To complete the task of moving, especially long distance interstate moving, can be time consuming, stressful and costly. We would like to share our experience with the moving company, International Van Lines, via the following review. We first searched online to find several companies based on reviews. After a few phone calls we decided to choose IVL because of the excellent communications with the Relocation Specialist, Rick Gray, who served the coordinator throughout our entire moving process. We would like to emphasize that Rick was not only responsive to ALL our questions and requests very promptly by either replying to our emails or calling back upon receiving our voice messages, but also very patient about explaining everything in detail to ensure our understanding. He was articulate and made it easy for us to understand their volume based charges per cubic foot (some companies charge differently by weight) with boxes of small/medium/large and special items in different sizes. Thanks to his upfront clear explanations, we were able to provide relatively accurate information on the numbers and sizes of all our boxes. In addition, he pulled our house on MLS listing with photos while talking to us to make accurate estimate of all pieces of furniture to be moved. This in turn, according to Rick, made it easier for him to give us a more accurate overall estimate. As a result, there was no unexpected extra charge when the pickup team came. (This is one of the complaints found in online reviews of different moving companies.) And we think the actual cost of the moving is fair compared to quotes from other companies. Rick’s job did not stop here, He coordinated the whole process very well. Everything happed, in sequence, was exactly as he described. We received an email and phone call from Lisa, the account manager and one of the team members, the day before pick up with all the details. She helped us with minor modification of the number of boxes and finalized the bill. The pickup team arrived within the window frame as specified by Lisa. During the transit, we received emails with updates from Carlina of the dispatch service. We received phone calls from the delivery team 2 days prior to the scheduled delivery. When the weather changed unexpectedly on the planned unloading day, the delivery team communicated with their main office and got back to us with the decision to postpone unloading to the next day out of concern of possible damage to the furniture in heavy rain. Again, Rick was making the calls for the rearrangement and communicated back to us very promptly. The whole process was seamless. We also would like to mention that both the pickup and delivery teams were very professional and handled all the items with care. Again, Rick’s job did not stop here, he went above and beyond. We received a call from him during the unloading process and another follow-up call the day after delivery to make sure all was taken care of timely and appropriately. My wife and I expressed our hearty thanks to Rick and his team and we shared our experience with Rick. We both agreed that it is the team work that satisfies both parties. And the key to working as a team is COMMUNICATION, COMMUNICATION, and COMMUNICATION! But we also would like to emphasize that it’s Rick’s customer-oriented attitude, patience and excellent communication skills that makes him exceptional. As he puts it: “I’m the specialist and you (my customers) are special”. We highly recommend the Relocation Specialist, Rick Gray, of International Van Lines, to anyone who is planning to move, especially long-distance interstate moving. We also would like to suggest preparing a list of commonly asked questions related to moving before making calls to moving companies.
My family's recent move from Virginia to Texas turned into an absolute nightmare when we made the mistake of hiring International Van Lines. I cannot stress enough how awful our experience was with this moving company. From start to finish, they demonstrated a level of incompetence that has left us speechless. I do not want anyone else to go through what we did. Let me just start off by saying our items were packed and on the moving truck in Virginia on July 11th. We were told the truck would arrive in Texas, latest July 19th. It did not arrive until the morning of July 30th. Their communication was practically non-existent throughout this entire experience. We had to constantly chase them for updates, and even then, we received vague and misleading responses and they’d say they “weren’t allowed to speculate when we get our things.” They seemed to be indifferent to our concerns and lacked any sense of accountability for the delays and problems they caused. The only reason we knew where our belongings were was because of AirTags we put in our suitcases. One of the most frustrating parts of this whole thing was they couldn’t provide us with a clear delivery date in Texas. We were left in the dark, unsure when our items would arrive. This caused immense stress and left us scrambling to make alternate arrangements. Not to mention, some of our items showed up broken. I cannot stress this enough: DO NOT use International Van Lines for your move. They lack the basic qualities one would expect from a reputable moving company. I genuinely hope others won't have to deal with what we went through. It's important to find a moving company that values communication, takes good care of your belongings, and treats you with respect. Moving is already stressful enough; you don't need a company like this making it even worse. Save yourself the stress by choosing a more reliable and professional moving company.
