We hired a Mitsubishi SUV, Reg I-63-MA, from 2/11/21 to 25/11/21. There were a number of issues which led to our unsatisfactory experience with Hertz in November 2021. Firstly, while we accept reasonable wear and tear and scratches on hire cars, this car was dirty and there were cobwebs. I cleaned the car twice during our 3 week hire period and cobwebs re-appeared. Clearly, there are spiders underneath the bonnet and behind the rear taillights that have not been removed by Hertz. Secondly - and the major annoying issue – CarPlay was virtually inoperative. We actually took the hire car to Mitsubishi in Brisbane Street in Hobart the next morning (3/11/21) – at some inconvenience to us. The helpful sales manager said because previous renters’ logins had not been cleared, we were unable to register our own iPhone. Worse, both USB ports were so damaged the onboard CarPlay couldn’t engage. He suggested we buy some Bluetack from Officeworks to try to anchor the connecting cord which we did but CarPlay dropped out whenever we hit a bump. We are also aware that the WiFi doesn’t work in some parts of Tasmania- that was not the issue. It was also inconvenient for us to swop the car. My wife had to call out directions with her iPhone in her lap for much of our trip. This was frustrating and unsatisfactory. Thirdly, the final invoice had many additional charges which were not mentioned at the point of booking or when we collected the car. The fact that there is a higher charge to collect and return the car to the Hertz airport depot was a surprise. It was impossible to read the contract on our iPhones anyway when we picked the car up. We also paid a $100 bond which did not appear on the invoice (or its reinstatement) and the $800+ insurance is not there either. The invoice is useless to us as the client apart from showing the six additional charges after the fact. Fourthly, the counter staff at Hertz Hobart airport were inept and indifferent. We would never hire a car from Hertz again.

DISASTROUS EXPERIENCE. NOT RECOMMENDED FOR FOREIGNERS. DO NOT EXPECT THEM TO HELP YOU IF YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS. We rented an electric car, since there was little choice of normal car because it was high season and a Hertz agent recommended it as our best option, not being aware of the operation of this type of vehicles in Tasmania and misinforming us, we had to find our own way to reach the destinations of our trip, when our problems with the vehicle charging began we called all the contact numbers of Hertz and none knew how to help us or give us a solution, they were passing the problem from one to another without giving us any solution, something totally unforgivable. The problem they have is that they do not have an agreement with all the chargers, we found out that there are different chargers and that we could only charge in Evie (which only have 4 charging points throughout the island), and we as Europeans could not download the ChargeFox application because it was not available on our devices, anyway, we could not enjoy our trip or reach all the destinations we had planned because of a bad explanation by Hertz. I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE. They should train all their agents on this issue to not recommend an incompatible product for that place or at least know how to help the customer and not ruin their plans.

We booked two cars 3 months in advance, and received confirmation for both reservations. A day prior to picking up the cars, I received two reminder emails for the reservations - one for each car. Yet when we arrived at Hobart Airport, they told me only one reservation could be found and that the other has been cancelled. I received no notification of the cancellation. We had requested for child car seats for both cars, and they told me there was nothing they could do because no one was available to fit the car seats for us, leaving us with no option other than to drive the car home without the car seats with two kids or to take a taxi and to find our way to the rental office the next morning to pick up the car. The gentleman serving us was not apologetic nor was he being helpful. All he said was there was nothing he could do. Not a good start to our trip at all.

Customer Service wasn’t so good at Hobart airport. Agent: you need to pay three hundred fifty four. Me : no it was only 300 plus something. Agent: yes its three hundred fifty four. Me: how? Agent: its is 300 dollars 54 cents. ——— Next question Me : how much is my excess Agent: we cant reduce your excess as you are on business rates Me: but i am asking whats my excess. Agent : $2200 The agent was lost in his own world. took 10 plus minutes to serve another customer before me (2 people standing behind), but he wanted to rush me out and not listening to my questions with only 1 person standing behind me. This agent was training another new agent and was of subcontinent origin & i am from subcontinent too but didnt expect such pathetic service from Hertz location.

Unfortunately, Hertz neglected to conduct a thorough inspection on the vehicle we were allocated, which not only lacked proper cleanliness but also posed a significant safety hazard, as indicated by an active warning. Despite having already reached our destination, we promptly notified Hertz of the issue, only to be instructed to return the unsafe car to the airport for an exchange. It is deeply concerning that we were compelled to drive a potentially dangerous vehicle back, without receiving any apology or acknowledgment from Hertz for their oversight. Consequently, we will be submitting a formal complaint directly to Hertz and will reevaluate the suitability of renewing our corporate subscription plan with them.

