Yes there are some friendly folks that work here, but my latest experience has taught me to go elsewhere for Stihl repairs. Keep in mind that Hedlund's is an authorized Stihl dealer. Took my Stihl blower in for repair. Got called that same day that the repairs were completed. Wow! Same day! I am really impressed. All the other places I called had a wait time of about 10 days. Pick up the blower, pay the $42 dollars and change and get it home only to discover that the problem was not fixed. (The motor would not run at max RPM's). Anyone with a blower knows this issues defeats the entire purpose of having one. Take it back. One week later (no call from Hedlund's) I call and inquire the status. They could nit find a problem. Go back, pick up blower, Mike Hedlund, gruff, occasionally unfriendly, tells me again they tested it, blew off their parking lot, found nothing wrong. Take the blower outside their business, start it up...same issue! Call them outside to show them that I was not a complete moron and their answer to me was, and I quote: "Sorry, there's just so much we can do". Went immediately to Reynold's Farm Equipment (where I usually go) They tested the machine, diagnosed the problem as something in the carburetor, and suggested I try a gasoline additive/stabilizer, rather than replace the carburetor to the tune of $125. Took the machine home...five minutes later, runs like a top again. Moral of this story: don't bother with Hedlund's for repairs of this type and do NOT expect friendly, customer service either. I wasted my time and money. Never again.
I went to Hedlund Hardware on Keystone today. I stopped at the key rings display. While I'm looking at different key rings, a male employee and male customer were talking Politics. Everyone has their own opinion concerning the Presidential election. My concern is when the conversation turned to the football game on Sunday. The cashier asked the customer would he be playing tomorrow and he told him no. The cashier said "take a knee" and started laughing about his comment. The customer was startled to see me and when I walked to the register so was the cashier.
WOW!!! We have driven by several times and said “wow that looks like a classic hardware store we have to stop in sometime” We finally decided it was time and checked it out. It’s beautiful. Product floor to ceiling, narrow aisles, makes you feel like you’re in your grandpas storage room or something. Why bother with an ACE, or any other hardware store when you could stop in here?? They don’t make them like this anymore!! Incredible.
I've been going here for as long as I've been walking past the place since 1985. They've always been helpful on anything I wanted to repair for the sake of the conversation. Recently, I went in to purchase something small that I knew was fairly cheap, only for someone to ask a price that was double in amount. I hope someone figures it out cause that put it in my mind that they're not here to help anymore. That'll be my last visit.
I have had three projects that I was working on and needed items, and every time I went in I was greeted and ask if I needed any help. Each time they were not only able to guide me to what I needed but also figure out what exactly I needed and if there was a better way to do. I will only be going here for any of my hardware needs.
when I need hardware, BBQ seasoning, or advice, this is where I have gone for 45 years! After building four recording studios there is NO place in Indy I would rather go. A family business, with family values. I got to meet the grandfather and father. The young people running this business are great. OnLine too!!!
I live in the area and have always loved this place. Wish the guys would wear masks. Please be safe and aware, neither one of the guys working today had their face coverings over their mouths... Gators/scarves around their necks doing nothing to protect others. I will choose somewhere else next time.
This place is a blast from the past. The Hedlunds are definitely salty and sometimes abrasive, but they are extremely helpful. They always have that one weird thing that is super hard to find or fills a very specific need; and even if they don't, they will help find a solution that works.
Incredibly disorganized(but not in the fun old school hardware store way), very grumpy and rude men working there who were not very helpful, and it seems like when something doesn’t have a marked price(which is most of the inventory) they
Great place ; they are right across from Lowe’s so you would think it would be hard for them to compete. I often find myself going to Hedlund, though, because the expertise of the staff is beyond what I’ve found at the bigger stores.
Yep, they have it and much more! Have a list and ask for help. Small store for inventory available. Shelves are tall and full. Good folk to help gather your things and get ya back to work or find the part you can't name.
Store has been in existence for 93 years. I think some of the original hardware is still hidden in some of the corners. Only place I can find pigs are flying Duct tape. Great store just ask where things are located.