Do not use International Van Lines. I was reassured when booking my move that my items would arrive within a matter of days of my requested delivery date. Based on the conversation with the sales associate, we intentionally had our items picked up two weeks before our requested delivery date, because he indicated this would mean our items would arrive on time. The sales associate further led me to be concerned that if I did not book then, my dates may no longer be available. Having only his reassurances to go off of, I paid a nearly $2000 deposit over the phone before being able to review any official contract. While I thought International Van Lines would handle my move, they actually hired another company called American Knights to do it. When picking up my items, American Knights had a contract which stated that they would deliver my items within 21 BUSINESS DAYS. We felt pressure to sign this contract, having already paid the nearly $2000 deposit. My wife, our two dogs, and I are going to be in an empty apartment for up to five weeks now. I’ve been told multiple times in the past month that American Knights are waiting for the “next available driver,” but I simply cannot believe this is true as their customer service agent told me that it’s still “very early in the delivery window.” American Knights has repeatedly claimed that there are variables beyond their control, but they have my money and my items while I spend weeks in an empty apartment. International Van Lines and American Knights need a better analysis of their capacity and of their sales practices.

After going through inventory check room by room, I was told the estimate was under $6000. In the pickup day, someone from HeartLand Relocation services ( then I realized IVL was just functioning as a broker) told me the estimate was away off the mark. I had to make a hard decision to throw out many pieces of furniture away (not moving) . Even though the total cost was $8421. The story did not stop here. When the furniture arrived, I found many pieces of the furniture accessories were missing and some furniture got damaged. The cost was supposed to include unpacking and re-assembling of the furniture. However, the delivery company (Cargo-express) just left much of furniture unassembled due to missing parts. When I contacted IVL, they said I must contact the mover (HRS), but the latter just gave me a website for filing a complaint. It has been over 1 month; I have not heard anything yet. There is no response from HRS either. It has been very bad experience with IVL and its partners. Before having signed a contract, they acted like the best caring businesspeople in the world. Once having got customers' money, they all disappeared. My experience could serve a reminder “ don’t true some online review”. I hope this industry should be closely monitored and regulated.
This was my 6th long distance move and by far the worst. To start the company did not reserve a parking spot which is required by the city. I inquired a week prior with no response and then was told the day before it was my responsibility. The permit requires 5 days and details on moving company and truck length/size so impossible for the customer to organize. On packing/loading day the crew were very rushed and did not pack a significant amount of items. When asked they said they were on the exclusion list but we’re not. Instead of arguing I shipped them via UPS myself.I had also asked for a painting to be crated which wasn’t organized in advance and was only done once the painting arrived at the logistics hub. On arrival none of the boxes were labeled making it difficult to know where to place them and what might be missing. My driver and helper did not speak much English, I received someone else’s items, and several of my items were significantly damaged. I’m also missing items-when I inquired they shrugged and said it was not their fault. Communications once you book are poor and the sub-contractors even worse. Ignore all the list that say they are good-they are by far the worst long distance move I’ve ever had.
Prepare to have broken furniture This was a whole mess that cost me $5k+ I was given arbitrary schedules, yelled at over the phone and forced to pay extra for late fees I didn’t know about until after I had missed deadlines I didn’t know about. I won’t bore you with the whole story so The key points would be: They did not answer my calls They hire out movers on both ends for the cheapest price. They did not give me updates on arrival until day prior. They berated me for not being available less than 24hrs prior after having been told my furniture’s hasn’t even left the original state. Furniture arrived, tv broken (after paying extra for the tv packing service lol) parts of bed frame missing and bookshelves destroyed. Funny enough I'm not asking them for any compensation just because I don’t want to talk to anyone associated with this company. Be warned. Special thanks to Dianna ‘Anna’ in dispatch for insulting me over the phone for not having my schedule free Dianna’s supervisor April for ignoring me Justin Davis my relocation coordinator for never returning calls, texts or emails. Danielle Farinato in dispatch for advising me of late fees AFTER they had occurred after asking repeatedly for any updates.
