There are lots of reasons why I think Avis service is awful, here are just a selection: The queue at Frankfurt airport is absolutely diabolical: I have rented a car for the past 4 weeks and it takes at least 25 minutes each time to queue to pick up the keys for the car. I have no idea why this should be the case - the process doesn't need to take more than 2 minutes per customer. You have been overcharging me for weeks: when I book the hire car through the BA website, it clearly states that the CDW, TP and Service Charge will all be included in the cost of the rental and yet when I get the invoice I have been charged AGAIN for this and also VAT. This takes the cost of the rental from the EU180 advertised on the BA website to over EU300 in reality. I have registered this issue with BA and Avis and nothing has been done. You overcharge for repairs. When I returned my car two weeks ago, there was a scratch on the hubcap. The invoice I received stated the cost of repairs at over EU450. For a scratch on the hubcap. After asking for a copy of the repair receipt so I could understand where the cost came from I was sent an email a week later saying that the cost of the repairs was actually EU25 and I had been refunded the difference. Three days later I have still not received the refund - and frankly I'm not confident that if I hadn't queried the claim I would have been told the true cost of the repairs. Your customer service is completely ineffective: I lost my wallet at Frankfurt airport this week after using it at the Avis counter. I tried to call through to ask whether anyone had handed it in, but apparently all of the representatives were busy. I spoke to someone from the central hub who told me that he would send an email to the desk team and they would call me within an hour. Of course this didn't happen. Concerned as I was that I might have to cancel all my cards, I continued to call the airport desk throughout the day and each time was assured that they would *urgently* call me back but they are *very* busy at the moment. Since I still hadn't heard from them at the end of the day, I drove back to Frankfurt airport. Imagine my surprise when I arrived at the desk and there was no one whatsoever waiting at the counter, and instead all three Avis staff were sitting there doing nothing. They claimed they had not received any emails from the central team. Overall, your service is terrible. I would not recommend Avis to anyone, ever.
I made a reservation - 04236413AU6, for a vehicle in category E (Mercedes C Class, etc) to pick up from the Mainz Avus office. The only reason I booked the pickup from Mainz and not from Frankfurt Haubtbahnhof is because Avis did not have any vehicles available from either the Haubtbahnhof or Airport locations. This was despite booking a few days in advance. So we took a 1 hour train to Mainz, and walked the 15 minutes from the train station to find that the Mainz office did not actually have any cars in class E available!! The poor guy at the office couldn't speak a word of English, so I had to talk to him in my basic German. He tried to explain that there were no cars in class E available, and so we had been "upgraded" to a SEAT people mover. I'm sorry but that is most definitely NOT an upgrade, and a SEAT is no where near equivalent to a Mercedes-Benz, BMW or Audi. I was more than happy to pay much more to get a German car, but that was literally the only car Avis had available! So because of Avis we wasted about 3 hours and 32 Euro of travelling for nothing. I thought the whole point of reserving a car was so it was actually reserved! Or that if the booking system says that is is available, then it should be actually available! On the train back to Frankfurt I managed to reserve a BMW 3 series with Sixt on my phone. Unbelievably Sixt still had quite a few cars available from Frankfurt Haubtbahnhof to pick up that same day. The main reason I rented with Avis is because I had rented with them the week prior and had a good experience, but after this nightmare I will NEVER be renting with Avis again.
Read Carefully if returning the car after hours! If you execute the directions perfectly, you can handle the diy car return in 10 minutes. Since you're reading for for info I'd probably leave a full 15-20 minutes. 1) You'll drive to the south side of the train station to parking garage Süd (Searching "stadtmobile" and picking the one on the Southside was in the correct spot). (there are about 3 parking garages, make sure you pick the one that has giant red signs that say "Einfahrt" in white letters) 2) You will park on the 9th floor. (it is important to note that the garage is only like 5 stories tall when you are looking for it, but each half story is counted as a full story.) 3) You must write on the parking garage ticket your parking number and then grab your Document booklet and keys, both. 4) you go the the ground floor and walk into the train station. 5) In the very middle of the train station is a very large hallway that leads away from the trains. If you get there and start walking towards the exit at the end of the long hallway, on your right, you will see the car rental places right near the exit. There, you'll see the drop boxes. Drop it in and catch your train. It isn't wildly difficult. But I only managed to piece it together thanks to reading all the reviews and piecing together the steps. You've got this. Good luck. Car was clean and fine. Book avis online for better prices (even if you're at the shop, book it on your phone). They should really email you directions for the drop off though.
