"It was a pretty neat place to visit"
"A little bothered by what seemed to be a questionable scare tactic coming from a hobo tent on the left side of the creek towards the left rear corner from the main entrance"
"Man kept following me and repeatedly asking for money"
"Great park and great place to go with family or alone we didn't have much time when we visited so we drove through and it is still a great park"
"I love fishing here"
It was a pretty neat place to visit. It wasn't very big and not really a place you can hike too much. I ran it all and it was about 2.5 miles from the park on the right to the run out to the island, running the island, and running back. A hurricane came through about a week ago and gave us a lot of rain and so the road leading out to the island was flooded. I ran through it and believe any car could make it through no problem as long as they drive slowly (it was just deep enough to cover my shoes). There are campsites out there for tenting (not RV or trailer) and it would be a great place to camp out. Its right along the river and has a fishing spot on the north side of the island. If you had a kayak or canoe this would also be a great place to ship off.
A little bothered by what seemed to be a questionable scare tactic coming from a hobo tent on the left side of the creek towards the left rear corner from the main entrance. Surprisingly awesome views of the Blue Angels that were in town for the weekend. Mosquitoes were nonexistent until the sun started going down. First time visiting.

Dog-friendliness
Very pet friendly. Bypassed some old man who didn't pick up his dog droppings while walking them. Thankful I was watching my steps.
Picnic area
Plenty of tables and grilling pits. I should have brought charcoal and some steaks.
Man kept following me and repeatedly asking for money.(he followed me for about a quarter mile asking) I ended up tripping trying to get away from him. Even with my dogs barking at him he continued to reach his hand to me. After screaming for what felt like minutes 2 ladies came and scared him off! I called the police. Just be careful of your surroundings. This was the 2nd time I've been I know that afternoon isn't a good time to go. I now take only morning walks if I can get the courage to go back. My dogs love it. We moved here from Texas and love nature!!
Great park and great place to go with family or alone we didn't have much time when we visited so we drove through and it is still a great park. Your within the trees, they do got a campground, we did see some cats which was nice. Nice trails, nice view, great place to watch sunset, and yea. its a really great place. Nice place to go outside, definately a great place for outdoorsy types. Before you get on the island, they do have an area where you can take trails, which is really nice and cool. But yea, overall, a great place, totally recommend.
I love fishing here. There's tons of variety in the water on any given day. Reds, flounder, spots, black drums, crabs, pinfish just to name a few. Sometimes I like to cast out over the bridge just before the dirt road, but be careful not to snag your line on the oyster beds. The fishing pier is always a fun spot and offers excellent views of the intracoastal waterway. Amenities include restrooms, showers, picnic areas, kayak launches, and campgrounds. Bring plenty of bug spray during the warm months.
Dutton Island has a special kind of magic if you tap into nature's energy. It is serene and a great place to walk your dog. There are two seperate places to explore. It is not busy here and I come here often, so again, a great place to walk your dog or get some peace and quiet. Wear bugspray at all times. Bring extra bug spray. This is a marsh, so the mosquito population matches China's population and then some. With copious deet, you will not have a problem.
Great little 1 mile hike with plenty of shade. Was nice to see some added "features" and art throughout the hike as well. Nice place to take the dogs or kids. There was also a short little mountain bike trail with some hills and small obstacles for riders (although the dogs enjoyed it too!). This review and pictures are for the east trail before you get onto the island. Picnic tables available. A few benches along the trail as well.
Great place for a calm, beautiful walk. Is dog friendly, has picnic tables along the trail for a quick rest or snack. Biking trails and more! But don't forget the bug spray!! Super important!
Dog-friendliness
Dog friendly, just please be courteous and pick up their mess. Trash cans are available to dispose of the pet waste.
Picnic area
Traditional picnic tables at the entry of the park and along the trail.
Just went for a walk here again today, brought our dog this time. It's not too long, the trail is well maintained with very few muddy areas. It's fun to spot all the different bird houses people have hung along the trail. It's also not usually as busy as some other local trails, even though it has plenty of parking.
Dog-friendliness
Great on-leash walk
Picnic area
Picnic tables next to parking, they look new.
Went here while trying to add a new fishing spot to the plate. Unfortunately, I just went to the walking path part and got in a great deal of steps. Will write a review for the fishing side once I experience it. But, never to be deterred mini-me and I, "walked it out". Has seating spots along walking paths, plus a picnic area right off of parking lot. You're allowed to take pets along as you clean up behind them.
Spent the day painting with First Coast Plein Air Painters. The Dutton Island Preserve was beautiful. Wonderful experience to see the Florida's wild life up close. On the second day painting our painting group had more trouble because it was loaded with insects in the marshes. None of our insect repellent seemed to be working. You are best to go on a day when there is a breeze blowing.
I've always been a fan of dutton island but I went out paddleboarding for an hour yesterday only to come back to my passenger window smashed. I went back the next day and saw more broken glass in another parking area there. It's obvious I wasn't the only one. Take all valuables with you when exploring there. I'll be leaving my car unlocked with zero valuables if I go back.
For any of you Travelers who enjoy quiet secluded marshlands you should check this place out, "it's absolutely beautiful! I've seen it in the evening time right before dusk, but I haven't been there yet in the morning. I haven't had the chance to snap any photos out there yet either, but I can't wait to be able to; I plan on doing it one morning this spring.
Went to check it out for the first time. It was quiet, kinda empty for a few friendly people we passed going in. Took our six year old son with us and he enjoyed it. Didn't see no homeless, felt like a safe location. Came back and our car was untouched, still there. That's a great sign right? Lol def gonna go again. Peaceful atmosphere :)
Lovely 1.4 mile loop. I did not visit the main part of the park, these photos are from a little park if to the right side before you enter the park. I went on a slightly rainy day on a Friday, I saw noone else, except a long biker, which was awesome. Im not real familiar with swampy areas so this was a real treat!
