The pharmacist at this location is petty and EXTREMELY unprofessional! While being fully aware that I’m a transplant recipient with no immune system, she made me wait for an entire hour for a medication that she claimed needed prior authorization from my doctor! I brought my phone with my doctor on it AND SHE AND HER ASSISTANT WALKED AWAY FROM THE COUNTER! Then claimed that they sent my doctor the pre authorization paperwork, only for my doctor to tell me they DIDN’T! They sent her incomplete paperwork to do herself! When I asked for the number to leave a performance review she kept repeating its on a receipt THAT I DONT HAVE! The manager David says he saw what was faxed and that it wasnt incomplete. So apparently my doctor is a liar now. This place is disgustingly filthy inside, and frankly they are downright disrespectful! David indicated that the pharmacy is understaffed as if that’s an excuse for the unprofessional behavior! As if that salves the pain from my surgery… his dismissive irritated tone was NOT unnoticed! No patient should be treated how I was treated today! EVER! This place needs to be investigated for medical racism, and malpractice!

I can’t with this place. It has gone downhill over the past year and I vow to not come back unless it’s an emergency. The place smells terrible since they do the can and bottle recycling inside - smells like hot garbage. There are empty shelves everywhere making it look deserted. And the pharmacy is always a show and a half. They never have the prescription filled, act like you’re an idiot asking if they called to let you know it was ready but more than half the time they don’t call. They literally pick up the phone then put you on hold. My wife and I tried to get ahold of them this morning and experienced the same thing for over 30 minutes. We ended up going in and they took 30 minutes to get an emergency 7 day supply of critical medicine before they ALL went on lunch break. I don’t know all the inner workings but seems like you could stagger out breaks like any retail business to keep it open. Ridiculous the pharmacy closes for lunch when that’s the only truly essential part of RiteAid. I’m done.

It's no secret that PDX is going through a transition period at the moment, with many other stores closing up for good. I've been a customer here for almost 15 years and always find the staff knowledgeable and kind. During my visit yesterday the manager took time to personally come assist me with finding a battery I had been to 3 other stores looking for! While waiting for my prescriptions to be filled, I also witnessed him: run cash registers, process empties, stock shelves, answer phone calls, take out trash and answer many questions from customers. (There was a line for walk-in vaccines, so I had a short wait.) I also want to make a special mention of the Security Officer that is employed to work at the front door during the day. Doing what must be an unbelievably difficult job, he has a seemingly permanent smile on his face and always says "Good Morning/Afternoon" and "Have a Great Day" in a genuine way. Thank you for serving our neighborhood during these challenging and transitional times.

This location happens to be one of the oldest Rite Aid stores in Portland after the Pioneer Square location, one would think that they would take more pride in being there for the community they serve. Unfortunately, this store has kooky hours that it doesn't necessarily adhere to. The pharmacy was closed this past Friday, Saturday, Sunday AND Monday; apparently the pharmacist didn't show up. I had to wait all that time to pick up my prescription because it was already submitted to this location. Grrr Then to top it all, the rest of the store is tiny. Not to mention it is also dirty and alot of the shelves are empty and need to be restocked. To be honest it looks like it is having a going out of business clearance, then you remember where you are when you are hit with the Pearl District prices. I recommend calling and making sure the pharmacy is open and that the prescription you need is in stock, if you absolutely must use this pharmacy.

I wonder how many medical emergencies have been caused by the incompetence and laziness by the pharmacy staff at this Rite Aid. I've had to get my meds here for two years now because of it's close proximity to my home. The staff make everything far more challenging than they need to be. They don't have any desire to help problem solve or help. Prescriptions are basically never done on time. They'll claim they don't have the right information, even after I've confirmed with the doctor that they do. Every time I think it can't get worse, it somehow does. The entire store smells like human feces. I'm shocked its allowed to carry food or considered clean enough to fill prescriptions. I will be switching my prescription to a mail service because it's honestly detrimental to my health at this point.

It's too bad my location at 6th and Alder closed. This pharmacy is now overburdened and the employee that happens to always be at the window when I show up doesn't seem to know how to do his job. No matter how early (days, a week, even when my Dr does it) I call in my Rx, it's never ready when I get there. The text system isn't being updated, causing more confusion. And the pharmacist from Alder is busy trying to do all the work herself while the other guy looks like he's about to have a breakdown. I'd switch if that weren't a hassle, too. As it is I have now gone two weeks without one of my diabetes meds because they can't get it in stock or even find another store that has it.

