Beautiful gardens that I'm sure are magnificent during spring and the peak blooming season! You could easily spend a half-day or full day exploring these unique desert habitats and environments. Many plants are labelled and there are some information boards throughout the gardens, but I think that it would be helpful to have a lot more. For this reason, I think most people would probably enjoy and benefit from a tour, which happen at 9/10/11 am respectively. I was disappointed not to receive any info about the tours when we checked in; we were just handed a map and told to enjoy. Granted, we did go on a FREE day (second Tuesday of every month) and it was very busy. It was actually uncomfortably busy for us arriving at midday, and we were tripping on people for the first hour or two. Nearly all the grounds are stroller-, wheelchair- and mobility scooter-friendly since the garden paths are all paved or dirt-packed. I don't know if I would pay full price to come here, at just shy of $65 USD for 2 adults and a child. I wish there was an affordable option for kids under 5. It always seems like a cash grab when young children are charged at high rates for activities that are largely aimed at adults. All that said, I'm so glad there is a free community day available. I'd recommend arriving either in the early morning or late afternoon if you want a quiet, slower pace for your garden explorations.

The Desert Botanical Garden offers a delightful escape into nature's wonders, even for those who may not have a particular interest in plant life. While the gardens boast a multitude of stunning flora, including a diverse range of cacti and desert plants, there are other attractions to appreciate. For instance, if you're more drawn to wildlife, you'll find yourself surrounded by an ample amount of ground squirrels and lizards that add a touch of liveliness to the environment. Moreover, the garden ensures visitor comfort with plenty of shaded areas to seek respite from the sun, as well as numerous water fountains equipped with water bottle stations. Plus, the convenience of air-conditioned bathrooms throughout the premises enhances the overall experience. The scenery at the Desert Botanical Garden is nothing short of breathtaking. The juxtaposition of vibrant desert flowers, towering cacti, and the unique desert landscape creates a captivating visual spectacle. Whether you're strolling along the well-maintained paths or sitting in one of the shaded areas, you'll find yourself immersed in the serene beauty of the surroundings. The attention to detail and the preservation of this arid ecosystem are commendable, and it's an ideal place to reconnect with nature and enjoy a peaceful respite from the bustling city.

I'd be happy to provide some information about the Desert Botanical Garden in Tempe, Arizona. However, please note that my knowledge is based on information available until May 2023, so there may have been changes since then. The Desert Botanical Garden is a popular attraction in the Phoenix metropolitan area known for its stunning collection of desert plants. It covers 140 acres and showcases a wide variety of plant species, including cacti, succulents, and other desert flora. The garden offers beautiful walking trails that allow visitors to explore the different desert habitats and enjoy the serene beauty of the desert landscape. Additionally, the garden hosts various events, including art exhibits, concerts, and educational programs for visitors of all ages. Visitors often praise the garden for its well-maintained grounds, informative exhibits, and breathtaking scenery. However, I recommend checking the official website or recent reviews for the most up-to-date information about the Desert Botanical Garden and any changes that may have occurred since my last knowledge update in May 2023.

The park provides an amazing experience of showing local plants and animal life. They also have a small art exhibit area about an artist from Colombia. They also have designated areas for hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies; however, we did not see any in these designated areas. I have been to parks in the past where when they have these designated areas you are guaranteed to see the specified animals, but this was not the case here. It made this difficult to identify the different species of these animals you could see since you only had this reference in those areas. There is a complimentary admission to the Garden every second Tuesday of the month if you do not want to pay the admission fee. Also, make sure to be ready to be in the sun for the majority of the park experience. If you have an infant, be ready for trails that can be a little rocky/muddy and some that are better paved for strollers. Overall this provides an excellent experience of learning more about local plants and animals in addition to others that can thrive in the Arizona environment.
DBG is one of my favorite places in all of the Phoenix Metro area. I highly recommend a visit or a few dozen. Check out their membership options, often it's more affordable to get a membership than purchase individual tickets for all your family. The DBG has an incredible variety of plants from all over the world. I visit on a near weekly basis (get that membership) and each visit I still see something I hadn't in previous trips. Another nice thing about the membership, you get early access on Sundays and Wednesdays - that's when the desert critters are most active. They are fun to watch, looking for food before more people arrive. Aside from the plants their events are super fun and family friendly. Our favorite is the Strange World event around Halloween. The fall and spring plant sale is also a great event. The variety and prices beat any nursery in the valley. Purchase your tickets in advance, help everyone get through the entrance faster!

