Atrocious hospital. You wouldn't want your worst enemy to end up in this hell-hole. I've visited this hospital twice as a patient and for my own mortality I'm hoping never again. After my first lovely experience and also the experiences of other family and friends at this 'hospital' I decided to not go to another hospital unless I felt like I was dying. About 4 weeks ago I came down with some mystery disease. After seeing my GP and a locum, it started to progressively get worse and nothing was helping. Rather than go to the Lyell, I decided to go to the Gawler Hospital, where my concerns were heard, and I had a doctor see me within 30 minutes. Within 4 hours I was on a ward and had the most amazing doctors and nurses who ran every test imaginable to determine what illness was causing me to feel like a walking corpse. After many blood tests, scans and discussions with other doctors, the doctors at Gawler contacted the Lyell who gave a list of diseases to test for which all came back negative. Gawler staff informed me that they would have to transfer me to a different hospital where specialists were present. I prayed to whatever god there might be that I didn't have to go to the Lyell and would even go down to Flinders, but all beds were full. Even including the Lyell. Gawler doctors contacted a ER doctor at the Lyell who said that the Lyell had a 'duty of care' to take me in as it was my zoned hospital. After 2 days of excruciating pain where my WBC count was almost nil and my liver enzymes were through the roof, and being unable to eat anything, Gawler had doing everything they could, from pain medication, further tests and contacting the Lyell AGAIN for further direction, they had no choice but to send me to the Lyell (trust me, I wanted to jump out of the ambulance to not go there). I was placed in the ER and eventually shifted to the one place in the Lyell that makes the rest of it look like a 5 star resort. The Overflow ward, this is what I imagine the evilest of people see when they die. Over worked and tired staff, 16 patients (male and female) sharing a single bathroom with urine on the floor and toilet (and the occasional bloody pad). The only thing separating patients is medical curtains that are 2 years past when they were meant to be changed. I even had the luxury of having a needle left on my tray by a nurse, the former resident's medical information on my board (during my stay my name or fasting details were never placed on my board) and was able to see the glorious sight of an elderly man's backside. I went from having antibiotics and fentanyl to Panadol and Gaviscon, and was not permitted pain killers as 'I hadn't seen the doctor yet' and was not given dinner on my first night (despite the fact that my appetite had started to come back and eating was encouraged) and was given my dinner and lunch almost an hour later than everyone else because of the lack of information on the boards. I also had to ASK for my breakfast at the nurses station after 30 minutes, then another 15 minutes later I was able to eat cold hard toast, yum! I had also witnessed an elderly man have a fall in the ward due to lack of care from staff. He wanted to use the bathroom but nurses had refused to support him there, as they did to another man who had not had a shower in over a week. Nurses refused to even let him give himself a sponge bath. One poor woman had been in the 'ward' for over a month!! Majority of the nurses are caring, it's not their fault that their bosses don't care and they cannot help being overworked. Eventually I had seen a 'doctor' who couldn't diagnose me and also refused to check my spinal fluid as my GP recommended to find out what was going on. I was sent home with antacids, Panadol, a self-organised visit to the optometrist (because the doctor couldn't see my eyes properly) and now a crippling anxiety of being seriously sick and dying. If you visit this hospital, I pray that you never have to visit the Overflow ward. I have more to say about this experience, but I can't fit it all in here....

I have just heard of the most despicable treatment of a patient I have ever heard of, this is the lowest of low: My friends' mother was due to have hip surgery this morning. She had surgery a few years ago that went wrong and has been waiting for a repair since then, she has been in pain and unable to walk properly. Her life has been miserable, and she has been suicidal. She was supposed to have surgery 11 months ago to fix the initial surgery, but it was canceled. This morning she went to the hospital for her surgery (finally) at 7am, she was finally at the front of the line again. She waited in the waiting room as patient after patient went in for their surgeries. When the room was almost empty, a nurse turned up with a 'security guard'! They told her there were no bed for her so her surgery was canceled! She now has to wait months to see the doctor and get back on the waiting list, after being at the front of the line 2 times. As if this were not horrible enough, the fact that she was treated like a criminal for the crime of there not being a bed for her is disgusting!!!!!! Where was the psychologist that she actually needed....all they did was bring the 'bouncer' to kick her out of the hospital! OMG....this is so unbelievable... I so want to go to the news with this. Everyone deserves to know that this can happen, and we need to fix this system and sack the people running this hospital, and get some professionals in. Something similar happened (but not nearly as bad) to my sister and I about 8 years ago at their emergency department. Where my sister had clearly broken her arm (it was hanging in a strange angle) and they would not give her a pillow or newspaper so we could support it while we were in the waiting room. We were there for several hours, and eventually, I could not support her arm any longer. I asked for either a pillow or newspaper, and they called a security guard!!!!!!! Yes, it was exactly like being in the 'twilight zone'...like they expected trouble from us, and made their assumptions before we were even given a chance. We left and got a taxi to the Royal Adelaide Hospital where my sister had great support and was admitted with a serious break and had surgery the next day. Everything ended up fine...but, the way we were treated at the Lyell McEwin has never left me, I would not go to that hospital under any circumstances. I have private cover, but in an emergency you never know what might happen, but I am pretty sure that it is not a place where your life matters to anyone there....that is not the impression they leave you with. This hospital knows nothing at all about mental health....my friend's mother (who is in her late 70's) needed and still now needs emotional and psychological support over what happened to her this morning, and my sister was lucky enough to have me...I was her support. This hospital treats everyone like they are the enemy.....it is an insane way to run a hospital. You hear often of their staff being upset, crying etc a lot....I would think that if they were a bit kinder and more thoughtful of patients, then maybe less of them would be upset, but once a patient understands the staff there to be the enemy....well, bad things seem to happen at that hospital....It seems they create a lot of the problem by expecting it from everyone!

I was transferred to this hospital from Port Pirie because my health issues were very difficult to get treated at Port Pirie hospital. When I was first taken to this Lyell McEwinhospital, I was having excessive pain on my stomach, headache, legs shaking etc, I didn’t know where I was stayed but I was in very painful condition and little bit unconscious too; first the two ladies who were looking for me were horrible: one with the blue eyes was very rude and seemed very unprofessional she asked me in a rude manner you are feeling far better than when you entered how you categorize yourself out of 10 regarding my pain. The next lady she is very careless, very very unprofessional and rude. She really felt bored doing all the stuffs though it’s her responsibility to do her job and she had kept the tape on the area where the blood sample used to be taken not in the way other nurses used to do later on one lady shift coordinator came and I told her and she fixed it for me. Luckily Maria Greens who were wearing a scalf and Darren did a great support to me. When I saw her doing everything possible from their side to make me feel comfortable, I remembered my parents and their care to me. She was looking after me like my parent because Adelaide was a completely new place for us and we didn’t have any relatives or friends who can look after me on the behalf of my husband . I were very frustrated giving explanations to everyone who came there to see me asking what happened to me though there was a paper on the table where my name, dob, kin and what happened to me were mentioned clearly. Both of them Darren and Maria Greens were very very professional, enthusiastic, caring, dedicated and honest nurses who helped me a lot so that I felt relieved and my pain will be gone somehow. Both Maria and young nurse Jordan moved me to level 2 ward 2D. I could not even say thanks to Darren. He was not there at the time when I was moving. Nurse Jordan seemed very professional, enthusiastic, energetic and loyal and friendly nurse though he seemed very young. Then after doctor shivy, all the nurses I didn’t know the names of all nurses but Deepal,Tash, Andrea, Deb are very very professional, energetic, kind, caring and dedicated persons . Another Maria who has worked for more than 40 years at hospital who was looking after me was also a very kind, helpful, energetic and dedicated person. Thankful to everyone for your great service to me. Please kindly arrange 1-2 staffs more because I feel like it would have been better if 1-2 more nurses will be employed so that the nurses do not have to be on rush and can look after the patient very carefully. I highly recommend this hospital to do the treatment for the patients who want to do their treatment in a very good environment with proper care and with the very professional doctors and nurses. Thankful to the kitchen teams for providing food to my husband for free and the food we want to have by asking us what we want to eat and giving us the options to select❤️ Really appreciated your kind support❤️

