BEWARE! We purchased a number of items from Hold It over the past few years and it was all fine, but now that Eddie is in charge, it's no longer the same place. We make an effort to support local stores like Hold It. Our recent attempted purchase was for a couch my wife found on the internet. We found out that Hold It was an authorized dealer, so we went to the store to make the purchase to keep them in business, even though we knew we'd have to eat the cost for sales tax. Our salesperson Netali was helpful, which is why this is 2 stars instead of 1. While the salesperson was pricing the couch, my wife found a coffee table she liked on display. Of course, we felt compelled to purchase from Hold It because we found it there. It's available cheaper online, but just trying to be fair and give Netali the sale. Hold It had an online ad that said everything from this manufacturer (Mobital) was 25% off. They still have it up as I post this a month later... The showroom price was 15% off, so we asked Hold It to match their own ad price. Seemed pretty reasonable! Turns out the ad was for a sale that just ended. Fine, but most places will honor their price if they keep advertising it. Eddie, the manager (and owner?), said the manufacturer controls pricing and they wouldn't allow him, even though they still had the ad up. So, I called the manufacturer (Canadian company, so nice folks) and they emailed Hold It permission to sell the table at the 25% off advertised price. Great . . . but Eddie then went back on his word and said he no longer is willing to honor the price. He didn't care that he had wasted my time with calling the manufacturer and handled the entire discussion in a rude and condescending manner. Said he didn't need our business and dared me to post to Yelp. He wanted to be a "winner" and prove how tough he was. He was clear that nobody was going to push him around! So I just ordered it online and saved money and effort. By the way, Eddie didn't do so well with the couch either. He gave us a price 50% over the cost at multiple other places, even though he knew we found the couch online and what the price was. We went out of our way to support local brick and mortar, but it didn't seem reasonable to pay more than the price we'd already found it for. We were trying to do Hold It a favor and keep them in business! It took 60 seconds to just purchase the couch on my phone instead, so whatever, that was their choice. It's a sad situation. We used to like this store. It's a lot easier to buy online, but we tried to support them and keep them in business, even understanding it costs us more. It's bad for all the salespeople to work for a manager like this. He keeps them from getting the commissions they earn with their efforts to make sales. I don't see how the store will last, which is unfortunate. It used to have good salespeople and fair pricing under reasonable management. Still have the salespeople, but be aware that ultimately all decisions are made by Eddie who is not going to honor anything you're told--which is theoretically the big advantage to shopping a local store. Turns out that it's easier and cheaper to just buy online where you get email confirmation and everything is clear. So sad about Hold It.
If you do buy here expect to get treated like you did a Craig's List transaction off the back of a sketchy guy's beat up pick up. Horrible customer service. Zero, zilch nada flexibility on their policies. Intentionally aggravated customers. So, here's the deal: Ordered a sofa from their warehouse stock on Wednesday afternoon. Went home and did some additional measuring. It is actually a little too small for the space. So, I went back to the store in under 24 hrs to cancel it. It is a stock item at their local warehouse ---per the Sales Associate and the Sales order form--- and was not scheduled for delivery until four days from now. So, at this point it is only paperwork as the stock sofa is still unmoved in the local warehouse. And, it isn’t a clearance item. No reason NOT to just take care of the customer. Why a retail store manager would be this rigid is hard to explain—unless there are solvency or cash flow issues. Before retiring I was the President of a company with nearly 300 employees. If I gad a District Manager being this unreasonable he’d have been gone that day. But, Hold-It only has 3 stars so that’s pretty indicative Store Manager said it is just not "our policy" to give refunds on any furniture items. Yet, paperwork says I can "return" any stock item within 10 days. I'm now filing a Small Claims Action against them and have filed a dispute with the credit card company. So, ridiculous. But, a cautionary tale: If this rigidity toward a first time customer over something so easy to resolve is any indication you will get zero support should their be an issue with your very pricey contemporary furniture. I'd recommend that you avoid at all costs. If you do buy here expect to get treated like you did a Craig's List transaction off the back of a sketchy guy's beat up pick up.