World class collection of cacti and succulents. Excellent, informative trails that are easy to walk. Great gift shop and looks like a nice restaurant (we didn't dine). Trails are not long but the beauty is taking it slow and enjoying the diverse vegetation and educating yourself about the beauty of the desert. Great way to see the desert flora and fauna while staying within city limits. A true oasis in the city. We saw numerous birds including quail and a roadrunner as well as rabbits and squirrels. We visited midday in December (67 degrees). I'm sure it's toasty in summer so come in the morning or evening at that time. Thanks to all those that make places like this available to visit, learn from and explore. The Sonoran desert really deserves all of our help in protecting it.

This is one of the few places to visit during your trip to Phoenix. A wide variety of plants, especially giant cacti impressed. There is a small restaurant on site as well as a gift shop. The ticket price for an adult was $16. Inside the park there are public drinking fountains and a water vending machine. It is better to go here closer to sunset. Since next to the park is "Hole in the rock" - an ideal place to watch the sunset. Have vvmla in order to get there, you need to leave the territory of the garden. Sunset comes around 19:00. Oh, and beware of rattlesnakes when you walk around the area outside the garden. I didn’t see it, thank God, but the locals say that they are found here.

When visiting a new city, I love checking out their botanical garden if they have one - and this one did not disappoint! A well-curated, incredibly well-kept, set of gardens. Everything from parking, to ease of trails, was seamless. Several folks as we were walking along we’re giving information about specific plants in the green, as well as being helpful and asking if there were any directions or guidance needed. A gentleman who worked there could see we were trying to navigate with our map, and he led us directly to the trail we were trying to get to. Wish I got his name, but thank you to the awesome folks at the botanical garden for being so welcoming and making our adventure there even better!

Loved in Phoenix over 30 years, and I couldn't believe I'd not visited this beautiful garden. Brunch was amazing, and the waitress was very accommodating. I really wish I could remember her name... it may have been Estela possibly. The art museum featured a Columbian artist, and we loved learning about the history and background of his work. I didn't explore all the trails offered, so I will be returning to the garden. The butterflies were my most favorite! I could've stayed in that area all day. Prese be careful when you visit them. You must move slowly so as not to step on the beautiful creatures. Please enjoy the amazing variety of cacti and have fun!
My wife and I had a pleasant visit here and did it comfortably in about 2 hours, including the gift shop. They truly put a lot of love and care into the multiple trails and plants. There are also plenty of opportunities to spot wildlife such as rabbits, ground squirrels, roadrunners, quail, and so on. Don't worry about not bringing enough water, as there are plenty of free water bottle refill stations with cold and tasty water which was much appreciated. Lastly, if you're a local or have flexibility, check their website to find their freebie day to save a few bucks.

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!! Anytime I have some extra money I come here to enjoy the atmosphere. I got a discount for National Cactus Day and took my children, they were so young and loved coming here I was surprised because they don’t even like going to the zoo. However, seeing the butterflies and all the gorgeous plants they absolutely loved it. Even in the summer time it’s fun! The entire enclosure is well kept and very clean, I’m glad my children loved it as much as I did mainly because there’s lots of fun places for them to climb!

This was hands down the best experience I have had at a botanical garden. I visited in March, which meant great weather. I was able to get around without an issue thanks to the signage and the clear trails on the map. Even though there were many visitors, there was ample space for everyone to walk around without being too close to each other. The butterfly exhibit was fantastic! I would go back just to spend more time here. The grounds are so well maintained and the staff were all super friendly and welcoming. When i go back to Arizona i will definitely be leaving space in my plans for a second visit here.
The Desert Botanical Garden was amazing with the various species of desert plants, cactus, & the natural desert landscape that surrounds the Botanical Garden. There is a fairly inexpensive restaurant as well. Perfect for families, the elderly, & handicapped with strollers, wheelchairs, & motorized wheelchair scooters for a small fee. Thoroughly enjoyed the visit, but be prepared to walk the trails & see the quails running wild. Low cost entrance fee makes for a fun Day Trip.

