over 3 hours in severe pain with out a nurse or Dr to come see me. I saw people walk past my room, I was in so much pain I finally got up to ask someone for help. Seeing my pain they continued to ignore me, and continued to inform me a Dr will be right in...After hours of waiting in pain for someone to help me, I finally left. I could've sat in my own bed at home in pain with out help, Would've been cheaper. after seeking better help with a different facility I was diagnosed with sever medical problems. No thanks to community east hospital to treat me, they just left me back in a room to rot. (Hypothetically speaking) they left me in a room, nobody came in to help me..probably made my sickness worse! they will have you leaving that hospital and not actually diagnosing the real issues of your pain! The nurses were very unprofessional, they have attitudes checking you in like they want to fight you! It's a mad house!!! Take my word and avoid this emergency room!!!!!
HORRIBLE service. I woke up at 5AM in horrible lower back pain like I had never had before (Kidney stones) I thought I was dying. I had an ambulance rush me to Community hospital in hope for pain relief and answers. I was left laying in a room for close to 20 minutes screaming and crying in pain with nurses walking by my room giving my wife and I dirty looks. I was in so much pain and so scared, we honestly thought I was dying! When the doctor finally did come in the room, he was short with us, and raised his voice at my wife. He was in the room for maybe 45 seconds, and said he was going to have a nurse bring pain medicine, and take me down for a CT scan, (which was a bad experience in itself, because they left me laying in the room, half naked, cold, and alone, in pain for another 20 minutes.) When my wife tried asking the doctor questions, he responded, saying "I'm not going to argue with you" and stormed out of the room. In the end, they gave me a small amount of pain medicine, and sent me home. I wish they could have resolved this issue, because it is now the next day and I am running out of pain medicine, and I am still in pain from this kidney stone that I have yet to pass. I'll never go back to community!
Terrible condescending service, horrible profiling and subsequent treatment from the very unnecessary and way beyond uneducated "head of security". Treated like a thief- I was REFUSED a newly deceased loved one's personal belongings after his passing, EVEN AFTER PRESENTING THEM WITH PROPER POWER OF ATTORNEY PAPERWORK AT THE DOOR!!! The security gaurd and several "orderlies" attempted to provoke me while already in a heartbreaking situation, telling me Id get my friends belongings "when the body makes it to a funeral home" however what they never took time to understand was that I WAS THE ONLY NEXT OF KIN FOR THE FRIEND THAT PASSED AND HIS PREPLANNED FUNERAL INFORMATION AND CREMATION INFORMATION WAS ALL CONTAINED THEREIN. LEAVING ME IN A DEPRESSED, DEFEATED, AND COMPLETELY ISOLATED STATE OF MIND THAT IM STILL APALLED BY EVEN TODAY. FOR SHAME TO CONSIDER YOURSELF A "PUBLICLY SERVING HOSPITAL OR ANY ENTITY OF GOOD" OF ANY KIND. I would rather sit with ANY kind of people and WAIT MY TURN AND DRIVE ALL THE WAY TO THE WESTSIDE to be treated with dignity, respect and consideration by knowledgable, concerned, approachable non-judging medical staff and physicians at ESKENAZI HOSPITAL ANY DAY OF THE WEEK
STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS HOSPITAL IF YOU ARE A POC. I came to the hospital via ambulance on Sunday August 8th with serious complications from COVID (Temperature of nearly 103, Pulse 120, And Bp of 145/101 and severe chest pain.) They made me sit in the waiting room full of people including children for over an hr! Any when they finally took me back they put me an uncomfortable chair that made me sick to my stomach. She eventually gave me Tylenol and Zofran which did nothing for me. Shelby the Nurse Practitioner would not listen to any of my concerns. I had to beg for a chest X-ray that they refused to give me the results to. As well as the blood work that I specifically asked for. She wrote me useless prescriptions for things I could buy over the counter. Nothing for my BP or chest pain. I had some kind of reaction to the Zofran that made my knees and elbows burn and my feet swell and change color but she said she “didn’t see it.” I’ll include pictures. All they cared about was my oxygen levels (not at all the reason I came) saying 95 is normal when I’ve never had it go below 98. Please don’t bring your love ones here they will send them home to die and not care one bit
Worst hospital I have ever been to. Was admitted for a week a few years back. i had a horrible nurse who insinuated I was a drug addict for asking her to hook my iv up after it had been unhooked for 3 hours so I could shower. She was not putting the meds through the iv correctly which made a grapefruit size lump on my arm. The head nurse came in and immediately took it out, and my vein was still attached to the needle. She said it was from putting the medicine in too fast. My mother came to visit and when it was time for more antibiotics, my mom told her to do it slowly so it would't happen again, and the nurse started mocking my mother and being really rude. Never got better, went to Methodist and had to have surgery. Went to the er today. Waited 4 hours, and was never even called to have my vitals taken, although no one was in front of me. However, every single person who came in after me, were taken to have theirs taken within minutes. I just left. I couldn't make it any where else today. Now I'm home bleeding, in more pain than I was earlier. This hospital is a joke. If you are having a medical emergency, your best bet is to go anywhere but this hospital.
