"Apathetic"
"All good reviews of this store whenever we go here"
"I Went to 7 bike shops today from Gilroy to all in santa cruz county as well as called over 10 different shops in the sanjose area as well as loss Gatos"
"This place is awesome"
"Came in Sunday about half an hour after they opened"
Apathetic. Insincere. The owner installs the wrong tube on my bike (no threaded stem) then tries to convince me that it's better not to have the threaded stem. I just left and vowed never to go back. A year later (today) I was in the neighborhood so I stopped to ask them if they can fix a brake handle on my bike with hydraulic brakes. The worker tells me that they're too busy, it would be a 3 weeks. I tell him waiting 3 weeks is no big deal. Then he changes his tune and tells me what a terrible brake system is on my bike and wants to sell me a new front brake unit for $179 + installation. I told him I can order the rebuild kit online for $12 bucks and leave the brake with him until they are able to repair it. He's not interested in fixing my brake lever at all. I was there a couple of other times a few years back and the vibe was always the same.
All good reviews of this store whenever we go here. Went in on a Saturday morning 10.45am. There was only one more customer inside the store at that time, probably people wanted to stay home because of the poor air quality. Our kid's bike had some issue with the brake cable, the gentleman at the cash counter gave me a repair tip and asked me to come back to the store if the tip didn't work. I was pushing our bike back to the parking lot while a second gentleman asked what the problem was. I told him, and he offered to look at it right away!! I was surprised and happy, because when I called them yesterday, they said weekends were super busy since the CoVid, and that they would take 3 days to return the repaired bike. I had our repaired bike in in hand within 6-8 minutes and didn't need to pay a penny!! Thank you so much guys!!
I Went to 7 bike shops today from Gilroy to all in santa cruz county as well as called over 10 different shops in the sanjose area as well as loss Gatos. None of them had anything I needed and a super low selection of what they did have. Calabazas cyclery shop is the most impressive shop I have ever seen and will now forever have my business. Everyone working was beyond nice and eager to help me as fast as possible. On top of that what I saw with how they treat kids, taking the extra step for them was in my opion the coolest thing I have ever seen a business do. These guys are a 5 star for sure and I will recommend them over any shop any day. More than pleased with the bike I got today. Thanks calabazas you guys rock.
This place is awesome. Friendly knowledgeable and made me and my sons feel very comfortable. If they do not have it they can order it. They usually have it though. They have done a lot of repairs that I was unable to or didn't have the tools to do. They also carry tools specializing in bike repairs if your a DYI type person like I am. Its kind of distant from me but worth the trip and isn't a hole in the wall type place with only 1 employee LOL. Brace yourself though your going to want to make many purchases. They specialize in BIKES period. I go there for my BMX habit at the moment but they do bikes well. I salute the employees and the owners who will thank you for your visit. I appreciate you guys, thank you.
Came in Sunday about half an hour after they opened. Despite being slammed, Bob helped me diagnose an issue with the rear shifter (after checking the derailleur with me). He was extremely helpful and courteous and made me feel like he sincerely wanted to help me fix my problem the whole time. They were too busy to take a further look at the bike in the back, but this gave me the information I needed to deal with the shifter issue myself (at least for now). As Bob was finishing up with helping me with the shifter (all the help was for free!), I asked for some tire recommendations and I just finished installing them tonight. Can't wait to go for a ride! (edit: I did NOT buy the bicycle here)
Horrible owner and guys , very rude behavior. He is behaving as if he is owning a tesla showroom and service center. don't even think of going to this guy. very rude behavior. Even its electric bike he doesn't want to repair a flat tire for it. Very Rude behavior to customers. .i should have seen the other people rating before walking with my bike for 2 miles to this idiot guys sho). He thinks electric bikes are bad and will ruin his business. yelling at me to move bike out of his shop and telling me i'm stuck with the bike i bought. if he is not able to repair a flat tyre of a bike why he is running that shop.if it is normal or electric its doesn't matter.
