The hotel in general needs refurbishment and updating but specifically room 205 (a "suite") was disappointing to say the least. Facing onto North Terrace gives a nice view but the noise on a weekend night and early hours was terrible. Double glazing or other noise inhibiting solutions are required. My partner tried sleeping on the couch in the lounge room but this was just as noisy given the windows in that room were the same. Other disappointments were stained/dirty carpet, no drinking water supplied, and low water pressure in the shower and vanity tap. This room also features a strange, dysfunctional layout. The "suite" was a strange, emptyish room with the workdesk, robe and kettle/fridge alcove, and a small couch. A big floor area with not much function or style. The bathroom included a shower over bath, but to enter or exit the shower around the fixed shower glass, one must be able bodied, because you need to clamber over the toilet, which has been placed too close. The floor space only allows one person at a time, just. Turning the over-large lounge into a bathroom could work! Other minor suggestions: while we appreciated the pod coffee machine and milk frother, supplying real milk rather than UHT might be nice, as well as some drinking water; an extra blanket or two and spare pillows in the cupboard is sometimes needed but wasn't supplied. Positives included that staff were lovely, helpful and efficient, no trouble with entry and exit to the building or the room.

The service was really bad, so we decided to extend our stay, so we booked another day. Confirmed with the front desk staff the night before and was told that it had been done, as long as the card was activated after midnight. Because we would be back very late the next day, we went to the front desk after 12:00 to reactivate the card, and the front desk said everything was done. But when we got back to the hotel in the evening, the card didn't work, so we took the card and went to the front desk to reactivate it. This time it was another receptionist. When I was talking to him about the activation card and explaining it to him, he interrupted me several times. I can't even finish a sentence, and after I pointed it out, he showed a very impatient attitude and said I was listening in a very impolite manner. Even though the problem was solved later, I was still very angry because the receptionist didn't listen to me carefully from the beginning, and he was very impatient all the time, and what's even more outrageous, I didn't get an apology the whole time. Not only we failed to activate it many times, it also ruined our good mood for vacation. This hotel is absolutely not recommended.

The website makes the hotel look in better condition than it is, it's very run down. Thankfully I was given a room that was nice and quiet and reasonably clean (lots of carpet staining) so my stay was ok, given it was a work trip. But if I'd paid for this hotel out of my own pocket for a holiday I wouldn't have felt great about it. The breakfast was definitely not great. Out of the 7 nights I was there I utilised it twice, reverting to going down the road to The Coffee Club to get something decent. The take-away style results in a huge amount of packaging waste, even though it's not plastic. People would take a paper carry bag with their utensils in it, only to carry it to a table a few meters away and then put it all in the bin a few minutes later once they'd finished. So many wasted paper carry bags. The bin was overflowing. It was really hard to witness and completely unsustainable. Rattly (noisy) vending machine when I got out of the lift on the 3rd floor was also off-putting. I'd strongly encourage the hotel to renovate asap. It's in a good location so I'd consider staying there again if that occurred, and everything was brought up to scratch.

Quiet
We have stayed at many Accor hotels around the world and was the first time we stayed at a Grosvenor Hotel. The staff were fantastic and did everything to assist us using the facilities that were available to them. Moving past the lobby, the hotel looks tired in particular the lift and is in need for a refurbishment however we could live with this. The big plus is the hotel rooms are spacious, clean and serviced well. Our biggest disappointment was the restaurant, which we expected through the advertising and general hotel images. To our amazement these we none. We ended having to walk 15 minutes to another hotel for dinner. We were expecting the usual cooked breakfast and to our amazement, was served paper plates and bowels with picnic style/takeaway format snack. Needless to say that this was our worst Accor breakfast we have has anywhere in all our travels. We feel that this is not the issue or fault of the staff but the lack of facilities.