This used to be my regular pharmacy, but I will no longer be going here. They are unusably bad. The web app for renewing my prescription was broken, so I called on the phone. They left me on hold for 45 minutes (!), then hung up on me, seemingly intentionally. When I tried to walk in, there was a massive line. When I tried to get them to transfer my prescription to a different pharmacy, after waiting several days, they wouldn't respond to faxes, either. Eventually, after going without my medications for weeks (!), I had to get my doctor to sign new prescriptions and resend them to a different pharmacy. Absolutely do not use this pharmacy.

I’d advice you to PLEASE use the pharmacy at Safeway. I called this pharmacy 4 days ago to let them know I needed a refill in 3 of my medications. I had an appointment with my psychiatrist yesterday and she was surprised she hadn’t received a call or fax about the prescriptions needing a refill. She manually put in the prescriptions yesterday and I went there this morning and they still aren’t ready. This pharmacy is understaffed but it’s inexcusable to not notify the doctor when you are needing a refill. PLEASE, use Safeway’s pharmacy as I am moving all my prescriptions to them today.

This story is very bad! Customers get treated awfully, employees are overworked and the same ones are constantly there and they look very tired! And the managers are not good! I don’t recommend. The pig lady manager with green hair is always seen doing inappropriate acts with the other manager. Every day around 3 it is hectic in there and customers are stormed off, disturbed, and get disgusted by the behavior the managers put on for show. They don’t know how to manage their anger! I’ve going here for the past 3 years and I will not be planning on going back here ever again.

  • Brianna B

The worst actual location I have ever experienced. Not only are the shelves always empty, but prescriptions are never filled on time despite the app saying they’re ready for pick up. When you have sick individuals waiting for medication it is so hard to have them wait in line for their prescription that should’ve been filled by then. The bottle exchange calls for sketchy individuals to always be loitering around the building and their hours are always changing. Do not recommend. Only pro is the pharmacy cashier individuals are nice.

  • Kelsey L.

The pharmacy often follows different hours then listed online or physically at the store and they never answer their phone so its nearly impossible to get any prescription moved to another pharmacy. I have called every day for over a week with no answer. I understand everywhere is short staffed but the pharmacy should not continue to operate if they cannot keep it running and people are forced to be off their medications for days and days at a time. It’s insane. I would only use this pharmacy if you’re incredibly desperate.

  • Mailbox

This review is for their pharmacy. I have had NOTHING but good experiences with this pharmacy. I used to go to the rite aid on Cesar Chavez near division and it would take at least 2 days to get a prescription from there and you could never ever get through on the phones. This is not a knock on that pharmacy though because all these phaacies are super understaffed. But the pharmacists and staff at this location always try to help me, even if it means pulling some strings to get something done. They are just amazing, 10/10

  • Tim W.

Want to transfer your prescriptions? Beware! Even with clear instructions on what to fill, and what pharmacy they need to contact -- you're better off not even trying, and just contact your doctor, have him or her call rite aid directly. Crazy thing? Its all electronic! They only really get things right after hours of being on hold and weeks of back and forth with both the doctor and insurance. Notable, most rite aids don't have this problem. 10th and Hoyt brings establishes a new low when it comes to pharmacy

  • D P (Dee Pee)

Do not rely on a culture of service from this pharmacy staff. I'm a prescribing physician. I sat on hold for 20 minutes trying to get a prescription for a patient phoned in. Then they intentionally disconnected the call (probably because the hold time ran after-hours), but I was unable to speak with a pharmacist as I needed. This occurred on 11/18/21. This laziness is fairly commonplace in the big-box pharmacies. CVS plans on closing 900 stores in 2022 and I'm sure Rite-Aid will follow suit.

The pharmacist at this location is AMAZING! During the most difficult times when she was working the pharmacy alone when so many businesses were short-handed, she was administering vaccinations, filing prescriptions and checking customers out at the register, she always remained calm, professional and even pleasant. I am not so good at names but she was there today (03/27/23) around 2:00 p.m.. Thank you for putting your customers first and treating us with kindness and respect!

  • Buell

So I ignored the bad reviews and walked down here, braved the downtown Portland situation. Witnessed a fistfight on my way, and a line of can sellers outside the store. Ok, no problem for me... But, you can believe all the 1 star reviews. A higher price online than in store. Instead of just honoring the lower prices that I had on my store (like every other retailer in the United States) they shrug and say, "NOPE." They're making it too easy for Amazon to take over the world.