I had two terrible experiences in the one weekend with Hertz. One in Adelaide and the other in Hobart. On the COVID lockdown Friday we hired a car and got less that 30km from Hobart airport before we had to return and fly out before lockdown. The counter staff assured us we would be looked after and that fuel from them was cheaper than at local service stations. This is a SCAM. They charged nearly $30 for less than 6l of fuel and hit us for the full day of hire. Combined with their less than ethical hidden costs and gouging insurance pricing steer clear of these scammers and do not trust anything they tell you. Very disappointed with Hertz. Dishonest activity, completely filled the fuel in the car and returned less than 5 km and was still charged $36. 13 plus GST! In total $49.34 was being charged to my credit card!! Dodgy! For anyone hiring from Hertz at Hobart Airport, these are all the unfounded fees charged to our credit card which people need to be aware of. FUEL (even though we filled it up less then 5 km away) admin fee, credit card surcharge, location fee and GST!!! Furthermore at time of writing, we have still not been credited the remainder of our $100 deposit, so it would seem like you are quick to charge but slow to refund! If I could give u NO star, I would!

We hired a car with Hertz last year and the car itself was great and it didn't fail on us. The girl working at the service desk was ok, she seemed like she didn't want to be there and probably hated the job. And she kept reminding me that if anyone hits the car even if it wasn't our fault that we would have to pay thousands of dollars in damages which kind of puts a downer on the trip because you are thinking the whole time (If I crash this car or someone hits it then I'm going to be made bankrupt paying back money in damages).

‼️We had booked an Intermediate SUV 2WD online. At the counter, we were told to wait for 10 minutes for the car. After 15 minutes, we inquired about the delay. They informed us that they didn't have the Intermediate SUV in their inventory, which meant we had waited for nothing. Ultimately, they offered us an alternative and requested that we wait another 10 minutes, which, in reality, took significantly longer than expected. This experience is a BIG red flag regarding the company's reliability.

Well what a cluster F! I visit Hobart regularly for work and my company always books cars through Hertz, every other airport it’s as simple as jump in car, keys waiting and show license as you drive off. Here.....after standing in line for 48min you finally get the opportunity to get keys after they go through all the details that are already submitted and correct on my profile. They certainly work to Island time.

The staff here are fantastic - the man who was on site to receive our returned vehicle at the airport was nice and friendly. The process was quick and easy and payment came off my card, without any surprise fees, a day later. Great company, nice range of cars and the staff really made it. Even though we only hired the car for two days, the whole experience made it great. Thank you!

We booked a Nissan Qashqei but were given a Mitsubishi ASX. While I understand the booking is for a category of car as opposed to a specific make/model, it was the staff member’s abrupt response that “Hertz has never had a Nissan Qashqei onsite” that annoyed us. If that’s the case, perhaps you should take it off the website so your customers can expect to get a Mitsubishi ASX.

Very poor experience. Camper van was booked months ahead, but not ready when we arrived in the morning. Staff was unapologetic and offered that we could pick up a vehicle the next day (?!). All the bookings had to be changed and we lost money between that, and the prepaid insurance. Oh - and the rental office doesn't have wifi. GOOD LUCK!

Rented a camper station wagon and was thoroughly impressed. Came with absolutely everything you could need including clean bath and tea towels, dish soap, dishes/cutlery, extra dish bins, grill, tables, chairs, bedding, cooler, portable tv, lighters, kettle, extension cords, etc! Great price, friendly staff.

They need to give clearer instructions as to returning the vehicle. Key drop is near the autorent office (near the front door) but there was no one available to help us answer our questions. You could try and park the car in one of the parking bays and drop the keys inside the airport in hertz office.

Had to wait an hour in line to collect the car from Hobart Airport. Called to see if it was possible to extend my booking by two hours for the drop off time.. Customer service was very unhelpful and could not do anything to accomodate. Next time I will be going through another provider.

Very bad, dodgy and untrustworthy. They charged me for petrol even though I returned the car with full petrol. Please avoid this company or you regret it as you will have lots of problems. They also have all these hidden charges which is not made clear to you at the outset.

I cant fault Hertz on service and quality. Sadly they have become one of the most expensive car rentals and have a very high excess on the car too. Moving over to Avis as they are half the price. I have taken it up with the head office and no response. Will miss you guys.

My stay with Hertz was very convenient and easy to follow. I setup my payment online and didn't have to scan my card on site. Walk to car is very reasonable and the employee assisting was very nice. I would recommend using Hertz if in the area as they are a great group.

Tassie locals shouldn't have to pay extra for bond. Just because a handful of idiots have been irresponsible with the cars doesn't mean everyone in Tassie is like that. Asian lady at counter was short and rude as well.