I was recommended to visit this shop by Cognition Cyclery after they were not able to help me sort out a chain issue for my track bike. Soon as I walked in, I was hit with a wave of nostalgia! I haven't been inside a BMX shop in ages! Love the vibe in this shop! They greeted me immediately and was able to look at my chain issue quickly. They determined that I needed to get a new chain since my chain was in too many pieces. I got a great replacement chain that matches my oil slick/titanium chainring and had a great conversation with the shop head about bikes and a local racing legend that rides BMX and Track comps. This shop gained a new customer!!!
This place used to be great when Bob ran the place. I bought 6 or 7 bicycles from Bob for my kids over the last several years because Bob was an expert, gave great advice and provided excellent service. Bob has now given the place over his son, and the place is just not what it used to be. I gave one of my bicycles for servicing, and had to wait 6-7 weeks before it was serviced. The servicing was incomplete - the brakes were not set right and the frame was greasy. When I complained and asked for Bob, I was shouted at in the shop and sent out of the shop to wait for Bob! Really sad what has become of a great bicycle shop in our neighborhood.
I took my bike for tuning to his shop and Rob was very rude to me. I have been to their shop a few times in the past and his employees were very courteous. I would have normally given them 4 stars, but Rob was downright rude, which is why I am giving his place a 1 star. This is no way to treat customers, especially women. While I was prepared to pay for the tuning, Rob refused to help me. He asked if I bought the bike in his shop to which I replied "no", however I had bought bikes for my son in their shop a few years ago. Regardless of whether I bought the bike at his shop or not, he had no right to be rude.
Conveniently located a few blocks from Calabasas bike park, this family-owned establishment has been my go-to shop since I was a child for all my bike needs. Rob and his team are just the best, and will make sure you are happy, whether it is purchasing a bike or getting yours serviced. It's a really passionate group of friendly, knowledgeable folks that live and breathe bicycles. They carry a lot of BMX and freestyle bikes but also have a great selection of road and mountain bikes. Huge selection of quality parts and frames, if you want to go the customized route.
Terrible customer service and attitude. Went in to ask a simple question about my bike that I'd bought elsewhere and about whether it needed service but they basically didn't even want to talk to me because I didn't buy my bike there. Accused me of asking for free advice (I never once indicated I wanted anything for free) and judged me for buying a second hand bike. Gave me a lecture about developing relationships but clearly had no idea how to develop one themselves. Would love to support local businesses but won't be supporting this one. Take your business elsewhere.
Went there for some prosaic rim brake pads with a removed pad to be sure I got the right part. I handed the removed one to the disinterested guy in a store empty of customers. He could only find one pair of inexpensive ones, so he brought out 2 pair of more expensive ones. Alas, I got home, cut the packages open, and discovered they grossly didn't fit. Maybe this was a bad day, but this will be my first and last visit to the store. I'm happy to go to a specialty shop and pay top dollar, but my expectation is that there will be expertise to match the prices.
Reading all this bad reviews I had to check it out myself, definitely not the case. The owner was awesome told him I was looking for older parts from when I used to ride back in 08 he gave me a piece of paper told me to write down what I was looking for told me he’d call me with any leads real stand up guy they have a nice selection of parts and are going to build some custom wheels for me when I get all the parts together. I give 5 star’s I would definitely recommend this shop no other good BMX shops I’ve found in the area. Thanks Again, Chris Apaka
I had an issue with my bike tires so I went in for some help. The owner and the people work there helped me out immediately and lent their pump for me to try out with my tires. It turned out it was my pump issue so I didn’t really need my bike served there. I wanted to post this review as a show of my appreciation of their help. Also I saw some negative reviews about the crew being rude and not willing to help, which contradicted with my own experience, so I wanted to take some effort to post this so that people could get more data points.
Do NOT support this shop! Absolutely horrible service (or lack of). My husband stopped by today to ask if they could fix a tire. Before he could finish his sentence, he was told by this guy in 50s “I’m not interested in your business. Go to another store.” My husband has not once in life been treated this terrible. He did what a decent man would do, leave and never bring any business back. We just moved to this neighborhood and we love to support local businesses, but not this one. I really hope this only represents one single individual.