3-stars because it’s almost impossible to find the return location if you rented at different location! I describe that below. I can’t comment on the rental process at Avis here. The return went fine once I finally figured out where to return the vehicle. It is very poorly described on the Avis website and there are no signs directing you on the streets or the building (unlike at airports). Only a problem for one-way renter, but still! And the lack signage is not unique to Avis since most companies share the location. Car Rental Return at Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof (main train station) for Avis/Budget, Europcar, Hertz and Sixt is located in the large parking ramp on the south or left side of the train station (as you face it) at the intersection of Mannheimer Str. and Stuttgarter Str. The ramp entrance (Einfahrt) and exit (Ausfahrt) are both on Stuttgarter Str. which is one-way; approach on Mannheimer and turn onto Stuttgarter. Drive up the gate at the Einfahrt, take the parking ticket, and the ramp door will open. Then you will see the sign directing you to drive up to Level 6 or higher for car returns. Avis is on Level 9. Park on any open spot, note the number on your parking ticket, collect the vehicle and rental documents, keys, lock the vehicle and take the elevator to the street and walk into the station to the rental counters and key drop in the center front hall. Your car is not inspected while you are there so maybe take photos for your own protection.
Avis car rental at Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof scammed me in June 2016. I had everything pre-arranged through an internet booking for a three-week trip rental. Coming in with family from Laos - where I live- arriving in time to pick up the car, the person at the counter tried to sell me extra insurance (which I did not need), then he said we had to add a second driver and added 200 Euros to the account (coded). I did not agree, but after a one-hour standoff he still would not release the car. Afraid to miss my family booking in Austria, and the rest of the three-week trip , I had to sign off in order to get moving. On day two, the car requested an oil refill. After email exchange, Avis agreed to pay for it after the rental period. Have had several email exchanges with Avis after the rental, Avis is very un-accommodating, trying to confuse bills and codes, but definitly not willing to pay me back for the 200 Euro bogus charge or the oil replacement. Personally, I consider this as being extorted where Avis helt my three-week trip as ransom in order to scam 200 Euros from me.
RENTER BEWARE !!!! Rented a car for a month and returned it with absolutely no damage. Due to an early train, I needed to use the key drop. A few weeks after returning home to Canada I get a bill for 536.99 Euro for damage to the car!! I am now told from Avis that I'll hear from someone in 15-45 days about this! This is a complete fraud!!!!!!!! Update: The charge consists of two damages, one scratch to a mirror that I have a photo of upon car pickup, the other is a 26-50mm superficial scratch that could be buffed out and was also most likely there prior to pickup but was so unnoticeable that I didn't take a picture of it. The letter of damage asks "were you possibly involved in a collision?" It really is an unbelievable situation as they continue to claim that the charges are valid and try closing the case. It has been reported as fraud to Visa, and I will not stop with Avis until my full refund is processed.
Only retuned the car to this location as it was a one-way rental. It was scary at first because there was no one to inspect the car. You just get to the garage, park the car at one of their spots and return the keys and documents at the desk inside the station. Once you leave, then they will inspect the car. However, I have no issues. I am giving four stars because I spent like 20 minutes searching for the parking deck to return the car. It is not identified (at least not in english) and they did not answer the phone. Parking deck is located southwest of the train station.
Not friendly and not helpful. They changed the pick up station themselves to this one at hbf because of their own "technical issues". Then they asked me to pay extra (because of the new location)and also asked for a credit card (I chose the option of "no credit card" at my booking). Since 5 days they are not answering to the request of the dealer company to confirm the situation. So i don't know at all if I can get a car on my day of travel. The stress was not worth at all for few euros cheaper than another "provider" who respects their customers.
Return at Frankfurt train station was easy, thanks to the detailed guidance from the reviews below. To ensure a smooth process on return make sure you include 1. The garage parking ticket, with the lot number where you parked written down 2. A receipt from your final re-fuel (at a gas station within 20km). I found Avis office staff at Frankfurt to be polite and efficient. The final bill was exactly as in the contract, with no extra charges. Would use them again.
The bald hair man with the glasses was the worst customer service ever. When we asked a him question, he just said “Google it, google is your friend dont ask me, I am not your google” in a very rude way. Then he raised his voice and still did not answer our question. Maybe we were asking for a service that Avis does not provide, he could answer in a polite way and could inform us, because that’s why he is here…to answer and inform.
For car return: This place is hard to find and they do not answer the phone. I fixed it on Google, I hope it will work. You have to go into the south (Sud ) garage and drive all the way up to the 9th floor. After that you have to walk inside the main train station and return the key and parking pass you receive when entered the parking garage.
Giving dirty car and lying someone will take responsibility at the parking platz and nobody is there, seriously??? Wthehell?? Worst service ever, rude employee "Murat" you better get more education and you better provide serious service. This company need to learn a lot to reach "europcar" and "Herz". Never ever again Avis:(((((
Was war passiert?

Awful services. We were waiting for 15-20 min (we booked online) and the guy just came and did not even apologize for being late. He was rude and being intentionally slow. Never again with Avis. I should have read previous reviews about them.