The improvements allow you to comfortably fish or launch your canoe or kayak. Beautiful views of the salt marsh and the Intracoastal Waterway include critters of all kinds in their natural habitat. On the right tide, the fishing isn't bad either. Check with the local bait and tackle shops.
I took the dogs here for a quick walk and did the whole loop it was very quite and peaceful, the birds chirping and singing were calming and relaxing, but I would bring bug repellent me and the dogs were getting attacked soon as we stopped walking.
My experience at Dutton Island was amazing. There are places to kayak and canoe, there a lot of nature trails to hike, the water has plenty of fish reds , bass, and more I go every week my experience is amazing I hope yours will be the same.
Man I have always enjoyed launching a Kayak from here and getting back in the Marsh for some big Reds. Once you hook one and he pulls you around the marsh you'll be HOOKED!! Great place to take the family also quiet and not crowded usually.
Dutton Island surprised me.... interesting hiking trails, primitive (though some you can drive to) campsites with nearby pavillion/picnic table and trash can, two fishing piers with kayak launching facilities. I highly recommend it!
Very peaceful out there and I visited on a day with a boys scout troop still enough spaces for us all. Due to the tide I didn't catch anything keepable but I still enjoyed the serenity. Clean grounds and great for families as well.
Great little out of the way spot. Pretty nature walks, bike trails, canoe/kayak pier/float launches and nice picnic areas. Right on the intercoastal too, caught some nice fish there. Florida birds and local wildlife.
Kayak and canoe launch areas. Camping areas. Fishing pier. Shore fishing areas. Restrooms. Outside shower area. Great place. Have to get permit to camp from city of Atlantic Beach since limited campsites.
Great area to get outside with family and friends. Easy parking to take a walk on the boardwalk, fish and enjoy the Florida sunshine. New camping areas look awesome, can’t wait to try one out soon.
Just went over the weekend. Was a bit cooler so there were no bugs. Encountered just a few other people on the trails... everyone was friendly. Definitely a good place to bring the kids or dog.
Wonderful family environment. Park rangers are amazing and very helpful and reliable. Thank you for your great service and allowing families to enjoy a great fishing and camping experience
Great opportunities to fish, kayak, hike, camp, or just enjoy Real Florida Wildlife. Kayak launch, restrooms, potable water, outdoor shower, campsites by reservation. All accessible!
Da best.... I go before they open and walk my dog around the whole path.... always scared of gators so we are loud....never seen one there....yet. beautiful Florida trail
A nice preserve in Jax Beach. Ran across this place while driving around checking out the area. Good place to take a walk and harmonize with a slice of nature...
A easy walk, populated enough to make you feel safe yet quite enough to give you peace! Great for family walks. Also has fun mountain biking paths and hills!
When the trail isn't flooded it is a pleasant walk. Our pup thoroughly enjoyed this nature adventure so that's a plus. Just wish it was longer of a trail.
This was a fun loop for my dog and I. We were able to take a quick stop here and there to enjoy the beauty around us and for him to do some exploring.
Really fun place! Really enjoy it. Me and my friends go fishing there, eat BBQ... There's also paths where you can walk, and a boat ramp. Nice place.
Good spot for camping, fishing, and short hikes. It has bathrooms and outdoor showers available. The park gates open and close at sunrise and sunset.
Dutton Island is a great place for kayak and bird photography. Also hiking and a great place to walk your dog. Excellent picnic areas as well
Camping sites are great here just be aware and prepared for the mosquitos. Ramps for kayaks/canoes available with very nice scenic routes.
Went down a new path this time. Serene, shady, flat and easy passage. Stopped to rest on a bench overlooking the intracoastal. Perfect!
We went to if we could get on the island, but the tide pushed in really high and we couldn't. But any other time we love to hike it.
It's an easy shady 1.4 mile loop. Plenty of picnic tables/benches at the parking lot and along the trail. No restrooms on site.
wonderful park, canoe/ kayak launches, good fishing spots and well placed docks. Grills to cook on and gazebos for gatherings
Great park, nice trails and you'll even see wildlife. Just be ready to fight off biting flies the whole time if it's summer.
Beautiful place right on the Intercoastal Waterway. A wonderful place to enjoy the natural beauty of Northeast Florida...
Nice local preserve. Nature trails, hand boat launch( kayak, canoe,SUP)fishing , picnic and camping facilities available.
Great trails - well maintained. Didn't get too far before the weather turned sour, so didn't get to see all the trails.
A very pretty place with a nice hiking loop. Could use a little bit of sprucing up because people are generally slobs.
AWESOME. Hidden Gem in town! Great for kayaks, canoes, paddle boards, etc etc! The creeks go all over the place.
it's a great natural place to enjoy the scenery fishing canoeing kayaking nature trail quiet peaceful blessed
Most beautiful woods ever. Watch out for ants this time of year they seem to take over in the hot summer days
Great place to camp, grills, walk dogs, fish ,boat launches and bathrooms with showers and a water fountain!
Very nice place for a walk or bike ride (which is what we did.) Pavilions for gatherings and on the water.
Beautiful area to camp in. Make sure you bring a fishing poles out, we're slaying the reds down here haha
Great little getaway in the middle of an urban area. I fish the water around this park and do very well!
Dog friendly easy 1.4 mile walking trail. Keep an eye out for the hidden bird houses along the route.

My favorite preserve in town so far! Pretty trails, boardwalk piers and my go to place for sunsets!
This is a nice place to take a small hike and/or small camping trip on the inter-coastal waterway.
