Response to owner is below original review Horrible experience. Suffered hair damage. When asked for refund as they didn’t do their job properly, we got banned. Fletcher (the owner) and Erika (the manager) were very rude. Since there is no area to reply to the owners responses I am replying here: Hi there, I was in the salon during the treatment as I am her daughter and was getting another treatment. My moms english is not the best so I kept listening to the conversation. My mom did indeed flag that the straightener was very hot and that it was burning her scalp. The stylist proceeded to say sorry and said if it hurts you please feel free to shout out to me as I don’t want you to be injured. At no point during this was it mentioned that not going to the root would mess up the treatment itself. At no point did the stylist come up to me (in the same room and had let her know that I can talk to her if my mom was not fully understanding) to mention that the treatment would be affected. If this had been flagged of course I would have spoken to my mother and looked for alternatives or at least been aware that the outcome may change. We spoke on the phone with Erika twice that day and on the phone with me she said the best Chic would do is offer a keratin treatment but I would have to pay for half of the cost. This was frustrating as the treatment outcome was not great and I should not have to pay for a solution. I understand you have a no refund policy however that is for happy customers. If you pride yourself in customer service, offering a refund, or even offering a FREE service to fix the hair is what should happen. I would like to mention that after the hair treatment I was happy with the outcome as it looked straight. I even tipped a total of 28% for both treatments. If the outcome was what was expected and what we were told it would be during the consult, I would have no issues. There were no scare tactics involved, he was trying to explain to you that the hair was not what we wanted and you decided to shift the blame to the customer and say it’s because the root could not be touched. I don’t understand why you are going straight to “scare tactics”? Are customers not allowed to be upset and explain? He said no bad words, there was no rude remarks made, only an explanation. Please explain why you felt it was a scare tactic. When I was there, and remember that this was no issue but my mom decided to flag it, as it was burning her scalp. It was NEVER mentioned that the outcome would be affected because of this. I would not have been as upset if we were made aware that the outcome may not be what we wanted. I hope you stop shifting blame to customers, offering solutions where customers have to pay for 50%, and saying “I don’t even want you guys in here, you are never welcome back in our store” to customers who are unhappy. I hope you make sure customers are aware of processes being messed up IN THE MOMENT and not after they complain about outcomes not being correct. Also, upset customers are a normal aspect of businesses, however an owner blaming the customer right away is abnormal. lastly, if the public wanted to look at the lower end of reviews, this issue of the outcome being curly is nothing new with this treatment. Multiple people have said the outcome was curly. Did they also not let you do your job properly? I would have appreciated if the blame was not immediately shifted to the customer for this issue and I truly hope you do better .

AVOID this place for laser hair removal. I'm only writing this review because I came here after reading other positive reviews but I had such a HORRIBLE experience that I think others should be warned. The place is beautiful and the workers are alll very nice - this review is only about their laser service, as I have not used their other services. I came here for 13 sessions, spent over $2,000 for this service, did everything that they asked me to for a year, and not only was this process NOT effective but they also burnt a tattoo due to negligence leaving a permanent scar. I now have a ruined tattoo and have to continue the treatment at another business to finally finish this nightmare of a treatment. I shared with the other business my experience with Chic and they told me how they have received several other customers who also needed to go there after not getting the expected results at Chic. When I complained with Chic about all this, they said I just had to continue the treatment as usual and offered me one free additional session AFTER RUINING MY TATTOO (which I know now would have made no difference in hair growth because of their technique or machine) and refunded 1 hydrocortisone cream that they recommended for my burnt tattoo, which did nothing to fix the pain or the scar.