Where to begin... Besides billing me no insurance numerous times over 3 months before turning me into collections even though I was told every other week that they will bill my insurance I kept getting no insurance bills. Then when my son went they asked for his insurance card and walked away with it talking to another employee and came back asking for the insurance card they just walked away with and claimed to never have received it when 2 other people besides myself watched her walk away with it. Then the fact the visit they billing me for they have no record of a visit anymore and tell me I was never in the ER. My lab work is also gone from records for the visit. But I still have the doctor's note from that visit on my file. Then my future lab work references that "missing" visit as well as a comparison to current lab work. Then the icing on the cake I just found out I have had a growth in my lower right lung for at the very least 6 years over multiple visits and NO ONE thought of even mentioning that to me.
I didn't go into the East location but my experience was with my Family Practitioner office. I called this morning at 8:30 am and told them that I've had a sore throat with lymph node swelling for about almost 6 months and had to put off getting examined because of the Covid -19 situation. I found out that my doctor at this practice is out for maternity leave. So I spoke with the triage nurse who was going to get one of the 8 or 9 doctors to fit me in sometime today (9/28/20). I am sure I have a chronic infection and I need antibiotics. But hey guess what? It's almost 4:07 pm and no one has called me to have me come in to be examined. Now this is almost 7 hours ago and no response from this office. I have never, ever had this happen to me before. I am not a person who would let this situation go like this except for the fact that no doctor was in their offices during the pandemic anyway and I was very afraid of coming down with the new virus. I guess I was triaged alright right to end of the list.
By far the worst experience I've ever had at a hospital. My father went to their emergency room at 2pm per his Nephrologist's orders. He is a insulin dependent person. He was not able to eat until almost 8:45pm. He also has very high blood pressure and administered a Saline Bolus, which increase it more, by the way! So after all that's said and done, his nurse Christianna, stuck her hand in his bag and started grabbing his property. She did not ask if he was carrying medications, she did not ask to search through his bag. I'm unaware of the policy at Community East, but I'm sure you can't go searching people without consent. From the time he got there around 2pm until the time he left 9:15-9:30, he didn't see the doctor until he got irate w the nurse around 9:15pm. At the end of it all, he decided to leave and the doctors main concern was it being HIS fault and it's his decision to leave. They didn't give an option to change nurses to deescalate the situation. Two thumbs down for this hospital.
I was approached by security because I had fallen asleep and interrogated ended up getting beaten my nose broke get me to jail Joe wouldn't even accept me because I was beaten so badly and sent me back to the hospital for an evaluation once returning back to the jail after having been in handcuffs for over seven hours after being beaten I passed out inside the jail hit my head on a concrete wall left unsupervised get to mycell there's no running water so community hospital East get ready cuz you're going to pay me for what you did and you made a 70 year old man with lung cancer walk in heat ninety-degree heat to find his own vehicle you should be ashamed of yourself officer Mann. Everything's on video now they tried to suppress it but it was ordered by the judge they release it so doing have to drop the charges against me cuz it proves I didn't do what they said I did had to unnecessary surgeries there just because I'm on disability I feel like this place should be shut down
!!!Zero stars!!! ~ I was seen at Community East Hospital 3/2/2019 and was misdiagnosed!! I ended up getting and a major infection cellulitis (MRSA). I was admitted for 3 days and billed about $10k. To keep this review short but not sweet, the physician (g) that seen me on my initial visit did not investigate my symptoms or run any blood work. He was in and out of my room in 5 minutes and didn’t wear any gloves. I am a nurse and I am so disgusted with the service I received at this Horrible Hospital. I was contacted by the hospital’s patient experience department and I am still waiting for a follow up call. If this hospital does not resolve my issue I will gather up some people and picket along with getting channel 6 news involved. This hospital is a joke and should be held accountable for their mistreatment of the patients that put trust in them to provide quality care!!! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOSPITAL TO MY WORST ENEMY!!!