Do not trust this store. The management is untrustworthy, arrogant, and careless. They will tell you anything to sell their goods without ever having any intentions to honor their commitments. I bought a few sets of furniture for my house from this store about two years ago. At the time, they told me that per their return policy I could return them for a full refund if the furniture did not fit my house the way I like. However, when I tried to return the furniture, they reneged and made the excuse that because the plastic wraps around the furniture were opened!!, they could only give me store credit. Naively, I initially agreed to get store credit. I got two chairs and agreed to get two art pieces for the rest. The salespeople and the manager all knew me. I was told to come back the next week to get the artworks. Sadly, the store manager passed away during this time, the old salespeople were let go, and a new manager with new salespeople was brought in. The issue dragged on unresolved for a long while. Not knowing what was going on with the store management, I returned to the store to get what I was promised. This time, they simply denied the whole thing and no one at the store was willing to follow up and do what they had agreed to do. I tried to contact the new manager and resolve the issue. Several times he asked me to wait a week so he could resolve the matter. It has been six months now and I have had many unreturned and ignored calls and emails. The manager is totally untrustworthy. I am weighing my legal options in dealing with this store and its management. Do not do business with them.
Horrible customer service. The sales associates don't seem interested in providing assistance to the customer. They are not friendly. I tried to walk in on a thursday and tell them that I wanted to buy a bed that I saw on their website. The sales associate didn't have a price and she told me that due to the Labor Day Sale going on that weekend, she was not going to get around to inquiring about pricing until after the Labor Day Sale. I don't understand why a sales associate would not make a sale. If she would have taken a few minutes to do a little research I would have bought the bed right then and there. Since they did not seem interested, I went home that night, did my own research, and bought that bed directly from the designer. If you see something you like there, find out who makes it and go directly to the source. Don't waste your time with the attitude from the sales associates. There are a lot of great furniture stores that have similar, if not better merchandise. I found some very helpful staff in other furniture stores in Little Italy and Encinitas.
I have been shopping in this shop over 6 years, last month purchased a table. The person who helped me, she seem new and did not seem to operate the cashier. Then I get call from her, saying that she forgot to charge me for shipping. I asked to speak to the manager to tell him that his staff need a little training as she clearly struggle and seem not to know the products or how look up products and operate the cashier. But the manager without even listening to my concern told me that there was no problem. I didn't pay for the delivery , so I need to come and pay before the delivery. When I told him , that I told the cashier to charged me for delivery since she lack proper training she made an error and did not charge me for deliver, he started getting frustrated and told me that he does not need my business and does not care how much business I gave them in the past. He told me to come and collect my money. Thats exactly what I did.
I am a huge fan of BDI furniture and unfortunately Hold It is one of the stores in SD where this can be purchased. We recently purchased a BDI side table - it was not in stock so we could only see pictures. When it arrived it is not what we expected at all. The store employees even commented that the piece was not great and certainly not worth $1300. When inquiring about a return we were told it was a “special order” and we could not simply return it. I am in shock that Hold It does not stand behind what they sell. After several conversations we were told we could either pay a re-stocking fee or get a store crest but not a return and refund. The sales associate we bought the piece from was extremely rude over email and was not trying to help us at all. Buyer beware - this store does not stand behind the quality of the products they sell and the sales associates and store manager are not customer service friendly and quite rude.
I have never once posted a negative review of a company or a store, but I will say that I feel so strongly that this company has misrepresented everything from the shipping estimate to the furniture we received that I felt I had to prevent others from having the same, awful, EXPENSIVE experience. It took over four months to get our furniture--with many delays, unreturned calls, shipping questions and confusion. Although the sofa was custom made and was supposed to be similar to the one in the store, it is NOT. On a scale of 1-10, the comfort of this sofa, unlike the one they show in the store, is a 1. It is such a shame, for us, and for a company that sells very beautiful furniture online and in the store. After many purchases over the past few years, this store is BY FAR THE WORST.
I have been to every single furniture store in San Diego in the past week. And Hold It is by far the BEST collection of contemporary furnishings out of any of them. If you are going to buy anything here, make sure it’s from Eddie! Furniture is his craft. And he is a master of it! He knew all the right questions to ask and help guide me through this project from start to finish. You can tell he truly loves what he does and loves helping people make their home in their own image. I felt like Eddie was just as invested into me having the perfect styled home as I was. He’s truly an incredible representation of this company.
I was recommended by friends to shop at Hold It to furnish our second home in Palm Springs for a flare of modern and clean look. I was lucky to have Elizabeth help me with the entire project. She was very thorough and direct. She would not talk you into buying something if she does not think it would work. She is talented with her decorating vision in addition to her knowledge for spacing. My husband and I are very pleased with the out come. We feel that Hold It offers nice solid wood quality furniture without the extreme price tag. Here are a few pictures of our great room (dining room and living room combined).
