Salamanca Market is main jewel in the crown of Tasmania's tourist attractions. Salamanca Market earns some $400,000 per annum for the HCC and gets precious little in return. It's time the State and Local governments restored the shine in that jewel and restored the 200 or so parking spots the wharf redevelopment took away. It's time the Hobart City Council took notice of Stallholder's whose income has dropped over the last few years. It's time the HCC took notice of stallholder objections to the proliferation of insane Red Tape emenating from the bowels of its bureaucracy, including inter alia, the stupidity of requiring stallholders to give 11 days notice of impending illness, attempts to contract out of negligence of it's, and it's officer's negligence, attempts to unilaterally change the occupational licence, introduced despite overwhelming stallholder opposition, and the imposition of unqualified bureaucrats as arbiters of products to be sold at the market. The popularity of Salamanca Market is indisputable, and if you as a Tasmanian and or any other supporter of Salamanca Market care for the continuing viability of the same, please, please, please urge the Tasmanian State Government and the HCC to restore the 200 or so car spaces taken away from Salamanca market and remove the above mentioned absurdities.
I went in to buy a few things, including some fresh produce. As we were purchasing, we noted that some of the fresh produce that we were after had gone mouldy, and I asked a shop attendant about more. She said they did not have any more that she was aware of. We then went to the cashier to see if she was able to tell us if there was any more in stores. The answer was no, and when prompted for a potential discount on the item she checked with the manager who fervently said no. This has really put me off shopping there, and makes me appreciate the fresh guarantee is that the bigger chains offer. We tried to purchase local, however if businesses such as this I'm not willing to stand by their produce, I don't see the point.
Hi, I have shopped at your store for many years and have always been satisfied with the service and quality of goods. There is one thing though which concerns me though. I frequently go past the rear entrance of the shop on Montpelier Retreat and almost every time there are staff smoking at the doorway. This is of course up to them but what I object to is the mess left with cigarette butts on the pavement, often there are a great many left on the street which not only look unsightly but may go into the water drainage system. Could you please provide your staff with a proper cigarette disposal unit. Thankyou again for such a great store offering an alternative to the big two! kind regards Ian Broinowski
Terry, the manager, was extremely rude and racist. I asked to buy two boxes of apples, he answered in a single-word, no smile, not even to turn his back to look at me, the customer that was talking to him. I asked if I can borrow a trolley to push the two boxes of apples (12kg each) to my car and promised to push it back. when I had not even finished my question, he answered with his back against me (still): "No" - (me) I will bring it back - (him) "trolley is not going to go back, I know". I already paid for them and I need it as going to the airport soon, so I had to carry each of the 12 kg of apple to Kelly street where I park my car. Just shocking customer service from the racist manager!
Tried to take back Greek pita bread the day after we purchased it. Manager asked for a receipt, which we were never given. He was shown the online transaction through my wife's banking app, but apparently that is insufficient. The bread was out of date. The manager said that it is from Greece and is frozen before being thawed upon arrival in Australia. Except the product is called Greek pita bread, but is made in Australia. The manager was extremely rude and condescending and made my wife feel as though she was lying. We will never shop at Salamanca Fresh again because of this one incident. Extremely disappointing from a locally owned store.
I have had the worst shopping experience a few days ago at Salamanca store. Someone from the deli was so rude, told me that I was a liar, she became mad at me after she realized that she has made a mistake using the scale.. It was humiliating and in front of other customers. I have been shopping there for 3 years, I live close by and love the place, I know and like most of the employees but I won't go there anymore. Since then I have been in contact with the customer service team, the problem have been fixed (this is why I changed this review & rating), hopefully no one will ever experience that again.
Buyer beware. During our week long stay in Hobart, Salamanca Fresh was our go-to for food needs. Whilst most product was fine, one of our purchases that tasted a little past its best (Lavash crackers) turned out to be 5 months past the Use By date. Our fault for not checking, but a high turnover outfit in a tourist precinct with a solid local base has to do better than this.
We thought we would be safe buying from a trendy and expensive boutique grocer. We bought the pre cooked tuna patties at $4 each, we got home and cooked them up to find out that they were almost 100% potato patties. Absolutely disgraceful, not sure how they are still in business. Classic example of the customers being scammed for more profit. Shame on Salamanca fresh.
This was my first visit here this January. During our trip in Tasmania , We needed a quick dinner at hotel and bought one lasagna and 1/4 roast chicken, some fresh vegetables and fruits. Lasagna and chicken were almost perfect and they were what we wanted. Lasagna,Meaty with red wine flavored tomato source. Chicken, crispy and juicy. We used Microwave oven, still good.
I bought one pack of tomato yesterday, and on my way home I found that it said 2 on the receipt. It was ridiculous because a pack of tomato was suddenly added at the very last, which I didn't assume it was just a mistake. So everyone, you'd better check your receipt right away when you make a payment with young saleswoman in front of you.
Good selection of fresh fruit, veg and a diverse range of grocery items not available elsewhere. Great salad bar for a healthy snack, wide range of drinks and good butchers/deli section. Service is usually pretty good and their prices are competitive.
Salamanca Fresh is a culinary haven not just for the finest Tasmanian produce and wines but also for its extensive selection of local and international cheeses. The cheese section is a delightful symphony of flavours featuring an impressive
Delicious fresh food and produce. Not cheap by any stretch of the imagination, but good quality and fresh. Lots of local produce and a bit of forign stuff too. Handy location to a lot of hotels for a nip out for some good dips and antipasto.
Very convenient. But you do pay for it, some prices are just ridiculous. Also just check use by dates. We've had a couple of things past use by Robert close, including milk with 1 day left on it. Great staff and mostly good fresh produce.