I go here for small things sometimes. An the staff is always rude. Very unprofessional would not recommend this store to anybody unless they get people in there that are kind an actually care about a customer.
My husband went into to this place thinking it was like Ace needless to say it was so much stuff you couldn't walk in the store. Super crowded. And they didn't carry what we needed, which was Magnolia paint.
Knowledgeable salesman..great hospitality..and the feel of being in a big city..but warm like a small city country store..prices are far better than most stores...sales associates will match or beat price
Aisles are tight, organization is esoteric and parking lot is crowded. Staff are knowledgeable, helpful and it's a hardware store, not a big box corporation. Almost always my first stop for home repairs.
This place is great needed some fuel for my stihl products I was glad they had what I was looking for since the the other hardware store up the street stop selling it I will definitely stop by again
Most unorganized store ever....BUT...if you are looking for a specific part, screw, bolt, or nut...the manager knows where it's at. Faster than Lowes by a long shot! A store from a different era....
If you're looking for something for your house, this is the place to find it. Walls full of plumbing and electrical supplies, kitsch and useful gadgets. Well worth the drive and the time spent.
Really small hardware store and broad ripple it might look a bit crazy inside and small on the outside but has everything you need in it staff is really great at hoping you and finding things
This is an old school hardware store of period they still believe in customer service and are very friendly. Prices are competitive thought in is a much better experience than corporate
I thought their prices would be double a large chain hardware store or selection would be smaller. But Lowe's didn't have brass clean-out covers only plastic and no half sizes.
4th generation hardware store..locals love the location..very crammed giving you a China town store feel..but very friendly help and small locally owned business to the core..
I love this place! Forget about Lowe's. You would not BELIEVE how many tools and project supplies they fit in here. Literally stocked from floor to ceiling. Go check it out!
Best hardware store and staff! They have everything and if you’re a kind, personable, respectful human you’ll get the full experience this place offers lol love Hedlund!
Packed to the gills with most everything you'll need, the staff has always been helpful to me, and I like just browsing this "corner hardware store" to see what I find.
Place is cluttered and I told staff what I needed and he sold me the wrong item. Luckily I could use it for something else. Also, way over priced. Live and Learn.
Great hardware store. Very crowded with goods both on shelf and hanging. Small parking lot, helpful staff who usually knows where the stuff is at.
Reminds me of the HW stores of yesteryear. Stacked to the ceiling with everything you can think of and the staff knows where everything is
Good customer service, and has kit candy and large size tootsie roll pops like back in the 60's and early 70's! And had the brown lysol!
$40 for a citronella candle and 2 bottles of tiki torch fluid? I support local businesses but will not be returning to this one.
I came in with parts from my mower and they helped me right away with replacements. Great service and advice. I will be back.
Great local business that has been here for over 80 years. Loaded with about anything hardware/home improvement you'd need.
Had keys made only half of them worked after we did some clean up on keys, burrs left on the keys. Poor workmanship.
Everyone needs to visit at least once. I think they have a little bit of everything! Great price on wild birdseed.
When These big box stores can't help you, come to Hedlund's. Where you get what is needed to complete the job!!!!
If you can't find it anywhere else, you can find it here. Great selection, great customer service.
This 90 year-old classic hardware store has EVERYTHING. Don't pass it by. You will be amazed.
Shop/buy/support local. A lot of stuff here and the staff knows about each and every piece
They got it all..if you can find it without asking for help then you are the Man !!
If you need it, they have it. Just be sure to ask before searching on your own.
An excellent locale for friendly, personalized assistance with hardware needs.
Highly recommend. Very personable compared to your big box hardware stores.
Ive always loved this place. Stuff is hard to find but the staff will help.
If they don't have it they surely will help you figure out how to get it
My go to place for hard to find items. Old school in there. I love it.
Very cool. It's very old school. They have a little bit of everything.
They had what we were looking for. The Staff was very knowledgeable.