A year ago in June my husband came home from work not feeling well from inhaling sawdust at work, he was taken to community east emergency where upon entering his name taken, blood pressure through the roof, and vomiting in a bag on his knees on the floor and the most rude, heartless lady who was doing intake that afternoon around 4:30 shrugged her shoulders and acted as if she was irritated by my husband's sickness..unbeknownst to her he was actively having a heart attack! Having to be rushed to Community North (where they were polite) to immediate surgery for 2 heart stents making it able for him to see his birthday within the same month. My advice to community east..get you compassionate people to work who's heart is in it..for even a year later i remember the receptionist foul, unprofessional, rude facial expressions and tone till this day. No one in my family will ever go there again..take your loved one's elsewhere!
Absolute worst hospital ever . If I could give 0 star I would. I’m COVID positive and experienced short of breath and heaviness on my chest I come to the emergency room since noon after 3 hours they still cannot give me a room and they don’t care. They are able to find room for some people who came after me. I went to the front desk to remind them that I’m here 3 hours ago why they cannot find a room for me yet while the lady on the front desk trying to help me out another one came and said she’s COVID positive and now they are just said sorry we don’t have room available yet and we don’t know when we going to have any room available, like they almost ask me to go back to my house. If my situation getting worse I will do what I will have to do with them ! They are not human . Staff are incompetent, cold, and negligent. I would risk the time it took to get to another hospital before going here.
When I arrived I was in horrible pain! I had an abscess and it was bulging! The doctor said he had an idea on where the infection was being held and wanted to do an incision! He began and to my knowledge, he cut me in the wrong place! He and the nurse left when the noticed the same! The nurse told me she would bff we back and she had to get gauze to bandage my cut! She never came back and there was blood everywhere! I hit the call light after 30 minutes of sitting there! She came in with medication scripts and told me to use a gauze and that I could keep what I didn’t use, then walked right out! I felt horrible, I just want to scream! I was in so much pain because I still have the abscess with an incision so my pain has tripled! But most importantly I felt I was treated less than human. They show no concern for my health and treated me like a piece of steak! I will never return here never!
If I could I'd not give this hospital any stars. The maternity part has no communication amongst each other.. they all say something different, and I had my 2nd c section & this whole experience has been horrible. They mis dosed me wrong for 4 days without realizing their mistake. And they want to involve dcs with everything I understand certain circumstances needing involved but threatening dcs bc we want to leave after 3 days when our daughter has passed all the tests she's healthy and we are ready to go home but they force things & basically take away our rights and decisions as parents with our babies. We have no choices here its there way only and they've proven their way makes some pretty BIG MISTAKES. The only good thing over here is dr. Sanders he was great delivering both my girls. And the staff is all nice but they need to get there communication and everyone on same page.
I was there starting April 13, 2023. Went to the E.R with O2 at 65. The woman that checked us in acted with no concern. She did get a bed for me right away. Don't expect to get treated by Doctors there. All Nurses or medical techs. Doctors are reading the computers. I had five doctors in three days. All new to me. Same questions everyday. And when asked a question they seem not to believe my answer. They treated me more as a disabled old man. Would not even give me the bed controls. To say the least, I have a plan for the next time I go and they are not going to like it. BTW they are using medical tech for things that nurses should be doing to you. was a little upset. To top it all off, when I was released, the next morning I had six phone calls from Community. Wow give me some time to rest up. they would not listen to what I had to say even if I had backup with another department.
