"Initial admittance and surgery was supportive and caring"
I was here for day surgery and whilst the nurses, doctor and anesthetist were lovely, it didn’t feel like a private hospital stay. You don’t get your own room when having day surgery (which I was expecting as I’ve had my own room for recent surgery at the North Eastern). Instead, you are put into waiting rooms whilst wearing your gown, and then when recovering. At one point I was in a corridor which high traffic of nurses and doctors walking past, which isn’t ideal for private patients who are anxiously waiting for surgery. I felt like there was minimal privacy. Waking up from surgery I was close to two other patients recovering beside me which felt violating and weird. The nurses were also very loudly talking about their weekends and messing around in the recovery area - it was unprofessional and inconsiderate for people waking up from GA. I was then wheeled to another area to recover where I was in a recliner chair opposite people who were also recovering from their surgery. It felt strange and invasive waking up from surgery, having ice packs on my face (from surgery) and having to try and eat in front of people; one nurse didn’t like it when I asked for my curtains to be shut for privacy either. All in all, the surgery went well and the medical professionals were lovely but I wouldn’t want to go back; I would have rather my own room to prepare and recover from surgery and have privacy. It felt like a public hospital stay which was disappointing.
From the moment I hobbled into the admission the staff were sooo lovely and got a wheel chair for me (I was having knee surgery and could barely walk). The lovely student nurse who took me up to where she completed my admission. She was so soft spoken and made me feel at ease, I can’t remember her name but thank you. To the staff who spoke to me in the waiting area before my surgery everyone was smiling and saying hello. Nurse yong who chatted with me to keep me calm and my anaesthetic nurse sorry I can’t remember your name, but you were beautiful such a lovely nature you have. We made a good team, you pushing my wheel chair and I holding my notes haha. To dr Brook and dr bob and theatre staff everyone made me feel comfortable and was always asking how I was going and explaining everything they were doing BIG THANK YOU. To nurse Gemma who looked after me once I got into my ward, as well as all the other nurses (sorry I can’t remember names) you all made me feel welcomed and you took great care of me. I really appreciate everything everyone has done for me. You made a scary and sore time much more better. You all were lovely!! Thank you
For a private hospital there was poor access and assistance at the reception main entrance for someone (my husband) with limited mobility and balance issues. He is a high falls risk.NO wheelchair was available, nowhere to sit either. Volunteer tried to get a wheelchair but they were 'in the wards' and so we then were told to sit in the Hudsons cafe chair. Thankfully the ONLY random chair available being utilised was given up by someone who obviously could see my husband's desperation and need to sit down before he fell down. I couldn't leave my husband to stand on his own for fear of him falling but he was still called to the reception desk. Muddled info provided at reception, perhaps there was staff overload but certainly not a friendly welcome particularly when one is feeling awfully stressed about day surgery. I hope his surgery experience is much better with Memorial's nurses and his visiting doctor.
My friend is currently in Memorial since Monday night 1st night was the warning Liason nurse level 3 did not help with the moving of a toilet seat riser that my friend friend needed to use due to past spinal surgery also she was needing a blanket and this was thrown at her to make her own bed Medication was given late the next morning she was told to shower without assistance or a towel as apparently the towel was on the bed This nurse also delayed this ladies surgery as she didn't have her ready in time Surgery went well ICU nurse told her she was busy and couldn't look after her Gelco came out and leaked over the bed Apologies were made Dr ordered medication for headache pharmacy didn't have the right type Today blood transfusion ordered 10hrs ago blood nurse then couldn't find the order And this is day 4 Get your act together pls
Initial admittance and surgery was supportive and caring. Once returned to room after surgery was okay but nurse care from one particular nurse the following 2 days was disappointing. Was made to feel like I didn't matter, the nurse didn't speak to me even to say hello, she never tried to make a connection, was made to feel like I was not important and spoke too me in a condescending way when she did say something. I reported this and asked her not to be on my ward to care for me the next day but she was. This distressed me and when she have me antibiotics via a pump it leaked everywhere and she had me in tears. Then she just walked pout when I commented the huge leak from my cannula. Highly distressing stay and felt uncared for. Due to this. This was formally reported.Flag | April 3,
Five out of five. I have had the misfortune to have 3 day surgeries in different hospitals in the last 18 months and without a doubt the Memorial Hospital came out way, way in front of the others. The staff were amazing, they smiled all the time, a lovely nurse named Kerry sat and chatted with me when she saw I was getting a bit anxious, the recovery ward staff were amazing, so considerate, so happy to help, smiling and cheerful all the time. Peter, Joseph and Yow deserve a special mention but even the lovely guy who checked me in was polite and smiley. Just what you need when you're unsure. Well done all the guys involved!
