This Park looks safe and clean but based on what happened in front of me today 9 April 2022, it’s not too safe. I went there today and parked next to the river on the left side when you coming down from the uneven hilltop road. In fact, there was a car parked one car after me on my left side and I was sitting in my car relaxing, suddenly there is this red SUV that came from the right side of the parking lot and blocked the car parked next to me so the driver can’t back up and get away, after that, someone get out the red SUV and start chasing and banging on the back of the car that was parked next to me with the driver trying to take off and get away because of the red SUV blocked him or her to leave. Both Red SUV and the individual chasing the car that was parked next to me and couldn’t get the driver because he barely and luckily got away from the danger that was about to happened because the individual chasing the driver came back to pick up something that he dropped while chasing that driver which for me looks like a gun. So be careful out there.

They have pickleball on Monday and Wednesday but I don't recommend it. It is kind of drop in play but not really. You will be there for 2 hours and play one or two games.. while other people play six or seven games and don't get off the court. They need to organize it by turn because people there are just too rude and selfish. Including Robert who runs the place. I have a wife and kids so it is rare I get to go out to play. 1 hour of driving to an hour and a half of sitting to play one game is just bull. The worst part is robert who actually runs the place literally stays on the court the entire time. Yeah he's a good pickleball player, but not really a good example for the park. A shame it's one of the few places with a lot of pickleball courts. Hopefully some more places pop up and either more polite people come or they enforce some rules for drop in play so everyone can play (fyi I am about ~3.5)

Great family area they have a playground, tennis courts, baseball fields, a lake for fishing, and walking trails
Playground
Decent size play area and the ground is padded with a material that isn't so hard Incase of a fall
Restrooms
From what I noticed the restrooms were not that great they were portable toilets, unless I missed a building with restrooms which I did not see. I would have to say this is the worst thing of the park
Dog-friendliness
Seen many of families with their fur babies plenty of grass and play area for pets as well
Picnic area
Seen a few picnic areas, at the bottom of the hill there was a big gazebo with grills and at the top of the hill by the playground and tennis courts there were 3 tables, but no grill so we bring our own

Go at your own risk! Our car window got smashed to pieces in the parking lot next to the nature center in broad daylight. The car next to us got broken into too. We had only walked for less than an hour on the greenway & returned to glass everywhere. We did not have anything sitting out in our car, no bags, no valuables, or anything enticing at all - and yet we still got broken into. There were MANY people on the trails, runners, people with dogs, walkers with kids, bikers etc on a beautiful day.. and yet this still happened. Police were called but none nearby to dispatch. There are no cameras here, and another review stated they get an average of 4 break ins a week here. Take that as you will & be safe!

People are out here burning a fire at one of the rented areas, which they have not even rented out. They are drinking and blaring their music and the fire is getting bigger. It been several hours. It sounds like a convert out here. This will start a WILDLIFE FIRE!!!!! There is never a park ranger out here, when there should be. Where is the new duck guy at? No one watches this park. The wildlife are being hurt and beaten, people come here and steal jugs of tadpoles!!! 2 days in a row. I have the videos of them doing this. DO SOMETHING!! I'm calling the NWO. I've had enough!

Been coming to the park since I was a little kid. It really is a great urban park, kind of Nashville's version of Central Park in New York City. It has everything to offer...tennis, basketball, baseball fields, walking trails, fishing (really nice in the winter months when the lake is stocked with trout), multiple playgrounds, picnic areas, golf, and large open spaces for frisbee, soccer, or football. I wouldn't advise walking around by yourself at night, but in general it is pretty safe. Great park in the heart of the city.

  • Aaron Nelson

Overall the park is reasonably nice. It's probably not the nicest park you've ever been to but it also doesn't have much in the way of negative qualities. I would say the biggest problem with the park are the pedestrian walkways. There are lots of walking paths in the park, especially as you get near the river. However, not all the walking paths are well connected to each other. You frequently have to zigzag or cut across roads to get to the next walking path which is not ideal.