It was the worst experience ever. This salon only cares about money and doesn‘t care at all about their customer’s satisfaction. I prepaid for one of their packages that included 6 sessions. But I only had 3 sessions then it was cancelled because they closed so it was not my fault. I told them that I am leaving Kingston and I want half of my money back as I only received half of the package and since I was supposed to have a service at this time and I did not because THEY are not able to provide me with it. They told me that they do not refund but after insisting and explaining my situation more they offered me that instead of $120 they only can return $30 because they are going to charge me for the original price not the package price. When I explained to them how much that affects me and it is not my fault that they closed and are not able to provide me with the service in the time I asked them for it they ignored me and did not even bother themselves to answer my email. Update1: I sent them again and they told me “this is the only offer on the table”. Regardless of the money and everything I cannot believe the way that they are dealing with their customers by. Update2: They sent me my money back after I told them that I am gonna file a complaint against them.

You wrote a review for CHIC Hair and Esthetics Centre - MOVED 2 minutes ago 12/9/2017 I was in Kingston because my kids go to Queens' and it was a last minute decision to come. I needed to get some basic maintenance done.... hair cut, brows, pedicure, manicure - and found CHIC online because it was downtown near my hotel. What a pleasant surprise! this was a LARGE and LOVELY hair styling & spa place. They were very busy with local clients, but because of their fabulous online booking service, I was able to select every thing I wanted done, and 'the system' found an optimal time so that I got it all done in under 2 hours. And that was at 10 pm sitting in an airport! The stylist was an American 'transplant' to Kingston, the esthetician local, and their relaxing banter, the lovely old house with wooden floors and fireplaces in all the upstairs rooms and a good coffee/ cappuccino bar made for a very pleasant Saturday morning. I wish my salon back in the city had all these great features! Highly recommended for parents of Queen's students in town for a quick visit, and anyone else who finds themselves in Kingston.

Went in for a color just to cover a few feet and a little trim and a full leg wax. I asked for a senior hair dresser. The girl died my hair from medium brown to jet black. The dye was all over my neck, forehead, and ears. It took me all night to scrub and bleach my skin. She cut three inches off, (not a trim) and ruined my bangs. She also thinned out my hair, when I asked for layers. I hesitated and said, oh I have thin hair. But she said it would be fine and she would only do a little. Next the leg wax, the girl put scolding hot wax on my legs and ripped skin off with the wax. Then half way through she says "all done". And I tell her I booked a full leg, not half. She says she doesn't have time because she thought it was only a half leg and she has another client. I tell her I have a wedding the next day and really need it done. So she fills her eyes and does a really crappy job for the upper leg. Missed patches and kept burning me. I left in tears. My sister has also gone here and has had a horrible experience with waxing. Similar story.

I am not satisfied with the chic laser treatment. I had 7 sessions but with awful result. I think their laser device is old. I have had 4 session before somewhere else (in another country) and I received better results with that 4 sessions compared to these 7 sessions here! So waste of time, waste of money! I mentioned them that I have had highly low hair removal for the 4 last sessions(for 2 sessions literally no hair removal), but they did not care and just provided me with 1 more session and again no satisfied result! Although, since their device does not work for those hair which are stronger and do not remove in the initial sessions and need a higher quality device, even if they provided me with more extra sessions, it did not work. It was interesting to me that they mentioned to pay for 6 more sessions to receive better results! HOW? With your awful laser device! I have had no result for the last 4 sessions! I highly recommend that don't waste your money and time by their laser treatment!

I go to Chic every month to get my Brazilian Wax, which is only $20!! Every other place you get a Brazilian it is anywhere from $45-$60 so just the price alone is enough to make you want to go to Chic but Fletcher (the owner of Chic) is such a nice and sweet guy and all the girls that work there whenever I go are very sweet and friendly, I feel like they are all good friends of mine every time I go! Fletcher also dyed my hair blonde and I also got a blow out there before and it was very good for an affordable price! I highly recommend Chic Esthetics, especially if you want a very, very affordable price for Brazilian Wax (only $20!) and they also do Microdermabrasian for I think $20 which is also a great price. Thank you Fletcher :)

I don’t even know how to say thank you enough to Fletcher and Sophia as well as the lovely girls at the front desk. They absolutely went above and beyond for me today. I unfortunately had a disappointing experience somewhere else and they truly went out of their way to fix someone else’s mistake and ensure I was happy. I could have cried I was so happy with their work and kindness. The compassion I was shown today is something I have not experienced from a hair salon in a very long time. They genuinely care about their clients, they are all such good people and are amazing at what they do. If you’re looking at getting hair extensions in Kingston, trust me…do not go anywhere else but here!!!

