Okay, look, I know nobody here is going to cry tears of sympathy for a seemingly Middle American white guy like me, but hear me out. The Bay Area, despite being highly diverse, has its own special brand of racism. The various races and cultures living here are highly segregated, especially in San Jose. Sometimes, you'll see people of different backgrounds happily getting along in close proximity. Other times, you'll see them form cliques and stick to their own kind. Sun Bike Shop clearly falls under the latter. From the second I walked in, they clearly wanted nothing to do with me. I'm guessing the guys working there are Vietnamese because there's a large Vietnamese population in my part of town. I walked in with my Chinese wife, which I thought might at least raise the familiarity a hair. But nope. It was like every English word they had to speak made them want to stab us. All I asked were basic questions like, "What is the difference between the Trek FX 1 and 2?" And the guy would simply answer, "That one's better." Well, no duh, it's more expensive, I certainly hope it would be better! And they weren't any more respectful to my wife either. But when other customers came in who looked Vietnamese and seemed like regulars, they would immediately be helped. I get it, maybe we're not welcome. Maybe it's my fault for even walking in. Maybe they're happy just serving people of their own kind in their own language. I can certainly see why someone might find comfort in that. But it still deserves a bad rating so nobody else needs to go through what we did. Plus, their bike selection was extremely limited. They pretty much only carry Trek, but they're not the biggest or most well-equipped Trek dealer in San Jose either, and clearly they're not going to win any service awards any time soon.
bad very bad experience should give -ve rating not 1 at all.highly dissappointing.I went to this shop to get a fix done. Actually had a Bike Seat Post (wider by .4mm) stuck hard into bike chassis . that guy simply said if only I buy one from him(which costs 29$) then he wud help remove .the reason why I declined was his part was different, unnecessary and inappropriately priced. The one my bike fits costs not more than 10-11$ as seen in Bell shop in Amazon or in any store for that matter as I finally found things good in Fast Bicycle -2274 Alum Rock Ave few walks away from this ugly store, a much better store and the guy too a Mexican, very freindly who promptly handed me the tool to pull it out.No charge for the help ! he also agreed to the type of seat post I was looking for and the price thats only 10/11$.Sun Bike, what I realize tries to sell things they have and not what you need and goes rude if you decline. Atleast you are expected to approach with good behavior and gesture otherwise it gives an impression like nothing is going good with you.
These guys just rock, and here's why -- 1) they work fast, so you don't have to be without your bike for a long time. 2) They always give me a discount and let me know about deals on comparable products, so I know I'm always getting the best deal around. 3) They're honest. They've given me information upfront instead of just funneling me toward the more expensive thing. My husband just bought a bike from Sun and I'm glad he found what he wanted there, because I love giving business to locally-owned, good businesses. When he bought the bike, they told him about a special on that brand of bike, so he went ahead and bought a few accessories to go with it, and they even cut him a deal on the accessories. Nice!
I purchased a sram brake bleed kit. When I went to use it the syringes, they where defective and leaked. I returned it and told them it was defective. The old guy working there promptly opened the box sorted through it, added another bottle of fluid and placed it back on the shelf to be sold, while I was standing there. I wondered how many other people fell for the same scam. Then he said I would get refund less the cost of a bottle of brake fluid. I wasted half the bottle of brake fluid because of the leaky syringes. The way he looked at me I could see the hate in his eyes. Some people are racist and some are racist and stupid. He falls into the latter case.
Never coming back. Couldn't even install tubeleas tires correctly for me. Went for a ride and there was air spitting out of my front tire. Next thing I knew, it popped and I fell on my brand new bike and ruined my Pinarello. I hate you Sun Bike Shop. You ruined my 4,000 bike. Also, found out their prices are horrible after I compared with a few friends. Just took it to REI, they fixed everyfhing for free in 20 minutes compared to here, 2 wheels took 3 days and 100 dollars. No thanks, bye!
I brought my mountain bike in and had them rebuild the rock shocks. When I got the bike back it was as though nothing was done. They continued to leak oil and still would not hold air. When I took it apart myself the same very old worn out elastomers were still in the shocks. I talked with the owner but he would not correct the faulty work. I would not recommend this bike shop to anyone.