  • Ally Thomas

this park is the love of my life. Beautiful green space, dog park, baseball fields, bike paths and ponds. There’s a lot of terrain but if you want a flat, easy bike ride take the music city bike trail. Park seems to be clean, safe etc I have never had any problems. There is a beginners running group in the summer that meets on Mondays and Wednesdays and Saturdays- East Nasty Running Club. Maybe my favorite part is the Lawrence Argent melty, chromey birdie-what a delight.

Dog park is located behind the community center with the closest intersection being Lillian St and 20th Street. Nice big area for the dogs to run in and everyone seems very friendly. There is a covered area with a couple of benches to escape the sun, but most are in the open. Very few trees to escape the summer heat. The dog drinking fountain is push activated and drains immediately, so you need someone standing nearby to activate it if your dog gets thirsty!

  • Lisa Olszewski

I was visiting Nashville from out of town and I brought my dog to Shelby park to get some exercise. We both loved this dog park so much!! It is a really large, fenced in area with lots of trees and grass for dogs and benches for people to sit. All the people and dogs were so friendly! There were a good amount of dogs there each time I went.
Playground
The dog park is located right next to a playground near the local elementary school.

  • MJ Darst

I'm giving this park 1 star because while attending at baseball tournament my car was broken into on broad daylight witha smash a grab technique. Multiple cars were hit in one weekend. 8 the day that I was hit. Multiple gun shots were heard both days of the tournament. The walking trails are beautiful but if choose to brave this park, BRING NOTHING OF VALUE! Chances are seone is stalking your car.

  • Linda Seeley

This is a beautiful park!! I was here in the fall with the leaves changing and it was soooo pretty. There are many walking trails and there was a small lake with people fishing but I don't know if they were catching anything. It has a nice nature center that does classes for kids and adults. The staff are super friendly too!! This is a great family friendly place to spend an afternoon.

  • TJ

The park was awesome. It had nature trails, a track, and a nature center. It's great for adults or children. I highly suggest Shelby Park for a getaway. It's absolutely beautiful. They have done a lot of work and remodeling to the park and it has attracted a whole new crowd. There is plenty to do here. A walk along the river is beautiful. Don't miss out on the new Shelby Park

  • Ernesto Ramos

Shelby Park was amazing me and my wife walked for one hour and a half and then we went to tennis to play there had music the tennis courts wasn't crowded it was a beautiful Saturday afternoon of Tranquility people are out with very friendly they got a nice dog park and it wasn't so windy or human a beautiful place for the family to grill out to have fun for exercise etcetera

  • Kitty

This is a very unique park, it goes around a small lake and stream and contains a couple interesting sculptures. There are also little duck houses fenced-in for the ducks to hide away in which I thought was adorable! Besides the main path around the lake there are also little mini trails in the woods, they aren't too long but provide a nice walk.

  • Public Nuisance

Very pretty big and spacious Park. Well kept and managed one thing I can say though is my family rented out a spot to host a birthday party till 11 p.m. and the lights did not come on the whole time we were there had to cut the party short due to not being well lit it was pitch-black. And they have the nerve to charge you $30 for a seating area

  • Mike Caruthers

After living in East Nashville for all my life I can say I'm so happy what's been done with the park. I have been wildly happy with all the changes in East Nashville but this is one I'm proud of. People who don't know should look up the history about the park. It was owned by the Shelby family and some of the structures still stand today.

  • Rhonda Koppenhaver

Nice park with hard surface trail next to it that you can walk your dog on also (leashed). The only sad part was there were all large dogs there today of which two bad mannered ones were either biting or humping the other dogs while their ill mannered humans watched them do it. Our dog weighs 9lbs compared to their 45 & 90 lbs. :/

  • Ashley Papa

Absolutely loved this park. The dog park area is huge and actually has seating. Lots of paved pathways so very family friendly. Large pond was nice to walk around. Bathrooms available throughout and lots of parking options. Nature center was cute for our little and was super impressed to see a little nature play area for kids!

  • Ryan Linkous

An excellent place to go on a walk and to see the community. The pond in Shelby Park is a place people congregate to fish and chat. There are great walking paths although some turn into roads that are shared by cars. Beautiful wildlife including herons, ducks, fish, and of course everyone’s dogs.

