Sad situation. This space has abundant wildlife, trees and open spaces, and connects the White River to the Marian University Ecolab. A wonderful opportunity for an Urban Ecosystem. Instead, the City of Indianapolis is paving a 500-car parking lot, cutting down trees, and installing the OPPOSITE of what people asked for. In their own survey, the city learned people wanted two things: to preserve this natural area, and to give us bathrooms. Instead, they’re spending millions to create an “Adventure Park” that is nothing more than a bunch of gimmicks. People who tried to give input to the “process” were shut out by a deaf project manager. So sad to know this space will no longer be inhabited by the foxes, coyotes, deer, hawks, and eagles that have called this home since the Riverside Golf Course closed down.
My favorite park in Indianapolis. It has this wonderful mix of wild, unkept nature and organized design. Overall I found the park to be extremely relaxing, as It felt far away from the city. There were nice paths that use to connect the golf greens. However, now they lead through dense meadows, filled with plants and wildlife. On top of that, they have this race track thing that is really fun to ride a bike down.
Feels like it is presently in a state of decay. A lot of the benches are broken around the trails around the north east part. I like the little signs giving historical information