I went to community East without consulting with friends of family two days in a row and it was a very negative experience both times. From getting checked in, staff was rude and negative. check out it was like a scary movie also so I asked to be discharged against medical advice. The gentleman who tried to draw blood was not experienced, and I was left in pain for hours with no comfort or hope from anyone who worked there. His words were “This will make you feel better” in a cunning manner that was so scary. No assistant or female staff accompanied him (not to mention I did not know WHAT he was doing or why). I went to Community North the very next night and was treated so much better (literal 360) and discharged within 1 hour and 30 mins if that, Do not go to community East if you are having an emergency. It will stress you more than anything. I hope this helps someone.
I like the hospital depending on the staff on duty. I did have a terrible experience but I wouldn't so much blame them too much I went into this ER about 5/6 times with a severe pain under my rib, I was vomiting everything even water, I eventually lost weight and come to find out I had a gull stone the size of my gull batter. If they would have found it the first time I would have been able to take medicine to pass it but after months they finally got an ultrasound and removed it. But that wasn't the end of it because they for some odd reason didn't charge my insurance I am responsible for paying it back which I don't like. Other than that as many times I have been in the ER you would think they would get tired of me but they are for the most part very nice.
We found ourselves in a unique situation... I got appendicitis while we were driving from Kansas to DC. But our experience at this hospital was excellent! The nurses and physicians were outstanding and all very kind. I was able to get my procedure / a room relatively fast. My only issue was the intake nurse at the ER... he had me jump up and down to "diagnose" my appendicitis. It wasn't overly painful for me, so he concluded I didn't have it... and so it took a little longer for me to be seen. As it turns out, I did have appendicitis but they operated on it quickly after they found out. Other than that, Community Hospital East was there for us when we needed it!
Never would I ever recommend going to their ER. I was referred by Urgent Care to the ER for a CT scan after being in a car accident. The wait times were extreme (5 hours from start to finish). The nurses were rude and not helpful. No one checked in on me while I waited in the room. My room was also right next to the nurse’s station, where I heard the nurses talking badly about patients and cussing the entire time I was there. Extremely unprofessional. The doctor told me I “probably have a concussion” and told me to go home and take ibuprofen and drink water. I don’t feel like anyone there actually cared about my wellbeing or the wellbeing of anyone else.
Waited for 5 hours to only be doped up with fentanyl and dilaudid and sent home with NO RESOLUTION just more pain meds . Doctor was in my room for maybe 3 minutes the whole time I was there never asked if I had questions nor did they even give me the option to ask a question before running out of the room . Then I learned I have a cyst on my ovary FROM THE MY CHART APP . They never told me . Go to a different hospital and found out what is causing my pain ( which if left untreated CAN CAUSE INFERTILITY ) Would never recommend this hospital , not even if I was dying .
Came to the Emergency room for service and the waiting room was empty except 2 people. I stood in line (no one before or after me) and watched 4 nurses at the desk just stand there and talk without greeting me; I waited in line for 5 minutes. As I turned to walk away I heard someone ask “Do you need to see a doctor sir?!” First time at this ER and hopefully my last. Would not recommend based on this level of service. Ironically, I had a surgical procedure done at this facility a couple of weeks ago and the service was excellent. Definitely night and day.
I would give it zero stars if possible. My family member was recently admitted & they lost his wallet, after he was taken to his room. We were told it was given to a family member but it was not given to anyone who was there or who came to the hospital. When my family member was discharged we could not find his clothes that were in his room the previous day. When asked about them we were told he never had these items with him. This hospital did not provide our family with help locating the clothes or an explanation as to what happened to the clothes.
My dog is infested with hook worms, which makes sense that I have contracted them. I took the worm in a zip lock with me and the doctor looks at me and says worm infested people do not exists in America? That a joke, I think America might have a few hook worms..lol My dog was highly infested. They said take some antibiotics we will subscribe. This is the 4th time they keep giving me antibiotics and laugh at my evidence (worm in bag) refused to look at it and sent me on my way. I just wanted some help, so sad :(
I love this hospital however the police that drive around need to pay attention to the people that are parking in the handicapped spots. Every car in the spot didn’t have a tag. Also, valet parking spots shouldn’t be marked valet. The spots are handicapped spots. They have ramps next to them. I had to park in a regular spot and park my elderly mom’s wheelchair behind my car… she is a fall risk. It was very aggravating and disheartening. I saw the police driving around but too fast to flag them.