Last Monday 9/05/16 at midday I experienced extreme pain in my right kidney, pain was excruciating and as I was home alone I contacted my neighbour. We rang the doctor and had an appointment available at 3.20 so I struggled in agony until then and my neighbour took me to the doctors. Doctor wrote a letter to Lyell McEwin Hospital and told me to get there quickly. I suggested I go home which was only 10 minutes away and then call an ambulance but my doctor insisted that we do not wait for an ambulance but get my neighbour to take me straight to Lyell McEwin. With letter in hand my neighbour took me to the emergency section where I queued up at the Triage window and then when it was my turn handed over the letter....alll this being done while I am doubled up in agony...kidney stone pain is right up there with childbirth. From there I had to go to the next window and give my details to the receptionist and again I queued. Then it was my turn at the reception window and gave my details and was asked to take a seat. I could not actually take a seat, I was in too much pain, I leaned over the chairs, crouched and moved around to try to ease my pain. I waited in that waiting room for SEVEN hours...I arrived there just before 4pm and my name was called just before 11pm......during this time I had no pain relief, had vomited 30 times, though by now it was dry reaching, and each time I vomited I wet myself due to the nature of my illness. When my name was finally called I was taken to a cubicle and asked to get on the bed. I was on all fours on that bed in absolute agony. The nurse gave me a few tablets to ease the pain. It was 1am by the time I was admitted to a ward and put on a drip and given an injection for pain relief....Surely the Triage nurse could have offered some form of pain relief, knowing the contents of the doctors letter.....surely they have some initiative to ask other patients if someone can jump the queue due to the nature of the situation. Surely the queue situation should not be like a supermarket queue , surely the queue should be rated by the severity of the patient's medical needs..I am 70 and have a few health issues and this was just unbearable. Surely if I was an animal something would have been done to ease my pain. The doctor thought his advice to go straight to the hospital via my neighbour''s vehicle was the best method, but I should have called an ambulance, at least they would have given me some pain relief and some compassion. If I am ever in a situation like this again I will not be going by car. I think the duty of care of the triage nurses needs to be reviewed so that patients are not suffering...the reason we go to hospitals in the first place. Once I got to the ward the nurses were brilliant and could not do enough for me, but this duty of care was just much too late.

Wait time with appointments can be bad at times but that cause its a hospital not a GP. And wait times in emergency is horrid, but that's partly cause of all the people that go there when it's not really a emergency and they could of gone to the GP. I had so many ultrasounds and check ups here when I was pregnant with my twins, and when they found my girls weren't growing right I was booking in for a emergency c section within 5 days of my ultrasound that found the issue. While waiting I had to stay here, the stuff were very friendly. The nurses and doctors very informative letting me know exactly what was going to happen and why it needed to happen and so forth. The food was nice and actually looked like food but not large enough servings (but that may of been because I was eating for 3 at the time lol). During my c section 1 of my twins came out not breathing and the doctors and nurses got to work strate away saving my daughter then taking her to the SCU. With all that was happening they calmed me down by bringing me my other daughter so I could snuggle into her as best as I could with not being able to move. Because of the size of my girls they were both in the SCU for 2 weeks, thanks to the fabulous care from the nurses and doctors my beautiful twin girls were able to come home and get daily home visits from a nurse to make sure they stayed healthy for like 3 months after returning home, decreasing the amount of visits as the girls got healthier and bigger. And when my dad went into emergency he was waiting there for hours in the emergency room passing out, I had to pick him up from the GP to take him to the emergency so really should of been pushed ahead of those ones that clearly could go to a GP. He had been bitten by something at work could of been anything, hell he still doesn't know what got him. The marks to me looked like a major spider bite, when a nurse finally came over to do the official temp and such for check in they rushed him through. He was in hospital for a month and out of work for 3 months. On the strongest antibiotics they could give him because when they done the blood test he didn't have any venon or poisons in is system just a major infection.

Sadly the worst experience of any hospital stay I have ever had. As a preface, I have stayed in many public and private hospitals. My stay at Lyell Mac was for 4 days too long, with a investigation operation on the first day. So where can I start? On the morning of day 2, I was given 2 bottles of water. That's it; for 4 days. I managed to get some nurses to refill them, but had to say "Fill them up to the top" otherwise it was only half way. Asked the catering staff why I wasn't getting cups of coffee "We've run out of lids for the cups". So, and...? Wasn't offered bottled water or anything else in its place. There was confusion over my diet; hence stayed on clear fluids a day longer than the doctor wrote up. I was in 2B room 28 next to the nurses & doctors station. It is noisier than grand central station. Getting to see "my" doctor is like looking for doctor who. Expecting medications, including on time, is not to be expected. Nurses decide what treatment you WILL get, despite what Doctors order. I was due to 2 additional bags of blood, but the nurse said we don't transfuse at night. Despite having had 2, two nights before. I was a Private patient, yet was moved to a 4 bed ward on the last day that shared the toilet and shower with another 4 bed ward. A total of 8 beds mixed male & female! Bathroom features typical from a 1920 vintage hospital! That was the last straw. I signed myself out as there was no real treatment plan, just "we'd like to keep you in for another 2 days (the weekend)". Which meant nothing would happen over the weekend and maybe monday if lucky. I've now gone private and couldn't believe how fast the private sector moves. Appointment with specialist in days, Oncologist as fast. Into a private hospital even faster. All with a plan in place. I've edited this review, but saddest issue is no one at Lyell Mac cares. No hospital replies to any of the reviews I've seen on Google. Why this hospital remains open is any ones guess

I had really bed experience during Friday night I am giving 2 star to those who look after my daughter during the day from 7Am to 1pm. Actually what had happened my daughter she is only one and half years old she had fever and blocked nose on Thursday we took her to the GP on Friday morning GP given her antibiotics for virus but it didn’t work and Friday night around 11 pm she started having shortness of breath straight away we went to the hospital emergency department we enter there around 11:30 and did all entry paperwork and they ask us to wait in waiting area in the children ward we waited there until 01:30am my daughter was crying and nobody even check on her there was a male nurse sitting in the nursing station watching phone I asked her if anyone coming to check my daughter he said just wait there we will come . Nobody came again my husband went outside the reception area and said to them one of the lady came with blue hair she said them and the male nurse said to her they just came here only 10 minutes ago I got angry on him and I said to him “Do you have cameras there so they can check “that lady check in the computer and said yes they are here already more the 2 hours ago then that male nurse please sit I am coming to check on her I said to them at least just check on her what’s going on with her that made me annoyed he checked the obs around 0200am my daughter had high temperature and he left she was crying with pain again they didn’t even gave her Panadol the. Again around 0400 am I asked them can someone gave her Panadol she is crying then they gave her . That’s stupid male nurse who said to me he gonna arrange to Panadol but still didn’t very careless staff just hope god we won’t go again but after 700am the nurses were so good.

