Finding reputable movers anywhere is no easy task, and it’s made even more challenging when coordinating a move between cities—in my case, from Toronto to Ottawa. I researched all kinds of companies and got many quotes, and while First Rate was certainly not the least expensive of the offerings, they quickly converted me after a brief phone conversation with the owner, Matt. He spoke about his business with pride and detailed some of First Rate’s unique features that benefited its customers and protected the safety its staff: they are fully insured against damage to moved items; they are exceptionally well-equipped, with clean moving tools, coverings, and a fantastic 28-foot truck; and their team is staffed by experienced, professional movers who appear to have a very positive relationship with their work and employer. In just a few quick emails we landed on a move day and booked with a deposit. On move day, the First Rate team (Wes, Zach and Jake) arrived with exceptional punctuality — which is to say, they were physically on-location well in advance of when we expected them, but they waited patiently outside until we were ready to open the door. They expertly navigated a rather tricky parking situation on a busy and narrow residential Toronto street. They greeted us warmly and we had a quick debrief about the space and what was to be moved. They got started right away, and in just a few short hours the team emptied our two-bedroom apartment filled with a decade of accumulated belongings. During this time they scaled the impossibly narrow stairs (three sets of them) dozens of times without a single grumble—in fact, Wes, Zach and Jake were good-humoured, friendly, and very communicative the entire move, checking in about specific items and treating every box as valued. The next morning, the team arrived (again, very promptly) at the move-in destination >400 km away, and moved everything into our new place in under two hours with the exact same care and friendly disposition as they’d had the day before. Payment and tipping (bring cash!) were quick and easy, and we left the exchange feeling like this was money extremely well spent. It’s tough to put a precise value on what we saved in stress, but we certainly saved a lot! We have since been singing the praises of First Rate to whomever will listen, and we intend to use them again for our next move. Communication: We needed to execute an unexpected move and Matt was so helpful in finding a convenient date/time to accommodate our pressing needs. In addition, both Jesse and Aaron were exceedingly polite and professional during the moving process. Accurate Cost Estimate: The quote that was provided by Matt was exceptionally accurate. They put out runners throughout our space to ensure no damage to the hardwood flooring. There was not one damaged furniture item, wall or floor from this operation Efficient: Jesse and Aaron were prepared with the required number of covers, packaging and dolly carts, they were so efficient with how they executed the move. Flexibility: First Rate Movers were also flexible with the discarding of one of our furniture pieces that we needed to dispose of. During the move, I called Matt and he provided some helpful options that allowed us to get rid of the item. Over the course of our many years in Ottawa, we have moved on a number of occasions. By far and away, First Rate Movers are the best moving company we have used and I would highly recommend them to others. We moved on Dec 22, 2020. Our crew was lead by Wes, including Zach, Cody and Rob. We were super impressed with their care and concern for our items valueable and non. Very professional, polite, and hard working crew. They went the extra mile to ensure that ALL our stuff was cared for and packaged properly to the best of their ability. The crew worked hard only taking a 5 min break here and there and they worked so well together as a team. At first we thought we had so much stuff that we may need two trips with the truck to our new home. However, these guys are TETRIS masters and were able to pack all of our 4 bedroom 4 bathroom townhouse into one truckload! We were super impressed with their ability to minimize the trips and thus the cost for us. As wel, we really appreciated the time they took on the other end unpacking the truck, placing items in their proper spots and setting up the beds for us! This made our move so much more relaxing and helped us settle in much faster. I will not hesitate to use them again and will definitely HIGHLY recommend First rate movers to family and friends. Would highly recommend first rate movers to anyone! They are careful with your belongings and wrap everything in blankets to protect from the elements and the move. They are organized and fast. The gentlemen working for this company love what they do and always have a good professional personality. This was my second time moving with first rate movers. They come prepared with dollies, and a huge basket to put mix matched items in, as well as wrap and tape and blankets. When it gets to their truck they organize it by furniture/boxes/mix match items for easy and fast transport into your new home. Once into your new home they put down red carpets to protect your floors, which gives them passages to go from room to room without marking your floors. They will set up your bed frames for you and place your mattresses on the frames. When putting your items into the new house they are careful and very organized with where they place your items and make it so you can easily grab something to unpack when it is your time to do so. Thank you first rate movers! I will be using you again in the future! I recommend you to everyone!

First Rate Movers are Rock Stars!!! The crew (Wes, Andrew, Jessie, Zack, Jake and Aaron) were professional, beyond efficient and extremely cohesive as a team. In under four hours, they loaded 25 years of our lives into two trucks, drove 93 kilometers and unloaded everything into our new home. They took extreme care to wrap every single piece of furniture with moving blankets and disassembled and re-assembled our gym equipment. Their teamwork is so well established that they hardly had to speak about what needed to be done, everyone just started working. They were also very pleasant to deal with and handled the move with humor and grace. I should also mention that Matt coordinated the details of the move with me and was informative and attentive. We hired First Rate Movers to help us with our move from Ottawa to Toronto. Wes, Zach and Cody were our movers. They impressed us very positively from the beginning to the end. The representative I spoke to when asking for a quote was professional, clear and detailed in what they could do for what price and responses to further questions were swift. The movers themselves arrived promptly on the scheduled day and very quickly had our stuff wrapped safely and packed away. It was honestly shocking how fast it was. They were equally quick and efficient when getting everything into the new location, champing it all up 1-2 flights of stairs and the couch over the balcony. Wes, Matt, and Adam provided us with a stress-free move within the Ottawa area. This is an excellent company, with great staff. Matt responded by phone within 30 minutes of my online request for an estimate. He worked with my schedule to determine what timeframe would work best for my move. He responded to voicemails. The estimate he gave me was what I paid, and he was totally transparent about pricing. The moving crew were pleasant, professional, and amazingly efficient. (My move was from a 3rd floor walk-up.) Everything was as described on the website and in emails. Many of the crew have worked for the company for 15+ years, which tells you something. Moving is stressful. Great team and communication with Matt Guest. I used them before when I bought my first place 10 years ago. Happy to see the quality of service was just as excellent as it was back then. I've used First Rate movers twice now and both times were excellent! The process was very clear start to finish, everyone was great and helped answer all of my questions pre move. The movers are so lovely, really kind, and care a lot about doing a good job. I really love that they take apart and put back together large items like bed frames and desks for you. They also were really accommodating when I needed two stops on my move. Both of my moves with them have gone perfectly, and I'll definitely be using them again in the future!

Hired First Rate Movers after contacting several other companies and so glad I did. Was very impressed by their professionalism, speed and friendliness. They arrived on time, put runners everywhere (we had wall-to-wall beige carpeting), wrapped up all furniture in blankets, dismounted the bed and tables, went down 2 flights of stairs to the truck, and when the move was over there was nothing scratched, no dirty floors or marks on the walls and was billed as estimated. The movers were really fast at loading our items into their truck. They also did a great job preparing our bed for the move, and even helped us get it setup in the new house! The movers also handled all fragile items with great care, and everything got to my new house safe and sound. They were very accommodating with any special requests, and were very cheerful & friendly. Despite the higher hourly rate, this group is terrific value and that's why we've used them many times now

Matt and his team were great, they always had our best interest in mind. They were the only movers we could find who could hoist the sofa over the balcony and there was an extra surcharge for the same. But Matt's team tried their best (and succeeded) to avoid the hoisting fee and move the sofa using the narrow stariway. They were great and really quick and managed to stick to the minimum time agreed even though we went over the number of boxes quoted. I would highly recommend them.