Usually bike shops are a pleasure to walk into- intelligent and friendly staff eager to help out. This is not one of those. This is hands down the worst bike shop I have ever been to. Very unfriendly and not helpful in any way. Idle staff, finally greeted by an uninterested person talking on phone. I was told 8 weeks to fix a simple puncture and no interest in diagnosing a fault on bike. Talk to hand. Don’t go here, they won’t help you, they don’t deserve your business, and you’ll have a bad day. No wonder there were no customers inside.
I rode bike in looking for brakes and was helped by one worker who was awesome, told me to come back in a week as they might have some newer products. I returned again with out bike this time to inquire on brake purchase as well as doing some fork rebuild/installs and the mechanic was rude for no reason, "if you don't have bike here then your just wasting our time"... thats one way to lose business... He then said "I've got lots of custom frames to work on, I don't want anything to do with your build." well you can go f#$% your self.
Great service and experience purchasing a BMX bike for my son. 1st Worker was friendly and gave me suggestions on which bike to choose. 2nd person, the Owner (Bob) made recommendations and found the best frame size and made sure the bike was properly assembled, the brakes adjusted, seat height made and handle bar cut to size, and selected future pegs to install at a later date. And 3rd person performed safety check before my son tested the bike before making final purchase. Very positive experience.
Definitely will recommend to anyone with BMX park and racing hobbies. I saw Cult, redline, and FIT bikes in stock for young riders. 18inch etc. Pricing looked comparable to we what you'd see online. Marcus offered a free safety check on my son's FIT when I brought it in for new tires. They said everything was great, but thought I might consider a new brake line. It was kinked pretty bad and the plastic housing was chipped open. They quoted $10 to fix it. Really solid place with an awesome staff!
first visit / last visit I’ve never been to a bike shop that didn’t have a pump for the public to use, until today. I’ve never been to a bike shop that had an air compressor to fill tires, but couldn’t use it to fill mine “due to legal issues” until today I’ve never been to a shop with employees getting defensive about not being able to provide air, until today. Coming here and seeing all the other reviews is a relief in knowing they treat everyone horribly.
I bought a brand new bike at this shop and over the years had to deal with them several times when bringing the bike in for service. The one instance that sticks out in my mind is when I got my bike back one time, they had reassembled the thing wrong and got mad at me when I called them out on it. I ended up paying them to correct their mistake and received no apologies. The mechanics at his shop are incompetent, and have big attitudes. Go somewhere else.
I just have to say, the folks over at Calabazas Cyclery are awesome! Most bike shops nowadays have very limited offerings when it comes to the style of bikes and accessories on the sales floor. Calabazas has a wide range of both and that local touch when it comes to support that has unfortunately been lost in today's internet age. I moved out of the area, but still return to Calabazas because they're just solid. Give em a shot, you won't be disappointed.
The store has so many different styles of bikes here and beautifully designed. I came here with my boy friend and we could not be happier with our decision selecting Calabazas Cyclery. Right away when we entered Rob approached us and introduced himself to us and answered all of our questions and even made suggestions and recommendations that helped us out with our purchases. This store has such a great vibe and would definitely come here again.
I have been coming to Calabazas for over 30 years! I have never been in any olace that makes you feel more like family than here. Great products built to last. I still ride the same bmx bike i bought from them in 1998 and have only replaced tires and brake pads. Spend a little more now and have the bike as long as you want to have it instead of the cheaper sporting goods rides that will only last you a few years at best.
Good job for fixing. But they did not give quote before fixing the bike. I asked for a quote at beginning. They told me to quote "later". Then they did the fix very quickly without discussing about the price. In the end, I am surprised by the labor cost. The total cost for a simple fix is almost same as buying another 2nd hand bike. If I was told earlier, I would fix it by myself. I hope it can be improved.
Bought a brand new bike here, I have been riding it for 1 month and the low gears keep slipping/jumping which causes a major safety concern when riding difficult trails. I called to have a free tune up (since it was offered when I purchased it) and when I explained the problem with the bike the guy said "oh that's normal for the bike to slip/jump gears" NO IT AIN'T! Worst customer service GO SOMEWHERE ElSE!
A very unfriendly book keeping / cashier woman. She made such a big deal for 10 bucks of extra labor for rack fitting. The guy Bob who was doing the labor was very friendly and he also quoted me the cost to do labor. But this woman took out the customer experience completely off. I will never return to this place. Stay away from this shop, stay away from places where they don't treat customers well.