Last Monday, 5/4/21 my mother was admitted to the Modbury hospital with a severe stomach pain. She was attended to the ER immediately and later on transferred to Lyell Mc because she had a gallbladder inflammation and the surgery was to be carried out at the Lyell Mc. I was with her most of the time and I saw the care she got from the most amazing staff that works at this hospital. I couldn't falter any staff at this fantastic hospital. From the time you met the front desk staff to the doctors, nurses, cleaning staff, the team ward managers etc, etc, they work tirelessly. I think if I could give more staff I would. The food was lovely and there was nothing short of anything. I had a cup of tea everyday, while waiting aside of my mother and although the tea is for patience only no one said that I was not allowed to. I want to give special thanks to the nurses I've met. Young EN Montana, she is a little pocket rocket, wonderful RN Sue and the lovely RN Nicole or Les I am sorry I cannot remember her name, and all the other staff attended my mother were brilliant. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. This was the second surgery my mother had here and both times she was looked after so well. I only have one little concern. Its the night staff or rather lack of night staff. As the patients were left a longer time un attended after ringing the bell several times. My mother was in Ward 2B. I hope you could improve on the night shift staff. Thank you so very much for giving my mother and all the other ladies in this ward such a wonderful experience at their most vulnerable times. You guys are truly nightingales.

I don’t usually write reviews but my experience here was just terrible. I went to the ER because i had a huge laceration on the back of my arm that urgently needed stitches. When we arrived we were confused as to what was going on, we were told to sit outside in the freezing cold and wait for… something. Triage nurse didnt assess my wounds, which ended up being MUCH worse than we thought. We ended up getting a RAT which the nurse didn’t even wait the full 15 to see if it was negative. Same nurse told me there was a good chance I could be fast tracked because of basic nature of my injury. she lied lol. We were in the ER waiting room from 10:15pm to 8:30am. The room was freezing cold and the charging station hardly worked and there were no cups for the water fountain. The few nurses gave us little to make us comfortable and did not give me an estimated time. When I was finally seen, I was just left by the doctor on the bed after he aggressively cleaned my wound to the point i was shaking and crying. He had terrible communication. I was given contradictory information and I was so scared and I had no idea what was going on. I was given unnecessary x-rats by a student nurse who just had me standing around with an open gaping wound. They didn’t even offer me any food or anything after my 14 hour plus visit. I understand there is a crisis in hospitals with lack of staff and etc. but this was ridiculous. I’m never going back to this hospital ever again

Last night I witnessed the most disgusting treatment of patients alone without family. One particular nurse is I understand overworked. However the care has left her. Alcoholics have a disease. They are humans. They deserve care and respect. One was left to lay in his wet bed until she was ready and we heard “ you pissed it mate not me”. The second she complained he was a waste of valuable time and no way should he be sedated. A junior nurse got the doctor to arrange and he then was belittled by her for not knowing how to prep IV. We were still awaiting pain meds and X-rays but sat quietly. We had been on ramp 3 hours. Next am elderly woman was wheeled in and we heard from nurse great another bloody one. When told she had taken a number of days meds. She replied great another one who waste time. Another nurse snapped back she has Alzheimer’s. We need painkillers by this stage so I approached her on behalf of hubby. I got snapped at “ does it look like we are not busy!!” I replied I have heard everything you have said. The doctor popped back in ten minute later and we said then we have asked and apparently too busy. She got them for hubby and he went off to xray. When imaging back nurse and doctor in room. We could be discharged. Doctor asked nurse to remove iv. She went off to get stuff to do. 1 hour later the doctor came back to query why still here. She removed IV. Nurse was outside room bitching still about the alcoholics.

As a SALHN nurse of 13years I was deeply disappointed and concerned with some of the procedures, I witnessed at this facility in only a three day span. I would not recommend this hospital. Staff practices are below par (hygiene and infection control practices severely lacking) staff not wearing gloves when handling bodily fluids and then moving between patients with no hand hygiene in between. Bathrooms with dirty linen and plug holes clogged with the mind boggles. Dirty urine bottles and hat pans left in shared patient bathrooms. Putting a 70year old, post operative (radical nephrectomy *kidney removed*) patient with leukaemia onto a covid ward is an absolute disgrace and should not happen. That happened to my mother! I showered her and changed her bed linen. I am not confident these things would have been done had I not been there to help her. Unfortunately during her stay there, as a patient in a four bed bay- she witnessed unacceptable treatment of other patients around her, which concerned her and upset her. Elderly lady with a urine tract infection being yelled at for wetting the bed, rude and inappropriate comments from nurses to patients and general lack of communication between the nursing staff and their patients. It really disappoints me to have to leave this review, but procedures and care at this facility need to improve, drastically.

Originally written at 5am and now past 4pm - still sitting in my own bloody underwear. They have me laying here bleeding into my underwear a few hours after surgery and instead of nurse assessing the area, and / or offering to redress it... She gives me a sanitary pad and tells me to "just put that in your underwear for now and they will change it properly in morning" ... Another 3-4 hours away. I've already had staff yesterday not monitor my sugar levels properly (diabetic type 1) before my surgery, which in turn made my sugar drop before surgery not once, but twice and delayed my procedure by 5 hours because of them not originally following protocol. The nurses then treated me badly and I overheard them bickering about me as a patient just a few meters away from me. My surgeons also put a huge unnecessary bandage (giant bandaid) across my stomach for no reason. I'm extremely hairy and they did not even trim me first, so I have ripped out clumps of hair and now have a sore stomach. My surgery was nowhere near my stomach. Nurses in aftercare left very confused on why they did this. I've had some lovely nurses and doctors, don't get me wrong. But this experience has been extremely unprofessional and uncomfortable to say the least. I hope this reaches someone that can make up for this experience before I decide to talk to a lawyer about my care here.

**see update below** Truly wish I could give 0 stars. This is my 1st pregnancy & I’ve been zoned to this hospital. Horrible experience with doctors not documenting important information relating to my elective C section & refusing to change my EDD to the accurate date. Im now booked in for a c section after my due date! I’m trying so hard to get transferred to WCH instead - I wish I had done this earlier! I have no faith in the doctors I’ve seen there. They do not care at all about my mental or physical health and the toll this pregnancy has had on me, or the stress I’m under that’s affecting my baby. Update: I ended up putting in a formal complaint and saw a senior doctor in the family clinic who updated my due date with no fuss and all he did was verify it with my cycle and my 12 week scan (that could’ve been done ages ago) but he was truly helpful and lovely. They brought my C section forward! I actually ended up going into labour the day after that apt and honestly, all of the staff I encountered whilst in the Women’s Assessment Unit, theatre and Women’s health unit were incredible. So helpful, supportive and knowledgeable. After my horrible experience, this was incredibly meaningful to me as it helped reduce my anxiety and really made me feel at ease. Thank you to all the staff that made the actual birth of my baby a wonderful experience ❤️

First visit a sensation of customer care and devoted service!! This was my first experience with this hospital! Over many years it has attracted a variety of reviews - WELL now you are going too have the opportunity to read mine. Customer service fantastic - hard working, clearly under-resourced and under enormous pressure! I actually witnessed staff running in the Gastronomical area - I had a procedure which I had never undergone before - all staff doctors, nurses, helpers and team leaders were brilliant - I felt so confident in their capable, skillfill hands. Up in the wards - the same dedication was evident - kindness, skills and customer service clearly evident! Could not do enough for my fellow patients and myself! Doctors, nurses and helpers all good, no, top class! Then we come to the first place we go to on arrival, the Emergency Department! How we admire them - we sat back and witnessed their customer service and care skills with great admiration! They are also well understaffed - we saw them handle a really difficult situation! They treated us like gold, while under the pump, through a clear lack of resources - I can only speak as I found - its a four star hospital - would have been a five star if the had correct levels of staffing and workplace training - thanks Lyell Mac staff!!