I cannot fault the staff. Lovely and friendly. It was fantastic to have a vegan menu that was delicious. The only thing I can fault from my stay of 4 nights, was I absolutely did not like that I had to sit in a waiting room for several hours with my suitcase whilst waiting to have a knee replacement and then wake up in my room and not be able to retrieve anything from my case because I could not walk. I have never been to a hospital that did not check you into a room prior to a surgical procedure that required an overnight stay. I found this very distressing and a waste of time packing my case.
A very poor hospital that’s just surviving. I had a shocking time when having my operation and a overnight stay. Out dated operating theatres and bumbling staff had me very worried for my life. I regret being talked into choosing this hospital. PLEASE go somewhere else. I had heard several staff taking about how bad the MRSI is and that they trying to get employment elsewhere. If could give no stars I would there was nothing positive about staying here. I suspect that the other reviews on here may be from staff members, I recognise one name at least from my stay.
Had knee surgery there and was a very positive experience, from the Surgeon, Dr Webb, to the Anesthetist, Operating staff, nurses-all were excellent. In recovery after, watching the staff with two little children was lovely to see-any parent who’s little ones go through surgery here, your little ones are in excellent hands. I cannot fault any part of my stay-even the part where I had to go home in hospital gown and slippers as couldnt access my clothes, gave me a laugh when I left. If you need to go here for anything, I highly recommend the Hospital.
My day surgery at The Memorial Hospital took place just over a week ago. The ENT surgeon, Dr Samuel Boase, was the best, as was my anethetist, Dr Andrew Wing. Both were caring, very professional and explained everything I needed to know. Dr Boase may need to operate again, depending on what a forthcoming ultrasound reveals of my thyroid, and I will have no hesitation in having him as my surgeon again, if he performs the type of surgery that could be needed. The staff, that I came into contact with, all proved a good advertisement for the hospital.
Disgusted with the attitude towards people with food allergies, and clear disdain towards providing nutritious meals for people who have. My mother in law cannot have margarine, and was told the hospital cannot provide butter. We were told to bring our own in. HOWEVER this was the breakfast she received....2 pieces of dry bread, and juice. What the actual.....? Not even some jam , or something to actually make it palatable. How is that a nutritious meal for an elderly person, recovering from a major surgery? Absolute travesty!
My first visit to Memorial Hospital was August 1972 - my fifth visit was 1st October 2022 and was my best hospital experience ever. Starting at admissions and through to theatre. The most special team of people. Thank you to all those wonderful caring staff that blended their duties with the magic of humour. If family stories are true then thank you also to my great uncle Rev William JOHN Mortimer said to be a founding member of Memorial Hospital. I’m sure he would be very impressed just like me. Lyn Ruxton
Had a very large melanoma removed last Fri. My admittance nurse was great explaining what would be happening bit by bit. From then on I found all the nurses wonderfull and caring . I do remember a few of their names Abby, Pam Neriol Belinda, the night nurses were just as good one in particular Bibin Kuriakose he was so very caring and thoughtful top rate nurse(hope u can get to read this Ben) In fact thank you to all staff who looked after me you were so good A Great Hospital all so kind.