* I rated this salon previously, but all my google reviews have vanished… CHIC has a welcoming & chill vibe , while being very professional & efficient . It’s very busy , yet it still feels calm , and all the clients are greeted promptly & in a friendly manner . Fletcher gave me a bright blonde I requested, with patience & ease, that others in the past couldn’t achieve at all tbh I also got extensions, and they last a super long time and are expertly installed . He listens to what clients want, while still offering his professional opinion, which is appreciated. I got an expert head massage , and it was literally the best ever.

Fletcher operates a very professional hair and esthetics centre. I always feel welcome. Kelly P. is the stylist (not the appropriate term in my view, should be " miracle maker") I have been going to for years. She can turn moths into butterflies, or in my case, not quite a butterfly but perhaps a mayfly! I've given her the impossible task of working with straight, fine (fine like "thin") thinning hair. Yes, it's no joy. She somehow manages to make me feel better everytime. She is professional, considerate, skillled and caring. I highly endorse this business- its not a "run and gun" shop. You get what you pay for . Thanks Kelly.

Listen folks.. check these guys out. Took my daughter to see Fletcher yesterday for only the 2nd time. And not only did he remember us from October of last year (first appt where he and his team straightened her curly, VERY thick hair), he gave this curly girl the short cut she has been dreaming about. Honestly, if you could have seen her smile under that mask!! Had great tips to offer, and so sweet - thanked us for trusting him with this momentous cut of going from long and heavy and no style, to short and sassy and crazy curl released! Prices more than fair and everyone so friendly. Give them a try if you haven’t been!

The first thing I was asked when I entered the room was what my background was. The technician made me disrobe and show them my vagina. They then informed me I was too dark to perform laser hair removal on. This happened after I was exposed. The manager laughed at me when I asked for the reason of refusal to perform the treatment in writing, stating that they would not write down what the technician did. The manager did write a letter for me, though refusing to include that particular detail. I will be filing a lawsuit. Nowhere in the pamphlet does it mention that black people will be refused treatment. Now I know.

I have been in the customer service industry for years now in the medical industry. Two things I value is good service and clean environments. Chic salon has amazing customer service and is very clean. I was very impressed. They are up to date on services, supplies, and styles. One of the main things I noticed with my visits there is the owner is always around and friendly not only to the clients but also his staff, this says a lot. This is a place where I want to spend my time and money. The prices are very affordable, I have shopped around and they can’t be beat, with the quality of care it’s a win win!

I've been going to see Amanda at Chic for 2.5 yrs now and I LOVE her. She is fast, and as painless as you can be while doing a brazilian wax. Just did my first laser hair removal with her too and I'm already seeing results. Same fast and almost painless process! Sophia cut my hair a few weeks ago, and I'm in love with the style. She was very kind and also showed me how to style the hair. The prices at Chic are amazing, I have yet to see better prices for such great service. I recommend Chic to all my friends not only for the affordable student pricing, but for the amazing team and atmosphere as well!

I got an hair smoothening treatment here it didn't last even a week. So, after a week I washed my hairs, and what happened is I get my original curly hairs back I get Kenra smooth treatment and I paid the exact amount. The lady say it's gonna last for 3 months at least I don't know what did she do to my hair. I didn't get the results I actually wants to get. It was a wastage of time and money for me to go there. My experience was really worst. I don't recommend it to anyone. I wish I can post 0 star but unfortunately there is no option to do that

I had my first laser experience at Chic yesterday and would highly recommend this service. I cannot speak to the results yet, however you feel very comfortable and taken care of from the moment you walk in the door! Fletcher, the owner, is so lovely and was there to greet me and welcome me to the salon. The environment for the treatment was very clean and private, and Carley, the esthetician, was super friendly, quick and professional - I will recommend her to all of my friends! Thank you CHIC for a great first experience.