Front entrance near emergency has had construction happening for so long, hope it’s gets completed sometime soon. Makes parking difficult. The multi-storey park available is good but entrance to hospital is confusing and the layout and map is really no help. Signs need to be better to avoid getting lost to get to destination for appointments. Emergency wasn’t good but neither bad, they were assisting to make the wait more comfortable, was then moved and admitted into a room within 5 hours. Then transferred rooms 3 times with 2 days was quite annoying. Nurses & Staff are mostly lovely and helpful exception of a few who clearing have no bedside manner. Doctors always send the young ones first then oversea the treatment, which care plan changes often so was hard to get some straight answers. Hospital Food has not improved. COVID restrictions put in place for visitors - main entrance to checkin with time, vaccination check, replace with new mask before entry. Another sign in a the nurses station before entry to patient room to visit. Patient visits limited to one person per patient per day for maximum 2 hours.

Hospital policy dictates that I must go through my GP in order to see my stillborn sons autopsy report, OR I have to make an FOI request. The staff were absolutely wonderful and sweet, competent etc. But who decided that I cannot have access to my own child's autopsy report FIRST? I have had to call the Coroner, SA Forensics, the Hospital, my GP etc and none can help. They've all tried their very best and I'm very grateful, but POLICY POLICY POLICY is the issue here. This system is obviously designed to lock important personal information behind a gate of " godless doctors" who I might add, willingly gave the corona deathshot to every man and his dog without conscience or responsibility. You all know it's true. Again, the staff I have interacted with have been generally wonderful, they bent over backwards to help. But they're sadly locked behind a corrupt public health system. I WILL get that report one way or another. His grieving, traumatized mother deserves to see it first, and not have go through gatekeeper doctors. Is there something in the report that you're afraid of?

Overall great experience in emergency. Attended to by nurses, cast fitted and discharged within 1.5 hours which was awesome. My only criticism is the confusion we experienced when we first arrived - there’s two different counters - customer service, and then reception. There’s a black line on the ground instructing you to wait behind the line to be called, but you have no idea which counter you’re meant to go to. Then the lady behind the counter completely avoids eye contact with you and doesn’t call you to the counter and you start to wonder if she doesn’t like the look of you and doesn’t want to serve you... a random nurse then appears from nowhere to talk to you, which was nice and only then would the reception lady call us over. It was so confusing. How about have a sign to say to wait for the nurse to come out and speak to you first so you’re not left completely in the dark about what you’re supposed to do. All good and well for those who visit emergency all the time, but for us who avoid hospitals like the plague, it sure was a misguided adventure!

Went to emergency on a Thursday night with a reasonably urgent matter. Arrived at 9pm and waited until 8:30am the next morning nearly 12hours later and still had not seen a doctor! Bar one younger nurse nobody seemed to give a damm about the welfare of me and my partner. We were stuck in a corner and continuously forgotten about for hours on end. Ended up giving up and leaving to attempt to resolve the matter with the local GP. However upon initial review by the GP he confirmed the matter had worsened significantly and urged me and my partner to return to emergency but this time with his referal of urgency. To the credit of the staff on day shift there was a complete contrast on the level of care and attention shown to my partner and I. Followed by a higher level of urgency due to the referal by the GP. Luckily I was able to receive treatment before the condition worsened but had I not left to obtain a referal to tell the nursing staff on night shift what I had been saying all along the outcome could have been much more dier and difficult to treat.

I wasn't going to do a google review, but I feel I need too. I've been dealt some miserable cards repeatedly from lyell mc inregards to my children, but today's has to be at the top for me. I've taken my 5 year old in with a severe headache that has been on going for four days now, they hooked him up to see his heart right was high and their response was "oh its a new environment" his oxygen kept dropping and it was ignored, it started screaming his stats dropped to 80 screen was flashing red, he was gasping for air the nurses stood at the curtain and said "oh the machines dodgy" didn't even flinch to go to his aid, once he come around ON HIS OWN he told the nurses it hurts to breath. Once it settled back to 99 they walked out without a word. Doctor come in, it dropped back to 85 machines yellow and screaming again he unplugs it "oh we will shut that up" his heart rate still 2 hours later HIGH, they discharged us with the diagnosis of "lack of sleep causing headache" I've never been disgusted in the luck of care and sympathy like I am this trip.

Absolutely disgusting. Claims to have 1 doctor who’s on break while 11 patients on list are waiting to be seen. “We have to check blood pressure every hour”. Yep that explains why we were there 8 hours and only 3 blood pressure tests. So that’s the first lie amongst many. Give them my urine test. 2 hours later a nurse comes in to take my urine sample, somehow not knowing I submitted 2 hours earlier. Then 2 hours later a complete other nurse comes along. I had to ask them about the urine results. This nurse has the audacity to say “oh yeah those results all came back clear for that”. YEAH THANKS FOR LETTING ME KNOW!! How on earth does it take 8 hours and not even get a blood sample taken. Just a few blood pressure checks. This place is disgusting. They claimed to have a heavy waiting room. So I decide to discharge myself, to walk out and see a complete ghost town. No patients, empty dorms, empty beds everywhere. I wasn’t even able to count 3 patients in the same area.

Family member was admitted with a severe injury via emergency ambulance and was treated disgustingly. Left for 48hrs before surgery with minimal pain relief, post surgery was screaming in pain and forced to walk on a broken leg with pins and plates. Nurse on ward breeched patient confidentialty by discussing patients pain relief with patient in bed next and was extremely rude. The bathroom was absolutely putrid. Discharged self as wouldn't send a dog there it's that bad. Patient was racially profiled and had on discharge forms sent to GP - secondary diagnosis - alcohol abuse. Patient doesn't drink! GP was absolutely disgusted and formal complaints have been filed. Readmitted to RAH where received excellent care for infection, mismanagement of pain, physio and proper care treatment plan. Apologies received from surgeons for maltreatment of patient. Do NOT go to this hospital if you can avoid it at all costs it is the worst experience ever.

  • Katie

The staff, especially mental health unit and the women's health unit are terrible. One staff member has violated my privacy and told many people about my mental health, spread rumours and when I called the hospital to sort this out, her manager blamed my mental health as the problem, used it against me, left me feeling suicidal and was yelling at me. A member of the women's health unit has spoken about many patients with identifying information. This hospital is a joke as are the staff, especially the social workers and the women's health services. For a 'manager' to yell at a patient is disgusting. A social worker who actively seeks to destroy your support system and family relationships is downright despicable. The hospital just swept it under the rug, they don't care about people's lives, mental health or suicide. I plan to contact these patients so they can start formal proceedings seeing as the hospital won't do anything.

  • Sooky

The ICU staff were 50% terrible and 50% amazing. When you’re in a vulnerable position though it should be 90% amazing! Michale was a nurse who dealt with my mother and didn’t do a proper hand over while he went on break and no other nurses were monitoring her. I luckily was with her when a needle fell out of her main artery. She bled profusely and I needed urgent assistance. She has medical issues that if she bleeds like this she can die! Doctor Ryan was not good either! Peter one of the nurses was also rude. (Good nurses Megan, Gee and Larissa). Dr Bhomer is very matter of fact and not empathetic. 2b is one of the worse wards! Julie not so bad, Venessa very rude and lied (Some are beautiful, Lilly is sweet) 2E is a lovely ward with lovely staff! I understand that there is a staffing issue but there is also the issue of staff leaving because of the bad apples. Things need to change or people will DIE!

  • Amanda Smith

My family and I will not ever be admitted there again! My husband has a severe reaction to a medication where he stops breathing and on 2 occasions Dr's went to give it to him without even asking if he had any allergies. They were only stopped because my husband asked 'what are you giving me?' and told them to stop! The 3rd time an intern (Mauve) wrote up for him to receive this medication aswell! which was only discovered and stopped by an EN. Apparently this same intern wrote up for him to receive 50mg of something when it should have been 5.0mg to which the nurse replied, 'What are you trying to do? Kill my patient?'. My poor husband was extremely ill and had to sleep with one eye open. Needless to say, I had him transferred. I also had to ask for his blood stained/sweaty sheets to be changed AND sharps were left in a tray filled with blood in his room. I would give 0 stars if I could.