We have purchased a beautiful custom made couch, table with six chairs, rug, and end-table for our house. The couch has worked out excellently, the end table is great. The purchase of the new table and rug has been a pleasure. We would highly recommend anyone seeking quality luxury contemporary furniture to purchase from HoldIt. The customer service is excellent. We are always welcomed very nicely and quickly, our service needs are met, and the team goes beyond the call-of-duty to provide us superior customer service. Highly recommend!
I absolutely love this store as it is a tremendous resource for us interior designers in San Diego. There are no other showrooms in the area that match the quality of design and variety of items to be resourced locally and overseas. I especially love their access to Italian furniture lines. Their pricing and quality of products they provide is really excellent making access to designer furniture attainable for many clients. I have worked with Elizabeth T. on various projects and she is incredibly helpful and great to work with.
I had a fantastic experience with Hold It during my purchase of a dining room table and chair set. The sales person, Michael Veripapa, was extremely knowledgable and helpful. I picked up the furniture at the Hold It warehouse where they helped me load it into my van. I'm thrilled with the high quality and low price of my purchase. I would definitely shop there again! Exteremly bad customer service. Outdoor products are made with cheap material. Furniture won't last you long even if you take good care of them. Furniture is priced way to high for quality. Don't shop here wouldn't recommend it. Don't bother with trying to get a warranty replacement you won't hear back from them and blame you for the furniture not lasting you.
This is my favorite store for home furnishing and decor! Dwayne is a huge help and has a great eye, I recommend him if you need some help. Check out the DIY succulent and plant options in the back, they look real and everything you need to make great arrangements is in one place. For modern and contemporary furniture, this is where you want to go, enjoy!
Really cool, stylish looking furniture and the workmanship of the displayed items looks high grade. Prices are not what you would call bargain, but if you're looking for that, IKEA is less than a mile away. Be warned though, many complain of very long delays in delivery and/or receiving a product different than the description.
Most horrible experience. We paid 50% deposit and ordered bed in September and were promised delivery within 10 weeks. Fast forward to January, after several attempts finally contacted Eddie who told us that order was never made. Took us 3 more calls to get money refunded. Please do yourself a favor and stay away!
They said it was available in stock but when the final processing payment time they said it will take 2-4 weeks for custom order since it is not available. Also the management said it would fit in my car but looks like it won’t fit in the warehouse when I went . As. Delivery is not free it is so high 125$
My experience was that this is a very well put together furniture store, which definitely settings toward the ultra modern. It's not really my taste, but if you're drawn toward simple and expensive, this is the place for you. It's almost the same as Plummers or whatever they're called now.
I love my new 8 dining room chairs. Fairly priced and good quality. I really liked that they let me take a show-room chair home for a day so that I could see how it looked in my house before I made the decision to buy. The sales people were friendly & knowledgeable.
Always a great experience. We are on a mission to add some new pieces and Dwayne helped us today explaining new items, trends, materials and shared ideas and tips. The furniture are one of the best you can find in San Diego. Thank you, Dwayne and Hold It.
We have been buying furniture from hold it for the last 1 year and have had a great experience. All of the sales people in the store are very friendly and helpful. This is the best store in San Diego if you're looking for modern/contemporary furniture.
I have a long history of purchasing at this store. Everything was great, until a product was delivered and was not what was represented. Should of read these reviews..... Will not shop here again.
Eddie was very helpful. He demonstrated all of the features of the expanding glass table. He also gave me help hints on other items which would complement the table. Outstanding service.
Ordered a Italian leather recliner with a 4 month delivery Received a couch with 3 different shades and uneven seems After 2 more months we had to ask for our money back Not happy
Found the most comfortable and modern white Italian sectional. Thank you for your patience and advice Rachael. This store has quality furniture worth every penny. I love it
Dwayne Lutringer is super friendly, here. He listens to your needs and offers the right solutions. If you visit Dwayne will take care of you!
Contemporary furniture that you will enjoy forever! I have been their client since 2007. I highly recommend this beautiful furniture store.
This place is a good spot for modern furniture. Pretty pricy but there are some unique pieces available.
I will update this review after I try out the couch for a while. Need to go sell a kidney first.
A very pleasant and helpful Paul Helped me today. I will certainly go back to hold it
Holly Taylor was great, super helpful with space planning and design options!
Holly is amazing!! Great, high quality furnishings. Highly recommend.
Our favorite modern furniture store. Very professional delivery team
