Update - Owner of Kemly called to address the issue noted below and has satisfactorily addressed the issue, therefore I am upgrading the review from a 1 to a 3. I still do not think the electrician's work was good, but appreciate the owner calling to address and rectify. Original Post - I will not use Kemly for future work. I scheduled an appointment to have 3 ceiling fans I purchased from Seattle Lighting installed; Seattle Lighting referred Kemly. The electrician showed up late, said he was told he was there to install 1 fan and that something happened with his truck, he didn't have all the equipment, so I would need to reschedule. Irritating, but things happen, so I reschedule. Same electrician comes out the second time and is approximately ~20 min late. I ask that he remove his shoes prior to coming up the stairs to which he replies, that he can't climb the ladder without shoes. I ask him if he has booties to cover his shoes and he says he'll need to go get them from the van. After he returns with the booties, we go up and I show him where to install the fans making sure he knows where to install the remotes. Electrician is working and seems to be taking care of selling something personal for quite a bit of time I thought he would be installing my fan, so I make note of this thinking they'll probably try to charge for this. Electrician says he is finished, so I take a quick look and show him out. The remotes were installed on the walls with one screw, so I had to install the second screw on each so they wouldn't spin as they did after the electrician installed them. I received the bill and was charged a ridiculous amount of money for the 1st visit where the electrician came unprepared and more time than the actual install took, because (1) electrican was late & (2) spent ~30 minutes taking care of something personal. I was able to resolve the billing issue. After about a month, the weather starts heating up, so I turn one of the fans on and notice that when I turn the fan on, the light also comes on, and I have to turn the light off. Not sure if it's the fan or what, so I monitor and then call Kemly to report the problem. Same electrician comes out and says, no, I wired it correctly, it must be the receiver...electrician takes mounting brackets off so I can see the receiver, re-mounts fan, and I call Seattle Lighting with information. I go to turn on fan now and it works as it should, so I call Kemly saying that this is not the receiver, it must not have been done incorrectly the first time, since now it works after receiver unit was placed back in unit after inspection. Electrician calls me defending his work, talking something about capacitors, no control over something, so on and so forth. Bill was for well over $250 for 10 minutes of time, to fix something that seemingly wasn't done right the first time.
Update to this review: 4 months later and these folks continue to amaze me! We'd had a couple very minor miscommunications recently, so I sent an email clarifying our needs and asking if our company could change anything about our process to improve scheduling with Kemly. Rather than emailing me back, I got a lovely phone call with clarification on their side, and we finished with a much clearer picture of how best to work together moving forward. It is SO RARE in this day and age to find anybody, whether an individual or a company, that is actually open to an honest and direct conversation about how to improve a relationship rather than passive-aggressive brush-offs. ------------------------ I love this company, but let me say they have never done any work for me PERSONALLY. My work uses them for almost everything from moving outlets to complete rewires on home remodels, and I always appreciate that Kemly does their best to accommodate our unpredictable schedule. The work is always great, but what I really love is Kemly's honesty and willingness to communicate. If we have questions or find that we misunderstood each other, everyone from the business owner to the office staff to the field crew is easy to communicate with, honest, and straightforward. They absolutely do their best to be the best, and I think they're fabulous at it. In this day and age, it means everything to work with a company who holds themselves accountable and will always help you do the research and figure out whatever you need. I always look forward to scheduling Kemly; frankly it's usually the easiest part of my job!
Part of the reason I went with Kemly to replace our old breaker and garage lights was because during the quote inspection, they talked me through what the process would be like instead of just listing what needed to be fixed. As someone still learning about home repair, I greatly appreciated that they took the time to explain WHY certain things had to be addressed and how. And I'm so glad I went with them. Casey and Jonathan did a great job with organizing the wiring and replacing the lights in the garage and with replacing our old Zinsco breaker and globe meter. They kept me up-to-date on what they were doing throughout the day without my asking and let me know what the plan was for the next day when they were leaving. They kept up good humor (by evidence of their laughter and shaking of heads) in trying to map all of the breakers given that the old owners did some of their own work and didn't label the old breakers correctly. They were also very tolerant of my cat wanting to see what they were doing, which I appreciate. Highly recommend!
VERY disappointed in my experience with Kemley Electric, which was an industry referral. I was very clear about wanting to do parts of my condo remodel in phases, and that I would like the quote to reflect that. I paid to have them come out and quote the project. I do not mind paying for a service, but I expect the service to be rendered. They provided a lump-sum quote, including can lights, and wall heaters. I asked to have them quote adding electric floor heat, which was not in the quote, and I got push-back on it (most likely because that heating unit would come from the plumber and they do not sell them). It has been a month that I have been waiting on the quote, and today I was told they could not give a detailed quote. Who does business like this? I work in the new-construction industry, and have gotten many quotes from electricians that are detailed, so I know that isn't true. They came up with a lump-sum number somehow. So why are they not able to give a detailed quote? Anyway, I will not be using or recommending this firm again.