  • Serenity “SerenitySongWriter”

Absolutely worst place to get medication or even go into the store at all. They have a bottle drop and there are always people high on drugs trying to steal in there. When I went to get my medication this woman was clearly trying to steal my meds so I confronted her and then rite aid did nothing. Also they filled an old prescription instead of a new one which left me with less pills. Horrible horrendous place!

  • Attikai

There was a swarm of junkies standing around the entrance. While I was in the store I worried about the safety of my wife as she waited in the car. When I got back to her she said a man outside the car kept repeating "drugs, drugs, drug" as he paced next to the vehicle. My dog was growling and my wife was scared. I saved $100 on my prescription over my normal pharmacy. It wasn't worth it.

  • patrick weishampel

Friendly staff that are great. Unfortunately the company chose to close the pharmacy on weekends with no notice to customers, making it impossible to transfer prescriptions that need a pharmacist’s approval if needed over Saturday or Sunday. It also makes those that can be transferred an additional 20 min drive or 40 minute bus ride. After years of going here. Moving to a new pharmacy.

  • Donn Almeida

The worst pharmacy to get into contact with. I’ve been trying to call for a week to see if they have a certain medication in stock since there is a shortage. Been on the phone for 30 minutes waiting to speak to someone on numerous occasions and just gave up. The rate times I go to this pharmacy since my normal pharmacy is out of something, there is never a line. Terrible patient care.

  • Hannah

Was a good pharmacy until maybe 3-4 months ago. Now they close whenever they're short staffed without telling any patients, they often don't fill things even when I have automatic refills on , and they have overall made it a living nightmare to get my Rxs filled the past few months. Honestly you will have endless problems with this pharmacy, so my advice is really to go elsewhere.

  • Tundra Turbo

Pharmacist Ben looked for and found a difficult-to-find medication for my dog while I waited on the phone and filled it immediately for me with a professional and helpful attitude. Walgreens told me they were “too slammed” to even take the prescription over the phone and told me to leave it on their voicemail. Excellent customer service very much appreciated!! Laura

  • Noah

This is a review of Google. There should be a mechanism to add pharmacy hours, AT THE PHARMACY. If a store is a pharmacy it doesn’t need 10 “locations” for photo, pharmacy, when you can borrow the microwave. You need separate hours at the same location, whichever project manager handled this should be put in a dog kennel for the rest of their contract. USELESS.

  • Dallas Vercillo

Pharmacy closes at 6, I called at 5:53pm hey kept me on hold until 6 and then hung up.Thats pretty gangster not gonna lie but completely unprofessional from people who work in the pharma industry. Who knows what else they do because they want to? Also there is ALWAYS at least one schizophrenic transient being in the store who isnt actually shopping

  • DinoCookieCat

This use to be my regular rite aid, however due to the poor customer service as of late from the cashiers I'm unlikely to return. Unless you enjoy being harassed by an employee while you're trying to bag your things so you don't hold up the line, I would recommend going to the CVS near Powell's instead since they at least have self check out.

  • michael lee

was 'ordered' by (a lady) cashier to move and line up on one of two separate cashiers (despite no indication of where to line up anywhere). think she wanted me to be behind the longer line behind a customer.with dog..never experienced such arrogance in front of several other innocent customers in my 8+ years shopping at this store..

  • Amethyst Holden

Waited 6 hours for my scripts, then decided to call. Was told it'd be another hour. I'm sick, these were called in by my doctor before they even opened to combat the cough/fevers/etc symptoms I'm having. It's unfair to make sick patients wait 7 freaking hours! The safeway a few blocks away is faster and I recommend them instead.

  • Kelsie Winters

They take bottle returns now. Ruining the higher end neighborhood in downtown Portland. Used to be a cute corner store to grab things for us local business owners and now smells like a homeless camp and constant police presence. Sad what they have done to this block especially for us local business owners.

  • Ciarra

The pharmacy is great!! But Ashley & Curt (loss prevention)followed me around the store then threatened me. It was uncomfortable. After that i sat outside and watched them follow my neighbor.. prepare to be followed especially if your black. Ive gone in that store 100 times with no problems until them.

  • Chris O

It’s not a beautiful location, but I came in for vaccines and bought a couple of items and everyone working there was incredibly friendly and welcoming. I work in a challenging retail environment and I know it’s not easy to keep the friendliness going, so I was impressed and thankful.

  • Christopher “Chris” Davis

If you enjoy seeing the house less come in and run out with things while the staff curse at them this is your place. There is no restroom for you while you wait for your prescription and if you think you can just shop while you wait think again there is almost nothing on the shelves.

