I’ve been searching for a dining room light for many months. I fell for some pendants carried by design within reach. I went to the Seattle store to see the pendants in person before purchasing. I was asked three times if I was “finding everything alright” within the 10 minutes of walking into the store. The sales person watched me closely as I walked through the store. The pendants I was there to see change appearance depending on wether they are turned on or turned off. When they are off they are reflective and when they are on they are opaque. When they are on they have a very obvious seam and, after seeing the light in person, I wanted to see how obvious the seam is when the light is off. I said I was there to see the pendants and asked if I could see the pendants turned off. The answer was no, no also to seeing a pendant in a box. The sales person told me I could check the photos online or they have photos of other installations. This was expressly unhelpful. I was asked again if there was anything else they could help me with which was my clear signal to leave. It was embarrassing and unnecessary.
I came in to see/try the Hay Mags Soft couch that a rep, through their Google chat, told me would be on display in store. I walked around the store, did not see it, and decided to ask a sales rep if they have any more information. Their response was very curt and unfriendly (for anyone wondering, they only carry the fabrics samples in store). I wanted to ask about where I could go see it but was off put by the interaction, so I left, disappointed. Reading the past reviews, my experience seems to align up with others - great items/store but bad vibes. I ended up being able to try the couch out in the Bay Area in an official Hay store (I believe Hay is in same franchise as DWR). Sales rep there was super friendly and helpful. I ended up ordering the couch through them. Again, for anyone else wondering, there is a Hay store in Portland and you can order individual pieces through the store to get a specific size/dimension. This option is not available online.
I had an awful experience with the customer service at the Seattle store. I brought in an item to return and the associate told me they needed to hold onto it and check something with their manager in San Francisco before providing a credit. I asked them if they could give me any record of taking the item, or of their commitment to give me a credit, but they wouldn’t. It was weird. Finally I took a picture of the guy with the lamp, in case I needed it later. I did. The DWR team never got back in touch. I had to barrage them with emails to get them to provide the credit. This should have been a simple process, but I suspect they were neglectful because I wasn’t a high-dollar customer. I’ve been in this store enough times to know they’re not that busy - they had time to get back to me. I would recommend shopping elsewhere. All of DWR’s stuff is available in other stores in Seattle or online.
I haven't purchased from these folks yet. Rather, I found a used Knoll LIfe Chair and the manufacturer directed me to DWR for local repair services. I've been working with DWR's customer service team for some time now trying to locate a replacement part for my generation of the chair. It's been quite the quest, indeed. Here to express my appreciation for a service team that is supporting the maintenance of a product that they didn't process themselves. It's left a very positive impression on me as a customer that they've been willing to help with this oddball case. It also reinforces that the manufacturer and its affiliates take lifelong product care seriously. Here's to hoping we can find the parts. Thank you regardless!
The store has a very personalised no nonsense customer service style which I appreciated, letting you walk through the store- the design associate would come over to help you out every few minutes, in case you have questions. After we shortlisted a few products Renee sat down with us and helped us with the shipping timelines before we ordered, along with recommendations for other pieces which we decided to think over before purchasing. Since these are high value purchases having someone work with us was wonderful. I highly recommend coming into the store rather than ordering online esp. to have a look at the visual merchandising to identify your particular style and inspiration for how you may want to set up your home.
Please READ before purchasing anything from DWR. This is my second purchasing experience with DWR. It was so bad that I started questioning myself. I've been working with DWR customer service for the past 2 months+ and there has been absolutely no progress. The issue was quite simple - I ordered a standing desk from DWR, and the item was delayed indefinitely due to the desk being damaged during shipping. I waited another month for them to ship the new desk but only to be told the desk was damaged again by the delivery company. I understand this is not normal time but I've waited long enough and I want everyone to know what to expect when things don't go according to plan.
It has been an absolute pleasure working with Design Within Reach. It all started with a simple phone call question, and I had the opportunity to work with Julie! She helped answer all of my questions about the twin Cove Bed I was considering. She even went as far as sending me a sample of the oak! We placed my order when the semi-sale was happening, and I just received my bed today! It took about two weeks or so altogether. The company that delivered my son’s bed was amazing! They were professional and got the job done around 20 minutes. I simply couldn’t ask for more! I look forward to future purchases with DWR! If you are hestitating, go for it! You won’t regret it!
Never order from this company. I tried to cancel may order in 3 different ways almost immediately. They did not and have not not responded. They then quickly said they had shipped. How may companies ship the next day. They only said they have shipped because I tried to cancel .Certainly DWR does not ship the next day. They then said it will still take 3 weeks to get the product. If you try to call the phone number on their confirmation email it takes you to some medical device loop you cant get out of. if you try the number more than twice they say it is a disconnected number. These guys are scammers and have no customers service. Good luck.
I was asked "is everything alright" three times within the short span of my 15 minute visit, which seemed like a very clear hint towards me to leave. Given my very casual attire, I can understand the sentiment, but from a customer experience standpoint, I can't help but feel off about the experience. Seeing from a previous review, it seems like I'm not to only one who had such an experience in the store. Maybe it's a tacit store policy, who knows? I was fully intending to purchase an ottoman and either the Cosm or the Embody at this location as I live 2 minutes away, but I decided I'll be ordering online from a different retailer instead.
