Do not rent from Europcar. We will never do so again after our recent experience. We rented a car from Europcar in February from the Adelaide City branch. The car they rented to us was defective as it had a tyre which deflated to an unsafe pressure. We returned the car as soon as we discovered the fault as we concerned about the safety of the car, particularly as we had our 5 year old son with us. We had an apartment in the city so limped the car the short distance from our parking garage to Rundle Mall as we did not consider it safe to drive the car any further. Europcar advised us when we returned the car to "not worry about it as it happens all the time". It is our view that Europcar knew about the fault with the tyre as they quickly took it back without any inspection and gave us a replacement vehicle. However, we have now returned to the UK and Europcar is trying to make us pay a damage excess, two replacement tyres! They have already taken two payments in excess of their original quote including a fuel excess (at an extremely extortionate rate) as we weren't able to take the car back with a full tank. This is pretty disgusting behaviour from Europcar when they rented an unsafe car to us in the first place. Also, how could we reasonably drive safely to a fuel station with a defective tyre?
Always rented cars with them. Last time I had to pickup a car at 5:30 pm ( online booking ) from North Terrace. I've finished work and took a taxi with my luggage. Rang the place at 5:22 pm and told the woman on the phone that I'm just around the corner ( King William st and Currie St traffic Lights ) and be there as soon as I can. She said that they will close at 5:30pm. But they accepted my booking at 5:30 pm to pickup the car and I didn't even know that they will close at 5:30. I was begging this lady to wait for a few minutes and I'm around the corner. But I got to the place at 5:33 pm the place was closed!!! There was another customer was so angry and he said he had to return a car at 5:30 and he got there well before the due time and it's closed and no one is even answering his call. When I called their customer service number, I was told to go to the airport... the staff at the airport branch were very helpful and even gave me a free upgrade. But I was delayed over an hour and I had to pay for a taxi and all the stress due the awful situation. I have rented cars from Europcar few times and recommended to many of my friends and family. But next time I'll be going to somewhere else. Awful experience. Wouldn't even deserve 1 star
THIS COMPANY WILL STEAL FROM YOU. We rented a car, were given a quote, paid it and returned the car on time. 2 weeks later Europcar STOLE $600 from my account billing us for someone else's invoice. The dates on the invoice did not match the dates we were in the city. They have avoided our communication for days and have since been presented with evidence of our travel dates and have still refused to return our money. CONSUMER BEWARE: Australia has NO meaningful consumer protection. This is nothing to stop them from doing this, your bank won't help you, legal proceedings will cost far more than the amount stolen, ombudsmen aren't binding. Europcar will do this to you. Just read any of the 1 star rating to see more stories of how they steal from people so regularly it must be company policy. Go with another car rental because this company will steal from you and there is very little you can do about it.
Avoid picking up a vehicle from this location at all costs. There is literally and physically nowhere to stop and park, the road in front and around the shop is one yellow line — so expect the Police to be pretty interested if you try to even pause. They don’t warn you about this when you book, they let you find out when they’ve already got your money. Their “solution” is parking at the top levels of a six story carpark down the street, which makes no sense if you have luggage, or if you aren’t up for walking distances, you know, the exact situations you would be renting a car for in the first place. There is only one person who works here, named Finbar, and he is quite determined not to help you in any way possible, which includes refusing to even explain how to stop your car at the location.
Could have been 4 stars except... Upon arrival, office closed. Had to ring number on door. Call centre apologised for store being closed. It would have been professional and courteous for Europcar to contact beforehand. Come back tomorrow. This was Saturday now to be Sunday. So I did. Walking back to hotel room. Next day, had to ring a mobile no. Lady answered and said she will be there. Lady opened door. Lady explained "They are all from Airport and due to covid, all short staffed." What can you say. What can you do? Apart from that, just fine. 5th floor in Wilson carpark. Handing back car, shop was open and key returned.
I spent about 1400 for a rental over Easter weekend and I left my Glasses and Galaxy watch in the car. They are charging me for shipping it to me in Tasmania. Such great customer service. Comparatively to other car hire companies; I once had left my reading glasses in a car with Hertz in Sydney and they didn't even ask they just shipped it to me. It is the little things that build loyalty Europcar. I'll go back to Hertz. You have just proven that you're overpriced and poor customer focus and I'll not be using you in future.
MAGIC KEY DROP BOX Can't find key drop box! Call to customer service to double check and they said no key drop box at city branch. So I have to come back next day to return (just the key). Then next day nobody here to collect the key at 8.15am, I called again then the MAGIC happened, the box just showed up from nowhere. What a professional car hire company! They should educate their staffs about this BASIC INFORMATION, this should not happen to anyone. This really wasted my time.
VERY RUDE STAFF- A Customer service representative called "Bec" is extremely rude and condescending. I did not feel comfortable asking any questions ect when picking up the vehicle as she was so rude. At one point she was yelling at me because I didn't understand something. It was the worst experience I have ever had. She should not be working in customer service and its a poor representation of the company.
Great check-in experience, an upgrade from a base model vehicle to a BMW 530I with no limit on kms (disclaimer - I have status with their program), and clear instructions on how to get to the parking area (and logically how to bring the car back, it wasn’t that complicated unlike some of the reviews here). What’s not to love? This is a great Europcar branch, and I’ll use them again.
Booked a Holden after searching other car rentals specifically for one , get there early on a Saturday morning to pick up and there's no one at the store. Waited for 20 mins only to then be told that they didn't even have a Holden in Adelaide.... No repercussions.... Completely wasted my time.... I guess it'll be the Pangolins fault ♂️
Terrible. vehicles advertised that are not available - contacting the central contact centre only results in them having to contact the local branch anyway to confirm and get back to you. Having used this group on multiple occasions I can say that unfortunately this bad experience is the standard.
Really terrible experience. Booked a car through Expedia, prepaid with a £30 fee payable at Europcar only. These cheats tacked on a whole bunch of additional charges. And then said I could either pay or leave without the car and not get refunded for my booking. Avoid at all costs!
Office closed on arrival and no means offered by Europcar to get to an alternative location. No effort by Europcar to advise me that the office would not be open. I understand problems with Covid but a quick email could have saved a lot of wasted time and arguments on the phone.
So I rented a car with europcar in Melbourne downtown and told the guy I was leaving the car 4 days later in Adelaide and he wrote on the contract “drop off Melbourne”. And Europcar in Adelaide asked for 400$ just to leave the car in Adelaide.....! Never saw that before
AVOID Booked a van three weeks in advance to move House. Got a call two days before I was supposed to pick up to say not available and could only offer me smaller van. Worst service I've ever had. Complete ute and Van hire much better
Great experience every time. I've rented cars here on many many occasions and have never experienced any issues with anything. Staff are always helpful and the cars are good. Even got a free weekend and a free upgrade.
Great car but needed a degree to drive it. Reception less than helpful and did not return calls. Tried to call the following day after dropping car off in car park. No answer. Shocking lack of service!!!!
Customer service was smooth, had an upgrade which was fantastic and vehicle was great to drive. Exactly what we wanted, small SUV, economical, tinted windows for those hot Adelaide days!

Nobody at the terminal booth so you need to walk to the carpark office. Not a huge deal but would prefer to get the keys and go.

Europcar charged us 5 days instead of four days. They are a corrupt company so stay away from them.
