The Heard museum is a good place to go, to learn about Indigenous people of Arizona also know as Native Americans. The gift shop is a wonderful place to check out for art. From jewelry, rugs, baskets, carved dolls, and paintings to sculptures. It's a condensed version of what the Heard museum displays throughout the year. Plus you can buy these items whereas the ones in the museum are on temporary display. The staff is friendly and very helpful, be carefull not to get lost as I always do when I visit, lol. They always bring about new up and coming artists all year round. A wonderful place if you wish to learn about our culture and passed way of living that was nearly decimated by the migration of the European peoples into the America's. For those visiting Arizona for the holidays I recommend it and for those who wonder where all the Native people are. Well you'd have to discover for yourselves why that reason is and the Heard museum helps to understand this. A interesting visit for a few dollars. If your going during the week morning to mid afternoon there may be tours of schools and kids about. Though usually it is pretty quiet. There is a Cafe on the premises a bit pricey but hey, it's also the holidays. Hope you enjoy learning about Native cultures.

The heard museum is an amazing place to spend a couple of hours with an absolutely deceptively large collection fit in a relatively small footprint. Very conveniently located next to the light rail station. Also participates in Bank of America Museums on Us promotion. They focus on Native American culture and there were special exhibits when I went in September 2021 of the way that Native Americans were treated on the reservations which gave a good glimpse and insights that couldn’t be found anywhere else. Extremely pretty sculptures located both inside and outside of the museum. The tribal lands map and all the jewelry available on the reservations was extremely impressive and you’re unlikely to be able to find such an in-depth of Native American history anywhere else in the world.

Thanks to my younger son (5th grader) who asked us to visit Heard Museum this weekend. It was an amazing trip to this one of its kind museum which is dedicated to tell about history and present culture of Native American tribes of this region and across US. I realized how rich their culture, art and traditions have been and what difficulties they have faced over last couple of centuries to protect themselves and their culture from outside forces. I knew a very little until this trip. We were blessed to be guided by a noble lady (sorry forgot her name) who made it a richer experience for our whole family. We surely going to visit it again.

I went on a Saturday. It was Super Bowl day the street was busy with people showing off team pride. No absolutely No water bottle of any kind you must check your water at the front desk. It was my first time here I spent a lot of time looking at Indian school experience the museum is vast and I didn’t get enjoy everything because I had munchies. If you go I recommend bringing a snickers or peanuts or something. I am going back to the Heard museum and I’m going to make sure I start with the Native American artifacts first.

I've been to a lot of museums in my short 37yrs in life and I must say, this is the best one that I've had the honor and privilege to step foot in. The art, the details, the information are all priceless and must be preserve forever. I also had lunch at the cafe and the food was delicious, their Birria tacos were probably the best I've had in a long time. Would I come back and bring family and friends who visits from out of town? Hell yeah! It is worth it and this is a gem in the city of Phoenix.

Last minute decision to visit as I needed to kill time before heading to the airport. Glad I stopped in to check it out. Excellent museum with lots of Native American art. I love sculpture art and there was a lot of that too. Discovered another artist whose work was gorgeous. I was hoping to pick up a book of her work but there wasn't anything in the book store. There is also a a museum shop and a Cafe where you can get a bite to eat and sit outside in the beautiful weather. Check it out!

This museum has lots of art from many tribes in the southwest - the Hopi, Navajo, Zuni, Apache, etc. I especially loved the pottery, some of which is over 1000 years old and made using the coil and scrape method. We had a wonderful guide (Christine) who was passionate and knowledgeable. The museum is laid out well and has an open courtyard, outdoor sculptures, a fantastic store, and a small cafe. It is absolutely worth a visit.

This museum is an absolute beautiful addition to our city. Learn about the historical Southwest while touring this beautiful property for 2-3 hours. Experience and learn about the American Indian heritage with all its history .The silver and weaving exhibits, art work, garden sculptures and architecture of the property are outstanding as well as special exhibits . A great day for the out of town visitor and locals alike. Beautiful for all ages. Parking is easy and staff is kind and welcoming .

Tastefully curated museum! I was happy to learn about the different tribes living in Arizona. The artisanal weavings, jewelry and basketry collections were fantastic. They were displayed in a manner that each piece could be viewed easily. Also the contemporary art on display was stimulating, thought provoking and beautiful at the same time. The exhibit about the Indian Schools was informative and very sad.

If you want to learn about Native American history, this is the place. Lots of exhibits. Downtown Phoenix location is easy to get to and has plenty of parking. While you can view the exhibits on your own, taking a tour with a docent helps the history come alive. And, there is a Cafe and gift shop, too. Certainly a must do experience when in the Valley of the Sun.

The Heard museum is great. Make sure you stop at your local library to get two free tickets with a program called the culture pass! This place is awesome. It seems a very important purpose in making sure the USA's horrific treatment of the indigenous people here and in other states. They also had an amazing exhibit that ended on Hawaiian surf culture.

It was very interesting, much bigger than I was expecting, and I didn't have time to see it all in 4 hours, so I'm planning to return another day. As others have suggested, you may be able to get a "Culture Pass" from your local library and save yourself the admission costs. Use the money saved at the Cafe that they have there on premise or in their amazing gift shop!

A fascinating place. Not just for the history of the region's indigenous peoples but also the architecture and grounds and sculptures on display. My kids (6 and 3) enjoyed the actual exhibits and the building but also loved the light wall in the (small but effective) kids area. Definitely recommend visiting. We will be back

Excellent museum. Thoughtfully done. Both a history lesson and top quality contemporary Indigenous art. Caught a guided tour highlighting sections of the museum and then went back taking my time. Nice restaurant for a meal afterwards.

My visit to the Heard Museum was amazing! It's a place filled with incredible Native American art and culture. The exhibits were fascinating and taught me so much. The staff was friendly and helpful. It's a must-see if you want to learn about the rich history and creativity of Native American communities.

Few specialist museums pull off the breadth and quality of exhibits and a serene beauty of buildings and attitude of this museum. Well worth a visit if in town, you'll be impressed.

I absolutely love visiting the Heard Museum!! While the educational and informational aspect is very fulfilling, my favorite part is the calm and relaxing environment that I experience every time I tour the spectacular exhibits. The gift shop is amazing and the landscape is breathtaking.

  • Ioana Costea

Lovely museum, definitely visit if in Phoenix! Recommend taking the guided tour which is very informative and provides a lot of historical background! Both the permanent and temporary exhibitions were amazing when we visited! The museum also has a cafe and activity room for children!

We appreciated the wealth of cultural information on display. The new Canadian indigenous exhibit was a great addition to the museum's collections. I truly enjoyed seeing the cultural experience from other areas of North America in addition to our more local communities. More

Such an amazing museum. This is probably the museum we spent the most amount of time in other than the Louvre. Truly worth a visit. We even did the starlight room that’s like a 360 theater with starlight ceiling. The staff and docents were very informative. Truly a 5-Star.

  • Tiffany Fleck

Such a humbling, educational, and moving experience learning about so many different tribes. Don’t miss the boarding school exhibit upstairs. It’s such a well thought out curation that shows the impact of colonizers. The grounds are beautiful. More

It was hard being here and seeing all the old white people and nuns. It sounds mean but it didn't feel good. I wondered if they were there cuz they felt sorry for what they're people did to my people or were they there looking at everything