Reached out to Josh, the general manager of this store to ask about the Herman Miller Aeron chair. We made an appointment for him to demo the chair for me on Monday. When I called at the scheduled time, he just told me to get in touch with his associates instead. It felt like a complete brush off. I then spoke with Gary at the store who told me he was too busy and would call me back. He never did. I have to say I am quite disappointed in the customer service I received. You'd think a store that sells highly priced furniture would treat their customers better. I am completely unimpressed. Needless to say, I took my business elsewhere.
ordered furniture with assurance of delivery within the month - at end of the month I called Stephanie the sales person ( pompous ,pretentious & rude ! ) said , 'oh its delayed - they will be here by the end of this month' 3 months later no furniture in sight. I think the sales person knew this was situation when I ordered my furniture and lied to me to get the sale. Second time I had issue trying to order from this establishment and their incompetent employees - never going back and suggest avoiding them and go someplace else. I ordered from another store and got my furniture
I am really disappointed at this store. I ordered small furniture and received defected one. When I contacted customer service, I was told that I have to repack and send it back to their store when I receive new one in 3 months. They sent the label and need to print it out to use it before expire it. I need to keep the label for 3 months? I gave up and decided to use just damaged one. Too much hassle and too long to wait to get new one. Not sure Why I have to use it for another 3 months. The system is weird but the person at the Customer service was nice to me.
I had the pleasure of working with Stephanie who went above and beyond to help me for nearly a year with an Eames Aluminum Group Chair that had some shipping issues. Stephanie’s knowledge of the products and her customer service was second to none. Stephanie helped me in resolving shipping damages and making sure the final product was in perfect condition. I am extremely grateful for her help and highly recommend Stephanie and Design Within Reach for anyone in need of a high-quality piece with exceptional customer service.
I visited Seattle (2019) and decided to stop by DWR. I ended up purchasing a dinning table and chairs. After some issues with the table, two replacements later, I now have a story to share of what excellent customer service is all about. Stephanie Blom at the Seattle location was wonderful through out the process (over a year and a half). If you are going buy from DWR, she should be your first point of contact, whether you are in Lincoln, NE or right down the street in Seattle.
I am so happy with my new couch from DWR. Sahar, the furniture professional that helped me was wonderful. She made the process easy and enjoyable, and the couch is perfect. It's very stylish, very comfortable and you can feel how well made it is and how high quality the leather and other materials are. I would definitely buy from them again and feel very comfortable recommending them to friends and family.
Elegant and well styled furniture showroom. The scale of several pieces felt more appropriate for a house or larger apartment, but they had some options for everyone. There were a few pieces that I thought looked really nice, but the prices seemed high compared to other modern furniture retailers. It's worth stopping in to get inspired and see if things fit your taste.
The showroom for Design Within Reach (DWR) is fairly large and has a good amount of their furniture. Nice to be able to try furniture out in person since buying blind is difficult. The sales person did ask if we needed help but did back of when we said that we were just looking. Can't wait to get pieces into our home since it's a great fit for the intended space.
A good sized store with a large selection of products to view. They don't really have items in stock but it's good to see furniture in person before you buy it. Melissa provided some great guidance on colors and matching a few items I ordered and also helped me special order some lights DWR doesn't keep in stock from one of their vendors.
My interaction with one of their male reps has ended any future relationship with DWR. I asked about a classic, expensive design piece and the curt no, without offering to put an order in, or offer to answer questions, or any response was the least welcoming customer experience I've had in a very long time.
Bought a Herman Miller Aeron chair in 2017, sat in it 8 - 16 hours a day, and had it warranty serviced in 2021. Was a fairly painless experience, and the technician they sent out was amazing. Highly recommend buying Aeron chairs if you are looking for top quality office chairs.
Would give negative stars if I could. Their customer service is non-existent and they are a complete pain to try to work with. They don't respond to emails or voicemails (assuming their voicemail box has room). Save yourself a huge headache and go anywhere else.
Although the office chair I purchased didn't alleviate my specific physical health problem as I'd hoped it would, I still had the best possible experience in ordering and, unfortunately, also returning the chair. Renée was consistently responsive and helpful.
Fantastic quality. Helpful staff. Now owned by Herman Miller, so it's a great place for their line. They also have lots of other manufacturers. Definitely more in the expensive side, so be prepared to spend several thousand dollars for that beautiful chair.
Excellent service, location and showroom. Definitely recommend if you need stylish, very functional, ergonomic office and/or home furniture. Eamon was a great sales representative, extremely helpful, informative and definitely an asset to the store.
Beautiful showroom as always. Also I appreciate that the staff here don't mind when I have brought my children in. We do appreciate design in our home so it's important they learn how to behave respectfully in these types of beautiful places
I ordered a Pier Wardrobe system in November of 2022. I am still waiting on missing pieces as of April 2023 and have been informed I won't get them until late June. Absolutely dismal customer service.
Never received my “in stock, ready ship” order and customer service has zero empathy with their customers. That isn’t The first time this happens. No idea what I can do at this point.
Never order from this company. A simple desk chair, waiting over 7 months for. Poor communication, a "we don't care" attitude, just not ok service with items so obscenely expensive.
Cathy and Scott provided me with a wonderful customer experience. They were both extremely patient with my nit pickiness and helped me find exactly what I was looking for.
Service was excellent, the staff has all the information you need and can help you with anything, no problems whatsoever
The furnitures in the store is really nice however the staff was not welcoming at all. He act like I owe him $100.
Great store. Very helpful (not pushy) staff. We've purchased there and would do it again.
Everything's ridiculously expensive but extremely aesthetic store
Only place in Seattle I can try out a $1300 computer chair.
Cute showroom. Staff was nice and not pushy.
Beutiful.modern furniture, helpful staff.