This is my same review from Yelp: Kemly Electric recently completed a knob and tube decommission and home rewire (including new outlets, lights, car charger, fixtures, and fans). We are very grateful that we ultimately went with them to perform this work and are really happy with the outcome. Specifically, the work was completed by Tim (estimator) and Paul and Peik (active electricians). The work performed was very clean, detailed, and professional. Cut holes were minimal, dust was nearly non-existent at the end of the day, and communication was easy and clear. We were prepared to have a home that was a dusty mess and resembled a piece of Swiss cheese at the end of all this but that is really not the case. They were even able to avoid damage to the half-wall wood paneling in our basement. I’m glad this is done, but if we had to do it again we would absolutely go with Kemly.
We hired Kemly Electric to install a new panel, new exterior electrical work, and new heating on our 3rd floor. We had a great experience with all the projects. Everyone was kind, upbeat, and very thorough at explaining things throughout the process. They worked quickly and made a very complicated process look easy. They organized our inspections and we passed with flying colors. The work they did made our house look so much better when the old wires and equipment were removed. The heating company got the wrong thermostats and Sal from at Kemly took over the project to ensure the rest of the process was seamless. Can’t say enough good things about Sal, who worked with us on several parts of our project. Their prices were very fair/competitive and their work was great. Everyone had good energy and significant experience to get the job done properly and up to code.
I was having a problem with my lights in the house. When the refrigerator or furnace, or something that draws a lot of electricity would turn on my lights would dim and or flicker. I called Kemly Electric for help and they came out this morning. The Kemly employee (Jonathan ) said that the problem was not in the house or the panel but in the drop line to the house. Kemly employee advised to call City Light. City Light was here before I could hang up the phone. They found the drop line to the house was rubbing against another cable lines and had frayed wires inside the drop line. They noticed my neighbors cable was starting doing the same thing and they fixed his cables also. I can’t thank the Kemly Electric company enough and for Jonathan knowledge to diagnose this problem. Again Thank you!
COVID-Safe workers! This company was responsive and had good customer service. The person who came out to build the estimate met with my partner, and when I had questions, the folks in the office got the right answers for me. Gabe and Marquise did the work on the house. They were delightful humans and very careful about the work. They were very thoughtful about communicating what would need to be done, where, and when. For example, when they understood I was worried about dust, they offered to put up plastic sheeting to keep anything from getting inside the rest of the house, and the work area was clean when they were done. It's not often you get great work AND folks who are a pleasure to speak with, and these folks were great. I'd recommend them wholeheartedly.
James Chartrand of Kemly Electric was just at my house to diagnose and fix a short in my stove circuit. First, James came the next day after I called. Before I found James, I had called 8 electricians and had been offered appointments from 5 days to 2 and a half weeks in the future; so I was very appreciative of his timeliness. He quickly diagnosed the problem and fixed it. He made sure I understood what was wrong and what needed to be done. He was most professional , friendly and courteous. He was one of those people you want to get his card and keep it so you have a go-to person to call if you find yourself in need of an electrician. Steve Smutka
Seriously, as good as it gets. We had our 100 year old house rewired completely. Provided prompt and accurate bid. Had better grasp of the breadth of our project than all the other companies that came to look at our project. Was on time, very flexible when I altered plans. Fixed problems I didn't know I had. Went way above and beyond to make sure my bathroom fan was properly ducted. Electricians were patient and accommodating to our family (2 small kids under foot). Minimally invasive. Creative. Cleaned up work spaces everyday. Inventive fixes for surprise problems. Fair, very fair price. I recommend to anyone who will listen. SO happy. :)
Just wanted to thank Kemly Electric Inc. for a job well done !!! They did a complete rewire of our house from new service mast and panel to all circuits in house for power and lighting. There project manager ( Bill Stanton ) and onsite electrician ( Dereck ) both have GREAT customer service skills and technical knowledge that made our remodel job stay on time and budget ...... THANKS AGAIN !!!!! P.S. -- There office receptionist and scheduling department were also very FRIENDLY and HELPFUL throughout the project. Thanks Again : Joel & Roger Nelson 365 NW 47th, Street..... When I reached out for estimates on a car charger installation, Kemly Electric got back to me within hours, whereas other electricians took days or even weeks (some still haven't responded). Sal was not only very responsive, but he did a great job of walking me through the various options to install the charger and the associated tradeoffs. On the day of the installation, Sal arrived right on time and did excellent work. I would wholeheartedly recommend Kemly Electric to anyone who needs a charger installed, and I would certainly work with them again for any future electrical needs.
I had another electrician come out to trace a short in my living room that knocked out all of the outlets and lighting. They were able to restore some of my power and said they would need to do more extensive work to trace the issue. That company blew me off and never returned to complete the job or return my calls. The electrician from Kemly was able to diagnose the issue and restore all my outlets and lighting withing the hour service call. Thanks again for making such a long-term issue so short and painless.
Thanks to Sal, Derek, and Cody for the great work installing 7 infrared heat panels in our daylight basement! The panels are working great and have made a huge/immediate difference in what was a very cold space. We especially appreciate how great the team was with communication throughout the project - they were friendly, professional, and always verifying project details. If you have a project, call them now as they are busy and it took about 6 weeks to secure some time for them to come out!