Always love Chic and the lovely team that make our experience so special; however, one of the massage therapists, Amanda, deserves a special shout out. I've had a history of severe injuries and other health issues that necessitates frequent massage therapy for pain relief. After going to many professionals in the industry, no one has quite measured up to her. Would have never believed a relaxation massage would put to shame several RMT's!!! Thank you so much Amanda, you are truly wonderful at what you do.

Pauline is incredible! She is an eyebrow genius! She’s been waxing and tinting my eyebrows for over a year now and I will never go to anyone else. She is efficient and thorough and always ensures you leave feeling confident and beautiful. I did waxing for the first time and Pauline was awesome. She made sure I knew everything about waxing and that I was fully prepared. She is extremely professional and gets it done quickly! 10/10 recommend Pauline for all services - she’s so great!!

Chic is my number one choice for hair cutting and styling in Kingston. Jenny is my go-to hair stylist who always makes my hair look exactly the way I want! Fletcher (the owner) is amazing and you can tell from the environment how well he treats his staff and how amazing his entire team is. I love being in an environment that is not only safe and amazing but also is filled with so much positivity and happiness that it is contagious. Definitely recommend to all Kingston folks!

** this review is for the blow bar Beautiful interior, mediocre service. Came in for a wash and style, requested loose waves and got really tight large curls. In addition hairspray was sprayed into my roots ?? I don't know what this was supposed to achieve as my hair is long and all of the styling was done to the bottom. Just made my hair coarse and difficult to loosen curls after. Was not terrible but I would not personally recommend. the same job could be done at home.

Amazing cut by Samantha. I hadn't got my hair cut in quite a while and I wanted a bunch of length off. She sat ne down before anything and asked about what I wanted. She made sure she knew exactly what I was looking for and was sure, even during the cut, to keep checking in. She paid close attention to all details and I absolutely love my new hair! Everyone I talked to at the salon was lovely, and I think it was a very reasonable price for a salon and the service I got.

ALWAYS a great experience here. Definitely my favourite place in Kingston to get my esthetics done. Great quality for affordable prices. I've had Amanda and Sarah as my estheticians in almost a year now and they were both very patient, nice, and professional. I can see that they have taken great precautions to ensure the spa is a safe and clean space for both employees and clients. Bravo to Chic! I have been a client at the salon since it opened and followed my very experienced stylist Kelly there. I most recently went this week for a hair colour and manicure. The full staff including Fletcher and Erica and Kyle (to name a few) on reception are always very friendly, professional and it is like visiting family for a nice chat and a pamper session. I always feel fabulous when leaving there. I would highly recommend the salon for hair and aesthetics.

I had a horrible experience getting a balayage done w Trevor. My long hair had to get chopped off half the length due to getting fried. To this day my hair is still recovering from this terrible experience. I also found him to be very tough with brushing my hair after when it was fried. It'll take a couple more years for my hair to fully grow back. I am very disappointed with the service that I received and still got charged regular price.

Women's hair cut with Jenny - Hair was below shoulders and I wanted to cut it above my shoulders, I am extremely happy with the cut. It usually takes me a bit of time to get used to a new cut but not since working with Jenny. This is my second time seeing her and now she is stuck with me lol! On top of the cut being fabulous we had a lovely chat so the overall experience was great. Prices are so reasonable and all staff are very friendly.