I'm a 5th generation Bay Area native, and I used to think this place was a decent neighborly place. I was sorely mistaken. I went in to tighten a bolt on my daughter's bike, and the repair guy said rudely, "I don't loan out tools." When I asked for clarification, he told even more rudely to get out of his shop. I'll never be back to this place, even though it's one of the closest to where I live.
Been a long time customer since 1996. Bob and Rob are incredibly helpful. The mechanics have always helped solve my bicycle issues. I had a problem with my breaks and Pat was able to fix them. I haven't met a mechanic that can dial in breaks like that guy. Keep it up guys!!!! I have purchased 5 bikes from them and rob even took care of getting my custom frame made when noone else could.
What a horrid little man! He will overcharge you, lie to your face and when you call him on it, will reveal his true, despicable colors. It's what happens when you are used to easy money in the valley I guess, since there were tens of bikes waiting for their $100 dollar tune up, a job that requires almost no skill and takes 30 minutes (have watched it done several times elsewhere).
Very rude owner. Not just he was rude to adults, he was disrespectful to kids as well. Don’t know how can such people continue to run business. There are so many bike shops with better selection of bikes and much better care for people coming in. Off the ramp, Walt’s and chain reaction are really notable. Don’t go here unless you want to see how a poor customer service looks like.
Huge scam. They wasted my time and said it would cost 85 bucks to patch the inner tube of my bike when i could repair myself for only 5-10 dollars. Update: The owner responded 2 years after I made this post so there is no way he has any recollection of the state of my bike. There was nothing ever wrong with it aside from a puncture tire. Go to evolution bike shop.
WORST SERVICE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I walked into the store and I was greeted with: "I have more than 800 bikes to repair, I can't take any more". I said, I am not looking for repairs, do you have parts? He said, no and your bike is substandard, go some place else. Well, I don't know if I will go some place else. I know I will never go to Calabazas Cyclery again.
Though Staff are good, but the owner or Manager whoever the guy sits in the cash counter is very rude and 0 customer service, very arrogant. Dont want to answer the question and has no interest in servicing or selling to his customers. His attitude is, it is my shop, whoever or whatever I want to sell I will sell. Never going to buy from the shop again.
The entire team is amazing. This is a store where they listen to you, understand you, and sell you what you need and is appropriate for your skill level. Most important, they are all enthusiastic about what they do. The mechanics are always available for any emergency repair and if the day is not crazy busy you get your service done while you wait
Above and beyond! Very helpful, but very busy in recent weeks. I'm not Joe Bicyclist, I'm typical Silicon Valley guy who bikes to alleviate problems from sitting in a chair too much. This shop does not talk down to me. To those who complain about inattentive staff: sometimes, the attitude of the customer can affect the attentiveness of the staff.
Horrible experience! Bought a bike from this place a couple of months ago and wanted to bring it in for a tune-up. When asked if the place is busy, the owner says he doesn't have a crystal ball and hangs up on me! I've interacted with the previous owner, Bob -- and he always provided amazing customer service. Seems to be going downhill now..
The older lady owner was so rude because I wanted to return or exchange the seat in my bike... I spent over $300 at this shop in the past, all the guys are great and helpful but ... that unpleasant, rude and unprofessional customer service from her prevent me from coming back. I tell all my friends not to go there. Very very sad.
I was recommended by a friend to go here. There was a bike I saw online I wanted to get for my son but was too late to put it on hold. I ended up going down and found another one I loved instead. They knew who I was and helped me out over a beyond. The customer service was great. Look forward to coming in again in the future
I bought a haro 24 inch BMX 4 years ago here and the service, the options, brands and obviously the quality of the bikes including the awesome prices is beyond what I was look for or I ever expected from such of high quality place...GOOD PRICES,GREAT SERVICE,FRIENDLY AND KNOWLEDGEABLE STAFF IS BEYOND WORDS!!!!
This store always has people in it because of the selection and the knowledge of the employees. They are always willing to provide expert advice. I have both purchased a bike from them and have them service my bike regularly. I am very happy with the high quality service I have received both times.