Went on a Saturday night for their flashlight event! So much fun and the weather was enjoyable at that time. I went at 7:30pm and wish I would've gone at 7pm for some better sunset photos and to see way more as flashlights can only do so much. They have ton of little things all throughout the garden for children to do as well at night. I don't have kids so I can't speak much on that part. They also have a nice little gift shop. Multiple drinking fountains with bottle fill ups throughout the garden. Very well taken care of and would visit, again.

Just the right size for me whose attention span for such things is a couple hours or so. Very nice grounds with meandering sidewalks and beautiful landscapes. Our interactions with the staff and rangers were great. The butterfly exhibit was (for me) surprisingly engaging. Parking was free and easy. Folks using wheelchairs I think would find lots of paths that work here. Lots and lots of pokey plants so watch those young kids!

Never a bad day when you can visit the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix,AZ It sits on 140 acres. I am a desert creature by heart and learn something new each time I visit. Beautiful displays, which still includes some glass pieces by Chihuly on display. Crested saguaros are a treat to see and the wildlife goes without mention..beautiful, peaceful settings. Quiet nooks in and around the Garden to sit and observe. Love this special Point of Pride landmark.

Didn't know what to expect when I visited but I quickly realized that this place is something very special. We ended up spending the whole day admiring the variety of desert plants and walking the different trails. I thought it could not get better until we visited the Botero exhibit and we were blown away. The exhibit was great as was the movie. I just can't say enough about how helpful and friendly all the volunteers are here. This should not be missed.

Loved the butterfly garden!! The entire grounds were beautiful. The plaques along the trails are so educational & very interesting, even after living in AZ for almost 30 years I still learned a lot in this one visit . I misplaced my map somewhere at the beginning of my visit, but the signage is so clear everywhere that it was easy to just wander and enjoy all the trails and beautiful colors blooming in the desert.

What an astounding garden! This place is totally worth a visit. Amazing landscapes and cacti, beautiful well kept litter free trails, tons of docents around to help you out, lots of bathrooms and water stations, and we got to see some hummingbirds! We absolutely loved this garden, so different from what we are used to coming from Hawaii, but beautiful in a completely different way. Very highly recommended!

What a fantastic place to explore desert plants! My family and I had a few hours before we had to be at the airport, so we decided to explore. It was great to walk around at our own pace and look at everything there. We even saw rabbits and lizards! It was very hot (more than 100°F) but the gift shop has air conditioning and a nice selection of gifts and souvenirs. I will return the next time I'm in town.

I love cactus and succulents so it is amazing to see all the varieties of these plants on display. The Desert Botanical Gardens does it beautifully. Unfortunately, I have only been able to visit at times when it has been above 100 degrees. I think it is a must see no matter what the temperature, but I think I'd like it even better in somewhat cooler temps. that are better for the cactus plants.

Great place to visit while in Phoenix. If you are going here late spring or summer, would recommend going either in the early morning or late afternoon. There are not a lot of places with shade in the garden. The area is quite big and there are many trails and galleries to explore. It is also not too far from the airport so if you have a late night flight this could be a good place to stop by.

Make sure you bring water, the sun/heat was no joke. You're able to purchase some once you enter or can bring your own water bottle. We took a break for a while in the cafe, which had yummy food and drink options.

It is a place full of greenery in Phx. It has thousands of varieties of cactuses and other plants. Along with a beautiful collection of plants, it has other interesting facts about bees, pollination, cactus etc. They have couple of different options to have meal. The gift shop has nice collection of items specially related to garden and things specific to Arizona. I would say it is a good place to visit when the heat goes down and plan to spend 4-5 hours if you are plant lover.
A great place to visit but better to go there in the morning before it gets hot. There is water points, restroom stops and shaded areas to sit along the walking paths. The plants are labeled and there are fun facts to read. We got tickets on the day we went to visit and didn't have to wait in a line. There is also a gift shop there but souvenirs may be cheaper in the Old Town.