Fletcher and his team go above and beyond to make sure you have an excellent experience, they're care and compassion towards the client is something that is sorely missing from most salons. My wife has had so many bad experiences and was so disheartened as we walked through the doors of chic, but from that moment on she is now excited for her appointments instead of fearing them. Our family is all so thankful for finding this place

Chic is the best one-stop shop for esthetics! I have been going for a year and would recommend to anyone! Quality of service is high and prices are incredible. Their staff are honestly the most memorable part - everyone is SO friendly. Sophia and Fletcher are amazing stylists and Carley was my favourite esthetician. The woman at reception (has an accent, wish I knew her name!) is just about the loveliest person you'll ever meet.

I don’t recommend this place for hair treatment , they fried my hair. I got the Brazilian blowout for 350$ on my nice long hair and now I will probably have to cut half off to get all the damage out. The staff was nice but they need more training on how to do this type of treatment.I had this treatment before somewhere else and this never happened before. A total waste of money and my hair is ruined. Very disappointed.

During my visit to Kingston,I decided to stop out front your shop to rest in the chairs. As we were sitting an employee exited the store,stopped noticed my Yorkie-Poo and gave him affection. She asked if he would like some water,of all the shops not one person offered my dog water. She made a point to ask and get him bottled water,generally kind woman. Good,kind hearted. I have been going to Chic since they started up. I am a loyal customer and always will be. The service is always so welcoming from when you walk in until you leave. Jenny is my hair stylist and is incredible at what she does, I recommend her to anyone. Pauline is also amazing at her services. The owner is very involved and is running an exceptional business. I have come her for eyelash extension and to get highlights done. Both experiences were great! They have these rooms upstairs that have music playing in the background which really helps to enhance relaxation when getting your eyelashes done. They did a phenomenal job on my hair and eyelashes, I’m thinking I might make this my “go to” salon after the experiences I’ve had here now!

I have been going to Jesse faithfully for coming up on two years now and he is an absolute hair magician. All of the staff at Chic seem genuinely happy to be at work and I have only ever heard great reviews from others who I have referred. Customer service is through the roof! Tried out Chic Kingston for their waxing services with my housemate this afternoon after reading such good reviews online. We both had services with Sara and left unimpressed. No skin prep was done, she seemed very rushed and hair and wax were leftover in the end. The overall wax was also much more painful than what I experience at my regular waxing spot.

I’ve been going to Fletcher at CHIC since I moved to Kingston in late 2019. He always listens and colours and cuts my hair (which is very thick and long) exactly how I want it. I continue to return because of the friendly staff, quality services and pleasant atmosphere, and now my 11 year old son is enjoying cuts here as well! Thanks so much everything!

Samantha saved me from myself!!! Tale as old as time - I tried to cut my own hair (because...pandemic) and it went about as well as you'd expect. In swoops Samantha and rescues me with the cutest boy-cut you'll ever see. I look awesome and I'm so happy. Thanks Samantha! It wasn't expensive and the salon had a great atmosphere too. 10/10 would recommend!

I did wax my chest, stomach and fullback. Pauline was very courteous and professional. She has a nice tactic to divert your attention from the wax experience :) I am a hairy person and I would say it was a pleasant experience and will definitely come back. The staff at CHIC Salon are beyond amazing. I followed my incredibly talented stylist Sam Farrow there almost a year ago and have been blown away with the care, and joy each member of their team brings to the table. Not to mention they saved the day for me in many ways for my wedding day. I will always recommend this salon to anyone who asks.

I had my daughter get her first hair cut here by Tamara, really great experience for her. She is a very calm hair stylist and had a smile on the whole time. Will definitely go back!! I also got my lashes tinted at a different date. Such a clean place, and also partly a historic building. It's very gorgeous, the esthetics studio/areas.