Fruit n vege disappointing. All the same items at all the same price. Also sent message on messenger asking if fresh seafood was available and got no response. No seafood available. What was there was interesting but expensive.
All your food needs if you are on holiday and only need to buy a few items to eat. Fresh fruits and vegetables or meats and seafood, all are there. Plus Tasmanian specialty items. Helpful staff and friendly service are a bonus.
Very good fruit and vegetables, meat is also excellent here. The big issue is the crowding around the checkouts combined with the poor store layout. You constantly feel like you're about to knock something or someone over.
Staying at a hotel close by, it was great to be able to get a good range of fresh produce to prepare at hotel. Prices were ok as there were no other options close by. A good central location especially for tourists.
Best bet is to buy fruit or vegetables that you can see. A lot of product in the deli is not what it seems, if it is pre-cooked or is crumbed, there will be a good chance it will lack the main ingredient.
One of the best markets in Australia. An absolute must for anyone having a stay in Hobart. Busy and you name it - it's being sold there. Quirky and a good way to spend a few bob and a few hours too.
You will always find a solution to what to eat tonight here. The choices are always interesting, varied and of high quality. It's a great place to pick up something for a picnic or a party as well.
Great stock, but won't do cash out or EFTPOS under $10. Also, it's hilarious how many reviewers are confusing this gourmet supermarket for the Salamanca Markets that happen outside on Saturdays.
Rude. I asked something and no reply with Straight face. And expensive price compare with Woolworths(exactly same product). This is just all my personal opinion but the quality also just soso..
In Salamanca Place full of Colonial history. Pretty nice fresh/general food store. Pics show Kelly's Steps which takes you down to Salamanca Pl from Battery Point and to Salamanca Fresh.
Grocery store that offers a wide range. Excellent fresh local produce at a reasonable price, though a touch expensive dry goods. Deli and butcher has lots of prepared meals and salads.
First Class Quality produce all the way..!!! Spectacular deli produce, fresh seafood and meats, outstanding fruit and vegies and so much more...!!! Salamanca Fresh is amazing..!!! ❤
great supermarket with lots of top notch produce and groceries with prices to match bought some ready made meals here to cook back at the airbnb and was not disappointed… …
I usually buy veggies here for the business, compare Wws and Coles, some products quality are better, fresher, but some items are pricey than those two stores, overall, 4 stars!
Nice little local supermarket. Wide variety, great deli. Can be somewhat pricey however. Stocks everything from wine to coffee to fruit and veg to meat to tasmanian chocolate.
Good place to get fresh vegetables, fruits and meats. The vegetables are fresh to my opinion. They have some items you may not be able to find it in other chain supermarkets.
Great selection of food supplies - well priced considering location - bought some wine fruit and breakfast supplies - a dozen cloudy bay oysters $17 which were delicious
Kingston Fresh has the fresh food in Greater Hobart. The Summer Kitchen bread is the best I’ve ever had. The staff are friendly, very hard working and always obliging.
A small grocery store with a selection of produce, cheeses, and limited number of grocery lines. If you need to pick up a few items on the go, this will suffice.
Decent variety of produce and goods. Some of the quality is excellent and some just above average. Good little store to be able to pick up a few things
We always bought our steak meat and sides (lettuce, tomatoes, green beans) here during our half-year stay in Hobart. Good price for great quality.
If you are staying in the area, it’s convenient and easy to get to. Great variety of products. I found it a lot dearer than Coles & Woolies.
The store is very impressive. There's a good range of products and the shop is very spacious. Definitely the best supermarket in Salamanca.
Nice place.. had fresh veggies.. had a few vegan biscuits and vegan sausages as well.. good for a quick stop for supplies and groceries.
Great selection of fresh produce, cheeses, deli items and healthy pantry basics. Good if you just need to run in and grab groceries.
Watermelon and ground melon are Best all the time. Highly recommend for these two things are best in Australia …
Lots of good produce. We got some really yummy salami. I really like the local produce market atmosphere. Lots of local products.
Super fresh produce with reasonable prices. Overall was great to stop by for first day essentials- I would absolutely recommend.
God I wish I had a Salamanca fresh near me at home! (My equivalent is 45 minutes away but 10x the price) staff were great also!
Awesome little grocer! They stock lots of great local tassie produce and a lot of German products which my German friend loved
What a fabulous building. The tour was well worth the price. The background story is just as beautiful as the building.
Great deli section with some delicious pay-by-weight salads. Excellent selection of high quality and local products.
I knocked a shelf of chips over when I dabbed but the cashier didn’t help me she just laughed at me. …
Great selection of wine and cheese at reasonable prices. Lots of other good fruits and foodstuffs also ✅
Easy parking, convenient location and great produce - especially artisan stuff like cheese and dips etc.
Sort of a mini Whole Foods. Good deli and fresh produce. Walking distance from the hostel I stayed in.
Excellent, handy location. A little overpriced and not a huge selection, but good for a quick shop.
Nice little upscale market and deli with some things you won't find in the bigger supermarkets.
Best dips. I have tried others but here is the best....especially basil pesto and spring onion
Hands down best supermarket in Hobart. Puts the big outfits to shame on quality and price.
Wow what a fantastic market. Get there early! All the freshest food for an awesome picnic.
Well stocked with fresh meat, fish and vegetables. Also has most basic supplies and wine.
Wonderful vibrant Saturday markets. One of the best parts of our visit to Tasmania.
Convenient located store catering for all tastes. Busy place with helpful staff.
Great convenience store, has everything you need whilst on holiday nearby
Handy Market. Everything looks fresh. Chicken and Leak pie was delicious.