Extremely Rude. I dont even sense any sense of pride or ownership about bikes - I think Bikes are cool, but these folks are just weird, uninterested and just rude. I dont have a accent - but I also saw him treat a asian (chinese I think) guy very rudely as if he did not belong in the country.
rude owner, refused to lower the seat for my kid to try, and he was not willing to sell a new box of bike, only the one outside the door that no one knows how long has that bike been there. no return, no trade-in, only warranty from the manufacturer. DON'T WASTE YOUR VALUEABLE TIME HERE.
Do not listen to any of the fake 5 star reviews. This place has a predatory business model; they give you a false quote and then charge you an absurdly high amount after the repairs have been completed. Rude and disrespectful staff, have no qualms about taking advantage of people.
Odd guys, first time I've asked if they fix gear shifter. They says yes, bring it in. When I brought the bike, suddenly they have 50 other bikes for fix, and they out of gear shifters. Turned out to be a 3 minutes job with some gear shifter from amazon. These ones are odd.
Lots of experienced mechanics here. A little pricey for service but they have a wide selection of bikes for both adults and kids. If you purchase from them they throw in a year of free service which is good. They can also custom order bikes online and assemble it for you.
The owner of this place is a very kind and very knowledgeable person. I went there for the first time and got so much respect from the owner. Really reasonable prices here. I will definitely recommend this place to everyone for the best service and reasonable prices.
I mean I walked just wanting help honestly but some of the staff came off very elitist.. it was hard enough to be stuck with a flat not knowing how to fix it but being belittled and talked down to didn't help I ended up returning my bike to wherever I bought it lol.
I just had my tire tube replaced for my Fat Tire E-Bike and Jeremy did a great job, he was friendly and quick with great quality. I’ve experienced great customer service from them ever since I’ve started riding BMX 10 years ago with my cousins at Calabazas park.
Bad customer service. I placed a call for 2 questions and right after my first question the guy just hung up. My second question was about their inventory for a purchase and looks to me they lost a sale. Will not be doing business with this place.
My bike's front tire wouldn't stay inflated, so I brought it it into the shop on a Saturday afternoon. They provided me a quote for labor+ parts and within 10 minutes, I was back out the door. They also provided a safety check on my bike,
Used to be great. Now the staff seem to be overworked and annoyed at customers. Had a rude interaction while trying to purchase some accessories and decided not to buy. The staff asked me to buy on Amazon and guess what, that’s what I did.
I got my bike serviced here and started getting problems after 3 months. When I went back today and requested them to check they refused to accept that they ever serviced this bike and told me to pay $120 if they want any service.
The owner was helpful and helped get my kid a good bike for going around the neighborhood. Even let my kid ride around a bit before we made the purchase, even giving him advice on how to ride one of the bikes when he had trouble.
It's a great store and all, but just one thing. Most of the bikes they sell are BMX, which are very uncomfortable for me. There are some mountain bikes, but very few. Still, I recommend you this store (If you have a BMX bike).
Great bike shop for all types of bikes. From BMX, Mountain bikes, Road bikes, kids bikes, Electric bikes, Hybrid bikes as well as all the accessories you could need. Great quality service, amazing staff, and affordable prices.
Horrible store manager. Extremely rude and arrogant. We had liked a bike here and were planning to purchase but I would never pay a penny to such arrogant full of themselves people who are disrespectful and inconsiderate.
This is place is terrible! They said that they close at 7pm and we arrived before 7pm and the guy at the desk wouldn’t help pump air into the bikes. Then he said good luck for finding somewhere else to do it. …
Bought a couple of bikes here. Staff great and know their stuff. Aftercare is where they failed me. Unable to solve a bmx brake safety issue on my son's bmx - had to figure it out myself. They lost my trust.
Overall an amazing place to buy from. I bought my fit bike there and i am extremly satisfied with it. And iv been going there for tune ups and extra parts and they always help and give me the best options.
I took my mountain bike here for some repairs and a tune up. They were super helpful, and very reasonably priced too. They even washed my bike and touched up a few scratches on it for free. Thanks guys!
If I could put zero star, I’ll do that. The lady who picked up my phone is the most rude person. If the owner don’t know who she may, she picked up my phone at 12 noon on Sunday, Feb 21, 2021.