I visited a family member who had surgery here, and while the surgery was good, the rehab doctor made some terrible mistakes relating to his preexisting conditions and medications which caused a lot of issues. Also while in the shared rehab room, the room was so cold that they lent him a column heater but didn't have enough for other patients. How is it that going to a private hospital is such a downgrade from public hospitals. Highly recommended avoiding.
My mother was an inpatient, after surgery, for 7 days. I spent every day visiting for several hours each day. The staff were wonderful and kind. The serving staff exceptional serving tea or coffee to me as well! Parking is metered street parking or you could try your luck with the public parking station in Kermode Street. I travelled by train with an easy walk of 1.1km each way from Adelaide train station. I highly recommend this hospital.
I was born 60 years ago at the Memorial hospital, I recently had a minor procedure done, Being that it was day surgery..I was treated with the utmost care, compasion, and understanding. Everyone, from administration, day stay staff, anethatis, theatre, staff, doctors and everyone. I could not have asked for better care. I highly recommend this hospital and Staff.. Even got a follow up phone call to see how I was. Thanks all 100 out of 100
Great hospital. All staff were friendly and supportive, which put me completely at ease before surgery. They must have recently done a full interior revamp, as every part of the hospital I saw looked new and tastefully decorated. There was a big variety of vegan food on the menu, and all the food I got was tasty and cooked to perfection (not all overcooked and mushy like I was expecting).
I would like to thank all the nursing staff at Memorial Hospital who looked after me after my back operation last week. They are very caring and professional but still had time to share a laugh. Would like to thank the staff in the ICU for all their care and all the girls in Clarke Ward as well as the Physio’s. Thank you all for making my stay a good experience Adriana Kroon
A 5 Star rating for Excellent THR Surgeon and the Staff who assisted him..... The nurses are to be complemented as they need to continue having a good sense of humour with what they face on a daily basis, and we have had a pleasant time served here - together...... Food rates well too ! I'd recommend the "Ol' Hospital" to others......
The way the hospital treats children for surgery is exceptional. Our 17 month old had surgery at around 9.30am and was home at 1pm. Tonight at 7.15pm you wouldn't know he's had surgery at all today. Back to his old self in no time. The playroom and facilities are first class. The nurses are amazing. The Doctor was amazing. A truly fantastic experience.
Thank you to the nursing staff who provided care to me during my surgery on Monday, 10th of October. A special thanks to Rebecca, Charlotte & Kerry. They were the calm, smiling faces I saw prior to my Anaesthetic and the reassuring voices I heard when first waking up . You do a wonderful job and I am extremely thankful for the work you do. Julie
The facilities are outstanding and the staff at this hospital are great. I found the staff extremely competent and caring. This was across the board after dealing with 10-15 separate people for surgery. The environment and staff made something that was anxious for me at first, to then comfortable and feeling confident that I was in good hands.
Only get two stars for staff and not enough of them.... Urine bottle left not empty for few hours and left on food and water table not being showered or hand washed over 5 days and had to clean wardrobe as blood splattered on it took a lot of effort to clean... Standards very poor standards why do we have private health just a real shame 2/10
Absolutely amazing service from all the nurses and hospital staff. I felt extremely supported and cared for through the entire surgery process and post op care. A massive thank you to the nurses that were understanding of my severe anxiety and how they cared for me. Food was also delicious, rooms clean and comfortable.
What a wonderful hospital, the staff, and doctors are so dedicated looking after you, and your needs. I m in for 5days /4 nights I’ve had surgery and recovered very well thanks to everyone here. I’ve never had a stay in hospital except overnight issues. The catering was exceptional. Well done MEMORIAL HOSPITAL.
I commend the memorial hospital on my recent admission for minor surgery.Admission, screening, all staff, nurses, surgeon and others made for a very professional and efficient experience. I felt supported and safe and guided step by step the whole time.Thank you soo much memorial hospital and staff.