  • Emery Black

This Rite Aid ROCKS! I’ve never had nicer pharmacist/pharmacy techs. They are kind and diligent. Highly recommend this location. I switched over from CVS and it was the best thing I did for my time and efforts in trying to get prescriptions filled.

  • Galen Pack

Told to come back the next day by a staff member because I had to reschedule my vaccine appointment. Came back and was denied and told she scheduled it for Monday- not the next day. Had to drive an hour to get here and I will never ever come back.

  • Brandy Williams (Brandy Williams Author)

Pearl District issues - security lets you in the locked door, and once in the shelves are almost empty. I asked the clerk if they were closing and she said they were having vendor issues. If you have another option it's bound to be better.

  • L.T.V

The pharmacy is pleasant enough and they are pretty nice and generally helpful however the phone will often go unanswered or will be put on hold forever at times making me go down there to speak to them in person and making multiple trips

  • Lindsay Seher

So sad to see what happened to this location. It's not safe to go in anymore because of all the drug use out front. I feel so bad for the staff. Hoping things can turn around, this is destroying a beautiful neighborhood.

  • Nicholas Halsey

Consistently impressed by their selection. I've asked for the most random things (Draino, thumbtacks, headphones, Nerd Ropes) and they inevitably have at least one option. Saved me a real headache on numerous occasions!

  • Ben Lomme

Rite-Aid website still lets you schedule vaccine appointments even though the pharmacy was closed on weekends. No one took responsibility and was told "if I wanted someone there I should come in myself". Will not return

  • Alejandro Beiderman

Absolute lack of common courtesy. Had an appointment at this location, when I get there they had put up a sign they were closed for the day. They didn't bother to let me know or cancel the appointment. Unbelievable.

  • Brooke Peppers

Dangerous place. And my prescriptions are never ready when they’re supposed to be so I end up having to sit around and wait in a place where I don’t feel safe. I’ll be transferring my prescriptions elsewhere.

  • Alice Shiffman

Excellent service from the pharmacy....they are the best I have ever had in all my years of getting my drugs! Also very well stocked in many unexpected areas...and close to our home. No complaints

  • David Waingrow

Good pharmacy and a good selection of drug store & convenience store items. I've been using this store for almost a decade and the associates have always been friendly and helpful.

  • Heather Dunken

Loved these guys came here today 8/17/21 for an annual flu shot and just loved the friendliness and service these guys had..even the cashiers were phenomenal!!! …

  • Julie Ogden

Shelves were practically empty. Lots of people loitering trying to do bottle return. Didn’t feel like a real store, not sure what Rite Aid is thinking here.

  • Tony Mullinax

Rude to me. Rude to the nurse who called them. Rude to the doctor who called them. Then hung up on my pulmonary doctor. Literally. Just a horrible place.

  • Izzy Eliasen

I'm looking for a local pharmacy and somehow their ad got google to only show me this location. We're not living in a corporate tech dystopia …

  • Lorraine Lesher-Boulton

2nd time that the website has allowed booking a Covid booster and yet the booster is not available. It’s inconsiderate of people’s time.

  • Rebecca C

Friendly, courteous and knowledgeable staff. One associate even did a price adjustment for me when they were out of the rite aid brand

  • timothy lanzo

The downtown store closed. This will be my new location for all my purchases such as medications or using the pharmacy

  • Jeremy Curtis

Very nice laidy I talked with. They are extremely rude and do not care about there image at downtown alder store.

  • Jason Weeks

Less then helpful.. No restroom for customers while waiting for prescriptions. I'll never come here again

  • Suzanne Smallwood

Way more pleasant than the newer employees and pharmcists at the S.W. 6th & S.W. Alder Rite Aid Pharmacy.

  • Robyn Owen

Tried to get a hold of the pharmacy for 4 days now, on hold for 10-15 minutes! Nothing! Won't go back!

  • jay

Good store feel bad for people working there having to be good with costumes while fighting homeless

  • B Ramsay

Ever wondered where the people who graduated last in their pharmacy class go to work? Found it!

  • Stephen

It's a rite aid, nothing overly good or bad. Lots of homeless around this one.

  • levi barrett

Next to nothing on the shelves. Looks like it hasn't been stocked in months

  • Kaurine Bassett

Website says that pharmacy is open till 6. Went in at 5 and it was closed.

  • dae lee

Pharmacy doesn't know how to transfer prescriptions. Living in stone age.

  • Olive Briskey

Very rude employee. Do not recommend! They were yelling a lot.

  • Christina Stanley Blair

I like the shopping experience with rite aid store#06467.

  • Anonymous Anonymous

Cashier was nice and they have an ATM in this location.