Had a good experience with the company overall. Adam Kemly was involved in the project from start to end. He made sure he answered all my questions and provided the information/documents i needed. Lary and Seth were on time on the day of service. The installation was complicated due to distance from the panel to garage. They completed everything in 2.5 hours and made sure they vacuumed the area before they left. The installation was neat. Lucy assisted with service and inspection scheduling.
Kemly did extensive electrical work for us recently, requiring three separate visits. Paul, the electrician who did the work, was simply outstanding. He worked non-stop, he was a great communicator, and his work was of the highest quality. The staff at Kemly with whom I spoke were consistently polite and thoughtful. And the cost for all the work they did was very reasonable. Kemly is who I will choose from now on for any electrical work that I need. I couldn't recommend them more highly.
Was having trouble figuring out how I can fix an issue with my heating system. Was getting a lot of "Can't help you" responses from other companies while calling around. Spoke with Stacie who was kind enough to take the time to get more information from me via email, do some research, and then provide a path forward to fixing my issue! How helpful and responsive they were (even though I wasn't purchasing a specific service) really says a lot about them.
Our company, Metis Construction has worked with Kemly Electric for many years; and will continue to work with these great professionals for many years to come. Their estimates are always very accurate, electricians punctual, professional and clean and their work immaculate. As a general contractor, we stake our reputation on those that we work with; and Kemly always exceeds our expectations.
Had the main breaker in our house partially fail, (would only output 120V on one of the bus bars). James came out and not only replaced our busted main breaker on a Sunday, but also took time to map out where some of the circuits the breakers were serving and provide us directions of where they serve. Fair price and great frequent communication. I recommend.
Kemly did super work. They carefully assessed the state of our current wiring. They did a great job keeping us informed and running any impactful decisions by us. They took extra care to maintain our old vintage light fixtures, and minimize any holes needed to access wiring. They were professional, timely, and trustworthy. Great team for electric work!
Have had a positive experience with Kemly Electric. Isaiah and Jordan were the technicians who helped install the lighting and electric smart tint for my new business. Even though we've run into some obstacles with the products they've been very patient and helpful and great at thinking outside the box for solutions. Would highly recommend!
We've been using Kemly as our go-to Electricians for over 7 years now. Mostly a lot of replacing existing light fixtures with new ones. Professional, knowledgeable and like they say ' you get what you pay for' with Kemly that is the case! The reception and schedule folks are always super helpful and nice!
I am very happy with Kemly Electric I have had my ceiling fans installed and then replaced by James. He installed the fans and took away my old fixtures and all the packing. And he even replaced the battery in my smoke alarm that is too high for me to reach . I highly recommend Kemly Electric!
Thanks Kemly and Jonathan for their work on my condo. I had some wonky wiring and strange fixtures and he was able to get everything working safely and perform upgrades and explained the process to me. Although I had a small job, the Kemly team worked to get me on the schedule. Thanks!
Really appreciate Kemly's team of Timmy, Eric, Shaun and Connor with upgrading our existing electric panel to solar ready. Adam, the company owner, was personally involved from initial visit to finish. Kemly was price competitive and did an excellent job. We highly recommend them.
Called for an estimator, was told they'd get someone out the following week. Emailed, left a message and called again. Receptionist said, sorry, we're busy, can't do it until next month. Respect your word and the time of others, follow up and say it, we all have things to do.
Incredible service. Late in the day emergency call - no heat, half the power out, in the middle of winter. Mike was on his way home but drove back to fix the system. Had to call another company to get the part. Nothing short of amazing!
Second time I’ve hired Kemly and both experiences were great. This time, Mike was prompt, professional, personable and fast. I highly recommend them based on both jobs, one complex and the other more straightforward.
Amazing service, and brilliant staff. Flooding caused an outing and Stacie and Michelle moved heaven and earth to get an electrician out the same day. What a great experience with such a helpful group of people.
Beware: these guys charge a $79 "evaluation fee" just for the right for them to come out and give you an estimate. I'll take guys that want my work, not someone that acts like they're doing me a favor...
Good experience with Kemly, they were efficient and provided me with tips about rewiring outlets, etc. The electrician was pleasant to work with and very knowledgeable. I'd use them again in a heartbeat.
The service was extremely professional. They went above and beyond by helping me troubleshoot and fix an issue with my light fixture and saved me a trip to the lighting store. I highly recommended Kemly.
Kemly replaced a Zinco panel with an UL approved panel when we purchased our unit in 2012 In 2018 they did the electrical work on our kitchen remodel both times the work was excellent
How rude this people are... Thes just cut the call because we trying to see if they have a soon appoiiment!!.. We are going to pay for the service oviusly!!!!
Appreciated the electrician who came out to our place. He was honest and helpful and explained the process to me. He successfully rewired one of our bedrooms!
They charge you $225.00 plus tax to reset a flipped breaker if it is a service call even when the job site is less than 10 min from their location.
Great professional work. My technician took the extra time and identified my hot wires during my thermostat replacement. It is much appreciated.
Did a great job. Came in a timely manner and went above and beyond expectations to help us solve a challenging problem. James was terrific.
I will definitely be using them again! Reasonable pricing and great customer service! Thanks kemly electric