Called an ambulance due to chest pain and jaw pain (possible heart attack symptoms) Off in the ambulance at 7am, taken to the Lyell, sat in an emergency room cubicle all day with minimal care until I told them I was discharging myself. Only then did they do the bare minimum so I still discharged myself anyways. Thank God I have private health insurance. I will now be increasing my level of health insurance as the public system is an absolute disgrace. The communication between the doctors and nursing staff is absolutely non existent. Taken in for chest pain. Taken off the heart monitor whilst I went for an X-ray, and not put back on it. Told the doctor I was discharging a few hours later and they tell me that is not wise, I may collapse etc. Umm if that is your concern, why have you just left me here with minimal care and no telemetry for hours?? Avoid at all costs if you can.

New Emergency Department. I wouldn’t call it ED I would call it D for Department. My experience every single time has been horrendous some people were falling off chairs, one lady fell off her chair & split her head open while waiting so long. I watched some people suffer so incredibly much & nurses just ignored them. However once I finally got through I was treated really well & have been admitted and the investigations by Dr’s thorough & the nurses in my ward have been kind & massively accommodating. I have pancreatic cancer & blown up like a big balloon with Polycystic Kidney disease & cysts in the liver & asthma as extra complications to the cancer. Very thorough & I’m hopeful they can resolve this new side effect & I can go home more comfortable & positive before chemo starts for me again in a few weeks. The Emergency Dept needs some severe fine tuning & care for sure.

My daughter gave birth for the first time in this hell hole! It was horrific! Midwifr Jill, examined her 4 times, didnt pick up that the babies head was facing upwards, My daughter was pushing so hard, nothing, she begged for an epidural...jill said too busy for that, begged for a morphine shot...jill said no! This was all in her birthing plan! Her son had to be called as code blue as a result of hrr failing to notice his head being gth wrong way ! You can not push a baby out if its upside down! Midwife was rude, arrogant, clearly hates her job. Nasty and did not care at all.And did not listen to my daughter, it was so traumatic for my daughter! They said suck the gas...the gas was not even on ffs! My daughter told them, they said yes its on, yhey checked it and laughed an said ohhh its off! Usless, disgustin midwife! Yea im going to sue you!

Terrible! It was our first experience to use emergency in Australia and now really we are frightened for our future. From 3 am to 6:30 am we waited in the reception area to see doctor but no things happened. My wife was vomiting and feeling terrible but no things happened. Only a lady came and did blood pressure and temp! She killed a crawling insect with her shoes and left it which was disgusting. We felt discrimination as all peaple which got reception even long time after us got service but finally we left there without seeing doctor! They said we are busy and you can see your GP! Finally my wife did visit GP in the health centre close to us at 7:30. I forgot to mention which the reception asked us which country originally we are from and what religion we practice which was really strange! I am going to lodge a complain if I find it's way.

On site parking is a blatant review raising scam with tickets being issued by security guards. The place is a shambles with all the work going on and the whole car park has been changed. There is no signes saying you can't park in stops that have multiple paint marks on the ground so it's hard to tell if it's a space or not. I received a $50 fine for parking next to another car in a spot that appeared to have 2 marked spaces when attending the emergency department. After a 3 hours of waiting after presenting with chest pain and a letter from my gp I returned to my car to find the fine attached to my windscreen yet the car I parked next to didn't. We where both parked between 2 painted islands. I feel it is unlawful of the hospital to be dishing out fines when the car park is so poorly painted

  • Xarcis One

I work as a carer for an elderly disabled woman. She had chest pains, I was worried so I called the ambulance. They took her to this horrible place. Once she got there they told me she may be having a heart attack. Even with that news, it took them 4 and a half hours to even start any kind of treatment. She is a diabetic and threw up her breakfast, so she needed to eat. I asked them to give her something to eat and expressed my concerns, multiple times. In fact, it was every 10 minutes for two whole hours. It took them that long to give her anything. I was told I cannot give her anything to eat either. I found the staff clueless, rude and out right neglectful of a serious problem. My client could have been put in a coma due to low sugar levels. If you wanna die, go here.

  • Tracey Cunningham

I had a horrific car accident today, my 14 yr old grand daughter and myself were transferred by 2x ambulances to this hospital. We were both treated promptly and with beautiful nurses and doctors...my doctor was caring and was very thorough. I only know her by the name...Dr Amy. Thank you for your care and compassion during my testing / scans /xrays etc. The nurses were beyond amazing. Thank you for treating me with absolute dignity. Nurse Kate was exceptional....she took my husband to see our grand daughter personally...this was such a kind gesture. Kate also wheeled me out to our car on my release. Kate nurses like you are so worthy of recognition as you make a scary experience that much better. All staff at the hospital were a magnificent team. Thank you

My Partner and I recently welcomed our baby at the Lyell McEwin. We can't speak highly enough of the Midwives and Doctors, honestly no compliants! On the contrary nothing but praise and thanks to each of you! We felt very safe and supported, we were always kept well informed and the follow up aftercare is such an awesome service. The nurses genuinely care and are there to help you with anything/ put your mind at ease, an absolute God send for new/ inexperienced parents. I would say that those who complain about this service either expect hotel like service with 1 to 1 Nurse, waiting on them hand and foot...Or they aren't getting the answers they want to hear.... Or perhaps they themselves are just rude/ abrasive people. Thanks Guys and Girls!

  • Dean Martinello

The negative reviewers here need to be less precious, stop whining and remember it's a hospital - not a hotel or a restaurant. I was taken to emergency at the Lyell for a broken ankle/tibia, staff were caring and professional, I was operated on the following day, and discharged the next. Very happy with my treatment. I waited a day to be operated on because more serious injuries took priority, and I'm perfectly happy with that. One day it might be me with the more serious injury! Have been to the outpatients ortho clinic a couple of times now and once again, the staff are professional and caring, and the Ortho registrar really took time to explain everything to me with no rush at all. Thanks again to all the staff at the Lyell!!

  • Anoxmouss

Was in the mental ward here by ambulance and stayed for nearly 2 months and it took a toll and destroyed my mental health the nurses even the pycitrious MARCO have no clue what actually goes on around them I ended up going to admit myself in and I was laughed at and it felt like bullying the whole time I was told to follow the signs home while my phone was on 1% this was after waiting nearly 7 hours when I was in the mental ward they did pee cups, blood test, mri scans even pregnancy test I felt like a lab rat and still do I was apparently diagnosed with schizophrenia but as of today headspace are thinking it might not even be that… don’t send your kids here it will definitely make you second guess and the place is revolting

  • Hannah May

I took my two month old in to get a checkup at Ed, when we were admitted they showed me where I could make bottles up right across the hall. My baby crying bc she's about to be fed and is a bit fussy and the nurse asks if I need any help (no other pateints in ward) I say no it's fine and as soon as i leave the room to go to make a bottle shes picked up my child and is shushing her, nurse couldn't get blood from her bleed her foot for an unnecessary ten minutes. No boundaries and unprofessional. A number of nurses just talking about my child saying I will come down and have a hold like we her parents are not even there. Discrimination of young new parents. Not okay. Insulted told I look tired.

  • Mel

I don't usually complain, sadly there is a philipino nurse ( i think on W1) that is beyond rude. Absolutely no manners, rings me 3 times but as I'm in the shower obviously I can't hear my phone ring. As I finish showering I answered the 3rd call. To her saying the following, and no "Hello". "I call you 3 times you not answer". As, I tried to explain why, whole time nurse talking over me. I nicely asked " Please let me talk, Please let me get a word in". Still talking over me. Again, I said nicely " If you continue to talk over me and not give me a chance to talk, I will hang up on you". Continues to talk, so down goes the phone. Other nurses absolutely wonderful and they let you talk.