The whole area around the botanical garden, Papago Park and Hole in the Rock are fun to visit so make a day of it! We packed food and water and explored each area, it was one of the highlights of our trip to Phoenix!

One of the most unique botanical gardens I’ve ever visited. Presenting the desert life as its in natural habitat. Plenty of wild animals - from hummingbirds, quail, rabbits, sometimes snakes. Can get really hot in there but there are occasional shades in the park - like a small hut or a tree. Best if you bring lots of water.
A must-visit place in Phoenix. The whole place was full of unique cacti, and plants. It felt like I was in a different world. I wish their entry fee was lower, and offered some special rates for students.

Beautiful place. What made it even better was going on community day. Entrance was free. Had lunch at The Patio Cafe. Even though sandwiches were a little pricey, they were very good. The prickly pear iced tea was delicious. It was enjoyable to sit outside overlooking the peaceful desert scenery while enjoying a nice lunch.
A must see if you’re in the area! It’s not really my thing but my wife really wanted to visit. We spent almost 2 hours walking through the very extensive gardens I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Plus, Gertrude’s is the BEST place for lunch and drinks! I would go back just to have another prickly pear margarita!
A nice place to visit if it’s your first time In Phoenix. Lots of beautiful cacti and Nice paths to follow with different lengths. It’s too bad I went during a heat wave so I couldn’t enjoy it fully. If your a fan of plant life definitely visit this place. Price is reasonable if you spend a while there. Maybe 1-2 hours

A great way to see the different deserts’ plant species. Requires around 2-3 hours. Easy to get around if it’s not too hot. Well maintained and marked with signs and information.

Visited the garden with my mother and sister on Sunday 11/26 and loved seeing all the cacti while learning more about the different kinds and seeing where they are native to. Gorgeous garden, and absolutely do recommend for anyone looking for a nice botanical garden to walk through in Phoenix.
I recently visited the Desert Botanical Garden for the first time to photograph an engagement session, and it was absolutely beautiful. Very well taken care of and visually stunning. Can't wait to come back!

It's beautiful and peaceful. The only bump was that the employee watching over the butterfly area was observing a child catching and holding the butterflies and said nothing to the adults about stopping that.

The weather was perfect!! The staff was nice and friendly when I had a question. Unfortunately, it was "winter," so I missed most of the blooming flowers, but it was still a good time.

Love it here, there is so many types of cactus. They have animal exhibits where you can actually interact with the animals. They also have little booths where they teach people about the desert ecosystem. It's pretty cool for a family adventure or a walk with a friends.
Volunteers were eager to answer questions! The gardens were clean, well designed and overall remarkable. I would recommend this to be a place that everyone should see! Loved it!

Even on a Sunday before a holiday and after a rain the garden was able to accommodate all of the people. There are plenty of trails and separate spaces to explore. The signage is aplenty and each time I was curious about a cactus name there
We had such a wonderful evening here. We started with an early dinner at Gertrude's and then explored the gardens during sunset. It was absolutely amazing.

If you love cactuses, Peter may meet you at the gates here. The butterfly garden was cool but grandpa accidentally stepped on one and ruined the mood.

Love this place, we paid around 60$ for 2 people at weekend, it’s usually cheaper at weekdays. You can buy one year pass for 89$ per person or 115$ for family. Nice place, nursery for butterflies , a lot of plants and flowers …
I had a lovely time. This place is family friendly with lots to see. Price is a bit steep in my opinion but the garden is enjoyable

Always a beautiful, pleasant experience! The latest art exhibit was wonderfully curated. The gift shop always has cute unique items and Gertrude's is great for date nights. Highly recommend ❤️ More
Such a cool place! Saw some really tall and 200-year-old saguaro cacti that are only unique to this region (Sonoran desert) in the whole wide world. Their butterfly exhibit was also lovely!
What a great day! The negative edge fountains were a hit with the kids. The last time I visited the garden was in elementary school. The plants have grown so much the last few decades!
This is a great place to see many different varieties of cacti and agave. It's nicely laid out and well maintained with just over 3 miles of trails, mostly paved.
This was a super fun and interesting experience of the desert! Took a few hours to walk pretty much the whole thing with lots of stops for pics. More