A Humongous THANK YOU to the emergency room doctor on staff, Dr. Jim Harris and the Nurse who took care of patients in room 20 (emergency room) on Monday, May 23, 2022 for the OUTSTANDING care my elderly mothe, Ms. Upshaw received. Dr. Jim Harris is a God send, and a stellar physician. He made sure I knew every step taken concerning my mother's care and follow up care. I live in South Carolina and Dr. Jim Harris really set my mind at ease. THANK YOU!!! Sooooooo Very Much, Dr. Jim Harris
Of course we had an emergency so, we came to community east. My son who is 15 needed to be rushed into surgery and I was so nervous. The emergency room doctor can be compared to televisions HOUSE. He knew exactly what to do and the nurses were the best that day. I’ve had a child at community east also. I’m gonna say they can do no wrong. He’s healing and we are home. My 15 year old the size of a grown a** man. Lol! But my baby. I thank the people that helped us.
Worst experience ever. Slowest staff in the entire world. Husband came in with hypothermia (91.7 degree temp) chills, sweating, etc. white blood cell and lactate were very high. Literally kept us 24 hours and basically said “we don’t know. Goodbye.” We’re told we were getting a CT scan for 12 hours and they NEVER did one. When the dr. finally came in to talk to us he acted like he knew nothing about it and sent us home. Will never go here again.
I had a very serious DVT and during my 6 day stay and treatment I never once thought that I wasn't being accorded the finest of care and treatment. The nurses, doctors and support staff were/are some of the nicest and most caring people I have ever met. I will always be appreciative of how well these folks treated and cared for me. I am truly grateful for their returning me to being on the road to good health. Thank you.
Currently admitted. Started in the ER, was seen immediately, and the nurses and doctors were absolutely amazing. Have since been moved to inpatient, and yet again, the nurses and doctors are absolutely amazing. Im from Nashville, so I'm used to Vanderbilt care, this hospital has far exceeded every experience I've ever had at Vandy. I cannot thank these wonderful men and women enough for the care they have given me.
If I could give this hospital a ZERO I would. Only 5 stars would be for the 2 nurses Alyssa and Grace... The PA I had NEVER once came and check on me. I waited 3 hours to get my discharge paperwork while she was dealing with the intoxicated people! I put my light on 2X and the TECH answered the light, but NEVER told the nurse I needed her. ABSOLUTELY horrible place and I will NEVER step foot back in this ER!!
The breast diagnostic center does not allow anyone else in there when you arrive with a family member who has an appointment. No sign stating that when you enter the offer and the receptionist was very rude about asking me to leave. If no one is allowed in the waiting room it should be posted. And don't be rude to the patient because they want a family member there. Would recommend to go somewhere else..
Please if you come here have someone come with you I came in about 2am on Sunday couldn't breathe. They gave me a valium shot in my arm and twisted it as she was pushing in.Gave me a painpill sent me home. Had to get rushed back for pnemonia nurse was so abusive I still have scars from 2 weeks ago, gave me a covid test without my consent this hospital is hurting more than helping, first do no harm.
I had a life threatening emergency a week ago. I only had time to dial 911 and call my daughter but could not talk to either.the last thing i remembered was a fireman coming in my door. I wwoke up hours later at Community East ER. With doctors and nurses around me . i feel they saved my lifeand I cant express how grateful i am for that and care and concern i was shown. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
PLEASE READ!!!! I went in at 5:00pm for myself & my 7year old we were in the lobby/waiting room until 8:37pm I barely was able to drive there so with that being said worst experience ever the staffs very unprofessional & careless! If you have an emergency do not go there God will call you before they do & they wouldn’t let me leave a 0 ⭐️ So I’ll leave it here 0⭐️
I love this hospital. I was treated exceptionally well by the entire staff during my stay. I continue to receive outstanding treatment on each and every visit, even during random phone calls and messages. They've so far done an amazing job taking the stress away from being in the hospital and needing treatments and such. The free parking there is very nice also.
Literally got out bed after going to urgent care for a sharp pain becuase my pain got significantly worse. I go in because of fhe possibilities of it being my appendix. Waited 5 1/2 hours and wasted money i needed just to get no diagnosis and sent home. At least a wild west doctor would at least do something. Gonna get fired due to this. Thank you.