  • Andy Perry

Probably the closest park to Downtown Nashville if you want to get away and have a beautiful area with rolling lawns, shaded trees, and a pond in the center. It's circular, so it attracts many people who like to walk, bicycle, or jog. A nice little Oasis practically right in the city

  • Ian Borden

One of the few last gems of Nashville. Beautifully taken care of natural space. Lovely families and people come from all over to be healthy and active. Cute spot. We bring the dogs here all the time and my girlfriend has been coming here since highschool, she absolutely loves it.

  • Highly Favored True

Lots of people fishing in the pond where the ducks are harms the ducks and babies alot because people are leaving fishing hooks and fishing lines. Let's remember that bread is NOT healthy for ducks either. …

  • Corina Fletcher

Kind of a scary once it starts getting dark... Watch about three drug deals go down by the railroad tracks and had two guys on bikes kept circle my husband and I.. will not go back to this park... Bonus it was very beautiful maybe just got there at the wrong time...

  • Dan Bernstein

Shelby park is great for its versatility. There are nice baseball fields, a boat ramp, nearby golf and disc golf courses, and access to miles of greenway through the Shelby Bottoms greenway. Regardless of what you want to do outside, this is a good place to start.

  • Debora Cahoon

This was probably my fiancé’s and my worst experience. It’s not relaxing, it’s in a ghetto area, no bathrooms, and parking was not close to trails. We will definitely not go back. If you’re looking for a good park experience, try out Radnor Lake or Percy Warner.

  • Daniel Babin

I love Shelby park! It has a lot of community activities and walking/riding/running trails. They also have a dog park a that is a pretty good size. Also, you can rent a bike and ride over to Two Rivers Park for the day. Perfect place to have fun and relax!

  • Living Gluten Free

Beautiful park Only issue....no restrooms.the trails are so beautiful but for a park that large we need restrooms and water sources I literally had to walk back to use a porter potty which I hate definitely need more restrooms but the park is lovely

  • Side Hustle Vikki

I absolutely love walking here! The trails are really long and you get lots of different scenery along the way. Always very clean and tons of other people on the paths so even if your a solo walker you’ll still feel safe unlike some other parks.

  • gary Rich

A wonderful park nested in East Nashville. I am currently training for a race. This is a great place to go for long runs if you are training. The park is safe, clean, and mostly quiet. There is plenty of things to do at the park.

  • Jessica Hale

The bottoms are great for exercising in nature. The nature center is a particular shining star if you have kids. The whole park is big and has many areas of use.

5 Star Park Alert!! Shelby Park hosts wide open spaces, beautiful nature trails, recreational bird watching, golf course, boat launch, baseball fields, epic dog park, and vibes matching its historic hometown Nashville.

  • Dane Hendren

Occasionally has a scuffle but just a scuffle. I've never feared for my 23 pound Puggle. She loves it here and only improvement would be a second water fountain or a splash pad?! Haha sincerely a lovely park for pups.

  • David Roland

Great park for picnic and dog walking. Unfortunately one of the gazebos was damaged and blocked of. But there was still a picnic table near it under the trees. Nashville strong still recovering from the tornados.

  • Josh Forsythe

Pretty nice park with a nice big pond and beautiful nature, and the park itself is much bigger than I thought it was. Plenty of walking trails both paved and not. Some good picnic areas too, some with tables

  • Darius Petty

I love golf and even though I'm a beginner I wouldn't recommend this course. It's literally all over the place and it's a maze. It's too much confusion. But you don't have to take my word for it. Good luck!

  • Debbie Moe

Loved this park! Great for long or short walks. Nice black topped trails, with grass side trails. It was too muddy to try the side trails on our walk, after much rain. Easy to find and close to downtown.

  • Di P

Shelby park is a cool place to take your kids and have a little fun. Although the big park is still closed, they have just as much fun in the little park next to the center or shall I say tennis court.

Big and beautiful park. Parking was easy. Everything is green. People from our group could play various active games at same time just by splitting and waking to near locations.

It's spacious and generally well-kept. My boys and I have never been the only dogs at the park, so there's always company to play with!

I golf course is challenging and the greens were firm. Metro should invest more capital in this course. It could be a premium course.