Most knowledgeable BMX (New & Old School), Dirt Jumper, Mountain Bike shop in the Bay Area. Family run with friendly employees who will find or make the right bike for you. Tons of parts too.
Insanely rude owner. The shop messed up my chain and broke it yet still was rude and told me "it wasnt expensive just buy a new one" but they broke it. They didnt apologize. Do not recomend.
Guy on the phone didn’t know his ear from his elbow, heard smarter people talking that work at Walmart. Place needs better staff. They are low budget and probably won’t last
Than you a lot for your amazing job! I love my bike but most I like the stuff attention and professional job! Tune up was done perfectly and even faster than was planned.
If you want to have the WORST customer service experience then come here. Rude staff, staff not wearing mask, no social distancing. This place needs to get reported !
I have never given 5 stars but the staff at this shop make you feel like family and have earned my trust. The mechanics are the best I've ever worked with by far.
Like Toys R Us for kids or Fry's for tech workers. Calabazas is the only bike shop around which caters to BMX racing. The staff is awesome and very knowledgeable
Called to see if the store was open to get my fixed bike repaired and the guy answered very rude "I'm not interested to work on that bike" and hang up the phone.
Excellent local family oriented bike shop. Very friendly owner. They help support local bicycle advocacy groups like the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition.
Local bike shop with the goal of helping each customer and giving back to the community. Bike shops are busier than ever, so remember kindness is free!
Great customer service and very friendly environment, the owner is a understanding gentleman with a lot of knowledgeable hard working employees.
This place is awesome .The best brands and models of bikes and accessories .The customers services is amazing !!! I high recommend this place!
My go to shop for 20+ years. Best service! Real riders working there. And the only place you need to be for BMX... anything. ☝ …
Had multiple poor experiences with them. - Inflexible pricing - Poor communication - Botched solutions/maintenance I don't plan to go back.
Bought a few bikes from here, they always maintained my bike with tune-ups. They were always quick to give my bike back to me ready to go.
Not the most friendly owner. She labeled my bike as "Walmart" bike and into this condescending tone. I would never go back to this place
Nice place. We bought 2 Norco mountain bikes from Jeremy. Great guy, lots of knowledge about bikes and area trails, go pick his brain!
Nice local bike store with good prices, complete inventory and an excellent bike shop. Employees are helpful and proficient.
Great Experience and Great customer service. Went in for a flat tire and got it fixed in no time for a reasonable low cost.
Extremely horrible one worker kept asking so many questions, just let me buy the product and stop asking so many questions.
This is the best reviewed bikes they can fix them for low prices and the bikes are cheap and high quality it is the best.
Been shopping here since 1992, they are an amazing shop and always have great customer service. Highly recommended.
They restored my husbands childhood bike from 79 and it came out great. Looks brand new all original parts....
Great service, great mechanics, always willing to work with you, and by far the best BMX selection in the area
My favorite bike shop, Rob and the crew are awesome! Nothing but great experiences here at Calabazas Cyclery.
Fixed my mountain bike, feels new again :) Super helpful and very reasonably priced. Bob Rocks. Thanks a lot.
Great customer service. I has a really good experience shopping here for a reliable bike for my 14 year old.
The guys were cool but the lady is really disrespectful, like i was about to leave bc of how she treated me.
This is pretty much the only place in the south bay that can rebuild/repair old Cannondale Headshok forks!
Best in the business! Super helpful staff. Extremely personable. Best selection of bikes in the bay area.
Awesome staff. Good response. I was able to understand what suits my requirements and pick one in 30 mins
Best shop ever. The people there are super friendly and just its always fun just coming into the store
This is one of the Best bike shops in the area for BMX racing ~ Rob and his staff know their stuff!!!
Great customer service. Fast and friendly. They fixed my derailleur for free as it was a minor fix.
Magic faeries in the thorn bushes. Owner is a super nice guy. Appreciate his humor and kindness.
Friendly staff - honest and upfront about labor/repair costs. Much better than Evo Bike shop!
They did a wonderful job of packing my bike at an amazing price. I highly recommend this shop
Super knowledgeable staff and great customer service. Been going there sense i was a wee lad.