Kid-friendly
The Grosvenor is an older city centre hotel which is showing its age a little. However they have a hardworking maintenance and cleaning staff that react and minimise any problems. The rooms are clean and tidy if looking a little tired, and the beds are comfortable. The main problem with the rooms is that most rooms have windows that face towards a building void or towards a wall of another building. There is therefore reduced light entering the rooms. There are vending machines on each floor near the lifts. These are stocked with snacks and chilled drinks. Each room has tea and coffee making facilities for hot drinks, and additional supplies will be supplied if needed. The biggest positive is location. It is very close to the main shopping and entertainment areas. It is opposite the railway station and also has a tram line and tram stop outside the front of the hotel. The staff are also a positive asset, we found that all that we had dealings with to be helpful, friendly and professional.

This hotel is very much in need of a refurbishment the carpets were badly stained throughout and the whole complex has a bad smell. The mattress was stained and the bathrooms were very small. This hotel should be advertised as such and should be priced at a much lower rate to reflect the standard. The pics on the website are not a true indication of the quality of the rooms and hotel

Noteworthy details
The staff were friendly and helpful
Look we got what we paid for. I've never been in a hotel room where I cannot control the temperature. Some airflow would have been nice. The room was tidy but dusty and played with my allergies. But all in all a great location especially if you want to enjoy the nightlife.

Cheap everything worked but pretty dated.
Nearby activities
Bars, clubs, strippers are all close. Train station, parliament building. Everything else city based is about a 15 min walk.
Food & drinks
No room service. We had a vending machine on our floor..otherwise I think uber eats was rather popular based on what we saw from other people.

Great value
We opted for a budget room and The Grosvenor did not disappoint. It was well appointed, beds were excellent, abundant towels were provided and lounge furniture was extra comfortable. What impressed us the most was the service we received from front of house and housekeeping staff. A request for assistance with a minor problem at 9pm was attended by housekeeping staff within minutes. In a location where car parking is premium, we really appreciated that Accor provided us with a safe place to park our car at a very reasonable price. A special thanks to Belinda from housekeeping.

Ideally situated near to many places of interest in Adelaide. Yes it is a little dated but my room is adequate for what I needed in a hotel room, a comfortable bed. For A$15 there is a continental breakfast available but I would give it a miss. There was a distinct lack of choice. The only juice available was packaged as was the milk. The position of the hotel is ideal but there really is not much more going for this rather tired looking hotel

Prime location! The staff where pleasant to deal with. The price is reasonable. Room was quite clean. Only downside was the AC in the room needs updating. Highly recommended advertising parking is additional cost and the max height is 2m. Other than that, it's a perfect budget friendly Hotel.

I prefer rooms on the lower floors so was very happy to be on the 2nd floor. Lift access using room key offers appreciated security. My room, whilst compact, had everything needed and was very comfortable. The cleaning options were good, I could miss a day when wished. I did not need any dining options as I was in Adelaide for a convention.

Great value
Spent one night in the city with the kids for fun. Hotel was well priced, very conveniently located shops/restaurants/activities. Had a lovely little continental breakfast in the morning. Were also able to get our bags held at the hotel whilst we went out shopping before catching the train home. It was great not having to drag our bags around whilst shopping.

I was quite surprised that our window were fully frosted over and let in no light. There was a constant noise of pigeons nesting outside the window and the room overall was very dark and depressing. The bed was small and seemed to be on wheels. I would not recommend to anyone. I think you can do better for $210 per night.

Service was good. Great location. Unfortunately the smell in the corridor to the bedroom and the bedroom on floor 4 has a mouldy old carpet smell. The bed was not comfortable. If parking on sure it's best to take a smaller car. It was extremely difficult to park out territory when parking is almost full.

My wife and I visited family in Adelaide after 5 years and our stay at the Grosvenor was awesome. From check-in to check-out, the staff were very helpful and although it took a day or two to normalise our parking routine we were very happy with our stay.

Rooms are very tired and not well cared for. Easily the worst Mercurexwe have ever stayed in. First room we were offered didn't even have a proper window in it. Rooms need a refresh and a deep clean. Whole place smells musty and there are thick layers of dust everywhere, even large cobwebs around windows

liked the room, good bed and in general very good. however, breakfast lets you down. process is mean and controlling/ had one very very small danish ( no sir, you can't have 2 ) and a coffee for $15. not a good start for the day