Cross country move with full pack turned into massive loss and damages. Here is the “short” list…loss of three boxes containing everything my daughter owned, broken glasses by the packer while packing (he shrugged it off telling me to “just file a claim”), packing tape directly on wood, used huge wardrobe boxes tossing books and shoes haphazardly in crushing all contents, many items not wrapped or padded (audio equipment dented and knobs broken off as they banged around in a huge dish pack box), all my lamps are bent/dented with parts missing, precious handmade ceramic art broken with horrible wrap on one sheet of paper, multiple pieces of furniture broken beyond repair all ending with late delivery, zero communication, day laborers hired with ZERO experience on furniture handling and zero accountability for any damage or repair. Mid century modern furniture was dragged, the finish destroyed. The claim process is a joke. You upload a detailed list with photos to what you think is an outside source…it’s not. There is no claim process or fair arbitration. They deflect and ignore all calls. 25 grand was paid to have my items ruined and lost.
They accept credit cards for the initial deposit but only accept money orders for the remaining balance. Upon pickup, the driver charged extra fees for long carry and made up the distance. They delayed my delivery and were unreachable for days. When my furniture finally arrived over a week late, they lost my mattress. The driver wanted Venmo payments for the delivery to his personal account. What reputable company operates like this? It’s extremely hard to reach them for any help, and their drivers are very unpleasant. It’s been 10 days since my items were delivered, and I still can’t contact anyone to help find my lost mattress or for compensation. They never respond to emails or phone calls after they have your money. Stay away from IVL.
I'm very disappointed to have to leave this review, but I have tried for nearly a month to get ahold of someone to schedule and discuss an upcoming move. With such great reviews I was so excited to work with IVL. However, I have tried reaching out online for service, calling numerous times to various departments, and even leaving nice (and some slightly frustrated) voicemails. Can't ever get someone on the phone, and nobody can be bothered to even return a phone call or send an email, for going on a month now. TERRIBLE service, and I look forward to taking my business elsewhere- all future moves included.
I had the worst experience with International Van Lines. They called me on the pick-up date and said that their truck broke down. I had to give them solution to rent a Uhaul to meet the scheduled move-out date. They brought insufficient packing materials so I had to go to Home Depot to buy supplements. My wife and I had to do 100% packing even though I purchased for full packing service. A crew stole my belongings, a crew smoked weed in my garage in front of my 2.5 years old son. The worst part is, I've claimed for all this matters and IVL was not responsive and accepted the claim.
The worst people I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with :) We had to cancel our move and on their website it claimed you can cancel within 48 hours you would receive a full refund. Apparently it is actually 48 business hours. Even with that we reached out on their website to cancel within 48 business hours. They never responded to that so we called the next day and they are claiming we are not within the 48 hours any longer because the weekend is between now and my move so now I am out $2000. If you are considering booking with them run as fast as you can the other direction
They hire shady crews. When I asked for identification before they pick up 15 square feet the crew drove off. International Van Lines stated I cancelled due to extra charges to my Mastercard deposit and kept it. Crooks bottom line please do not use. FYI found out another person lost all of their belongings in a move with international vanlines and you will see in their fine print they pay only 60% of your actual value on claims. Don’t worry though you will get nothing because they will never return your call!!! CROOKS , Do Not Hire , Thieves!!
Thanks to the Team at International Van Lines for a stress-free move. The team moved us in less than 1/2 a day and did a great job assembling our furniture. We’ve used their services before and were so happy with them that we used them again without even getting quotes from other companies. Professional from beginning to the end. Thanks again International Van Lines.
Locked me in with a great offer and and then increased the cubic feet by 60% later. I personally measured the volume of the load upon arrival (including pictures of the measurement tape) and the numbers they had didn't match at all. Their 'compliance' team is useless and incompetent. Several thousand dollars gone - plain fraud.
The moving crew from International Van Lines did a fantastic job. Even though it was extremely hot, they were able to solve a problem with a walk-up on the third story. Excellent maintenance and neatness. When I was younger, I did work similar to this, thus I can speak to the fact that these guys are great to collaborate with.
I no longer need to search for ideal moving services because I've found them – International Van Lines. Compared to other providers, they stand out significantly. I have complete confidence in their capabilities. They proved to me that I can trust them with my move. I placed my full trust in them, and they didn't let me down.

I was worried about my piano, but these movers were experts at it. They used padded straps and special boards to move it carefully. I couldn't believe how smoothly they transported my piano without a single scratch. It was a pleasant surprise and a huge relief.
The movers were punctual and treated my things better than I could have imagined. My bookshelf particularly was difficult to deal with. However, the movers first packed and sealed it tight, and then lifted it down my narrow stairs as if it weighed nothing.