  • Chris Reciszen

There a reason why this Hospital is Called the Hospital of Death. There service and staff treat you like your a dog. Not doing there job. Take hours on end to see you. I signed my self out due to being told i have to wait another 2 hours to be seen by a heart specialist why the staff where joking around and chatting. Ive still have the problem i went in there for and im to scared to go back to the hospital of Death. Ask anyone in the northern suburbs and they will call it that. Ive put a complaint in but i know in my self that stuff all will be done about it. The emergency room is the worst one on South Australia. Please try to go to another hospital if can for your own life safety.

  • mercedes bridgewater

Very sympathetic and friendly staff. Was given pain relief straight away in waiting room, waited for approx 1 hour to get admitted to the ER. Nurses were amazing and did anything they could to make me feel better. It took approx 8 hours to see a doctor (I was not in a life or death situ) but the nurses had managed my pain very well in that time anyway. Walked out feeling 100x better. Thank you ❤ Also, I can't believe the amount of 1 star reviews over wait times. Do people understand that ERs work on who needs help the most get seen quicker, not who gets there first gets served first? If you aren't dying, prepare to wait. Bring an ipad and be grateful you aren't the person dying.

  • Lauren Karagich

Absolutely disgusting experience here. Came in with anaphylaxis reaction and the nurse proceeded to tell me since I didn’t have a rash, that was not the cause. I had to stay in the waiting room for several hrs while I vomited every 20min. This was not seen as urgent and we gave up after 3 hours of waiting. Based on the amount of people, we would’ve waited 8hrs for a doctor. There was no sense of urgency with the staff, we waited 30min just for someone to see us at the desk. We also witnessed a nurse hit a lady’s leg who had a torn ACL. This proceeded to her crying out in pain and vomiting, the nurse didn’t show any concern and walked off. I will never go to this hospital again

  • plant nerd guy

I went to ER at 1230am after waking with severe kidney pain. It took a little while to get properly admitted, but they did what they could to make the wait comfortable. Once i was in they gave me great care and many tests to confirm the progression of a 5mm stone. I stayed through the night and morning and in the morning a specialist gave me the ok to go home and pass it. I was relieved that i didn't need an operation and glad we have a free medical system with modern equipment. It made me think though, with so many ignorant people refusing the covid vaccine, the hospitals will definitely struggle to give the level of care we enjoy now once we have open community transmission

  • Danni McGowen

By far the worst hospital. My sister has been twice in the last month and despite her condition being serious, there is no rush to help her, constant judgement about her weight, no support given her mental condition and absolutely no communication. In what world do you just not feed someone for 4 days, and forget to feed an entire ward their dinner. Like someone else has mentioned, she was dumped in the overflow ward which is mixed gender. Absolutely foul. Unhygieni, old and not a proority when it coems to basic care or food. Once my sister has had the care she needs we will be formally reporting her situation through the appropriate channels.

  • Anna philippou

My daughter was born and then transferred from Gawler to the Lyell McEwin Special Care Nursey for 4 days due to an infection. On her stay in this nursery the nurses were absolutely incredible. They took such good care of my daughter and of course I still hated leaving her at the hospital but they made me feel alot less stressed about it by being so great. I was updated everyday about my daughters care and whilst she was in the nursery all she did was flourish and was able to come home before the expected date. All the nurses in this nursery are amazing. Thankyou so much for taking such good care of my little princess ❤️

  • Rebecca Joseph

The Indian female doctors are absolutely disgusting telling me I'm going to miscarriage when I haven't, then told me I have to terminate my pregnancy of infection levels. They never put me on antibiotics just told me to kill my baby, I get bloods done to check my levels which have gone from 39 to 33 in one day since I left the hospital. My body is obviously fighting the infection off on its own at home, glad I didn't listen to them as my baby would be dead right now. 7weeks later my baby boy is absolutely healthy with no complications, glad I ignored what they said and didn't kill my baby almost six months now.

  • Emily May

got a referral from a doctor saying i needed to be seen as i may have needed emergency surgery on my appendix… waited for over 4 hours while the doctors, who did not ask about my visit, ate grain waves and chatted behind their reception desks and the doctors did not come and take a patient in for hours. everyone in the waiting area chatted about how they have been there for hours. one old man had been there for 11.5 hours before being seen. i would not send someone there if they were bored, let alone needing immediate attention. another lady was pregnant! and was not seen the whole time we were waiting either!!

  • Dojo Cat

I have been referred to this hospital to see a specialist, still waiting for an appointment date 8 YEARS later on a semi urgent waiting list! Disgusting service! Care factor from staff is zero when making enquiries and this is also the score they would receive if i could, 0 stars! When staff cannot answer questions as to why the long wait, they put you through to a 'Manager' which is actually a message bank. This type of service and action from senior team leader 'Jamie' is appalling and similar to all past phone enquiries to them. Your neglectful service is disgraceful!

  • Oek Foh

Been here few times, parking can either be a bit of a trip or to pay for Staff do the best they can during these times, I was handled with positive spirits with all that took care of me, except for one person at the ED booth, understandably though... That room is chaos at times Matthew in ED was great with me. Well all of them were but he was the only one name I remembered, just the way he spoke to me was cool and reinforcing that everything will be alright These people are doing some amazing work, keeping positive towards patients despite the environment they work in

  • Jim Beam

Worst hospital in the WORLD it is run by power crazed self serving evil ratbags. There only concern is there own rules and regulations. They have forgotten a hospital is for the patients. To enforce there evil power crazed ways they have security on every ward! No hospital in the WORLD has this amount of security. This belies there evil. The entire management should be sacked fired thrown out they have no idea how to run a hospital. A hospital has one purpose that is to treat patients not run a prison camp. Curse the management to hell.

  • Lauren

Many of the nurses, doctors, and security guards, have lost their compassion, and empathy and have become desensitised to people's suffering; the hypocratic oath is out the window and people are being dehumanised! It's so sad to see! I no longer feel safe under their care and wonder how many people are dying, from the disgusting neglect that I have witnessed at this hospital. Animals get treated better at the vet. They don't even do the bare minimum when it comes to duty of care. There are some nice staff but very few!

  • Jamie Hedderwick

Absolutely horrendous! I took my POSITIVE covid case client with schizophrenia as she needed a fortnightly jab done. We have been ignored for the past two hours. No reassurance from the nurses, if the call bell is rung they just say your not important and can wait and leave. Can not believe that half of the staff here are “medical professionals” with the way they act and stand in huge groups chatting in the hallways ignoring their patients. Never had a good experience at the hospital and don’t think I ever will.

  • Rachel Mohi-Davies

My niece was sent to this place by her doctor, only to be treated like a liar, ignored when trying to inform them of the problem, and sent home when they could not figure anything out. Ignorant, arrogant and stupid staff and doctors. My niece told them she was uncomfortable with males and asked for only females. She knew there would be a longer wait, but, a male Dr was brought in at the end so, I guess they could say she refused treatment. Not very professional at all. I did not even want to leave 1 star.

  • Sandra Mckean

Sadly was not a great experience, arrived by ambulance travelling just over an hour from the country to be dumped in a waiting room bleeding from my uterus for 2/3hrs with no pants and a sheet wrapped around me, luckily i bought my own pads!! No one to give bloods tests, and took approx 6 hrs for medication to stop the bleeding, didn’t see a doctor, only nurses and left with no home care consultation. Very confused to what i was meant to do when i arrived home an hour away from the nearest hospital

  • Lee P

Some amazing staff and processes/ treatment.. some appalling.. My wife was in for about 3 or 4 days after giving birth at home on the floor (unplanned).. it is estimated that she lost over half of her blood.. her blood stained sheets were not changed..nor was she offered assistance bathing.. had blood on her legs from the birth on the second to last day when I helped her into the shower...with our 5 year old at the time looking in horror. Sometimes no food offered...or delivered.. amongst other things.

