Really friendly helpful staff who are passionate about the place and history of the historic site. I’m sad to have missed the tour but they have a run down and let me in some of the open rooms to have a look around. Highly recommend visiting, local Hobartians have mentioned to me it is a good tour! More

Visited for the ghost tour and was entranced by the amazing history of the place. This place is scary by night, especially when you're locked in the cells. It's a lot of fun and the tour guides are very knowledgeable. Make sure you wear flats or sneakers as the old stone floors are very uneven. More

Ghost tour in the evening was super spooky whilst also being very informative of the history of the building. If you are scared of cramped spaces and the dark probably best not to attend. You can also visit the Penitentiary during the day. Will review when I do. More

We really enjoyed our visit Matt was a very knowledgeable guide. The history is fascinating you learn so much about the site disappointing that so much of the site was lost. The immersive movie was very interesting and enjoyable. Would definitely recommend. More

The tour was fascinating. I would go on this again because I am sure I don't recall all the information that was given. Oscar was so very kind to us as we waited for the tour to begin and Brendan was a wonderful guide. I definitely recommend this tour. More

This is only available by guided tour and the cost is $35 per adult but it is EXTREMELY WORTH IT! The tours are at specific times (we did it at 1pm) but there are other times as well. Make sure you look up the times as you cannot go through

My visit to the Hobart Convict Penitentiary was a memorable and enriching experience. The admission fee of $25/pax includes a 90-minute guided tour, which also features a 30-minute film. It was our last stop in Tasmania, which completes the

A small but equally historic alternative to Port Arthur if you don't have time to get out of Hobart. We very much enjoyed our 90 min guided tour of the Old Penitentiary & Chapel in Hobart. Lots of convict history, colonial architecture and

Our group of 6 joined a tour led by Angela. It was a fantastic experience, great mix of information and things to see. Its a sombre place, and Angela's commentary was so interesting and respectful that it really provided another dimension

Have to say, after seeing Fremantle Gaol, (not to mention Port Arthur - but that was years ago), we were bitterly disappointed with the Penitentiary! There's hardly anything to see! Most of it has been pulled down, there are only 2 cells

This was an amazing tour and our guide Sarah was fabulous. Yes it is a smaller site than some of the other historical jail sites but boy does it pack a punch. We learnt the history of the remaining parts of the building (unfortunately a

Tour was interesting. Included two video presentations which were approx 25 minutes. Our guide was less of a guide and more of a teacher. Interesting stories and history but not engaging. More

An excellent 90 minute tour including a 40 minute visual display which was excellent. Mark was a wonderful tour guide and we learnt a lot about early life in the penal colony.