I’m sure like all businesses service can be slowed down, but my god. It takes forever for them to help one person. They are just in there casually talking about whatever it is they are talking about while there is a line of about 10 people waiting. I get it, but you can honestly pick it up a bit in the line service department. Talk about your family bbq you had some other time.
I do most bike mechanical work myself but still go to these guys for tricky jobs. Unlike a lot of bike shops that appear to employ inexperienced teenagers, the guys working on the bikes here have been doing it for more than 20 years. They are also a Specialized retailer and a source for my Specialized-branded inner tubes (da best), carbon steerer expander plugs etc.
got great service here. They squeezed me in last minute... fixed two things my other LBS couldnt fix. Rear tire tape was poorly placed and was leaking overnight... and they said i cant go down in sprocket size for my bike. Sub Bike fixed all of that and did it fast. Coming back here for future work from now on.
I actually drive a little further from where I live to go here. They've been helpful with the repair needs of my santa cruz bicycle and they have reasonable prices. During covid, there was a long line but they were attentive. Nice little local shop that I would be willing to support.
These guys are the best!! They have been working so hard to keep my all of road bikes and mountain bikes in tip-top condition during this Pandemic. This pandemic has hit bike shops hard with supply chain problems and overwhelming customers demand for new bikes and repairs.
I live by here and bike here all the time on weekends. Its a quaint little shop but the service is good but mostly for Jason. The other 2 can be slightly awkward but that's just their character and doesn't degrade the Quality of the service you'll receive on your bike.
Sun Bikes is the place to go, the gentleman at the counter (possibly the owner) was very informative and helpful, he never tried to "push" any products while I waited for my bike repairs. The repairs and parts themselves are reasonably
Great shop and fair prices. The master mechanic has over 30 years of experience and the store is well stocked with parts that you normally couldn’t find at a typical neighborhood shop. Love having this shop in the community!
All I can say is that this place Rocks! I’ve never had any issues with the guys here, they always do a good job! Definitely my go to bike shop for when I need some work done on my bikes. Keep up the good work guys!!!
Love this local bike shop! The owner is very helpful and is an expert in bikes. He will go above and beyond to meet your needs! The prices are pretty fair, and I'll definitely come back here for my future bike needs.
I went in with what I thought was an expensive problem and they got me back on the road for much less than I thought. They sell a lot of high end items but they take care of less hardcore cyclists too.
First time visit, they helped me effectively and had the special parts I was looking for for a fair price. Also they're open longer than most stores around. Definitely recommended!
Super friendly and easy to get to. If you're nice they'll give a slight discount for retail products and order them for you. Great spot. Hope to have reason to come back again :)
Came in and service right away, had rear wheel replaced within 40 min, dont care about the appeal,I need a bike shop when I need it ,nice custom bikes, fare price for labor.
Nice shop, good service. I bought a couple of inner tubes for my bike but I got the wrong kind. Took them back and they helped me get the right kind with no problems.
This bike shop is the place to be for any bike lover out there. You would love what you get here. I'm sure that you will be a regular customer here like me.
The prices are GREAT!!! They always give me discounts on products and services. I ONLY go there even though there's a local shop much closer to my place.
Awesome little bike shop. Come here instead of fast bicycle you will not be disappointed. The customer service is on a whole different level...
Can't recommended this place enough! Great service and pricing! Ty is super helpful and friendly! Thanks, Ty! Customer for life! :)
The bike shop was great but really expensive the elbow pads and knee pads that I needed were over 100 dollars put together
Excellent bike shop, a little on the small size but great Customer service. Yes, I would recommend this shop.
I brought my daughter's bike in to get the tube replaced, and about 15 minutes later I was heading home.
One of the best bike shops in the bay area. I drive half an hour from my house to get here.
Good prices. If you just want to go in and out for what you're looking for... good place.
They helped me fix my bike tire since I didn't have a pump at home. Super cheap too!
Solid. Ike shop, very friendly knowledgeable staff and good pricing. Shop local
They fixed my flat tire pretty quickly. Has a lot of upgrade options.