  • The Wanderer Returns

My wife was taken in to the Lyell McEwin late on Thursday evening. I have to say the staff - nurses, ER doctors, the whole team - were fantastic. They were really attentive and quickly got my wife's pain under control. The ER nurses even popped into the Ward after their shift to say bye and see how my wife was doing. We have had some horrible experiences in the NHS back in the UK and found the care here in SA much better. I call it as both my wife and I saw it. Excellent and had to say thanks!

  • Zita Stephens

Absolutely disgusted in the service! Have gone my whole pregnancy here. Currently at 37 weeks pregnant. I had a physio appt booked for 2 weeks. Told them I would be 10 minutes late 2 weeks ago which they apparently noted. Got to the physio for them to tell me that they didn't even have my file there and they don't have time to get it so they didn't have time for me to been seen even though I booked. Horrible service! Thinking about changing my address just so I don't have to give birth there!

  • Hellen Lo

Was admitted by ambulance and spent time in the Rescus Room. Staff were amazing. Was then transferred to Cardiac Unit where the incredible service continued. The lady who mopped my cubicle, menu collector lady, food delivery, sonita the nurse, reception staff were all so friendly. Thank you for making the best out of a horrible situation for me. I have always gone to private hospitals but from now in will ask to go to Lyle McEwin. I am so impressed with our public system. Thanks guys!

  • Cathy Lomman

I had the most wonderful service from the staff in the emergency department tonight. I sliced the tip off one of my fingers today at 11am. It was still bleeding at 6pm. I was taken to the hospital and from the time I arrived to when my finger was treated I can only have praised for each and every staff member I saw. I only had to wait for 10 minutes before I was called in. I wish to thank Jason who treated me his service was fantastic. Thank you for the most wonderful service.

  • sam spiniello

Just wanted to say the women's health department here for me and my wife were outstanding, we cannot thank enough the men, women, and mid wives for bringing our little lily into to the world. really good support and service was it was an all round fantastic experience. like many people who move mid north off Adelaide you tend to only here the negatives about this place , we had ZERO. i would happily continue to visit Lyell for any medical needs. Again thank you all.

  • Tina Jean Cadman

Two female doctors in ED with a very cold demeanour and absolutely no holistic approach. They accused me of not being in pain & said the nurses told them I'd been going outside for cigarettes whilst I was there. I did not have 1 cigarette or any in my possession the whole time I was there. I asked for help to get my incompetent cervix checked & they declined. Will not be having my baby there anymore. Never felt so discarded & invalidated. I made a formal complaint.

  • Andrew Roworth

From my experience, the Lyell McEwin Hospital treated me well in my short stay.I don't really have anything bad to say about them. The doctors and nurses that i had were all nice. There was once nurse in particular that was very nice and was funny and would take the time to talk to you and get to know you. Anyway so far my experiences with this hospital have been good, although i don't wish to stay there again haha. Not a fan of hospitals. Thanks for reading. :)

  • Jodie

My son was a victim of your cruel practice. 10 minutes after his baby was born one if your rude nurses asked him how he was getting home. He had not even held his own child yet. Your nursing staff lack compassion. Hospitals are supposed to care. You seem to have forgotten that. If your nurses don't want to help people they need to stay home and do everyone who goes through maternity a favour. It is unforgivable what you did and let happen for so long.

  • Travis Horsfield

I was transferred from Modbury for an emergency appendix removal. Hands down, THANK YOU to all the RNS at 2FX, to the surgeons and doctors. You truly helped me feel really comfortable and put my mind at ease. Given the climate we’re in, these guys deserve a bit more slack and I think it’s pretty fair to say that the general public forget that the RNS are humans too. Patience and a little extra understanding goes a very long way. Thank you everyone!!

  • Aagosh Sharma

My friend had a surgery on 21st march 2023. After surgery she was admitted in womens health ward. Our nurse FIONA was very rude, she didn’t cared at all. And indirectly told us to leave. She said if you wanna stay i dont care i will not help you if you want anything. After when i told her we are ready to go, she just gave us a wheelchair and told us to leave, didn’t even cared to show us a way out and started abusing. Everyone else was good.

  • Kay Unwin

I was in Day Surgery in Gastric section on Tuesday 7/6/22, it’s a concern to anyone having surgery including me but I have to say the service was tremendous! A display board showing procedure in the check in area informed me of the entire procedure. The staff were informative all through the procedure, all levels of staff extremely helpful and any questions answered! It made a concerning situation easier to handle. Thankyou to all involved.

  • Veronica Hopgood

My husband too ill after an atrial fibulation episode at home. Ambulance was at out home in 5min Max. They were unbelievable. Go to the hospital and again were absolutely unbelievable. They saved my husband's life twice in a short time. Moved to CCU. Again unbelievable care. Dr Lypourlis again incredible. Emergency pacemaker done. This all happened from 12.15am Saturday morning to Saturday 11.00am. Cannot praise highly enough ok o

  • Patricia Hayward

Staff and facilities are great despite the current situation BUT.....in the 11 years I've been going to the hospital I've always been annoyed at the fact there are large no smoking signs out the front saying fines apply, but now its worse than ever with people blatantly smoking right by the signs and even sitting down next to people are eating! I have no problem with smokers, but please....go to the correct place...

  • Bill Roney

Fabulous care and attention during my 8-day stay in 2E. Thank you to everyone involved, doctors, other professional teams, and of course the nurses - I couldn't have asked for better care. And the food was excellent, although I couldn't do justice to it for a while. I know hospitals are often criticized for their level of service, but I can only record my own experience, and it was first class. Thank you again.

  • Mauro Belperio

I'm mauro, months ago from when I spoke to Lyell McEwin over the phone there were incredibly helpful which put my mind at ease. Then few weeks back pre-appointment was amazing and Angie looked after me then today for the procedures still amazing with Sue,Belinda and Matt the surgeon, Lewis and others forgot names with anaestheticand all. I just wanted to say thank you, you guys are truly amazing. ,others, sor

  • Lee Denton

So very thankful to the wonderful nurses and Doctors in the ED at the Lyell Mc. Also the fantastic team at the AMU. Very professional and most importantly very respectful when treating my elderly Mother. We could not have asked for better care during a time of crisis and 20 days following. Thank you sso much to all the dedicated staff at the Lyell Mac. Your efforts are really a appreciated. Lee and Betty

  • Kayla Jerry

Called to explain an emergency my 32 week partner had. With explained problems we are told to go to emergency ASAP and we’ll get in. They make us wait half an hour in emergency then Transfer us to woman’s health. An hour waiting in here still not seen and there is no staff at desk. This place is unorganised and useless when it comes to help. Emergency is for emergency not sore throats and bruises

  • sophie white

If you seek psychiatric help then don’t bother. They’re Useless , I came in voluntarily seeking psychiatric help, been here for 12 hours just for them to monitor my blood pressure and heart rate levels, to then tell me I only need to see a gp because it’s a personality disorder and they can’t help me, and that I need to help myself. If I could help myself I wouldn’t bother coming in here

Excellent. Was looked after very well by the doctors and nurses (especially nurse Helen, and the tall indian nurse (I forget her name). .(she gave gave me a backrub .:) ) I enjoyed the meals ,too, although a couple of times i was refused a drink because they said i was on fluid restriction when i wasn't. That was no big deal, though. Even though i was sick, i enjoyed my 4 week stay there :)

To the lady working as a receptionist in women’s health, you’re a rude, judgmental and entitled woman and probably need to seek medical help yourself. The way you judge everyone in the waiting room and loudly announce their private medical/ personal information for all to hear. I wish I got your name so I could file a complain. I WOULD NOT BRING MY DOG HERE FOR ANY KIND OF TREATMENT

  • Kylie Batts

Partner has been here over a week most of the nurses are arrogant and don't do their jobs properly eg medications on time and care has been neglected myself or whome ever is with him has to do their jobs for them. Today we put a request through to get transferred to another hospital. Absolutely disgusting and you charge people private health to stay here for care that doesn't exist

  • Lesley M

Brilliant, from the ambulance, to emergency, orthopedic care, doctors, nurses, surgeons, anesthesiologists, catering, physio, admin and everyone involved in the whole process of my care. Cant fault an organisation and the individuals representing that organization who are so caring and knowledgeable. A horrific incident for me made better by everyone at the Lyell McEwin. Thankyou.