Worst experience ever. Told to come in at 8.30 am and didn’t go to theatre until 15.45. 7 hours of unnecessary stress and anxiety for the patient and family. Get your act together who ever is responsible, if your not going to surgery until P.M , DONT tell them to arrive at 8.30 in the morning.
I had a wonderful experience at the Memorial Hospital in the Clarke Ward. The nursing staff where friendly and attentive, especially Michelle and Coby. Their kindness and caring nature made being in a hospital a better experience. Thank you and cannot recommend this Hospital and staff enough.
Recent day procedure there. Nursing staff brilliant nice and accommodating during a nerve racking time. Post operation they could not have done more to make me comfortable. Also the specialist and his team... fantastic! I hope to not be back again but if I am I know I'm in safe hands …
I had a hip replacement and spent 3 nights in the hospital. The nurses and all the support staff were simply wonderful, kind and caring, as well as being competent and professional. It makes all the difference when recovering. I am very grateful and want to say a big thank you.
Memorial Hospital is absolutely fantastic. My daughter was there for surgery yesterday, the staff always kept me updated on her progress. Even today to get a call from a staff member to see how she was, it's just great. Keep up the awesome, work Memorial Hospital 10/10
Was just discharged from an overnight stay after having my tonsils removed and the team was fantastic, especially Nurse Paige who was my nurse in Clark Ward she made sure I was always comfortable as well as going above and beyond for any of my needs. Amazing nurse!
My wife had a surgery in her back, she could barely even move. Had one night overstay and one of the staff was rude towards her then forced her out of the hospital. No wheelchairs to help support and hardly any chairs in reception. Wouldn't recommend this hospital!
Had a great stay for 2 days, one more than planned, from 13-14th Feb. My patient journey from admission to discharge was really pleasant. What I liked was that every staff member had time to stop & listen to me. My special shout out goes to the singing tea lady
Checking in was great. My nurse was lovely before surgery. After surgery and overnight was a complete mess. Miscommunication between surgeon and nurses led to me having limited pain relief and communication between nurses not accurate.
very bad service, they don't even have staff to take the booking, all they said is, we only have one person know how to make the booking for the appointment, and she is not available, keep ringing back every 30mins until she is here.
Absolutely amazing experience. Just had my tonsillectomy surgery and had an overnight stay. The staff were amazing and the nurses were so friendly and helpful. Very clean and very quiet and would definitely recommend this hospital.
I can’t thank the wonderful staff on the Perry Ward enough for your compassion, empathy and the occasional hug when needed. 6 nights after a knee replacement with Dr Comley I’m home doing well, thank you for your exceptional care.
Had an overnight stay after surgery. Facility is good, foods great and all the staff I encountered were awesome. If you're unfortunate enough to need to go to hospital, this is the place to go. Well done to all the staff.
I came here because I needed ankle surgery and the staff is amazing, they are kind and helpful and are always there when you need them. Oh. And the food is actually pretty good! I would recommend this hospital to anyone!
The childrens day surgery Facilities are spotless bright and welcoming and the staff are just wonderful and caring. Master 8 was at ease and post surgery when he was in discomfort he was treated with compassion and care
Recently spent a week at the Memorial Hospital for rehab and found the staff and doctors here to be very supportive and attentive the true meaning of how patients should be viewed and treated when they are in hospital.
Great care, shame about the billing. No invoice was sent to me, or any reminders for my medications. Leading to me to getting a call from a collection agency for the outstanding money owed that I knew nothing about.
Excellent care given to me during my stay July 20 - 24/2023 A special thankyou to the staff on Critical Care Unit, your positive & caring attitude did not go unnoticed. Thankyou to you all …
The hospital facilities are excellent, great room, really good size TV and quiet at night. The staff are friendly and monitored me constantly. The food was excellent. Nothing to fault.