My grandmother received THE BEST care in the ICU and then cardio pulmonary unit. Every nurse was caring and took their time to explain things thoroughly. The cafeteria had great food, and the little coffee shop was good. Only complaint would be the emergency and waiting rooms. However, I know they are under construction so it’s likely to improve.
I went with my boyfriend for severe stomach pain and non stop vomiting, Bailey was his nurse, she had blonde hair and glasses and was very rude, she accused him of being an alcoholic and he doesn't even drink, he was throwing up blood and she also accused him of making himself vomit as I was holding the puke cup. Very rude. So we checked out.
My boyfriend had a glass window incident his face was bleeding everywhere he waited 2hrs in er without treatment and a nurse seriously told him to stop bleeding on the floor. Friends of mine have also said handling pregnancy issues resulted in many bad problems. This ER has serious horror stories and I'm scared to walk in those doors.
Too many different hospitalists and they don’t communicate very well with each other, as well as some of the nursing staff. Phlebtomist very loud for 2:30 am disturbing the whole floor, could hear her coming. Continually have to put bedrails up on a fall risk. Unfortunately this was the closest hospital to go to for an emergency.
Its a nurse name Shirley, she works on the er side.... she was the best nurse . Very compassionate , everything she said she was going to do, she did in a timely fashion . Im so grateful to have had her a nurse ..and her accent is jus to darn cute. You guys pray you get her as a nurse if you ever go in. You'll be in good hands
Absolute worst hospital and nursing staff. My father had spinal surgery and they left him in agony, denying him any type of relief. This is after the nerve block failed. Nurses are incompetent, cold, and negligent. I would risk the time it took to get to another hospital before going here. Stay clear if you can.
Community Hospital East Labor and Delivery Unit has got by far the best staff imaginable. Everyone who I encountered was extremely kind and made me feel comfortable even though it was a complicated delivery. Everyone working during my stay was so just so uplifting, and I have such gratitude towards them all.
The staff is very lovely and they took great care of me. I was having anxiety and they were very reassuring every step of the way. Very good explaining what was going on and what they needed to do. And they are continuing to check on me and provide me with blankets and pillows while im being monitored.
They definitely need to have bedside manner training. I’m not saying that all the doctors and nurses there are bad but the majority of them truly seem burned out. I tried to have sympathy for them, especially after covid, but when you come in there with true pain a little compassion wouldn’t hurt.
If I could give zero stars I would. I am so beyond upset. I brought my daughter in tonight because she was coughing to the point she could NOT breathe and she threw up and continued to cough after. All the did was an x-ray and send us home. I am so over this hospital and will NEVER come back.
I recently dislocated my ankle and thought they did an awesome job. They were all nice and fun to talk with and the procedure was completely pain free popping my ankle back in. I would definitely come back in the future if I needed to go to the ER but hopefully I'll stay healthy for a while.
Community East has greatly changed over the years. They have become more efficient and friendly in the ER Dept. Their out patient offices have made it so much easier to stay close to home. They take every precaution to keep you safe and healthy. I am hoping to try their new cafeteria soon.
In labor & delivery.. there is a nurse name Kristina and she is simply AMAZING!!! OMG SHE IS EVERYTHING! SHE MADE LABOR AND DELIVERY FOR MY DAUGHTER IN LOVE AWESOME!! If I could've given her $1000 & flowers.. edible arrangement... another full pandora bracelet.. that's not enough!!
My baby was diagnosed with jaundice and neutropenia. We were admitted to the nicu at community hospital east and had to go back for several blood drawls. The staff, nurses, and doctors were phenomenal, I can not thank them enough for their care and compassion. Absolutely amazing!
I cannot say enough good things about this hospital. Thank you to the ICU department. I have never met a better nursing staff in my life. You guys are awesome. A big thank you to Rager, Shauna and Kim for taking great care of my dad. Good hospitals are hard to find these days.
Husband had surgery, doc suggested this hospital and they definitely took care of him. Care team checked in frequently, calls were taken care of in a reasonable time... Amazing Care Team!!! Room was clean and well maintained, room service was quick and delicious.