I saw Darly today for a blowout and WOW did she ever deliver! It was absolute perfection and I’m not exaggerating here. I go for blowouts often but am new to Kingston so I know it can take a few try’s until you find the right person for you. I found the the one and I’ll be back to see Darly soon that’s for sure. Carley did lash extensions for me today, it was my first time in Chic, and first time with extensions as well, I have NEVER had a more amazing experience with a salon in my lifetime. It was so clean and such a great atmosphere to be in, I probably wont go anywhere else now. (Not to mention my lashes have never looked better)

THE place to get a Brazilian! 20 bucks! I literally cannot find a comparable price anywhere else, and the service is extremely good! I’ve booked with several of their aestheticians over the years, and have never had a bad experience. Pauline is super friendly and ridiculously quick! Cannot recommend this place enough!

Kelly was awesome! Very talented lady! She gave me a complete new look that was much needed. The bangs are lined up properly to my brow bone and the length compliments my face shape! Pauline is my most favourite esthetician ever. She has provided consistent, exceptional services for the past several years - I'm never disappointed with her work. She is so chill and very knowledgeable. Prices at CHIC are also very competitive. I would highly recommend to anyone. They offer a mean blowout, too!

Hair stylist did not listen to the way I wanted my hair cut because she “didn’t like that style”. At the end of the hair cut I asked if she had cut it the way I wanted and she said no, took off the cape, and basically forced me off her chair and towards the cash register. I will not be returning.

I was recommended this hair salon by a friend and especially the hairdresser Fletcher ( the owner of the business). The service is excellent and Fletcher has always cut my hair exactly as I wanted for a perfect result. He is also very nice to talk with. I highly recommend this place !

Pauline always knows how to take care of me every time I’m there. Whether it be for my eyebrows, lashes or a nice facial. The atmosphere in her room is so peaceful and welcoming with the aromas diffusing. I always leave feeling so refreshed! Looking forward to my next visit!

I can honestly say that Carly is pure mastery when it comes to body waxing. Don't recall I've seen anyone who done waxing as quick as she did with pure perfection in a short amount of time. She definitely has her "A" game when it comes to this service. Thanks Carly.

Great experience at chic for a Brazilian wax. Amanda did such an amazing job... virtually painless and super quick. 10/10 would recommend her at chic, she really knows what she is doing. Receptionist is always so friendly too and can’t beat the price.

I have been a customer since I moved here in 2018. Today I decided on a short cut for the first time in over 25 years. Fletcher worked his magic and my new style is absolutely fabulous! I'm already getting loads of compliments Thanks Fletcher!

The staff was very friendly and the store really nice but unfortunately, I did'nt enjoy my experience at chic hair and esthetics. I came for a waxing, which was very / too long and the result wasn't good (still hairs on me). So, I won't be back.

I have been going to chic for over a year now. I have had laser, facials, and waxing all done by Pauline. She is amazing. Her room has a very relaxing atmosphere when getting facials, and regardless of the service, she is extremely thorough.

I had colour and highlights done by Jenny today, and I love it! She does amazing colour, trim, and blowout. I’ve never been dissatisfied with any services at CHIC - recommend very strongly. Amazing staff, best services, and great prices too.

Sarah is an amazing esthetician - she is extremely knowledgeable and makes you feel comfortable during any intimate procedures. I have also had my hair cut by Sophia, who did an awesome job as well! Super sweet person and great hairdresser.

Sophia was great! She had me in and out in about an hour including a trim and an awesome blow out which she made sure to curl my ends as she did it. ( I have a bit of natural wave) It's the little things that mean the most! She rocked it!

I use their Brazilian laser service with Pauline. She is so professional and help me feel comfortable. The service is so fast and everything is clean. I do recommend their laser service. It's been 3 times and I already see the result.

Nice place, nice people. But I got the straightening treatment for my hair and I waited to wash it like she said but my hair went right back to curly not wavey but curly. This treatment was a waste of $200

This is a good place to get your hair done. However, I got a Brazilian there and you get what you pay for. I spent $20 and have a lot of bruising.

Great waxing service with ONLY Amanda. A different aesthetician bruised my skin and it was terrible. Book Amanda only for THE BEST wax every time.

The service in general was good, But they did brow wax to me without asking if Ill be okay with that which I wasn’t, and they charged me for it!