  • Caroline Barlow

Compared to private hospitals this is brilliant, literally a life saver in my case. A & E would not be so bad if people went to their doctor earlier. Local doctors rooms often charge a gap fee and many in the area use the hospital instead which is why there can be lengthy waiting times. if there really is something wrong, you are seen very quickly, and the staff are friendly.

  • Jessica Maiolo

when I was there waited 4hrs to see someone, came by ambulance nurse was horrible to me told me to get up with server ovary pain. the people in surgery how ever were fantastic absolutely beautiful who moved as fast as they could and treated me as best they could. I had surgery through keyhole was in by 9pm and out by 1 am. the staff couldn't do enough for me in that section.

  • Claire Mann

Great staff and medical team, very caring when it comes to family illness or loss. The waiting times in emergency can be long depending on what you go for but the staff are very accommodating to help make you feel the most comfortable you can be. Maternity ward is excellent! I would highly recommend people coming here to seek medical attention as they do a very thorough job!

  • Tyarna Vokes

Poor patient care really good at neglecting their patients and not reading notes. So come here if you wanna be possibly be killed highly recommended not coming here but sadly only hospital in Elizabeth. So if you don't wanna be neglected or forgotten about please source another hospital because this one is useless and is more then likely to kill you then actually save you.

Everything takes too long. I went to the emergency with a serious pregnancy problem was there for 4 hours and told I would be better off going home and coming back in the morning to Women’s assessment unit as we would have to wait all night anyway. Need better management and more staff to cope with the patients as it was a quite night and in 4 hours no patients went in.

I recently attended Cardiac Outpatients at Lyell McEwinn Hospital. My appointment went smoothly from start to finish. The reception were welcoming and informative ecen though she was clearly busy. The Dr and Nurse were wonderful, they were encouraging and reassuring, helped me complete procedure. I couldn't have asked for more. Thanks to the staff at Cardiac Out Patients

My experience was best in this hospital. I gave birth to baby girl with normal delivery. All staff was very professional and cooperative but most of all I would like to thank Anne midwife nurse. She did amazing job and motivate me a lot during my delivery. she support me every minute of my journey. They work hard, doing good job and I appreciate it. Thank you so much.

Staff are friendly, but there is more to dealing with sick people than being friendly. Feeding them could help more. I spent two days in two different hospital Medication prescribed and given no problem, but to spend each day with no food or access to water or hot drinks was non existent.it is no good curing their illness only to have them die of starvation.

I recently was admitted to the Lyell Mac and as far as I am concerned we are very fortunate to have such an excellent hospital nearby. I was more than humbled by the amount of genuine care and compassion that everyone from the Dr's, nurses, orderlies and everyone inbetween showed towards me. Excellent staff and great food to boot. Thank you to one and all.

  • Linda

I had a really good experience when I went to ED, despite the Covid crisis that's been overwhelming the hospital systems. The nurses and doctors really took care of me while I was here and I'm ever so grateful to have been in their care. They are truly doing an amazing job while being under so much pressure and don't get enough recognition for this.

I got a disability so I park in car park to be told the car park space is for cancer customers only an got to to park somewhere else I got walking aid and can't walk that far I got told by the blonde pimbo with bad manners or you be fined I had to cancel a very important doctor appointment to because of it lmh transport service is a massive problem

I took my mum to emergency this morning as she had a fall and broke her shoulder. From the moment we arrived she was treated with compassion and kindness. She was assessed and treated immediately. The nursing, admin and doctors were absolutely wonderful, so too the volunteer who brought us both a coffee. Thank you for all you do.

  • Taryn Steele

I had to stay in the short stay mental health. The psychiatrist slapped bpd on everyone and discharged me after 3 days because my husband and mother in law took me out for lunch so I must be feeling better. I still want to kill myself so good job. If your doctor wants to send you here ask for anywhere but. Nurses were lovely though.

  • Robyn Jackson

I have been visiting this hospital for various illnesses including massive silent stroke, and I have had three seperate MRI and cat scans performed, I recently went in for an ear nose and throat specialist appointment, only to have him tell me he can't locate any of the three seperate MRI images I have had. What incompetence

  • Nathan Pearson

I was waiting 8 & half hours just to be told I need to see my GP to get a back scan,I couldn't get in my G P so I went to emergency. A waist of resources and still in pain due to the incompetence of the staff. I wouldn't even put 1 star but if you don't, you can't post a negative review. Don't go to this hospital

  • B Foh Bishal

This is one of the best hospitals I have visited so far. The doctors are highly knowledgeable and humble. Once, a fish bone was stuck in my neck. So I went to the emergency department. Although, I had to wait for a while but the treatment they gave me was just outstanding. Worth walking for a distance. Recommend.

Wish I could rate 0 I'm 7 weeks pregnant having pain went in to get looked at and being sent to every where been told to go see the nurse when I already have been sent for a covid RAT test when I don't have covid or sick IM PREGNANT I'm NOT having my baby here I'm so upset and unorganised I've gone to gawler

  • Wunlee Smith

The only good ward is the Special Care Nursery, everywhere else is just plain awful to deal with. The management of this hospital is horrendous. Nurses and midwives gasbag between themselves, instead of helping and communicating with patients. You feel completely ignored as a patient. I hate this place...

  • Sandra Valacco

Oh far too many complaints to write in this small box, but you will hear from me An RN of 40 years ( a lot of that Pal Care ) I was told that my step Dad was NOT terminal ..that was 2 weeks before his death and 1 week prior to the actual dying in Hospital .No concept of Palliative Care whatsoever ..

  • Tko

The hospital has been fantastic. I appreciate their rules atm within the hospital. I completely understand why, they are just trying to keep everyone safe but the carparks need to be looked at definitely not enough parking spaces close by which makes it very hard for someone who can't walk very far.

  • Bent Crazy

I rang cardio outpatients over and over again for two days, no body ever answered the phone. I ended up writing them a letter. When at the outpatients waiting area I often see folks ignoring the phone as it continuously rings. I'm afraid to ask why because they might call the cops or something.

  • Kylepounder-gaming

Staff are generally good and helpful Just the wait times is harendes, the parking is terrible which forces you too pay even if you have a disability permit. Though everything is slower in the country I guess. At least Qld has free disability permit parking unlike this rip off scumbag state.

  • Raisa Gandzii

Hi. I would like to give them 5 stars. As I had recently delivered my child there. Staff are so professional. I can't remember all their names but I remember Daniela. She is the best, she support me every minute of my journey. They work hard, doing good job and I appreciate it. Thank you.

  • Sarah Binns

Have been on the wait list for my endo for around 2 years, and when I called up, they told me to expect to wait another 2 years. They don't care about the fact that it's killing my quality of life and my mental well-being. Just told to talk to my GP. Fix the public system already!!!

  • Ryan Powney

Big thank you to the surgical team and the nurses who look after you. I see alot of complaints about waiting times and lack of staff but unfortunately it is the state governments fault, and not the hospital itself. Had multiple nurses who were all very professional and caring.