We received compassionate and prompt care with a minimal wait in the ER. Both the nurse and physician were excellent in their roles. I’m grateful to have this 24 hour hospital in our neighborhood, especially given the lack of 24 hour urgent care services in Indy.
This hospital is amazing! My OB/GYN, Dr. Zambrano, is the best and my birthing experience was great as well. When I had my son, they were extremely helpful and caring. They stuck to my preferred “birth plan” and made sure to keep me informed during every step.
I had my baby at East Hospital year ago. It was great experience even though it was my first delivery and not really smooth. Dr Wheeler is professional . All the nurses were attentive and patient. Generally all the stuff are the best!!! Thank you …
I took my ten year old to the er for abdominal pain and the doctor made me and my child feel really uncomfortable having my child take pregnancy test and constantly asking if she can hold food down. Which holding food down wasn't one of her
The main hospital is great, especially labor and delivery. If you need emergency care, however, expect to literally wait 10 hours for them to tell you they don't know what to do for you even during an admitted crisis situation. Jake, one of
Some people use the emergency room as a Drs office. Why is this not treated like what it is supposed to be. You go in and you are in pain no one cares. When you finally do get in the nurses were great. My biggest problem it the waiting room
I just left this hospital with a blood pressure of 215/133 and was rushed to the back the doctor was amazing until I had a nurse Kerry come and walk in while my fiancé hands me a ice cube she instantly stated stop it or I will Take it from
Had an operation in Jan. 2020 when i woke up my 2 front teeth were broken out.... the operation was for a foot sore. I talked to several people about this ....there is no communication at all at this hospital a month later get a call from
Slowest ER in Indianapolis! RNs show zero empathy and have no regard to others pain. I am convinced they make you wait in the waiting room for hours just so they can bill insurance after having you checked in for a certain amount of time.
ER tech/nurse was cold, rude and uncaring about the severe pain the patient was in. There were alternatives to trying to force him to get in a chair when simply turning onto his back caused the pain to get even worse. She could have used
Some of the kindest nurses and doctors I've ever seen. They found a serious heart issue whe that wasn't even why I was there. The whole staff I dealt with were patient and kind. If the doctor hadn't found my heart problem I would've just
Very very high strung unprofessional security guys with badges. Love to escalate to highest advantage to their feelings. Oh your not aloud to record them either LOL. Or ask for their names and badge numbers. Or they'll beat you up arrest
I just want to thank everyone that helped me out early morning 1/29/21. I had bad abdominal pain and thought I may need surgery. They got me in right away and everyone was kind & professional. Only thing I would prefer to see is for the
I'm winning for contesting no waiting was treatI'm winning for contesting no waiting was treatedI'm winning for contesting no waiting was treated wonder wonderful wonderful with resp with respect with respect community great clean modern
Labor and delivery/nicu (nurses and doctors) are excellent. After my delivery turned into a nightmare the doctor that night did everything to save my baby and my life. Thank you everyone really good hospital for maternity. …
There is much better treatment than the other two primary hospitals. Eskinazi is a pit! Very kind and helpful staff at the hospital. My doctor is an awesome doctor. He has given me new faith in doctors!!!!
They took very care of me , thankyou so much to all the staff I greatly appreciate you all ! been coming to this hospital since I was 8 years old I was always very taken care of , thankyou!
Tori the emergency tech with the man hair cut has a ghetto attitude. And needs to dress more appropriately for work. Her attitude is ghetto like the hospital.
I'm always treated with respect at community East hospital and in the E.R love the doctors and nurses and housekeepers everyone else thank you so much
Place and dam joke daughter waited on ultrasound tech for 5 + hours and know one know what so going on community hospital is trash
Super great experience in labor and delivery! Love all the nurses there and the standard of care they provide is above and beyond!
Please if you have to go in to the emergency department I would choose another hospital this place is so nasty …
Had To Wait 4Hrs. They Don't Even See My Granddaughter 20mins We Outta There, She's Still Hurting ♀️ …
Dr Michelle Murphy was hands down the best obgyn that I’ve ever had out of my 2 pregnancies
The pace was clean. My doctor's appointment was on time, but check out took a little long.
They really don’t need a star at all.. nothing good to say at all the ER is a nightmare
Great sometimes there's wait even when you have an they are courteous and helpful
Very clean. They are using masks again. In prep for the new covid
